There is FAR more time wasted deleting these never ending series of
responses to these kinds of posts than the posts themselves.

I have an idea. DON'T FEED THE TROLLS.

If you guys want to have a conversation about idiots who cannot manage
their own online lives, fine, but please DO IT OFF LIST.

Terry,

The problems that SOME of those people have are real.

However, many of them have a problem between the chair
and the keyboard...

They send to the address users@openoffice.org instead of
users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org, because - if one doesn't
take the time to read, it looks similar... and of course,
sending to us (all multiple-thousands of us in every timezone
on the planet most of the countries...) doesn't work.

OR, they send to the right address, which prompts the
EZ-mlm software to send them a confirmation request...
BUT... the confirmation request gets caught as spam
and they never see it.
OR... they confirmation request goes to their SUBSCRIBED
address (as it must) but they answer from a gmail or yahoo
address and EZ-MLM ignores that (it must be a prankster
trying to unsubscribe a legitimate account, since it's
not coming from the subscribed account).

For the rest, if you are one of the unfortunates who does
EVERYTHING right and the @#$!%^&*! still won't let you go...
then you send an e-mail to that list-owner address and
hope that the real human does his job.

When THAT doesn't work (somebody went on vacation and
didn't forward his inbox), you search the recent week's
posts for "ADMIN" in the subject line and get the address
of one of the moderators like "Paul", who then does
something useful for you.

If even THAT fails to work, then your god is truly vengeful
and there's nothing to be done by any human agency. Ritual
human sacrifices to Baal will be needed... just don't pick me.

You are not talking to a company. You are talking to several thousand
USERS of OpenOffice.org office software, who use this mailing
list (users@openoffice.org) to help each other get the most out
of the program.

You did not buy OpenOffice.org. It is free / no-cost.
So you did not pay any money to any of us. We don't owe you
anything. We are just nice (mostly) helpful (usually) people
(except some trolls... :-) ) acting as a mutual-assistance
society.

If you don't like OpenOffice for your needs, perhaps you
should direct your correspondence to whoever "sold" it to
you in the first place -- and ask them why they lied to you.

Also ask them why they steered you to this VOLUNTEER
mailing list.

Let us know how they respond, please. We'd be interested
to know who is using us as their "tech support" when they
sell OpenOffice to naive people.

REGARDING your desire to UNsubscribe from the list, here
is some important information:

To unsubscribe, send a blank e-mail to:
 users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org
For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org

NOTE
a) The e-mail to users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org can/should
be empty (any content will be ignored)

b) users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org is NOT the same as
   users@openoffice.org - it's a special administrative
address that triggers the listserver software to perform
an action (to attempt to unsubscribe you)

c) When the listserver receives the unsubscribe e-mail, it
sends an unsubscribe confirmation request to the
subscribed e-mail account and then waits for a response

d) The user who wishes to unsubscribe MUST respond to
that confirmation request FROM that account (not from
any other e-mail account) - otherwise, the listserver
assumes that the unsubscribe request was just a prank
from some third party (not from the actual subscriber)
and does nothing. Only if the listserver receives proper
confirmation of the unsubscribe confirmation request
e-mail does it act to unsubscribe that account.

 e) If all the above has been followed (it takes longer to
describe it than to actually just _do_ it), and the
account doesn't get unsubscribed... then the particular
user has encountered a known problem that afflicts a
small minority of unsubscribing users, and is stuck in
'unsubscribe hell' (TM), and should contact Paul or
another administrator for help.

Thanks,

 - Kevin

Define "real customer support system".

Both phone, and on-site support is available, albeit for a price.
Whether or not the OP is willing to pay for it, is a different question.

The OP didn't care enough to explain what they meant with their original
vocabulary, so I doubt that they would be willing to actually pay for
support.

I fully understand frustration. I feel it often. However, I also am mature
enough to behave considerately to other people and avoid shouting. Perhaps
she did not realize that all caps is shouting, but it is, and if she has
consideration for others, she will avoid continuing the practice when she is
apprised of it.

If you want paid support, I suggest you buy StarOffice from Sun.
OpenOffice.org, as a free, open source program, does not have a revenue
stream to support a "customer support system". Instead, users support one
another. Developers sometimes chime in to help as well. I, for one,
appreciate the efforts of so many experienced users who volunteer their time
and expertise to help us out.

Well, everyone use what they think is the best for them. Please
continue doing that.

Doesn't seem to be very necessary. The easiest thing would probably be
to not write at all.

By the way, it seems like your Caps Lock got stuck somehow. Please fix
this. Most people on most user's lists think it's quite annoying when
people use capitals only, because it often means that you are
screaming or shouting.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

PLEASE REMOVE ME FROM YOUR MAILING LISTS AS YOUR PROGRAM WAS AND IS OF NO USE
TO ME. iT DID NOT CONTAIN THE FEATURE i REQUIRED AND i WAS COMPLETELY UNABLE
TO GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER FROM YOUR COMPANY.

i NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER COMPANY BUT YOURS AND i WILL NO LONGER
TRY TO USE YOUR PROGRAM.

i HAVE FOUND SOMETHING BETTER THAT DOES HAVE THE FEATURE i REQUIRE AND THEY
RESPONDED TO MY QUESTION THE FIRST TIME i ASKED IT AND WERE ABLE TO HELP.

THANKS FOR NOTHING!
