Thats the "chapter" format

   Insert => fields => others
Choose the referencestab, select "Myparanumber" in the type column
select Myparanumber in the selection column
   Choose format chapter
   insert

That wil insert the "paragraph numbering".if you don't wish to see the
number variable just set it to a very small font with the same color as the
background (white?)...and a more logical variable names would probably be
mycrossrefs

The other option is of course to use the standard functionality manual
references as described elsewhere in this thread - easier I suppose. I tend
to like the number range variable - ideal for figure numbering as they can
be referenced as example figure 5 in chapter 3.5

[users] Re: paragraph reference howto???

2007-04-25 Thread Kjell Lindbo
Hi

Hmm...any "number range variable" can be referenced . Is that what you are
looking for ?
   Insert => fields => others
Choose the variables tab, select "number range" in the type column
In the name field, write a "good" name - "Myparanumber" ??
Press insert (hopefully creates a "1" in your document)

Next time you want to insert "Myparanumber"

   Insert => fields => others
Choose the variables tab, select "number range" in the type column
select Myparanumber in the selection column
Insert (gives you a 2 in the document, and so on)

To insert a reference to the number
   Insert => fields => others
Choose the referencestab, select "Myparanumber" in the type column
select Myparanumber in the selection column
Choose format (numbering is one option there)
   insert

Hi again!

Thank you for your answer.

I tried your suggestions, but it is still very slow - so it seems the
solution for the moment is to keep the page pane turned off and wait for
the next version

However, I did not know about the memory options so I learned
something

[users] Slow pagepane in draw (possibly in impress)

2006-12-15 Thread Kjell Lindbo
Hi!

When a draw file gets complicated or consisting of large includes, turning
on the page pane makes OO go into a "slow motion" state. On my machine it
constantly eats 50% of my cpu. It seems to be constantly updating the thumbs
in the pagepane.

Appearantly the pagepane is the only place where pages can be reordered so
it is neccesarry to turn it on from time to time.

Do any of you know of/if it is
1) possible to turn of the graphics/thumbnails in the pagepane,
2) another way of reordering pages?? (meaning not dragging them in the
pagepane)

Hi! Thanks . I could not find the menu item you are refering to in
draw/impress (I found it in writer.)maybe I have a different
version...

But , right now , I realized that there is a "picture placeholder" button on
the options toolbar..when I switch that on the paths are shown instead
of the picturesa little bit stupid of me not to see that before now

[users] How to display paths to linked images in draw or impress

2006-11-29 Thread Kjell Lindbo
Hi!

A draw/impress question:

I tend to get a "million" linked images in my documents. From time to time
I loose track on were the files aresohow do I figure out the path to
the file "behind" an image.

I could go to edit=>links .. but thats no help when you have 200 images
linked.

I was hoping for something like right-clicking on an image and finding the
path in some property-menu..

Any ideas??

Wellunless you really want to use search and replace. There is an
automated procedure to do most of this in Writer.

Highlight the area you want to fix, then goto Format - Autoformat - Apply.

Tings to remember:
1) The automated procedure requires that the highlighted text has the
"default" paragraph format (or it will not work).
2) If it still do not work - You might have to go to Tools-AutoCorrect - Tab
options - scroll down to the bottom and make sure that "combine single line
paragraphs if length greater than" is turned on and maybe change the default
value.

[users] Re: oooDraw: word wrap text & resize shape to fit text

2006-04-04 Thread Kjell Lindbo
You have probably not created a shape but a plain rectangle or polygon. I
do not think these options are available for them. Try creating your
polygons from the "basic shapes" or the "flowchart" buttons in the drawing
toolbar and you will be allowed to do word wrap etc

This seems like it should be an easy one, but I must be missing something.

I am trying to create a relatively simple flowchart using
OpenOffice.orgDraw. For each object that I create, I want to "Word
wrap text in shape"
and "Resize shape to fit text". However, these options are unavailable
(grayed-out).

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you,

ThanksI'll just stick with the workaround for the momentthis is gone
take to much time to dig into...I suppose there are at least two
possible explanations, some weird "set up" on my PC or a 2.01 problem. And
if it is a 2.01 problem (a real bug) and not a 2.00 problem at least you
also will know which switch to turn offhe..he..

If it creates "big problems" for me in the future I'll take the time to
report it as a "bug".

Hi again!

Tanks for your interest in this strange problem. I have checked all the
parameters you mentioned and they are the same. I then used a couple of
hours to try to figure out were the problem is and here is the result:

I suddenly realised that in a new document "file new text document", the
problem were nonexistent. So I made a new document with two lines and
stripped down my "problem" document to the same two lines. Then I unziped
the odt files and fiddled around with them until the problem document should
be equal to the new ok documentand to my surprisethe problem still
existed...

It turns out that if I make a new document in writer it is ok.then I
save it...and reopen it...and the problem is suddenly theregraphics text
do no plot or insert properly..I might have been wrong to blame the
problem on draw.

Here is the workaround I have figured out..go to tools-options-load/save
and switch of "load user-spesific settings with the document"..the
problem disappearsbeats me..and I have no clue on what
"user-specific" settings that could cause such an effect???

[users] Copying figures from draw to writer - problems with text and font

2006-02-27 Thread Kjell Lindbo
Hi!

When I copy a figure from draw and paste it into writer the text changes
length??. This make my figures kind of difficult to read...and restricting
me from using draw to make figures.

Example - make a textobject , times new roman 8 pt in draw. Highlight the
object (not only the text), copy the object and paste it into writerthe
text extends in length.actually the letters look the same but tiny
spaces are inserted between the letters.

The same effect can be seen by inserting a text graphics object directly in
writer.

I've checked all the text/character parameters I could find but could not
find any differences.

Any swittch/button I could try to fix this or is it a bug (feature)

OpenOffice 2.01 on windows.

Kjell L.
