[users] export to e-mail problem
Hello, I am using the French version of OO 3.1.1 for Mac PowerPC version. I have come across a problem with a useful feature. I used to use export PDF to e-mail all the time. But, sicn upgraded to this version, it works, but onnly partially. You see, when I send PDF to e-mail, it goes to the 1st screen and asks me for parameters on how to send the file. Then, it instantly opens my mail program. But, the problem lies in the fact that while it opens the mail program, but it does not create a new message or put the newly created PDF in a message. I use Apple Mail. Ideas on how to correct this? Joe - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org
Re: [users] question on auto-compression in OO and NeoOffice
Hello, On Feb 26, 2007, at 7:36 PM, Paul wrote: There is no ability (regardless of platform being used) to alter the compression of ODF formatted files. The ODF format is an ISO standard so to change it would cause all sorts of headaches. I've read on a different thread that the compression level used in OOo files (zip) is actually pretty light. I guess my idea that I had is that you could adjust the amount of compression like it done in ZIP or for example JPG. It is all standardized, but you adjust what you need for compression depending on the application. My thoughts. [users] question on auto-compression in OO and NeoOffice
Hello, I am using NeoOffice for Mac, and I had a question about the compression used in OO and NeoOffice. I know it is meant to save disk space and all. But, when a file is only a page or two of text, it is already pretty small, so I really do not need it. I find that when I save anything on my Mac in NeoOffice (as well inOO) the saving freezes all other NeoOffice actions for 20-30 seconds. This is kind of annoying, and I am obliged to stop and wait for it. Why is it that a Word document of equal size takes 1second, and OO and NeoO takes 20-30? Can we turn off the compression? Or, is this a negative aspect of NeoOffice and OO? Thanks Joe - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[users] I lose formatting when copying from document to document
Hello, I have been using both openoffice and neo office while this problem persists. I have been working on a document and I send part of it away to someone to have them translate it from English to French for me. She sends me a document with the translated text. I copy the text, formatted text (heading 1 and heading 2) and all. But, when I put it into my text, it loses that formatting, r messes it up (turns it all in to heading 1, or into heading 2). Following this, I have to take my time and reformat ALL of the headings. This takes an extra 20-25 minutes, the documents I work on are long (35-40 pages). This document (a newsletter) is done every 2-3 weeks. I would like to find a solution to this:) Thanks for your ideas. [users] how do I stop the auto-underline-ing?
I have been using OO for a bit. I find it to be easy to use, even though I do have to adapt MO tasks to OO, which is usually not overly difficult. An annoying feature that I have found, which is just as nnoying in Microsoft Office is the fact the out of the box, the two office suites automatically 'internet-ize' e-mail addresses and web pages. This shows up in letters and other uses where I do not want this to happen. How do I turn this off? Joe
Re: [users] Re: reveal codes
Hello, THis discussion should really be moved to discuss or social. However, I see that some of you really like WP so I thought that the following might encourage you to accept OOo as it is and go on to other more important things. While you might bringup a point that this 'seems' to be dragging along, I disagree that we should have to move on. A list like this is to discuss the usage of the software, and discuss improvements. Will these ideas be brought forth to the developmental stage, I hopeso, but unless it is deemed important enough, it might not make it. Your argument of accepting it because of prices of WP, well, we could just accept Microsoft Office and accept the prices. Bad argument. I personally has used styles, but styles do not always apply in all cases. So, we must use the bold, italics, etc... So, this is where reveal codes would come in handy. As for being stuck with the features as is, lets bring this up to the people that do the development. Reveal codes is a valuable tool, and many people have grown to like it. I believe that instead of saying that it is not possible because of the way OO is structured, that we talk to the programmers to work out a solution. Joe

Re: [users] Microsoft says Open Office.org 10 years behind
Another problem is a lack of support. What 800 number do you call at 2 am on Saturday night to get tech support for your 500 seats of OpenOffice.org ? I know the one to call if it's a problem with MSO. Granted it will cost me $35 a hour (or more) to call them - but it's there. This is an argument that even I can anbswer too, the non-techie ;-) You say that there is no support? True. But then, Linux had nothign for the longest time, and then a handful on companies tossed their name in the ring: RedHat. There is a CRM software that I use called SugarCRM. It is out there, availabel for free. But, they also offer paid support for the clients, should they desire technical support. I would say that as it gets accepted more and more, some entreprenurial person will take off with this. A help desk company for OO. It will happen, it is just a matter of time. My 2cents worth Joe

Ross, Thanks for your explination. But, I did exactly all that, and once I click on the DMG file, it does not work. Ideas? I have downloaded the software 3-4 times on different occasions and tried installing it. Joseph 2006/2/21, Ross Bernheim [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Andy, There is no need to move any files. Once you double click the dmg file and the disk icon appears on the desktop, double click to open it if a window doesn't open automatically. Once opened, just double click on the installer or package and it will install or work from there. The dmg is a disk image and when unpacked you have a usable image mounted on the desktop. You can move the contents to your hard disk or use as is. Using from the image is quick and easy and once closed, the original compressed dmg file is still on your disk if you need to use it again. Sorry if some of this is a bit basic, but there are many neophytes who read this list and may not be familiar with it. I use both OOo 2 and NeoOffic/J. Both have their charms and foibles. Re: [users] I'm using MACOSX 10.3.9 OpenOffice 2.0 under X11 1.0 - XFree86 4.3.0
Hello, There are two possible sources of the problem that I can think of. First, the file from OOo is bad. Some credence is added to this thought since others are having the problem as well. Who do we contact on the OO team to verify the state of the downlaodable file? Second, a problem on your Mac. Perhaps the extracting program that turns the dmg into an image is at fault. Or there is another program that has changed or corrupted something on your Mac that causes the problem. Well, when looking at a DMG (disk image) is a system thing. I use it quite often while downloading other files. While it might be a problem, it does not seem to cause problem in any of my other downloaded files. Has anyone else had problems using DMG files other than OO? Joseph

Let me correct something I said before. I must correct what I said about downloading and clicking on the file and it timing out. I downloaded the file from the OO website I clicked on the dmg file It opened in a window and there was an install file. I moved the file to the desktop I clicked on the file I then get the response: command timed out Then I click OK, and it quits. Well, that is the whole sequence. Ideas... I recommend that the md5 test embedded within Apple's disk utility not be used as it is proprietary and not standard with the accepted md5 algorithm. In brief, if you use Apple's md5, you'll never see a match with any other md5 value which wasn't generated by Apple or Apple based routines.
