My opinion is that at Sowbug and Conclave, you are providing an educational

available. If I can sell flies, why can't I sell material and hooks? It's just

We have a postal dispute/strike here with 100.000.000 undelivered letters
back loged.
Unless Everyone is desperate to get the flies back I was intending to wait

Hi Guys

We have a postal dispute/strike here with 100.000.000 undelivered letters

Unless Everyone is desperate to get the flies back I was intending to wait

[VFB] Re: Out bid.....

2009-10-31 Thread Mark Romero

First of all, nobody put a gun to a vendors head and said, "go do this show, or
else."

Second of all.whatever a little-ole'-fly-tyer might have for sale is no
threat to a vendor...specially since all i've ever seen a tyer sell is
almost always a very specialized product of some kind. You take Marc Petijean
(Magic Tool/best CDC in the world/a very specialized vise), for example.he
comes all the way from Switserland to Somerset twice each yearand pays for
a booth.but he's tying constantly.so is he a tyer or a vendor?
Obviously he's both.but i highly doubt he'd have any problem whatsoever
with the tyer right next to him, (his booth is actually IN tyers row), who may
be selling antigue vises at his table or any other thing, and who did not pay
for a booth.i've NEVER heard a vendor bitch bout a tyer "selling" at
his table. EVER.wether it was flies, hooks, books, materials or anything
else. If anyone understands the expenses involved for tyers, it's vendors.
Hell, i've sold flies TO vendors. It aint no biggie Jeff.

Jeff, at many shows.specially on the east coastmany tyers DO sell

My opinion is that at Sowbug and Conclave, you are providing an educational

Jeff, you've never been to the shows in the east.there, you might have
a half dozen of the BEST Atlantic Salmon fly tyers on the planet, all seated in
a row or real close togetherand trust me...even though they be
takin' all dang day to do one fly.there's a dang good reason they
don't just give 'em away. Once those puppies go in a frame, they can sell them
for upwards of $400 each.and they DO. Next time you come over.you'll
have to make some time to come UPstairs. i'll show you a bunch of 'em.

[VFB] Re: Out bid.....

2009-10-31 Thread Mark Romero

i've never heard of any rule bout not sellin' your flies at the
Sowbug..i've sold flies there.

we've done the FFF Internationl every year since 2002 and that's one place they
don't want you to sell your flies..but most of us who have a buyer for
something at that show.just do business up in our room of the
hotelor out in the parking lot.or in the hotel
lobby..anywhere but on the showroom floor..

we've also done the Southern, Southeast, Great Lakes, Florida, Gulf Coast,
Oregon, Washington, and Notheast, FFF Council Conclaves and have never been
asked not to sellat the East Idaho Fly Tying/Fly Fishing Expo they
just give you a tax form to fill out, and you have to charge tax and give it to
the organizers of the show if you sell..and they get it to the
statei guess.

it's also no problem at all the east coast shows.you gotta be able
to sell, in order to try and defray some of your expenses...man it cost
a small fortune to do shows all over hell and back...one reason we
started cuttin' back this year.sorta, lol...and will continue to do so
as time goes by.more and more each year...cept for next
year...kinna, lmao...

Not up to me to decide (if I didn't want a few hours extra by the computer

honest with the dorsal fin. LOL

I took it night fishing (since I'm awake during daylight). The camera man
probably dreamt we were fishing during daylight. Bad communication. Not my
fault. It doesn't really matter to me. The picture is his... but the catch
was mine. ;o)
