As your email indicates you are using Windows, you need to install the fonts to
Windows, using Control Panel /Fonts.

Import those fonts into your operating system. Then they will be available to
OpenOffice.

Re: importing

2018-12-09 Thread Drew Jensen
The only way that I know of is to open the Access Query for editing and
switch to the SQL view. Then copy the text of the SQL statement and paste
into a new Query created in Base also open in SQL view mode. Rinse and
repeat for each of the queries in the Access file.

The help system in Access covers how to switch into SQL view there.

Same holds for the Base application, the help shows you how to switch the
Query designer into SQL view.

The actual select statement may need some translation from the dialect used
in Access and the dialect used by whichever of the database engines Base is
working with at the moment.

Best wishes,

First of all, you should be aware that the build in database is good for test
purpose only.
If forever your system crash it is not always easy to recovery the file.

2018-12-08 Thread clrockwell15
To whom it may concern;

Presently, I am using Microsoft Access as my database for my men's club
roster. I have approximately 300 records. I would like to use Apple Open
Office Base in lieu of Access. I have two tables (one for active members
and one for dropped members). I have several (at least twenty-five) queries
in that Access database.

I tried the online suggestion to bring over to Open Office all my tables and
queries. However, every one of the queries came over as a table. Not one
query. All tables.

My basic question is: Is there a way to import an Access query into Apple
Open Office?

It's particularly unhelpful that you provide only pictures of the CSV
files, which makes experimentation and confirmation tedious for
anyone helping you.

I want to import this CSV file. And when I import it using those
settings. I tried to change the import columns to Number but I could not.

You shouldn't need to: Standard should do all you need.

Than every number has that single mark there with three spaces and
the only way to get rid of it is manually delete it!

It's best not to imagine that the leading apostrophe is actually in
the cell but rather that it is just a marker. If you declare Comma as
your separator, your columns of numbers are not just numbers but are
preceded by a number of explicit spaces. These strings are imported
as text, and the apostrophe is an indicator that what is there is
text, not the number which it looks like and that you presumably want.

You can sort the problem after you have imported the text. Here's what to do:
o Select all the data cells - in other words. rows 4 onwards.
o Go to Edit | Find & Replace... (or Ctrl+F).
o For "Search for", enter " +" (that's space-plus, no quotes). That
regular expression matches any number of consecutive spaces.

o Leave "Replace with" empty.
o Click More Options and tick "Current selection only" and "Regular
expressions".

o Click Replace All.

The trick here is that after you have removed the spaces, Calc
reinterprets the values as it would do if you typed them initially.
It recognises the text without its leading spaces as numbers and
converts them and stores them as numbers. The apostrophes have disappeared!

But there is an easier way:
o In the Text Import dialogue, at "Separated by", tick Comma, Space,
and "Merge delimiters". Now you just have a little tidying up to do.

o Select A4 to G4 - all the parts of your now disconnected first line.
o Go to Format | Merge Cells (or click the Merge Cells button in the
Formatting toolbar).

o Reply Yes to moving the contents of the cells.
o Now use Merge Cells again to separate the merged cells. Your text
in now in A1.

o Repeat with A2 to B2.
o Repeat with C3 to D3 to reassemble "Dsn Height"
o Select A1 to C3.
o Cut and paste into B1.
o Delete column A.

Here's probably an even easier way:
o In the Text Import dialogue, at "Separated by", tick Comma, Space,
and "Merge delimiters", but also change "From row" to 4.

o Delete column A.
o If required, insert three new rows at the top and paste in or
retype the first three lines manually.

Another idea is to create a new spreadsheet and to use Insert | Sheet
From File... and to open the CSV file that way. Then you can import
the data twice with different Text Import settings and reassemble
different parts together on your real sheet.

I trust this helps.

Delete the first two lines from the CSV file to get the columns correct
remember that each spreadsheet looks at the first line to

find what columns to use, then open it in Calc.
Because there are a lot of spaces in front of the values it is interpret
as text not as numbers, the way OpenOffice handles text

it puts the ` in front of the number.
If you remove all the spaces it will load correctly as numbers. To save
you a lot of time there is an option with importing CSV files
tick the Detect special numbers and it will handle the values as numbers
instead of text.

You may be making this too complicated.

o Create that database. You've done this.
o Open the CSV file in OpenOffice as a spreadsheet. You've done this.
o Either:
+ Copy the material from the spreadsheet.
+ In the database, click Tables in the Database column on the left.
+ Paste not into an existing table, but into the Tables panel now
visible in the database.

+ Follow the instructions from the wizard.
o Or:
+ In the database, click Tables in the Database column on the left.
+ Select the material in the spreadsheet.
+ Drag the selection into the database and drop it in the Tables
panel now visible in the database.

+ Follow the instructions from the wizard.

Once you have done this, you can move any material around in database
tables if necessary, of course.

What you do incorrectly is hard to say, but you could start to copy the
data into a new table and see if that works.
From there you could check column names and attributes and check if
there are any differences.
Don't forget that spreadsheets are more forgiving on data
inconsistencies than databases.
Without more insight into the data structure there is not much more I
can say.

This sounds like a setup problem with TurboTax and/or your
system default applications. I don't use TurboTax but I'm
guessing you can probably open your tax data with 4.1.2. Can
you check your import settings for TurboTax and see if maybe
OpenOffice 4.0.0 is hardcoded there or something of that
nature. Or, you could have OpenOffice 4.0.0 specified as
your default spreadsheet program and that's the problem.

Please see our Installation Instructions for some guidance
on assigning default applications in Windows.

http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=51387highlight=xml

But the thing is I cannot find a good step-by-step-documentation which would
help to write create the filter and embed it into the calc file and then to
open my xml document in calc. The particular questions are:

-what do I have to do to begin with
-what editor I have to use to write my filter
-how can I test it
-could you provide some examples of filters
and so on.

Could you please provide me a precise documentation for open office 4.1.1. calc
or assist me on this issue?

Thank you in advance.

Cheers
Mariya

Hi Mariya,

what kind of xml is it? There exists already some filters and perhaps
one of them will open your file. Or you will find an existing filter in
an extension.

Are you forced to use xml or do you can get another format, e.g. csv, as
well?

If you really need an own filter, then you would not embed it into the
Calc file, but add it to your OpenOffice via Tools XML Filter Settings
 New

-what do I have to do to begin with

You would need to learn writing XSLT. That is independent of OpenOffice.

-what editor I have to use to write my filter

You can use every editor, which can write in encoding utf-8. But of
cause you will looking for a editor which give you some comfort. Which
one is suitable, depends on your operating system.

-how can I test it

Tools XML Filter Settings has a Test button, but I have never used
it, because I do not write my own filters.

-could you provide some examples of filters
and so on.

You can look into existing filters, for example the Ms Excel 2003 XML
filter in path to
OpenOffice\share\xslt\import\spreadsheetml\spreadsheetml2ooo.xsl

OpenOffice 4.1.1 Calc implements the standard ODF 1.2. You find the
documentation in https://www.oasis-open.org/standards#opendocumentv1.2
and especially, for the grammar, the schema
http://docs.oasis-open.org/office/v1.2/os/OpenDocument-v1.2-os-schema.rng

There exist some small additions, but you can handle them later.

Kind regards
Regina

I am looking for a way to import into OO a form created by a third party
with Adobe in PDF format. I want to be able to fill out the form with my
computer, rather than print a blank form and fill in by hand.

For reasons not known to me, the third party did not create a fillable PDF
form, which I can fill out with the 'puter, either within OO or with Adobe
 reader.

so, the form is just a compilation of field labels and series of underscores or
drawn lines or rectangles instead of meaningful input boxes. in such a case, i
think, the easiest way is to take snapshots in good resolution, insert them
into a writer document in background and place frames on top of those lines or
rectangles. i used to do so.

another way is to insert typewriter comments over the input lines in a pdf
reader. adobe's latest reader allows typewriting.

I don't think the fact that some forms can be filled means that forms
not designed to be filled must somehow be able to be filled.

o In Adobe Reader, use Edit | Copy File to Clipboard.
o Paste into a new Draw document.
o Resize the image to its original dimensions. (Hold down the Shift
key to preserve the aspect ratio.)
o Insert text boxes as necessary over the image of your form. Use the
Text button in the Drawing toolbar and drag to produce each text box.

o Use File | Export as PDF... to create your final PDF file.

It's fiddly and messy, but it works. I've used it.

I trust this helps.
