Re: [videoblogging] Canon 5D Mark II

2008-12-09 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I saw the movie by Vincent Laforêt
http://www.vincentlaforet.com/
I think i'll buy it soon because it will be a good tool for art
vlogging.

I was talking recently with Robert Croma about this great tool

The only problem in Europe is the 30frames/seconds

Please keep me in touch on my address mail if you buy it before me

I write in English not well but I have received some of you in
France (Jay, Ryane, Paul, Tina ...). We also created the VlogEurope
here with a lot of meetings (Jeffrey, Jan, Marc, Kristian ...). You
are all important to create this network. And of course there are also
on all platforms 2.0 (Thanks Phil, Mike, Sandy). This list is the most
beautiful thing encountered on the Internet for me.
Sorry for my bad english

Re: [videoblogging] Pay me fuckface

2007-11-21 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I find his article interesting but he wasn't wrong before. The
content game isn't over. It won't be until we run out of humans. Sure
there are people creating free content but that will only go so far.
People thirst for mo' better content and those who know how to
deliver more will soon have all the tools in place so that they can
create and get paid for it. But that will change and change again.

People will pay for content but there will be new models for it.
Content, the way we create it and sell it will always change. There
will always be new models and there will always be kids who get upset
because "Things" don't seem right or fair.

When I was a kid TV was Free and so was water but now I pay over $100
per month for cable TV and maybe about the same for water (if I add
up all those bottles that I buy while I'm out roaming the streets of
Pasadena.) I grew up in Florida and fireworks were illegal there but
that didn't stop my neighbor Bruce from buying firecrackers in South
Carolina or Tennessee one Summer and selling me a package for a
dollar. Now I was an enterprising young kid and I bought a few packs
from Bruce and I waited until he had sold out and all the kids in the
neighborhood had blown their fireworks. I then separated the packs I
had bought from Bruce and started selling single firecrackers for a
dollar a piece. When Bruce found out that I was selling my one dollar
packs for $20 he was furious. He started crying and told me that I
could sell my firecrackers for a dollar a stick. He said I was wrong
and I had to stop. I sad no way. Then he went and told all the
parents that I was selling illegal fireworks for too much money. He
changed the rules on me. So when the parents came and asked me where
I got the fireworks I told them I bought them from Bruce and that I
was just selling what he had sold to me. The rules changed again and
Bruce didn't think it was fair.

Advertising is just one revenue stream. Another is selling your own
products and the two combined together can be pretty powerful. Look
at Disney Channel and how it is used to launch new brands and
monetize old ones.

You will also see new forms of encryption just take a look at all the
3-D movies coming out. Now why all of a sudden after 50 years of 3-D
movies that went no where would the big studios start making 3-D movies?

By the way, the next Summer some of those parents in my neighborhood
took trips to Tennessee and their kids were selling firecrackers to
Bruce that year. He didn't think it was fair.

Keep doing what you love to do and if it has value, people will pay
for it.

It's funny.

I was just saying to myself the other day how well this group has
been getting along and how we have really been sharing ideas.

Now it's back to this tit for tat stuff.

Oh well, conflict does build interest and this public display of
venom is entertaining.

I just hope it does some good for the industry. In the past these
public feuds have derailed people from concentrating on their
creative endeavors and it's just waisted energy.

Speaking of "Feuds" and people from this group.

NewTeeVee is going to have a Live Family Feud style gameshow tomorrow
night with a few people you may have heard of.

I've lost MANY Lacie drives and when I walked up to the VP of
Marketing for Lacie at Macworld and told him his answer was, "It's

I then walked over to the G-Tech booth and I have been very happy

I have 25 G-Tech drives. The other day I thought one of them had gone

with several Late Night TV shows not in production Movies Studios are
going to have a tough time promoting their Holiday releases to late
night viewers.

I met one of the writers at Digital Hollywood and I think she said
they were spending around $350,000 per episode.

I also heard from Shelly Palmer http://www.shellypalmermedia.com/

What is their business model?

If we donate, how are they going to use the money to not just pay

Re: [videoblogging] Has anyone worked with Bret Branon?

2007-07-30 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hey Eddie,

To my knowledge no content producers are making "loads of cash" in
mobile. I get many of these deals offered to me everyday and when I
ask how much their best content producer has made and who they are
and if I can speak with them things get a little squirrelly.

Unless they can give you a guarantee or let you talk with one of
their content producers that is making "loads of cash" I would pass
especially if your content is evergreen and will keep until a real
deal comes along.

Jeremy’s comments should be taken with suspicion.

I won't be in LA this week but you should hook up with some other
Videobloggers on this list when you are in LA.

I would say that you don't keep up.

If you don't want people to steal you car don't leave the keys in it
and if you don't want people to steal your video don't put it on the
Internet.

Or, produce video that you want people to steal and put it on the
Internet. If they steal it and show it to more people it then helps
you and you can let them make their money how ever they can by doing
that for you.

Can we give this a rest for a week or two and see what happens?

This group does some very cool things and discovers news worthy
information all the time and this has the two side talking.

It sounds like something is going to happen and that this will come
to a settlement but I don't think that will happen untill after the
4th of July so can we pause for a little while, bring it back up
later if we need to and move on to some fun stuff like What iPhone
line is Steve Garfield standing in? or Why is Ask a Ninja going to
Israel ?

Re: [videoblogging] Re: How much money to videoblog full-time?

2007-06-19 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If I was in my early twenties and could do all the things I do now
plus edit and do HTML I could live off of what I make with French
Maid TV but I'm not and I don't so I'm still producing for cable TV
networks.

That said, if I can land more sponsorships on a regular basis I will
be doing French Maid TV full time. And if I can get the French Maids
working for me full time I will then launch new story based online
shows. But until I get the "spectacle" working I'm not going to
venture into "story" without funding from another source.

Fortunately my agents at UTA are working hard to make all this happen.

Now if I just don't screw it up everything should be fine.

You know every time I say or write, "My agents" I get a really stupid
smile on my face.

Depends on where I lived.

If I lived in Florida, Texas or Arkansas in my own double wide
trailer with high speed internet connection. Maybe $60K - $90K

In New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London or Hawaii with my own
Digital Video Studio - maybe $175K - $250K

Re: [videoblogging] Rev Share

2007-06-17 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
It's the old, "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a
Tootsie Pop"

I'm still not sure about the math at Revver it seems to vary but I am
getting paid.

What I've found on Revver is that shorter videos make more money
because more people tend to watch to the end and click on the ad.
Take for example our video at Revver titled "Free Downloads" http://
one.revver.com/watch/182008/flv it's a promo that has been viewed
297468 times. It has had 213406 completed views, 27362 ad clicks and
has made $4389.83.

Now on the other hand How to Find Music You Like http://
one.revver.com/watch/119146/flv has had 1363678 views, 53902
completed views, 3087 ad clicks and has made $607.89.

I think this could change as both bandwidth delivery and my content
get better but who knows?

Revver.com has been great to me. They are very cool but I'm curious
how much money I'm leaving on the table by not putting my content
everywhere I can get paid for it. - You know you don't just buy DVD's
at Blockbuster anymore.

But on the other side of that there's also an argument for having
exclusive content that is only available on your site as this will
increase your traffic and allow you to sell advertising there. Take a
look at Ask a Ninja. They got a big deal because their site gets lots
of traffic and they have some really funny content that 12 - 18
year old boys love. I think they have made money at Revver as well.

I'm still curious, is anyone getting paid from BlipTV? Veoh? YouTube?
Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

[videoblogging] New member looking for videographer

2007-04-19 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
My name is Jan and I'm looking for a videographer here in the San
Francisco Bay Area.

I am a thrilled entrepreneur working with a young company I adore, and
I have a brainstorm for an out-of-the-box new marketing campaign!

I need a videographer who is skilled with the web, and maybe one or
two other talented souls with web and marketing experience to pull
this thing off.

Experience with kids would be a fabulous plus!

Due to the filming involved, I'm looking for folks here in the Bay Area.

I wasn't sure how to reach out to videographer talent in the area, and
I was so pleased to find your group. I look forward to hearing from
other members. You can reach me care of ilovekids1234 at yahoo.

Blessings to all,
Jan

Re: [videoblogging] Re: MyHeavy and Magnify and aggregators in general

2007-01-29 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Apple has a link to our website on our podcast page at the iTunes
Store and we get lots of traffic from them. If it wasn't for Apple
we wouldn't have the advertisers that we have today. We also have
lots of comments on our Apple page from people who love us and hate
us. So there is a place for user feedback.

Apple has been very good to the community. Keep in mind they generate
no direct revenue from podcasting, and there's no way to quantify any
indirect revenue on their site at this time. I guess you could set up
an affiliate account and make some money sending people to iTunes but
they send way more people to us than we send to them.

I look forward to other big players following Apple's lead and
stepping up to the plate and creating a UI that is as good as or
better than Apple iTunes. Competition is a good thing.

[videoblogging] Re: pointing feed to a blogger page vs. web-page?

2006-03-16 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

OK, i guess the keep-it-simple rule applies here on the forum, since i didn't get any replies from my kinda lengthy post yesterday  (I think i figured out the diff between embedding and enclosures on my own...)but 2 simple questions remain:are there any drawbacks to using one's own site for vodcasting, as opposed to vlogging via a blogspot page?ie) IF its possible to put up the XML subscription chicklet on one's own webpage, then i'm wondering what functional differences there might be?  forgive my ignorance, but is there a sizable contingency of bloggers doing this, or is it an against-the-grain minority?  I suppose i'd just have to surf out there to see, but i haven't had a chance to peruse too many vlogs unfortunately...(my web connection has been mostly limited to either cellphone when i'm in my RV, or sketchy web cafes when i'm traveling outside the country brazil currently... and that's part of the reason i'd ideally construct my vlog offline, and then just upload when i got to a web connection... vs. step by step posting in some expensive web cafe).  thanks to anyone who could lend their experience and advise me. i'd like to only have to maintain ONE space where people can subscribe to my videos, if possible.and i think I'd prefer that it be my own site's video page, as opposed to a blogger vlog...or perhaps maintaining the 2 could be somewhat automated...?ie) if my site's video page could be 'fed' the videos (somehow thru RSS?) as they're added to my blogger page?...have my site's video page "subscribe" to my blogger page's videos and update accordingly...  now that'd be great! hoping someone could please let me know if this is feasible or even possible to do.and IF this is a relatively common technique, then i'd surely appreciate any URLs which demonstrate good examples of this... thanks! ANY and ALL advice appreciated... thanks much Vlog on, Greg eklektro.net / los angeles currently blogging brazil !!

[videoblogging] feedback on vblog hosting features

2006-02-02 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hey guys, I've been subscribed for a long time but infrequently post
and want to make sure we aren't working in a vacuum. I'll do a brief
intro and then ask my questions.

I'm one of the founders of vidiac.com. We provide free video hosting
using your existing domain name. You point videos.yourdomain.com to us
(or whatever you want) and we set you up your own video portal (like
videos.streetfire.net).

I'm really curious as to how important these things are to you so we
can better direct our development efforts.

- What's the importance of being able to have people download video vs.
stream? Obviously deep linking and avoiding ads makes it difficult to
cover costs.

- Cell phone. We are working on both streaming to cell phone and
receiving videos from cell phones. Problem here is that everyone has
their own standard. Too early? Does it matter?

- Webcam recording. Ability to record your video from your webcam or
capture card straight to the website. No encoding or uploading.

- Blog integration. Allowing you to easily publish the video to
blogger.com or other blog engines.

- Revenue sharing. We are looking at a model where we can optionally
provide video (post or pre-roll) ads and 50/50 revenue split it with
our partners. Does this matter or would you rather just see no video
ads at all.

- API. Looking at adding more features to the API to allow people to
create their own system and grab data on videos using XML-RPC.

- Syndication. Is being able to syndicate your video to other sites of
any value? The idea would be to have the option to publish your video
to other sites and then they can decide if they want it or not,
furthering the reach of the video.

- Chris Jones

RE: [videoblogging] blogger to wordpress

2006-01-18 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Funny, last week I ran the script that
ported all my old blogger entries to wordpress.  Since blogger doesn’t
have categories, the old ones ended up in the default category, but that’s
easy to edit.  The process was very easy...

Just do a google search on “blogger
to wordpress” for detailed instructions.  If you want to see the results
the site is at sleepyblogger.com.  I think I did it last weds or so, there’s
a post saying that I am in the middle of the install, if you want the exact
date.

Also, since I did it this way, I didn’t
have to decide to redirect.  However, if you are hosting on blogspot (I wasn’t)
I guess you’d still have the issue to decide.  My 2 cents on that would
be a 3 second redirect from a page that said This site has moved, if you aren’t
redirected, please click here ___.  I did that when I initially
left the blogspot hosting months ago.

Feel free to email me personally on this.

to wordpress

hey gang,

I am starting to redesign my site and move from blogger  to wordpress

I know that i can import comments and posts and that i can have joshleo.blogspot.com forward
to joshleo.com/vlog (new
blog frontpage) when it is up and running. and I know that the old post
permalinks will not forward to my new permalinks but i am still unsure if old
permalinks forward to the standard site. example:  joshleo.blogspot.com/01/2005/josh-is-cool.html
to joshleo.com/vlog (The new wordpress blog front page)

I know it wont forward to the post but hopefully the permalinks will forward somewhere?
maybe the blog front page?
