Re: windows 8 version of open office

2017-02-26 Thread nasrin khaksar
hi.
there is only one version for openoffice.
this version supports both 32 and 64bits of different versions of
windows and you dont need to search for openoffice for specific
version of windows!
hope that help and God bless you all.

Perhaps you can tether your computer to your phone for Internet access.
Regardless, the Windows version should work. I have used it on both

Hello George,

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.2 runs on all Windows versions of Windows since
Windows XP.

When you go to http://www.openoffice.org/download you should see Windows
(EXE) already seleted, along with your language and 4.1.2.

Click "Download full installation" only. When the next page opens, just
wait. There is nothing more to click. Ignore any ads that say Download
or "Download Now."

You should eventually see a message asking you what you want to do with
"Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.2_Win_x86_install ... ."
Respond to that.

Apache OpenOffice does *not* run on Windows RT, the version of Windows
that is used on some Microsoft Surface tablets. It also does not run on
Windows Phone.

You can find out what version of Windows you are running by running
Control Panel.

You can also tell by looking at the "Start" button in the lower left
corner of your screen. If it is green and says "Start" it is Windows XP.
If it is round and shows the 4-color Windows symbol, it is Windows Vista
or Windows 7 (smaller on Windows 7). Windows 8 and 8.1 normally open with
a "Start" page and you can go to the desktop from there. The desktops on
Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 are similar.

Your keyboard should also have a "Windows" key, usually between the left
"Ctrl" and "Alt" keys. If you press the Windows key, the display on
Windows 8 - 10 will toggle between the start (page) menu and the desktop
(or a running application and the start page).

If none of this is familiar, you might not have a Windows PC (or it is
older than Windows XP).

You may have downloaded a 64 bit for a 32 bit machine.

Surely there is no 64-bit version for Windows?

Where are you trying to download from? You should be getting it from
www.openoffice.org and nowhere else.

BTW, you may want to check your computer clock. It appears you sent
this message last month. You can configure your computer to use a NTP
(Internet Time) server, which will ensure your time date are always
correct. I'm not familiar with Windows 8, but in Windows 7 you right
click on the clock and select Adjust date/time to get to Internet Time

RE: Windows 8, Open Office Install Failed

2015-01-28 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
Hi John,

Sometimes there are failures because of incompatibilities in protocols. And
sometimes there is a failure somewhere in the path between the download and you.

The next time you try, please make note of the following things:

 1. The name and version of the browser you are using.
 2. Are you using Windows 8 or 8.1 and on what computer?
 3. When you go to http://openoffice.org/download and select download for
Windows, and are patiently waiting for the download to start (don't click
anything), note what it says about Mirror provided by: in the bar that
mentions Apache OpenOffice and what to do if the download doesn't start or
doesn't work.
 4. When the download starts and you are asked to run or save the file, note
the from there too. Save the file of course.
 5. Where are you saving the file? If you have tried more than once, it helps
to give the files different names so you can compare what ends up being there.

If the problem persists, please provide that information with your report back
to this list.

Here is further investigation that you can conduct.

 6. Does the file that is stored resemble the name of the file, but it may say
something like -partial on the end?
 7. If the file seems to be there (it will be about 134 MB), there is more you
can do. (The file properties, if you check them by right-clicking on the file
name in the Windows File Explorer, should provide a size of 140,910,890 bytes.)
 8. If it doesn't seem to be there it means there was some sort of interruption
and it is then necessary to look for other causes. Let us know and we can look
at how to trouble-shoot that.
 9. If the file repeatedly seems to be complete, but failure is stated every
time, rename the file so everything *after* .exe in the name that was used is
stripped off.
 10. If you know how to do this, you can download a digital hash value for the
download you have and check the hash to confirm that the file is actually
complete and downloaded accurately.
 11. If (10) indicates the file was corrupted then treat the same as (8, above)
and include these further details in your report.
 12. If you don't do (10) or the digital hash checks, you can attempt executing
the installer. Save all open work first.
 13. When you attempt execution, it may fail immediately. If the installer
starts up, it will check the file itself. If that checks out, the installation
will probably proceed correctly.

From you E mail address I intuit thatht your primary ISP is in Canada. I do
not know if you are an Anglophone r Francophone, but from your comments I
must presume you are an Anglophone.

I hope that you have downloaded the German language version of Open Office
through the official open office site at www.openoffice.org. That sdite
provides you many language options for the Open Office suite, and many
options for the operating system under which you will run Open Office.

I suggest that you uninstall the German language version of Open Office
which you have downloaded. There really is no way to switch it to
English, whether US English, British English, or Canadian English.

After uninstalling the German language version, go to www.openoffice.org
and select the flavor of English version which you want to use, as well
as the Operating System you are using, and download ONLY from www.open
office.org.

The Open Office website will take you to Source Forge, from which your
download will be obtained.

Downloading any language version of Open Office from any source other than
Open Office.org is risky and may result in installation of various forms of
undesirable programs being installed on your system.

Works fine on my 8.1 machine. Download, but ONLY from the official
openoffice.org web site, and enjoy!

It does. Please tell us if there is a webpage with incomplete
information (give us the exact link) and we will fix it.

Hi, I am having an issue with the OpenOffice Writer. Every time I try to
use Web View, it ends up slowing the program to un-usability. I've tried to
compatibility troubleshooter, Hi PDI scaling, disable Hi DPI scaling,
compatibility mode, no compatibility mode, etc. Can't seem to get it to
 work in Web View seamlessly.

 I'm running Windows 8.1, on a 2014 Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro (with 3200x1800
 display).

 Thank you for your time.

There was an earlier problem (fixed in 8.x? - I'm not sure) with OpenOffice
running on displays wider than 2560 pixels. Try reducing your display width, as
a short term expedient, to see if this improves response.

We haven't tested all versions of OpenOffice on Windows 8, but
versions 3.4.1 and 4.0 appear to run fine on Windows 8.

Hallo Ludwig,
