[users] Spell-check Regions
Hi All, I have this really strange issue with the spell-checker. Without me being aware of pressing any keys to request this, the spell-checker seems to break longer docements up into several sections where the spell-checker is either on or off. In an 'off' section, I can't find a way to turn it back on, and the icon up on the command bar always shows 'on'; clicking it several times makes no difference. Does anyone else see this behaviour and how can I stop it happening. If it is some kind of strange design feature, how do I get the spell-checker turned back on again in an 'off' section? So many things to consider. About a year ago I would have voted for Obama. I have changed my mind three times since then. I watch all the news channels, jumping from one to another. I must say this drives my husband crazy. But, I feel if you view MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News, you might get some middle ground to work with. About six months ago, I started thinking where did the money come from for Obama. I have four daughters who went to College, and we were middle class, and money was tight. We (including my girls) worked hard and there were lots of student loans. I started looking into Obama's life. Around 1979 Obama started college at Occidental in California . He is very open about his two years at Occidental, he tried all kinds of drugs and was wasting his time but, even though he had a brilliant mind, did not apply himself to his studies. Barry (that was the name he used all his life) during this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chando and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan. *During the summer of 1981*, after his second year in college, he made a round the world trip. Stopping to see his mother in Indonesia , next Hyderabad in India , three weeks in Karachi , Pakistan where he stayed with his roommate's family, then off to Africa to visit his father's family. My question - Where did he get the money for this trip? Nether I, nor any one of my children would have had money for a trip like this when they where in college. When he came back he started school at Columbia University in New York. It is at this time he wants everyone to call him Barack - not Barry. Do you know what the tuition is at Columbia ? It's not cheap! to say the least. Where did he get money for tuition? Student Loans? Maybe. After Columbia he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer for $12,000. A year. Why Chicago ? Why not New York ? He was already living in New York . By chance he met Antoin Tony Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria , and a real estate developer in Chicago . Rezko has been convicted of fraud and bribery this year. Rezko, was named Entrepreneur of the Decade by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association. About two years later, Obama entered Harvard Law School . Do you have any idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School ? Where did he get the money for Law School ? More student loans? After Law school, he went back to Chicago . Rezko offered him a job, which he turned down. But, he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill Galland. Guess what? They represented Rezar which is Rezko's firm. Rezko was one of Obama's first major financial contributors when he ran for office in Chicago. *In 2003*, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in providing Obama with seed money for his U.S. Senate race. *In 2005*, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwoood District of Chicago for $1.65 million (less than asking price). With ALL those Student Loans - Where did he get the money for the property? On the same day Rezko's wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price. The London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born Billionaire loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama's new home was purchased. Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many times with Rezko.

Does anyone else see this behaviour and how can I stop it happening. If it is some kind of strange design feature, how do I get the spell-checker turned back on again in an 'off' section? Jonathan The fact that the spell checker is turned on doesn't mean a particular piece of text will be checked. That depends also on the language set for that piece of text. If the language is set to none, or to a language for which there is no dictionary installed, then no spell checking will be done. In OOo 2.4.1on Windows (and possibly earlier versions and on other OS's) the current language is indicated at the bottom of the Writer window. If you select a piece of text you can change the language for that piece by clicking on the lnaguage name an making an appropriate choice. It's possible you have a style defined that has an improper language setting. Language is an attribute of Character styles and can be set or changed there. FormatStyles and FormattingCharacter Styles (second icon from left at top of pane). Select the style in question, right click and choose Modify from the context menu. The language setting is on the Font tab. You can also see/set the language from the Paragraph style for the selected text. Clicking the AutoSpellcheck button in the Standard toolbar several times may not be a useful test: an even number of clicks should produce no difference! A better test is to click it once. Does anyone else see this behaviour and how can I stop it happening. If it is some kind of strange design feature, how do I get the spell-checker turned back on again in an 'off' section? I think the button should toggle between on and off whatever the condition of the text. Do you mean that the button will not become highlighted when you click it, or just that the expected wavy red underlines do not appear? If the latter, then you simply have the language of sections of your text set wrongly. Put the cursor into the text at a relevant point (or select some text). The set language is shown in the centre of the Status Bar at the foot of the window. Setting the language to [None] suppresses spell-checking. Spell-checking also cannot happen if you have the language set to one for which you do not have the appropriate dictionary installed. Language can be a character property, a character style property, and a paragraph style property (but not a paragraph property, although an entire paragraph can be given a language setting using the character property, of course). You may have to change any of these to correct your problem. Note that character-level language choice can be carried over if you paste text from another source: could that be how it got set? (Use Paste Special... | Unformatted text to avoid this.) I trust this helps. Brian Barker - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It is also necessary that the original cells do not contain the strings January, etc., but concrete dates like 01/01/2008 + a number format that only shows the full month. Hi, I am a greenhorn with OOo, but looking forward to use OOo asap!!! I downloded OOo 2.4 succesfully as it seems to me. However, upon starting up the X terminal window opens, I understand this is normal on a Mac (use OS X 10.5.5). After some 20 sec I get an error message Command timed out. I click OK, after that nothing happens anymore. Does anybody have an idea? I'm thankful for any help! rene

My answers appear later on. 2008/10/11 Andrew Douglas Pitonyak [EMAIL PROTECTED] Ely Schoenfeld wrote: Sorry, I forgot to add the question: Does some one knows how to delete the links to other documents from a macro/function/button? Ely. Do you mean in a Calc document? Yes, I'm talking about the whole calc document. Do you mean for a specific Sheet? See previous answer. If you call getLinkUrl() on the sheet in question, does it return something? Well, the first time it returned the current file url, I mean the file where the tests where done, instead of the remote file. Then I closed and opened again the document and now it's returning just the path to My documents (very strange) Better yet, if you call getLinkMode(), what value is returned? It returns 0 (com.sun.star.sheet.SheetLinkMode.NONE) What happens if you call oSheet.setLinkMode(com.sun.star.sheet.SheetLinkMode.NONE)? It just changes the result of getLinkMode(), nothing else. I think it establishes the mode for future copy/paste procedures. (Am I right?) I present the functions I used at the end of this message, just in case someone else needs them. While I was looking for a way to delete the links to other documents from a macro, I found someone who wants to do the same: DDE Refresh and clean up at http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20t=4076p=49673#p49673 Someone redirected him to Programming actions, where macro recorder and API fail at http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=22845postdays=0postorder=ascstart=0 The author of the second thread says: - begin --- The following describes a procedure to circumvent this problem. The basic steps are (1) Create a TopWindowListener (2) execute the dispatch (3) the dispatch opens a new top window (4) the top window listener is called (5) inside the top window listener, the accessibility interface is used to execute the desired user interactions (6) inside the top window listener, the dispatch dialog's OK Button is pressed to terminate the dispatch (7) the TopWindowListener is removed -- end --- That is a great thing to know. My problem is that I haven't been able to understand the use of the api documentation enough, so I cant figure out how to modify the examples presented there, to my benefit. Um, you don't understand this method for the same reason that even advanced macro programmers shutter when they think about using this method to control OOo. I would describe this method as: Write code that directly manipulates OOo's native Dialogs and controls. Doing this requires a lot of information about these dialogs that is not published anywhere. The discovery process is error prone and causes OOo to lock. Yes, I understood that much.:) In other words, this is not what you want to learn. This method is only to be used as a last resort if you must solve a problem for which there is no other solution. I consider this about the same as using OOo to write a document with detailed instructions written on a piece of paper because your computer has no monitor. Ha ha ha,,, a very good example... hahaha. It is better if you are able to learn the native API. Unfortunately, there are a few things that are not possible with the current API (such as obtaining a list of available printers). Based on your previous answers, I am pretty sure that I am not understanding what it is that you desire to do. In other words, you have not created a linked sheet, because clearly you do not have a linked sheet. Your usage of the word link, mislead me (so to speak) :-) Are you using external data links? I am not really sure what you are doing at this point When I point to data from other documents, changing things back and forth over time, I get a lot of rows at menu Edit/Links... that are no longer needed. What I want to accomplish is to press a button that copy the few (5) cells with foreign data and paste them as text, and then delete all those links at Edit/Links... The first part because OO Calc becomes very slow with a bunch of open open files that have references to each other, and the second part to keep things clean and avoid the update links dialog that appears every time I open the document I couldn't open the mailing list guidelines now so I don't know if I'm permitted to add attachments, meanwhile I give this link to download a 3 very small calc documents with an example and instructions.(A 24k zip file) http://www.mitalteli.com/tmp/ootest_HelpNeededToDeleteLinksToOtherCalcDocuments-20081013.zip Thank you in advance. See bellow. 2008/10/11 Andrew Douglas Pitonyak [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you check the link mode, what is it? NONE, NORMAL, or VALUE? What happens if you use a macro to set from NONE to something else? It has a 0, nothing changes when I change it's value. Some thing strange that I discovered is that the problem doesn't happen when using dde formulas, for example: =DDE(soffice;CONCATENATE(';file:///path/to/;$E$8);I11) Where: E8 Contains a File Name I11 Contains something like $Sheet1.$A$1 (The remote cell I want to link to) Every time the formula is entered, the link to that specific cell is added, and every time the formula es deleted, the link is deleted automatically. (OO3.0RC4, Win XP) Either way... I still think there is a bug with the ='file:///path/to/file.ods'#$Sheet.$A$1 formula. Ely. Ely Schoenfeld wrote: Hello all. OpenOffice.org is indeed free, if you download it from www.openoffice.org. As you've discovered, there are some people who are charging for this package. Some who sell it on a CD provide a useful function for those who can't download it. However, there are some unscrupulous types who charge a fair bit of money and provide little or nothing extra in return. Since you tried to cancel, I'd suggest you contact your credit card company, to have the charges reversed. I logged onto my mail server this morning and received 801 messages from this list, I would say at least 80% of them are from this Kaye Evans. Will you please stop. I'm receiving a nastyogram from my isp. This isn't helping my bandwidth cap. Thank you. I hope that you find what you're looking for, now go away. It seems my ISPs postfix was overloaded and the security system has reinjected messages which postfix has considered as broken damaged or what else. Currently I have over 28.000 message in the box and do not know how to download it, since I am on expensive and slow (240kBit/s) GSM/EDGE...
