[ovirt-users] Re: Seeking best performance on oVirt cluster
I have experienced the same performance problem in creating new template or creating new stateful image from template. I have traced it to the use of qemu-img convert which is very very slow. Currently a template creation on my setup, takes around 29m for a 45G image when a simple copy over NFS takes 1m26s over a 10G network which is expected since there is roughly as many read as write over the network (4Gbps) Adding --cache writeback to qemu-img improves from 29m to around 8m but according to a prior comment on this mailing list might not work on all platform. [ovirt-users] how to move from hosted-engine to standalone engine
One issue I have with hosted-engine is that when something goes wrong it has a domino effect because hosted-engine cannot communicate with its database. I have been thinking to host ovirt engine separately on a different hypervisor and have all my host undeployed. However for efficiency my networks are separated by their functions. [ovirt-users] cloning a VM or creating a template speed is so so slow
I have been trying to figure out why cloning a VM and creating a template from ovirt is so slow. I am using ovirt 4.3.10 over NFS. My NFS server is running NFS 4 over RAID10 with SSD disks over a 10G network and 9000 MTU Therocially I should be writing a 50GB file in around 1m30s a direct copy from the SPM host server of an image to another image on the same host takes 6m34s a cloning from ovirt takes around 29m So quite a big difference. Therefore I started investigating and found that ovirt launches a qemu-img process with no source and target cache. Therefore thinking that could be the issue, I change the cache mode to writeback and was able to run the exact command in 8m14s. Over 3 times faster. I haven't tried yet other parameters line -o preallocation=metadata but was wondering why no cache was selected and how to change it to use cache writeback command launched by ovirt: /usr/bin/qemu-img convert -p -t none -T none -f qcow2 /rhev/data-center/mnt/nas1.bfit:_home_VMS/8e6bea49-9c62-4e31-a3c9-0be09c2fcdbf/images/21f438fb-0c0e-4bdc-abb3-64a7e033cff6/c256a972-4328-4833-984d-fa8e62f76be8 -O qcow2 -o compat=1.1 /rhev/data-center/mnt/nas1.bfit:_home_VMS/8e6bea49-9c62-4e31-a3c9-0be09c2fcdbf/images/5a90515c-066d-43fb-9313-5c7742f68146/ed6dc60d-1d6f-48b6-aa6e-0e7fb1ad96b9 ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/NNJOA4CV7TMYRJGSTOVMJYTCVI2R3Q6A/

[ovirt-users] Re: websockify + ovirt
I think part of my misunderstanding is that ovirt-websocket-proxy does a few things behind the scene as it is not the source of the initial connection to ovirt. I am going another route. My proxy are servers which get the console.vv file from ovirt when they are alerted someone wants to make a webview to a particular Vm. at that point it requests the console.vv file from ovirt using rest api and then create the websockify process with a random port which they send back to the requesting app via another secure channel. The receiving app then launches a browser tab connecting the web-spice-client to the address of the webproxy and the port. the http connection is encrypted using a letsencrypt certificate and that is working fine. The part I am having difficulties is the connection part between the web proxy and the ovirt host. Ovirt expect it to be encapsulated in TLS/1.2 if I am not mistaken, but can't figure out how to make websockify to use the cafile, ssl-cyphers and the host-subject to do so. I am missing a part which I think should be simple for someone understanding ssl better than I do Thanks ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/FHLRE7GU2GVUX3DEJHB2QGCZB7JMXRVO/

All in all those guys did an amazing work. So I am trying to take it further and have it working with ovirt. My first step was to try to understand how remote-viewer was connecting to ovirt. I was able to find out that out of the console.vv file only host, port, password, tls-port and host-subject and ca. I then tried to understand where in remote-viewer the authentication happened and in what form. So far I have track it down to spice-gtk. I am still looking there. I also tried to understand how ovirt websockify version was working but not knowing for sure that it is indeed working make it challenging. Again I don't quite understand the steps it does to start the proxying. It seems to me that it trap the authentication and do its own but since I don't have a client working I can't really tell. the websockify guys say the authentication should happen on the client but when I look at the websocket-proxy code from ovirt it seems it is happening on the proxy. So what am I looking for is an example of a client (in whatever language) that authenticate against ovirt so that I can test it and adapt it to spice-web-client. Any help would be appreciated. Here are some questions I have: why is there a port and a tls-port? what the purpose of port? When I filter it out of console.vv, remote-viewer is still able to work with ovirt. What's the purpose of host-subject? How is it used? How is it sent to ovirt. Same for password? What the protocol there? ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/D32MRAANPFOWH5LBRGTB7RHVPH746LRQ/

This is currently what I got: CONSOLE is the path to the console.vv file just downloaded. I have tested that logic with remote-viewer. So I know this is working at least. I will. I wish there was more documentation on how all of this works. My current test sniffing the network show that actually the traffic is not on the port as defined in the console file but on the tls-port of that file. so I am a little confused how all of this works. [ovirt-users] Re: websockify + ovirt
Thanks for your response. From it I deduct that the authentication must happen from the client not the proxy. however I am not finding any code in spice-html5 which would confirm this. So my thinking is that the authentication must happen on the websockify side. From the websockify docs I can see some parameters that could help but wonder how to use them with ovirt. --cafile=FILE file of concatenated certificates of authorities trusted for validating clients (only effective with --verify-client). If omitted, system default list of CAs is used. --auth-plugin=CLASS use a Python class, usually one from websockify.auth_plugins, such as BasicHTTPAuth, to determine if a connection is allowed --auth-source=ARG an argument to be passed to the auth plugin on instantiation Obviously I am assuming spice-html5 works with ovirt. Maybe it doesn't. I was never able to make it work except with direct libvirt over spice. ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/W3TBF4XPURKRVI2J3AWUDCTRCTYYHXGZ/

AGPL spice-web-client is a spice html5 library from eyeos with another fork from flexvdi. I have tested them with libvirt (no encryption/authentication) and they really work great. I want to use them with Ovirt since spice-html5 is under-performant. However with ovirt I have to deal with authentication and ssl encryption. Since the OVirt certificate is self signed I cannot really ask users to import it (anyway that didn't work when I tried as it is missing the root certificate from the download link on the OVirt web admin console). So far I am able to get a proxy setup using websockify and provide my own certificate and proxy it back to libvirt. I identified from the console.vv file the minimum fields remote-viewer needs to make a secure connection to OVirt. Now I need my websockyproxy to do the same Any help on getting this working will be appreciated. I haven't found any documentation on how this is working. And looking at all jobs there is no reference back to the VM execept for the description Creating VM DEMO-PCC-4 from Template MASTER-W10-20H2-CDrive in Cluster d1-c2 true false 2021-01-21T12:49:06.700-08:00 2021-01-21T12:48:59.453-08:00 started ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/TGZQLI55EFZOSEBNEU5CCBDZ2EDXMINQ/

Thank you Dominik, I finally got it to work by disabling VLAN ID on the port. I guess the VLAN ID takes precedence to this filter No I was not aware I could mix and match 4.3 and 4.4. I will look into it. Any documents you have in mind I should consult. [ovirt-users] how to add devices to a qemu config.xml of a virtual machine
Hi, I would like to be able to share a local folder with my remote desktop hosted by ovirt. Looking everywhere it seems that what is needed is to have spice-webdavd installed on the guest and have qemu set with this channel org.spice-space.webdav.0 I don't see in the web admin interface any ways to add those channels, but found on the web an addon which could maybe work vdsm-hook-qemucmdline but can't find a package compiled for the latest version and how to install it Also I noticed in the latest version of ovirt 4.3.5 there are 2 flags: Enable SPICE file transfer Enable SPICE clipboard copy and paste But that doesn't seem to change anything Any help appreciated ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/site/privacy-policy/ oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/PSOGJY5Q7BZ5UWQLKN5762E4YVFC6CYJ/

Re: [ovirt-users] Failing ovirt install/F20
Alon I had run setup with jboss-home set to the wildfly location (and it seems to have worked OK). The problem was post-setup. When trying to access the admin portal, I got a 503 (service temporarily unavail.). However, since then I switched to CentOS and all these issues vanished. This being said be warned that there are isues with Ovirt/F20 Thanks again P On 07/07/2014 10:44 PM, Alon Bar-Lev wrote: - Original Message - From: "Pascal Jakobi" To: users@ovirt.org Sent: Friday, July 4, 2014 8:13:47 PM Subject: [ovirt-users] Failing ovirt install/F20 Installing ovirt on F20. Re: [Users] AcquireHostId problem
Ok. What I am doing is just adding a new NFS domain that fails : "Failed to add Storage Domain DataLab2. (User: admin@internal)" And I thought that the "/dev/watchdog0 failed to set timeout" msg was signalling an error. Will rerun test in 5 minutes. Re: [Users] AcquireHostId problem
Nope. Nothing more in logs. My guess is that the timeout problem generates the error. However, in reality if you run "mount", you have the target partitions mounted Therefore, I guess the problem is to understand why "dev/watchdog0 failed to set timeout" Any info needed, just ask 2013/12/21 Federico Simoncelli > - Original Message - > > From: "Pascal Jakobi" > > To: "Federico Simoncelli" , users@ovirt.org > > Sent: Friday, December 20, 2013 11:54:21 PM > > Subject: Re: [Users] AcquireHostId problem > > > > Dec 20 23:43:59 lab2 kernel: [183033.639261] softdog: Software Watchdog > > Timer: 0.08 initialized. soft_noboot=0 soft_margin=60 sec soft_panic=0 > > (nowayout=0) > > Dec 20 23:44:11 lab2 systemd[1]: Starting Watchdog Multiplexing Daemon... > > Dec 20 23:44:11 lab2 wdmd[25072]: wdmd started S0 H1 G179 > > Dec 20 23:44:11 lab2 systemd-wdmd[25066]: Starting wdmd: [ OK ] > > Dec 20 23:44:11 lab2 wdmd[25072]: /dev/watchdog0 failed to set timeout > > Dec 20 23:44:11 lab2 wdmd[25072]: /dev/watchdog0 disarmed > > Dec 20 23:44:11 lab2 wdmd[25072]: /dev/watchdog1 armed with fire_timeout > 60 > > Dec 20 23:44:11 lab2 systemd[1]: Started Watchdog Multiplexing Daemon. > > Dec 20 23:45:33 lab2 rpc.mountd[2819]: authenticated mount request from > > 192.168.1.41:994 for /home/vdsm/data (/home/vdsm/data) > > Dec 20 23:45:39 lab2 rpc.mountd[2819]: authenticated mount request from > > 192.168.1.41:954 for /home/vdsm/data (/home/vdsm/data) > > > > Seems to work a bit. > > However I still get "unable to attach storage" when creating a domain > > It is probably a different error now. Fixed. Re: [Users] ovirtmgmt not installed
I have done this and it solves the issue. However, the next issue I found was that the host was not able to join a 3.3 cluster (i.e. the "default" cluster). At this point, I went back to F18. 2013/12/4 Antoni Segura Puimedon > > > - Original Message - > > From: "Assaf Muller" > > To: "Pascal Jakobi" > > Cc: users@ovirt.org > > Sent: Wednesday, December 4, 2013 9:09:18 AM > > Subject: Re: [Users] ovirtmgmt not installed > > > > I personally have a F19 host working against 3.3 engine. Re: [Users] ovirtmgmt not installed
At the end, I could not make an F19 Fedora host work against a 3.3 engine. I suggest someone from the eng team has a look at it. some stuff just does not work there. Therefore, I downgraded the fedora host to F18. On the engine side, I got the following error message : Host lab2 is compatible with versions (3.0,3.1,3.2) and cannot join Cluster Default which is set to version 3.3. Don't know what is to be set Anyway, I created a 3.2 cluster and installed the host into it. Seems to work (the host is up). Thanks again for support. As a matter of fact, when I installed F19, it created an eno1 device, aliased to em1. Don't know why, yet. Even adding a "GATEWAY" clause in /etc/sysconfig/network does not seem to change the problem Will check how to change the device name. 2013/12/1 Moti Asayag > Hi Pascal, > > - Original Message - > > From: "Pascal Jakobi" > > To: "Mike Kolesnik" > > Cc: users@ovirt.org, masa...@redhat.com > > Sent: Sunday, December 1, 2013 10:58:40 AM > > Subject: Re: ovirtmgmt not installed > > > > Mike > > > > Here you go. [Users] Fedora host deployment fails
Both ovirt engine & host run F19. oVirt Engine Version: 3.3.1-2.fc19 I get an "unexpected connection termination" when trying to install host. Going further I have more than my doubts about what's executed on the fedora host as described in the logs : umask 0077; MYTMP="$(mktemp -t ovirt-XX)"; trap "chmod -R u+rwX \"${MYTMP}\" > /dev/null 2>&1; rm -fr \"${MYTMP}\" > /dev/null 2>&1" 0; rm -fr "${MYTMP}" && mkdir "${MYTMP}" && tar --warning=no-timestamp -C "${MYTMP}" -x && "${MYTMP}"/setup DIALOG/dialect=str:machine DIALOG/customization=bool:True Is this really correct ? Has an scp been ran before to transfer the tar file ? Re: [Users] Fedora host install fails
Done. However, next issue was that the default DC is set to 3.3 compatibility version when the fedora host seems to be installed with 3.2 -> incompatible versions Of course, I can create a 3.2 DC (in which case I get "libvirt: Network Driver error : Network not found: no network with matching name 'vdsm-ovirtmgmt'" at host deply stage). However, the fact that I cannot run 3.?3 seems strage. Can u pls advise ?
