Over the past thirty or so years there has only been one instance that I know of where they had to kill a bear, it was a black bear that had become conditioned to camps and food. Neville will most likely have more accurate details about the clubs history of fishing on the Dean. In Canada it is illegal to carry a pistol. You need special permits and training to be able to purchase one and can only use them for target practice at and shooting competitions at a regulated shooting range . Also the regulations about fire arm transportation is very strict, which makes extremely difficult to carry a fire arm of any description except for hunting. My point is there are many serious hazards in life that we face every day, whether at home ,work or on the river and do not give them a second thought. Regards Mel - Original

Nev: I jumped right into the conversation and brought up a touchy subject. I have always read your responses and believe you to be well-spoken and forth right. Here in the U.S. we may have more rights battles to fight. I don't think that the subject will go away. I hope I always have the right to defend my life and property. Two weeks ago a man shot and killed a burglar ( at his back door in the middle of the night ) in the Salt Lake City area. No charges will be filed. Message sent? Lesson learned? We shall see. Meanwhile, I will continue to carry. I can only assume that this is an important issue, and those in Canada who feel this way are preparing to vote the gun-banners out of office.
