Re: Repo asking for authentication

Hey Gemma,

We do have a bug here, but if it only started this morning I don't

Could you try to remove the entry from the Keychain and entering the
password in Versions once more?

Let me know if it works...

Hey Coolfactor,

We hear you and never say never. But you conveniently leave out the
license argument, which in my opinion is the biggest hurdle... They
will probably have great reasons to go GPL, but it's really not that
interesting to develop a commercial app around :-(

Hey Karl,

I see your point, but I think your situation is pretty specific. A lot
of people have bookmarks in there they only need to use once in a

repositories?

fix this by hand (using the terminal chmod command or get info command

Re: Subversion 1.6

2009-03-29 Thread Koen Bok

Hey TheDO,

Generally the best way to build apps around other apps is to include
their functionality with programming libraries they provide. That way
you can access all the functions right in the programming language
which has the least overhead and is usually less error prone.

Another way to build an app like Versions would be communicating with
the command line program. That means that you have to "manually" send
text commands to the app and parse it's output (this is called
piping). This way it would be possible to replace the binary that
Versions communicates with, but as we would really rely on the input
and output it will break easily. Plus, we could never get the app as
fast as it is now.

Hope that explains it :-)

Hey MusterX,

Versions should totally unicode-safe, so you shouldn't have issues

trouble is to use it in combination with exotic file systems.

Versions 1.0.4 Beta (Subversion 1.6 support)

2009-04-27 Thread Koen Bok

Versions 1.0.4 Beta

Hey everyone,

A lot of people have been eager to get their hands on Versions with
the Subversion libraries 1.6. We've been building and testing this
over the last month, but we discovered some issues that kept us back
from releasing it to the public. The biggest one is the leaking of
processes when using Subversion over SSH (1). So we decided to do a
public beta in the group, both to let the people who know what they
are doing get their hands on it, and to determine whether it's ready
for the big public.

If you run into any problems, particularly when you use this build
with the Subversion 1.6 libraries, please post about it here and we
can figure out any remaining issues together.

Thanks!

Koen Bok - madebysofa.com

Get it here: http://cdn.versionsapp.com/Versions_1.0.4b_63.zip

(1) http://lists.apple.com/archives/Xcode-users/2009/Mar/msg00443.html

Note: Enabling Subversion 1.6 will upgrade your working copies. To
downgrade again you will have to make a new checkout.

Release Notes:

Versions 1.0.4b (Build 62) - April 27 2009

- Added Subversion 1.6 support (version 1.6.1)
- Upgraded Subversion 1.5 libraries to version 1.5.6
- Added support for authentication using SASL
- Fixed diffing with BBEdit
- Sorting files by name in the Browse view now works like it does in
the Finder
- Bookmarks are now also sorted correctly when accented characters are
present in their names
- Fixed a crash that occurred when the subversion config file contains
errors that prevent it from being parsed correctly
- Added an option to start Versions in “Verbose mode” to log all
errors to the Console
- An alert is now shown when there are problems retrieving or saving
passwords from the Keychain. When it's not convenient to show an
alert, the error is logged to the Console instead
- Fixed an issue that was causing crash report windows to show up when
Versions had not crashed
- Added a “Quit Now” button to the “Waiting for transactions to
finish...” window
- Fixed bugs in registration that occured in very specific scenarios
- Updated the Help documentation with an FAQ page
- Made the column for revision numbers wider
- Various other small improvements

Do you happen to have a lot of really large repo's (like apache) and

It could also be that FSEvent for a certain repository keep being

Re: non-blocking repository interaction?

2009-06-29 Thread Koen Bok

Hey Philip,

Due to the way subversion works, it would be very hard to allow
concurrent access to the same working copy. But you can easily keep on
working on other working copies by opening a new window.

Kindest regards,

Hey Simon,

In general preferences, you can disable show badges with working copy
change. This will stop Versions from polling your repositories for
changes on the server.

Re: Feature request: Git support

2009-07-26 Thread Koen Bok

Hey Quinn and Georga,

I would argue the economical thing is not too important once git gains
some critical mass. It's still small compared to svn, and in a way the
compete with Mercurial which is pretty populair too.

A bigger problem would be the licensing as we can't include the Git
source without open sourcing our own app due to the GPL license. There
are ways around this (wrapping command line) but this generally
results in a lesser quality app.

Hey Quinn,

Ha, that's interesting. We would like to, but the NDA prohibits
talking about some of it. Let's say it was around "viewing things

The core was indeed running fine, but we tweaked some included library

Re: Merging Branches Into Trunk

2009-08-08 Thread Koen Bok

Hey Quinn, Shan and Ray,

For what it's worth, I can officially confirm we're working on it.
It's a tough one, but we feel we're on the right way to tackle it.
Regarding the timeframe I can't promise anything. I can however give
some hints on why this is taking some time.

- Subversions 1.6 merging became a lot better, so we had to wait for
that. It was actually pretty tough to do 1.5>1.6 but we have it now.
- Subversions merging options are so complex that we need to make
choices to keep the ui usable, involving lots of discussions and
research.
- Merging as a problem is more then subversion alone. You also have to
deal with content/conflicts in a sensible way if you want to do it
right.

And Quinn, if your job gets less dreamy, shoot me an email ;-)

Re: Problem with umlaut characters like ö,ä,ü

Just for the record, we know about the patch but we're reluctant to
put it in as it seems to do more harm then it solves at this point. A
in-depth description of the issue can be found here:

So we're waiting for either a good solution, some time to look into it
ourselves or tons of people trying it out by themselves and having no
problems at all :-)
