[videoblogging] Media Connection feeback

2009-05-12 Thread amani_c
Greetings Group,

I wanted to share a new web TV show with you. It's called Media Connection.
It's more of a traditional talk show as opposed to My Urban Report episodes,
but we're featuring topics related to social media, and innovation, and I'm the
host.

The first couple of episodes run kind of long in my opinion, but the production
value is high. Shot with Sony HDV cams in a pro studio...

Anyhow, if you have a moment, check out the site. The first two episodes are
up.

[videoblogging] Re: The CNN/YouTube debate last night

2007-07-25 Thread amani_c
I think the debates have revolitionized participatory politics. I
submitted questions, and a post debate commentary that was featured
extensively on the network. I blogged about my experience
yesterday, but overall it's a great time to be involved in new
media.

The only thing is the networks don't compensate for the citizen
journalism submissions. I was talking to my brother who's a video
editor at NBC, and we agree that has has to change.

[videoblogging] A video production lesson: Equipment

2007-07-25 Thread amani_c
I just posted my latest video, and thought some of you newbies, or you
vets may be interested in checking it out. I go over some of the
video production equipment during a freelance video production shoot.

Send me some feedback if you'd like. It's called "Morris Brown
College: The Shoot." In the final video I'll be in an editing
session, and will show the final product. I've been debating whether
of not folks would find some instructionals helpful.

[videoblogging] Re: why would feedburner....?(similar issue)

2007-07-05 Thread amani_c
I'm having a similar type issue with my blip.tv videos that are
included in my feedburner subscription. I'm uploading in .mov, and
of course the video is converting to .flv but when my email notice

option to download. Only problem is... after I download (and others
have complained as well), the file format isn't recognized by my

[videoblogging] Feedburberner and my new feed

2007-05-03 Thread amani_c
I'm trying to register my site with Feedburner, but I'm getting this
message. "The feed address you entered includes an invalid leading or
trailing character in the hostname. FeedBurner cannot resolve an
address with leading or trailing punctuation. Try providing your
feed's unique IP address to avoid this problem. (Blogger users hosted
on blogspot.com cannot provide a unique IP address. We recommend a
hostname that uses only alphanumeric characters.)"

Any suggestions? I'm going to try to dissect the code.

[videoblogging] Re: Need advice on how to conduct an interview for use on a blog.

2007-04-09 Thread amani_c
Is this going to be a sit down style interview like a talk show format
or a taped interview like news style? Either way you should think of
your interview as a conversation, and keep a natural flow. Write down
3-5 questions to use as back up or for reference, but don't be tied to
them. Listen to your interviewee's responses and ask follow ups.
Don't say "uhh huh" verbally, just nod your head in agreemnt. Be
relaxed, and have fun. Ask direct questions, don't babble or ramble.
Remember you're in control of the interview. If it's a talk show
format introducew your guest, shake their hand and get to askin If
it's news style where you're just looking for soundbites aks them for
their first last name and title, and get to askin.

Any other questions just holla.

[videoblogging] Re: camera for vlog and more

2007-03-06 Thread amani_c
If you're looking for cost friendly camera that does it all.. I say go
with the the Canon Elura 100. It not only has a mic input, it also
can record in like a vcr. So if you want to convert all your VHS tapes
to MiniDV you can, or if you need to Dub a DVD to MiniDV, you can.
I'm taping most of my blog episodes with the Elura, but I'm also using
a larger 3-chip XL1 for the professional situations.

[videoblogging] Re: The eternal question: What camera is right for me?

2007-03-01 Thread amani_c
Have you considered a Canon GL2? I haven't checked all the specs,
but I think that camera will work fine. Canons have good lenses,
and the GL2 shoots a kind picture and it's three chip. I primarilly
use an XL1 for my professional interviews, but then again, my Canon
Elura holds it's own for the vblogs, and as long as the lighting is
right, the pic is great.

If you go to my myspace... www.myspace.com/visualeyemedia, There's
an "Eco-Home video I shot and produced. All of the house interiors
were shot with a GL2 and the interview was with my XL1. Most of my
vidblogs are with the small Elura.

If you don't have much video production experience, I say get the
little cam and practice. They all basically work the same. Then
upgrade after your skills get better. If you know what you're
doing, get the GL2. If I remember correctly, the GL2 has an adaptor
for mic inputs, and you get get a light for it. Get a mic or two
and you're red to go.

Hope this helps.

[videoblogging] Re: Elura 100 vs. Xacti C40 (and hello!)

2007-02-18 Thread amani_c
What up Jay welcome!

I can't offer a comparison, but I've been using to Elura 100 for a
lot of my v-blog episodes, and I have no complaints. Its a very
affordable camera, it takes great pictures (for a 1 chipper), it has
a mic imput which is a must if you're doing any interviews, and it
works as a vcr and can record from external video sources. I'm
using a wide angle lens for most of my videos, except when I need to
zoom. I also use it as a deck for ingesting video into my laptop (I
also shoot on a Canon XL1 in low light situations).

I checked into the specs of the Sanyo, and I didn't see anything
about a mic imput. For now, I'd take tape (MiniDV) over a hard drive
recorder any day because I like to keep all of my raw, and unless
you're going to save all your video on an external hard drive, all
that video you shoot will have to be deleted eventually.

Any one chip camera is going to be weak in low light situations.
I've found the Elura to be very portable, and it will fit in your
coat pocket with no problem.

Here are a couple of links to some videos I've shot with the Elura
100

http://blip.tv/file/147489

You can compare that to the XL1

Hope this info helps.

I was planning on starting with some of production fundamentals like
shooting and interviewing, and sequences ect. Then maybe go into
storytelling and editing. I think if I start off with the simple
things the other things will naturally follow. But what do you
think will be most helpful?

2007-02-16 Thread amani_c
I don't know if my first post went through because I accidently hit
a key.

So here it is, one mo gen.

I'm wondering if any of you think it would be helpful for me to
produce some how-to video production segments. Several people have
emailed me with production equipment questions, and I'm working with
a class of journalism students who are learning about video this
semester. Just wanted to toss the idea out. I could cover
everything from camera basics, to how to frame, and sequence shots.
My post today is kind of in that vein. I put together some
interviews that some Clark Atlanta students shot, and worked it into
my report.
