[ovirt-users] Vdsm Disk Images - preallocation vs thin provision
Hello List, i read http://www.ovirt.org/Vdsm_Disk_Images, however i am missing the information if thin provision will also take care if the max storage size? E.g. If i have 1000GB total storage. Will then ovirt save me from creating 11x 100GB Disks? 11x100GB Full Disks = 1000GB Total storage. Thanks, Mario ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

I had to create a second cluster in the same DC, and put my new 7.x host into this second cluster. What I'm doing at present is progressively upgrade each host and move them into the next 7.x cluster. Please note that migrating VM between 6.x and 7.x hosts is limited along what is described in the following BZ : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1150191 Best regards, -- Nicolas ECARNOT ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users
Re: [ovirt-users] Configuring ilo2 PM; passing ssh options
Hi Daniel, options defined in PM tab are used to pass custom settings of specific fence agent. In you case please take a look at man page for fence_ilo2. I looked there briefly and I'm afraid that your parameter is not supported. I see that fence_ilo3_ssh and fence_ilo4_ssh should support passing that option for SSH connection, so you could try them if they work with you fence device. [ovirt-users] HE setup failing: Cannot set temporary password for console connection
Hello, a week ago I set up a HE (3.5.2) with no problems; now this fails. I suspect storage trouble but cannot pinpoint it. Did someth. change there with the recent async release? The storage domain is NFS3 via a 1G link to a ZFS storage appliance. The export is working quite fast; tested with iozone running for over 24h without problems. Re: [ovirt-users] MAC spoofing for specific VMs
Yep. I had found that and applied it. Great solution! I actually wrote about it to the zen load balancer list. I will add it here for semi-documentation: -- just wanted to follow-up so that it is documented on how to get this working on oVirt/RHEV. I had to install a VDSM hook to allow mac-spoofing as a VM custom property like so (on each node): yum install vdsm-hook-macspoof That requires a restart of vdsmd on the node as well as a process on the oVirt/RHEV engine: engine-config -s UserDefinedVMProperties=macspoof=(true|false) Which then requires a restart of the oVirt/RHEV engine. After that, there will be an available custom properly on the VM called 'macspoof' that can be set to 'true'. Once I did this and shutdown/powered on the VMs, the cluster setup now completes successfully. You learn something every day. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The one thing I wish I had on these VMs is the ovirt-guest-agent which would likely work except that Debian 6 doesn't seem to have python-ethtool package/deps. If there are any plans to update the version of Debian that ZLB is based on, let me know. - On Tue, May 12, 2015 at 5:43 AM, Dan Kenigsberg dan...@redhat.com wrote: On Mon, May 11, 2015 at 02:12:22PM -0400, Christopher Young wrote: I'm working on some load-balancing solutions and they appear to require MAC spoofing. Re: [ovirt-users] MAC spoofing for specific VMs
On Mon, May 11, 2015 at 02:12:22PM -0400, Christopher Young wrote: I'm working on some load-balancing solutions and they appear to require MAC spoofing. I did some searching and reading and as I understand it, you can disable the MAC spoofing protection through a few methods. I was wondering about the best manner to enable this for the VMs that require it and not across the board (if that is even possible). I'd like to just allow my load-balancer VMs to do what they need to, but keep the others untouched as a security mechanism. If anyone has any advice on the best method to handle this scenario, I would greatly appreciate it. It seems that this might turn into some type of feature request, though I'm not sure if this is something that has to be done at the Linux bridge level, the port level, or the VM level. Any explanations into that would also help in my education. You can enable mac spoofing per VM or per vNIC using vdsm-hook-macspoof. See more details on the hook's README file https://gerrit.ovirt.org/gitweb?p=vdsm.git;a=blob;f=vdsm_hooks/macspoof/README;h=6bd11c1cb8ba2603d432fc8826eeb35738136c92;hb=79781a1945ceff6849a6a2b66cb5c4a1a5f8d874 ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

Hi Friends of oVirt I talked with the network administrator and remove the proxy rules to a range of IP's, installed oVirt with hosted engine on CentOS 7.1 and everything run just fine. Previously I set the enviroment settings to include the include proxy and proxy exceptions for the all the users of the system with a file in /etc/profile.d/ directory. I used to do this and always works. It's a bug in oVirt ? My ovirt-image-repository it's working now and with IP's behind the proxy doesn't. oVirt doesn't play nice behind a web proxy ? Not sure what's the exact issue, but engine-setup and hosted-engine --deploy do not directly download packages - they use yum for that. So if yum works for you, they should, too. Generally speaking, you can configure yum to use a proxy by setting 'proxy=$URL' in /etc/yum.conf. Best, ovirt-image-repository -- This article originally appeared on community.redhat.com. After solving that, I got the engine up an running, but something went wrong with my main storage. I have a datacenter with main storage being ISCSI, called vms-main-storage. This storagedomain is marked as inactive. The only action I can attemp to do to it is activate it. But it won't. It just fails and no reason is given in the web ui. I also tried activating it through the cli, and result is status 400, reason bad request, detail internal engine error. [ovirt-users] updated qemu-kvm for EL7
Hello.I'm just following up on an mailing list exchange from earlier in the month that was asking about the possibility of an updated libvirt for EL7.Sandro mentioned that this was being talked about but that the vdsm team had worked around the issue and could do what they needed with the existing supplied libvirt on EL7.I've used a different subject this time to keep the topic more obvious to where the discussion has evolved to. Sandro mentioned that the qemu-kvm-ev that is being built - and available on the cbs.centos.org - would be used in master and also 3.5.x to fix a bug present in the currently used qemu-kvm under certain circumstances. A question was asked about live-merge functionality on EL7, and apparently this was being investigated. My initial thought is that if we are already going to a newer version of qemu-kvm than the distro supplied version, then why wouldn't ovirt want to try and be fairly current with the version they use/consume? Why not provide live snapshot merging on this platform? Why push users over to Fedora? Many potential users won't want to use Fedora on their hosts for a number of reasons. We currently provide qemu-kvm-ev-2.1.2-23.el7.1 on cbs.centos.org. Qemu 2.3 was released earlier this month. Are there any plans to bump the qemu-kvm version we currently consume? It would be interesting to hear the rationale around what version we use/should be using. So my setup is: Host 1: centos 6.6 with ovirt 3.5 deployed as hosted engine. Had a few problems while deploying it, but eventually got it up and running. Host 2: same centos 6.6, same hardware. While executing hosted-engine --deploy, I am getting this error: [ INFO ] Stage: Setup validation [WARNING] Host name hyp-A2 has no domain suffix [WARNING] Failed to resolve hyp-A2 using DNS, it can be resolved only locally [ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Setup validation': [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/rhev/data-center/mnt/192.168.1.59:_media_ssd__raid10_ovirt_data__fast/f617dfce-4ac8-495b-a0f3-4f85ce39df27/ha_agent/hosted-engine.metadata' My storage machine is a separate host running RHEL 6.4. /etc/exports looks like this: /media/ssd_raid10/ *(rw,sync,all_squash) /media/ssd_raid10/ovirt *(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,anonuid=36,anongid=36,all_squash) *some other shares* Now here is the strange part: after repeatedly bashing my head against the wall I finally noticed the difference: on the first host it mounts as: 192.168.1.59:/media/ssd_raid10/ovirt/data_fast on /rhev/data-center/mnt/192.168.1.59:_media_ssd__raid10_ovirt_data__fast_ While on the second host it mounts as: 192.168.1.59:/media/ssd_raid10/ovirt/data_fast on /rhev/data-center/mnt/192.168.1.59:_media_ssd__raid10_ovirt_data__fast (note the lack of underscore in the end) That is what caused the problem - this hosted-engine.metadata file is actually a symlink. And because of different mount points on the second host it was pointing to nowhere. So I figured, maybe I should add / to the end of the nfs path. So I tried it like this: Please specify the storage you would like to use (iscsi, nfs3, nfs4)[nfs3]: Please specify the full shared storage connection path to use (example: host:/path): 192.168.1.59:/media/ssd_raid10/ovirt/data_fast/ [ INFO ] Installing on first host Please provide storage domain name. [hosted_storage]: As you can see, in this case it doesn't detect that it already has a hosted engine installed. So, I'm out of ideas how to make it work. There is clearly something unstable in the installation scripts, but does anyone have any idea how to make it work? Changing the subject and adding Allon. Please post relevant vdsm logs. Can you please also add the hosted_engine logs. [ovirt-users] Import KVM images to oVirt 3.5
Hi, I was looking into a way to import our KVM VM's/images into oVirt 3.5. Some of the VM's are Centos and others are Windows 2012. Some suggest to use virt-v2v but the version that can be used in CentOS 7(.1) does not support the -ic flag. See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1138504#c8 (Comment 8) What I understand is that oVirt should solve this or make some kind of image import tool. I found engine-image-uploader but that's only for OVF files. Some other say that you just make a VM in oVirt and copy the original image over de oVirt image. This works but there is no human error correction in it or some other validation. What can I do? Re: [ovirt-users] Vdsm Disk Images - preallocation vs thin provision
Hi ml, oVirt should not prevent you from creating 11 thin provisioned disks. Thin provisioning lets you create disks with minimum initial size and while the VM writes data to them, they will get extended every time needed. file system usually manages the initial size of the file and the extension process. For Block Storage Domains such as iSCSI and FC, it is VDSM which responsible to extend the disk every time it gets to a certain watermark.
