If you agree, I propose to have it removed.

Re: [xwiki-users] [xwiki-devs] [Proposal] Documentation Standard Document Call to Vote

2010-06-10 Thread Denis Gervalle
On Mon, Jun 7, 2010 at 11:55, Sorin Burjan sorin.bur...@xwiki.com wrote:

 Hello.

 Silvia and me have created a DRAFT for XWiki.org Documentation Standard
 found at :
 http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Drafts/XWikiOrgDocumentationStandard

Even if I found your procedures smart and very conscientious, I am a little
bit afraid by them, and just wonder if these will not finally slow down the
documentation, since only very minor change can be done quickly. As everyone
knows, documentation is never what we d'like to do, and if you increase the
burden, it will probably not encourage improvements. My idea is that there
should be an additional intermediate editing situation, where you improve or
add a section in the current documentation directly without going to a draft
and review cycle (almost like when you fix a issue without vote when you
know what to do). You could also add precision when you read the
documentation and have failed to catch it, to avoid the next one to also
have the same trouble.
I have the impression that we loose the wiki nature of the collaboration by
using these procedures

... and this could be a larger reflexion on the feature of XWiki since such
situation is not uncommon. I have already some idea about that, but I had
never have time enough to write them in details. Briefly, IMO we should
offer a feature that allows a document to have its current version not the
latest one, until the author of the latest version confirm his desire to
publish their changes. As you said, we never want to see unbacked bread, and
this is why, in some situation, direct publication is not appropriate. I
will not say more here since this is clearly another thread

 In order to move towards the final version, we need your input on 2 issues.
 - For which project version we create maintain documentation
 - Which skins we are going to support in the documentation (latest/all)

 Although, these issues were discussed in December 2009, no final result
 came out of them.

 http://markmail.org/message/ou7hgdiiwgayghku#query:+page:1+mid:ou7hgdiiwgayghku+state:results

 1. the project version (XE version for ex) for which the documentation
 is created/updated/maintained.
We have several choices:
 a) We make the documentation only for the latest version.
 b) We make the documentation only for the latest version, and we
 export the pages at release time and make it available as a zipped HTML
 export so that people using the older version can refer to them.
 c) We make the doc work the last 2 releases. That would be 2.3 and
 2.4.

 Note: If option b) is chosen then we need to add a step to the
 release process. (export for every release)

For me b) is not an option, documentation is not written / updated on
release day, but before it, when the features are released in the Mx and RCx
versions. Since we start Mx of next release before release of previous one,
we cannot managed such versioning easily.
For now, to stay reasonable, I think we should do as we do in source code,
and mention the version were a feature is introduced or changed when
confusion should be avoided.

 2. The skin used for documenting steps. This also includes the screenshots.
Again we have several choices:
 a) Document only for the latest default skin.
 b) Document for all supported skins. Right now that would be Toucan
 + Colibri (not sure about Albatross, I don't think we've officially said
 it wasn't supported).

 Note: If option b) is chosen, this would mean 2 screenshots for the
 same feature (one for each skin)

I doubt we could do b), reaching a correct a) is already an issue when the
default skin is upgraded.

Denis

 The vote content was mostly taken from the markmail link above.

 If you have any other suggestions regarding this draft, please reply and
 state your opinion. We need as much feedback as possible in order to
 create a solid documentation standard.

Hi,

I have some html-pages as attachment of a wiki-page.
The html-page are using UTF-8 encoding.
However, while the xwiki page is delivered as utf-8, attached html-pages will

Is there a way to configure the attachment encoding?

[xwiki-users] Tables - Copying and pasting from excel into Xwiki

2010-06-10 Thread Ziggy
Tables - Copying and pasting from excel into Xwiki

I tried to copy a table in excel and paste it(from the clipboard) into a
document in Xwiki which was open in WYSIWYG mode. The table looked fine but
when i looked at the document in WIKI mode it came up in the following
format

(% border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 style=border-collapse:
collapse; width: 144pt; width=192 %)
(% height=17 style=height: 12.75pt; %)|(% height=17 style=height:
12.75pt; width: 48pt; width=64 %)Value1|(% style=width: 48pt;
width=64 %)Value2|(% style=width: 48pt; width=64 %)Value3
(% height=17 style=height: 12.75pt; %)|(% height=17 style=height:
12.75pt; %)NextValue2|NextValue3|NextValue4

I thought the table would come up looking like this (In Wiki mode)

|value1|Value2|Value3
|nextValue1|nextValue2|nextValue3

What exactly is that format that appeared when i copied and pasted the table
from excel? it looks like cascading style sheet but not quite exactly
cascading style sheet.
How can i understand it?

And also sometimes i see reference to definitions of styles within the table
(i.e. class=xl25, class=x122) etc. Where would this classes be defined
and if i upgrade the xwiki installation would these style

(% height=17 style=height: 12.75pt; %)|(% class=xl22 height=17
str=- 2.8.17 [Ref #15] Check for message displayed.  style=height:
12.75pt; %)- 2.8.17 [Ref #15] Check for message displayed. |(% class=xl22

This encoding is set by the container. You could either change the
default encoding of Tomcat, if that's what you're using, configure
something in the Apache httpd frontend, if you're using one, or change
in xwiki's web.xml the mimetype of html files to also include the
charset, as in:

   mime-mapping
 extensionhtml/extension
 mime-typetext/html; charset=UTF-8/mime-type
   /mime-mapping

 That's because when you copy paste from excel, excel give us a html
 table with many styling parameters in it (all you find between, (% and

 If you want a clean copy/past you can use Import - Office
 Content (Copy/Paste) and make sure Filter Styles is enabled.

 Basically (%param=value%) syntax is a way to attach custom parameter

 |cell1|cell1

 produce more or less

 tabletrtd/tdtd/td/tr/table

 but you can also have some custom table parameters

 (% class=myclass %)
 |cell1|cell1

 produce

 table class=myclasstrcell1td/tdtdcell2/td/tr/table

 (% class=myclass %)|cell1|cell1

 produce

 tabletr class=myclasstdcell1/tdtdcell2/td/tr/table

 |(% class=myclass %)cell1|cell1

 produce

 tabletrtdclass=myclasscell1/tdtdcell2/td/tr/table

  * {{test /}}

  The page also has a WikiMacro object defined:

  {{include document=Sandbox.TestService context=current /}}{{groovy}}
  import com.test.TestService
  out.println( TestService.testMe() )
  {{/groovy}}

  Sandbox.TestService has the following content in it:

  {{include document=Sandbox.TestService2 context=current /}}{{groovy
  output=false}}
  package com.test
  class TestService {
   def static testMe() {
     return TEST
   }
  }
  {{/groovy}}

 When you do that you write a paragraph containing two macros (include
 and groovy).

 You should write

 {{include document=Sandbox.TestService2 context=current /}}

 {{groovy output=false}}
 package com.test
 class TestService {
  def static testMe() {
   return TEST
  }
 }
 {{/groovy}}

 instead.

  Now, when I render the TestMacro page, I get a few extra p inserted
 before
  the text TEST:

  ullip/pTEST/li/ul

  This makes the page look weird, since the bullet point text is on a new
 line
  now..  I've also had to put the {{include}} and the {{groovy}} lines
  together in the pages above; otherwise, there would just be more p's
  inserted..  Is there any way around this?  Appreciate any tips!

[xwiki-users] [Vote][Proposal] Rights Management

2010-06-10 Thread Ecaterina Valica
Hi,

For a while we've been discussing how the new Rights Management UI is gonna
look like. After 5 prototype versions, we may have reached a conclusion.

Please take a look at:
*Prototype*
http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Improvements/Rights51Space
*Explanations*
http://incubator.myxwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Improvements/RightsProposal

Please cast your vote if this is gonna be the final Rights representation,
so that we may start the implementation.

Any feedback is welcomed and we can still added improvements to this
version.

The current version is a collaborative work done by me, Denis Gervalle,
Raluca Stavro, Alex Busenius, Roman Muntyanu and many others (Guillaume,

Re: [xwiki-users] Tables - Copying and pasting from excel into Xwiki

 On Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 12:43, Ziggyzigg...@gmail.com  wrote:
 Tables - Copying and pasting from excel into Xwiki

 I tried to copy a table in excel and paste it(from the clipboard) into a
 document in Xwiki which was open in WYSIWYG mode. The table looked fine but
 when i looked at the document in WIKI mode it came up in the following
 format

 (% border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 style=border-collapse:
 collapse; width: 144pt; width=192 %)
 (% height=17 style=height: 12.75pt; %)|(% height=17 style=height:
 12.75pt; width: 48pt; width=64 %)Value1|(% style=width: 48pt;
 width=64 %)Value2|(% style=width: 48pt; width=64 %)Value3
 (% height=17 style=height: 12.75pt; %)|(% height=17 style=height:
 12.75pt; %)NextValue2|NextValue3|NextValue4

 I thought the table would come up looking like this (In Wiki mode)

 |value1|Value2|Value3
 |nextValue1|nextValue2|nextValue3

 That's because when you copy paste from excel, excel give us a html
 table with many styling parameters in it (all you find between, (% and
 %)).

 If you want a clean copy/past you can use Import - Office
 Content (Copy/Paste) and make sure Filter Styles is enabled.

Indeed, as Thomas said, it is recommended to use this dialog to paste
office content rather than passing it directly in the WYSIWYG text area.

Hope this helps,
Marius

 What exactly is that format that appeared when i copied and pasted the table
 from excel? it looks like cascading style sheet but not quite exactly
 cascading style sheet.
 How can i understand it?

 Basically (%param=value%) syntax is a way to attach custom parameter
 to a syntax element. Here is a simple example:

 |cell1|cell1

 produce more or less

 tabletrtd/tdtd/td/tr/table

 but you can also have some custom table parameters

 (% class=myclass %)
 |cell1|cell1

 produce

 table class=myclasstrcell1td/tdtdcell2/td/tr/table

 (% class=myclass %)|cell1|cell1

 produce

 tabletr class=myclasstdcell1/tdtdcell2/td/tr/table

 |(% class=myclass %)cell1|cell1

 produce

 tabletrtdclass=myclasscell1/tdtdcell2/td/tr/table

 And also sometimes i see reference to definitions of styles within the table
 (i.e. class=xl25, class=x122) etc. Where would this classes be defined
 and if i upgrade the xwiki installation would these style

 (% height=17 style=height: 12.75pt; %)|(% class=xl22 height=17
 str=- 2.8.17 [Ref #15] Check for message displayed.  style=height:
 12.75pt; %)- 2.8.17 [Ref #15] Check for message displayed. |(% class=xl22
 style=border-left: medium none; %)
 (% height=17 style=height: 12.75pt; %)|(% class=xl22 height=17
 str=- 2.8.17 [Ref #16] Check for message reversion.  style=height:
 12.75pt; %)- 2.8.17 [Ref #16] Check for message reversion. |(% class=xl22
 style=border-left: medium none; %)

2010-06-10 Thread coldserenity

+1 Looks very nice! Now it's really easy to see where each particular
permission/denial comes from (feature I was missing in the beginning of my
experience with XWiki) and manage it.

I do have a question though.
As I understood from the proposal description, by default rights table lists
all groups available in the system.
And if rights should be overridden for specific user, it's being added with
add user lookup. Correct?

The question is: was there an aim to allow displaying ALL of the rights that
are applied to ALL users/groups at current moment. And in particular what if
user is not assigned to any group, where do the rights come from? is this
screen meant to display such information?

It took me some time and thinking to figure out how the UI works and what the
yellow highlight means. I'm not sure we reduced complexity, which was one of
the objective of the UI redesign. If this is basic, I imagine the advanced UI

Once you understand it, the UI makes sense. The visual clue that specifiying a

Note: I have not followed the thread about this UI redesign (my look at it is

No, adding user or group is the same process. The interface only display

Yes it does, and I suppose that Unregistered Users (XWiki.XWikiGuest) and
Registered Users (XWiki.XWikiAllGroup) should always be shown since it cover
the whole list of user at all time.

The advanced UI is there already, have you miss it ? This is what you could
see when you click the advanced button on a row. The advanced button at the
top is to expand all rows at once.

I am a little bit disappointed by your experience. From all the previous
proposal, this one as been chosen for their ease of use, and its similarity
with the current interface, which will easy transition. Obviously, between
this prototype and the final result, you should have a better feeling since
all interaction will be in.

Regarding the yellow background, I think that their should be two different

what has been changed without being saved.

Maybe you should have a look at previous proposal, but I fear you will found
them even more complex.
The main problem is that XWiki rights are complex by nature. We should
rethink that for 3.0.

[xwiki-users] Disappearing attachments

Hello!

I have set up XWiki on my server. J2EE 5, GlassFish 2, MySQL. Moving

I am testing this wiki and amongs other problems encountered the
following one.

There is a photoalbum application instance. Here is my test album:

http://metrolace.ru/bin/Photos/HubPicknick0410

The problem is that attachments are disappearing after some time. Or,
speaking preciselly, their size becomes 0 when one visits a page with
particular photo.

This is files viewer:

http://metrolace.ru/bin/Photos/HubPicknick0410?viewer=attachments

This is a snapshoted version: http://www.peeep.us/f01aa5ce

Some files have version 1.2 just because I have reuploaded them when
their size became 0 for the first time.

Some files are zero-sized. Others left intact. However, visiting
particular photo by clicking it triggers disappearing. One can click any
photo, and then visit files viewer and notice that exactly this file
has changed its size to 0.

 No, the centos5.5 runs with x11 and gnome.

Then, this is strange. The stack trace says that a class was not found,
which means that you don't have some jars in the classpath. How did you
install XWiki? Did you use the standalone .war? Then, you need to add
some more jars. I'd suggest that you try not from the standalone war,
but the enterprise war (
http://maven.xwiki.org/releases/com/xpn/xwiki/products/xwiki-enterprise-web/2.3.1/xwiki-enterprise-web-2.3.1.war

). Does this suggestion help?

 Hello xwiki users (   friends),

 At the xwiki I enabled stats at xwiki.cfg but calling the stat modules

 fails for all graph stuff.

 You may review http://m2m.fm:8080/xwiki/bin/view/Stats/ (version
 2.3.1)

 And the result for monthly/yearly/all-time stats is as follows.

 Already seen?

 One thing comes to mind: is this a linux server with no X11? Try making
 the jvm headless.

Re: [xwiki-users] [l10n] issue posting translation to XWiki site

2010-06-10 Thread coldserenity

Thanks for the hint, should have asked before doing something :)

I can only hope that it would be more or less easy to integrate what's been
translated thus far into existing bundle.

Started learning l10n tool :)

Re: [xwiki-users] Live Table Not showing items in _action column for space admin user

2010-06-10 Thread James Cuzella
I made a test page on playground.xwiki.org to verify if this behavior
still shows up in the colibri.

Here's the page (at least until the playground gets wiped again):
http://playground.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Sandbox/SandboxIndex

Login with user: LivetableBug
password: 123456

Note that the Actions column displays but it contains nothing. Is
this expected behavior?

Perhaps the access level test in the code only checks for hasAdmin and
nothing else?

Cheers,

[xwiki-users] Having the edit right, the user has the right to change access rights

2010-06-10 Thread Erica Usui
When a user has editing right, and when enabling the Advanced user type,
this user can change the access rights of the page. Was it meant to be like
that?

I recall that this option (in previous versions) was only available for
users who have admin rights, not for anyone.
Version 2.2.1.27354 and the one that is on playground, 2.3.28624, present

 Tables - Copying and pasting from excel into Xwiki

 I tried to copy a table in excel and paste it(from the clipboard) into a
 document in Xwiki which was open in WYSIWYG mode. The table looked fine but
 when i looked at the document in WIKI mode it came up in the following
 format

 (% border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 style=border-collapse:
 collapse; width: 144pt; width=192 %)
 (% height=17 style=height: 12.75pt; %)|(% height=17 style=height:
 12.75pt; width: 48pt; width=64 %)Value1|(% style=width: 48pt;
 width=64 %)Value2|(% style=width: 48pt; width=64 %)Value3

We really need a paste icon in the toolbar without going through the Import
menu which isn't intuitive at all

Thanks
-Vincent

 Hope this helps,
 Marius

 What exactly is that format that appeared when i copied and pasted the table
 from excel? it looks like cascading style sheet but not quite exactly
 cascading style sheet.
 How can i understand it?

 Basically (%param=value%) syntax is a way to attach custom parameter
 to a syntax element. Here is a simple example:

 |cell1|cell1

 produce more or less

 tabletrtd/tdtd/td/tr/table

 but you can also have some custom table parameters

 (% class=myclass %)
 |cell1|cell1

 produce

 table class=myclasstrcell1td/tdtdcell2/td/tr/table

 (% class=myclass %)|cell1|cell1

 produce

 tabletr class=myclasstdcell1/tdtdcell2/td/tr/table

 |(% class=myclass %)cell1|cell1

 produce

 tabletrtdclass=myclasscell1/tdtdcell2/td/tr/table

 And also sometimes i see reference to definitions of styles within the table
 (i.e. class=xl25, class=x122) etc. Where would this classes be defined
 and if i upgrade the xwiki installation would these style

 (% height=17 style=height: 12.75pt; %)|(% class=xl22 height=17
 str=- 2.8.17 [Ref #15] Check for message displayed.  style=height:
 12.75pt; %)- 2.8.17 [Ref #15] Check for message displayed. |(% class=xl22
 style=border-left: medium none; %)
 (% height=17 style=height: 12.75pt; %)|(% class=xl22 height=17
 str=- 2.8.17 [Ref #16] Check for message reversion.  style=height:
 12.75pt; %)- 2.8.17 [Ref #16] Check for message reversion. |(% class=xl22
 style=border-left: medium none; %)

Re: [xwiki-users] Having the edit right, the user has the right to change access rights

2010-06-10 Thread Caleb James DeLisle
Yes. Permissions are just objects in the page, if you are allowed to modify the
page then you are allowed to modify it's objects.

This makes logical sense because the worst you can do by modifying the
permissions
on a page is to allow everyone to modify the page which you could have done
anyway
by giving them your password.
Nobody has the power to deny adminstrators access to the page, the admin
permission
on the space or wiki level trumps denial of permissions on the page level.
