If you are on Mac OSX, you *are* on *nix, a variant of BSD, actually, and
all of the common *nix utilities are already present. Just open a terminal
window as I suggested previously and try it!

Penny, you simply need to locate the downloaded file on your Mac
(possibly on the desktop) and right click on the file (CTRL-click with
one button mouse). Then select "Move to Trash" from the menu that
appears.

Generally, if you try to download again, you'll be warned there's
already a file with the same name and also asked if you wish to over-write.

I suggest that you restart your computer. Restarting will shut down any open
applications.

After the restart, delete the downloaded Openoffice dmg file and re-download
it.

Keep your laptop plugged in during the download to avoid your battery going
dead, because the download will take a long time on dialup.

When you open the downloaded dmg, you will have to install it. I assume you
know how to install applications from a disk image. Once it is installed,
you should be on your way.

Attachments generally don't make it through the mail list, so I don't
see yours. When you create a Word file, you have to select a Word
format, from the drop down list in Save as. You also have to ensure
there's the proper (.DOC) file extension. You can do this, by selecting
automatic file name extension, in Save as.

MS Office cannot read or write the ISO standard ODF (Open Document Format)
files used by OpenOffice. There are several solutions. In order of
preference:

1. Stop using MS Office and get your [e-mail] correspondents to switch to
OpenOffice too.
2. Install Sun's ODF plugin for MS Office. Have your e-mail correspondents
do this too. Free at "http://www.sun.com/software/star/odf_plugin/index.jsp";.
It allows MS Office to read and write ODF documents.
3. From OpenOffice, export (or e-mail directly without exporting) your
documents as PDF files which almost anyone can read - but not edit.
4. From OpenOffice, save (or e-mail directly without saving) your documents
as MS Office files which MS Office can read and edit. Make sure, if you save
in MS office format, that "Automatic file name extension" is ticked
(checked).

There's also free software to convert between ODF and Microsoft's new OOXML
("Office 2007") format. It's free at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/odf-converter but I hardly know anything
about it except to say that Sourceforge projects are highly regarded. Be
careful with OOXML. It's not widely used yet and there are significant
doubts about its future.

You might try saving in MS Word (.doc) or perhaps even plain ASCII

I assume you're saving in the default ISO standard ODF formats. I
suspect you are using Microsoft Office elsewhere as is your friend.
Since Microsoft refuses to support ODF, you'll have to save in Word
format. You do this in Save as, by selecting the appropriate format
from the drop down list. Also, ensure automatic file name extension is
selected. You can also email directly from OpenOffice, in Word format,
by clicking on File > Send > E-mail as Microsoft Word etc. However the
best solution is to introduce your friend to OpenOffice, or get them to
install the free Sun ODF plugin, which will enable ODF support in
Microsoft Office.

Assuming you have all the image file names in column B, and the prefix is
static for each image, try the following (you need to put it in column A):
=CONCATENATE("/files/1841186/uploaded/";B1)

You then need to copy this down for all 4800 rows.

OpenOffice is completely free unless you want it on a CD in which case you
might have to pay a small amount for the CD itself and for postage.

If you are on broadband you can download it from http://www.openoffice.org/ If
you want the (US) English version just click the green "Download" button and
follow the instructions. If you want a CD they are availailable on this page
too.

If you want to download a non-English version, click the blue "native language"
button, find the language you want and follow the instructions there.

Good luck.

I thought perhaps you could look up the information that I need.

My name is Geneva Gallandermy email address is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

it was [EMAIL PROTECTED] as I used both emails addresses. I know
it has been at least a year since my purchase perhaps
longer. Do not know which version only know I paid for the full
access.

Thank you for your time and assistance with this issue.

You don't need to purchase Open Office, you can download it for free:
