Between http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Openoffice.org and http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOffice.org you'll have what the most comprehensive listing of the differences between the various versions, that is publicly available. Until LibreOffice arrived on the scene, very little attention was paid to the various versions. jonathon -- No human will see non-list, non-bulk, non-junk email sent to this address. Well I know that Debian/Ubuntu allowed me to uninstall Writer while allowing me to still have Calc and Impress working. It is not like that in Windows. I actually did that one, thinking that if I uninstall one part the rest will go as well. Not in Ubuntu/Debian. Looks like I will have to see what OOo's site has to offer in more extensions. I am using the Debian version from OOo's web site now, instead of Ubuntu's Go-OO version it its repository. OOo's version is where the Printer Admin. came from. As for the Help system, I thought I tried all the options. I have used it before I changed from Go-OO to OOo's version. I wonder if I will confuse the mix if I tried Lotus Symphony 3.x along side of the current OOo version. IBM claims that they too OOo's code and made it better. The Claim it is a more effective challenger to MSO than OOo is. See the article in the link. http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Enterprise-Applications/Lotus-Symphony-30-Vies-to-Eclipse-OpenOfficeorg-as-Microsoft-Office-Challenger-788085/?kc=EWKNLLIN11092010STR1 Hopefully I do not mess the system up any more that it is already. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org

When I open the help and search (using the Find tab in the application help) on "printer administration" I get a result, a help page titled: "Setting up Printer, Fax and Fonts Under UNIX Based Platforms" This page describes spadmin. Do you see this page when you search the application help? I typed in Printer Administration in the help option of OOo 64-bit Debain 3.2.1. I got nothing. For whatever reasons you got answers and I did not, it is not the issue at this time. In the help option, there are four tabs: Contents, Index, Find, Bookmarks. You must click the Find tab before entering Print Administration in the Search term. Click the Find button and then click the Display button at the bottom. The page mentioned will appear. It does in mine, and I use the same OOo version you do (Deb 64 bit) Dan Another posting tells me that there are many executable installed with OOo, and some are not included as menu items. Then there is the wonder why P.A. is placed in the menu with one version and not the other. Why Go-OO does not think it is needed and Oracle's OOo does. I do wonder why OOo needs a "Setting up Printer, Fax and Fonts Under UNIX Based Platforms". Is this not a function of "System / Administration / Printing"? The real thing is that the OOo web site 64-bit Debian 3.2.1 version has it while the Go-oo version in Ubuntu's system does not. Why is it there for one and not there for the other? Go-OO and OO.o are not identical. There are many differences. C. As I wondered a few months back, is there a listing of the differenced between the various branches of OOo. When I asked about why I should use Go-OO instead of OOo, from Go-OO's people, I got the answer that it is better than OOo but no concrete info why. Do any of you know of a web page that gives a side by side account on what this other OOo based packages have that OOo does not? It would be something to see. Also, there was an article a few days ago, will have to find it again, that Lotus 123 is claiming that they are "out shining" OOo and will be the version to beat. They want to be the one people turn to when they dump MSO. They are also claiming to be better than OOo, but I do not remember reading any differences there either. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org

I have two versions of my Color Laser for Ubuntu at this time. It is a little harder to do that with Linux, for me at this time, but I had one B&W laser printer setup as at least 4 or 5 different printers with options on print quality [draft, normal, high] and manual-paper-feeding-only. I no longer have that printer, so I do not remember. Currently, my Color Laser has both Network Connect and Direct USB Connect version in my printer selection. When printing very large file size pages [heavy graphics, etc.], it takes a very long time for the file to print via the fastest network connection it supports, but less than a tenth of the time via a USB direct connection. I use network connection 99% of the time and a 32 foot long USB cable for the direct connection. I must have a separate name for each since you cannot change the connection type in the menu options. Are you saying that this Printer Admin. option would help with these things? The only thing I see in the Printer Admin. feature seems to be that it shows the fonts that may be built into the hardware. I never use those built in fonts, or not since Windows 95 came out. -- I wish my printer did have the duplex option, maybe next time. Command line - never did that except once and it did not include any options. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org

[users] OpenOffice.org 3.2 Printer Administration?
When I moved from Ubuntu's Go-oo version to Oracle's version on the OOo web site, I noticed that there is a new listing on the "Gnome Panel > Applications > Office" called "OpenOffice.org 3.2 Printer Administration". What is it used for? The Help section inside OOo 3.2.1 does not have any listing for it. I checked the Document Project linked from the OOo site and I did not find a reference for it either, or at least my searches did not find any. So what is this actually used for? The only thing I see is a font option that is not part of the normal properties of a printer properties. The Font substitution table in that option looks different than the one in the "Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Fonts" replacement table. The real thing is that the OOo web site 64-bit Debian 3.2.1 version has it while the Go-oo version in Ubuntu's system does not. Why is it there for one and not there for the other? What is it really used for, or why is it needed for Oracle's version of OOo on the OOo site? As I said, this is the first time I have seen it, but cannot find any reference to it in any documentation I have access to. Any Help?
