[users] Preload OOo on Mac
Hi: I feel incredibly stupid. The first time I start OOo after a reboot it takes forever but I seem to remember that one can preload the basic functionality which means that, subsequently documents open quicker. I've been looking around on my Mac and I just can't find where the programs are stored - I'm too new to the Mac - and come to think of it, I'm not sure I know how to place the appropriate program in some kind of startup folder. If some kind Mac user can help me with these two points I'll be very grateful. Elizabeth Coons wrote: I paid for membership or something and got a password and user name. it doesn't work. All my downloads are useless, Can i please get my money back ? Elizabeth I'm afraid you seem to have been the victim of a scam. The OpenOffice.org office suite is completely free to download and to use. For ever. You can use it in any context you like - commercial, government, education, private, ... You can give it away to friends, relatives, colleagues, anyone. As many copies as you like. Free. No user names or passwords required. Download it from www.openoffice.org. The address to which you sent your message is run by *users* of the software who volunteer time to help others. The web site I just cited is also the source of lots of documentation: user guides, how-tos, FAQs and so on. All free. Just follow the links. When you install the software you will be asked to register. This is purely optional. If you prefer, just say never register and you won't be bothered again. It's mainly so the authors can get some idea of the number of users and where they are. The terms of the OpenOffice.org licence allow others to sell the software. Some sell it on CD/DVD for a small fee as a service to those with slow/unreliable/expensive internet connections. Some sell it with extra goodies such as professional training or enhanced functionality. But there's a third group who scam the unsuspecting. If you paid by credit card you may be able to recover your money via your credit card company, depending on the consumer protection laws in your country. OpenOffice.org is great software. It competes happily with MS Office. Try it. 2010/1/22 Elizabeth Coons msj...@sbcglobal.net: I paid for membership or something and got a password and user name. it doesn't work. All my downloads are useless, Can i please get my money back ? Elizabeth OpenOffice.org is free to download and use. Exactly what did you pay for and to whom? You should probably ask whoever you paid to, to get your money back. People on this list, like myself, are OpenOffice.org users who ask questions to each other. Sounds like ”a blind helping a blind” a little bit, but some users are experienced in different areas, so it works pretty OK. So writing here to ask for money back is like you bought something somewhere, get disappointed at it and then ask your neighbour to give you your money back… OpenOffice.org won't charge you for anything, but I think donations are welcome, but you don't get anything for it and no one will ever force you to pay anything. I am not a OOo expert and I don't know what you mean by a Wizard. But there are instructions starting at: http://download.openoffice.org/common/instructions.html that might help you. However, I have allways just downloaded from: http://www.openoffice.org/ If you are using windows, and logged on an Admim account, the file will be something like: OOo_3.1.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe usually on your desktop. After you execute this, you should have a desktop icon you can use to start Writer Hope this helps Harold Hauge On Sun, Jan 24, 2010 at 8:59 AM, Paul paul.m...@gmail.com wrote: I have been trying for several hours to start Writer. Elizabeth Coons wrote: I paid for membership or something and got a password and user name. it doesn't work. All my downloads are useless, Can i please get my money back ? Elizabeth Unfortunately, you seem to have run into one of the scam sites that makes you pay for something you can get free from the actual site, www.openoffice.org. There is no charge for downloading, using, distributing, or getting documentation and support through this mailing list and other sources. There are some paid support options, but chances are you won't need them at all. Unless you want to submit issues or contribute to forums, there is no need to register or use a password. Good luck with getting your money back, and the volunteers here will be glad to help you with any questions about using OpenOffice.org. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org

On Fri, Jan 22, 2010 at 18:08, Elizabeth Coons wrote: I paid for membership or something and got a password and user name. it doesn't work. Who did you pay? What were you paying for? What was the user name for? What was the password for? ( We don't need your name, or password. What it is for, might indicate why you have it, and where it would be used.) By answering those questions, it _might_ be possible to point you to where your user name and password should work correctly. It _might_ also be possible to point you to who, and where to contact the people who can (if they so desire) give you your money back. users@openoffice.org is a mailing list for users of Openoffice.org to voluntarily help each other with issues they encounter in using OOo. Anybody can subscribe to the list for gratis; Anybody can respond with, hopefully helpful/useful answers/responses to messages sent to the list; AFAIK, none of the list subscribers are paid to lurk/answer/respond to list messages. IOW, this is a strictly volunteer list. Any representation that this is a paid support list is a fraudulent representation. All my downloads are useless, a) What makes your downloads useless? b) Did you obtain your copy of OOo from OpenOffice.org: If not: Enable Javascript Go to http://download.openoffice.org/index.html Click on Download OpenOffice.org. The version of OOo that appears to be the closest match to the operating system, and language that you are currently using, will be downloaded. OOo is distributed gratis. There is an place that one can click on, to _voluntary_ contribute money to the project. This request if purely voluntary, and in no way affects your ability to obtain a copy of OOo. Can i please get my money back ? Nobody on this list knows who you paid your money to. To get your money back, you will have to contact the organization that you paid. Depending upon how you paid, you _may be able_ to dispute the charge with the _bank_ that did the transaction. users@openoffice.org is a mailing list of people that either need help, or like to provide help in using Openoffice.org. It has no connection to any organization that sells OOo. It assuredly is not a paid support list. If you paid for a copy of openoffice.org, and all you were given was a download link, what happened is technically, legal, but morally, unethical. If you were told you would be getting paid support, and were provided with users@openoffice.org as your paid support, you were swindled. Depending upon your legal jurisdiction, you may be able to pursue this through the equivalent of the department of consumer affairs and/or attorney general in your geographical area. jonathon - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org

[users] Mail Merge won't create multiple letters
Sorry if this is a FAQ. I did look but didn't see any resolution to this. I'm trying to create a simple mail merge setup. I created my form document easy enough as well as the Base database of recipients, but when I go through the mail merge process, it always creates a single letter and quits. I can select which one by using the wizard and selecting the edit document button on the wizard after the merge is done, but no matter what I get one page (the form is one page), not as many as in the database records. What I'd expect is if there are two records in the database, then make a two page document with each page being one letter, or something like that. Am I doing it wrong somehow? Any help is appreciated! - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org

Elizabeth Coons wrote: I paid for membership or something and got a password and user name. it doesn't work. All my downloads are useless, Can i please get my money back ? Elizabeth I don't know who you paid your money to, but you don't have to pay or register to download, install or use OpenOffice.org. Just go to www.openoffice.org and download the version for your computer. Again, there's absolutely no charge for it. You'll have to contact whoever you paid for a refund or, failing that, contact your credit card company to reverse the charges. Please do not ever pay for OpenOffice.org, unless you're purchasing a CD from some vendor. There are some who scam people like you, by charging for something that is available for free. Also, once you've downloaded OpenOffice.org, you're entitled to pass it around to whoever you want and use it on as many computers as you wish. Again, no payment and no registration necessary. However, you can register if you wish and donations are always appreciated. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org

But it won't save multiple pages. I hit save OR PRINT, and it gives me one page only. For two records I should get two pages. However that doesn't seem to happen. Hope this answers some Questions.
