Sounds like you need to demux your clip.
I am sure Micheal Verdi mentioned MPEG Streamclip...
it is free and works great...should be able to find it
via a google search...

There are other demuxing programs, I am on a MAC, and
I am sure there are plenty for Windows...

Michael:Thanks a lot for your expert help..I managed to get the Windows version running on my PC laptop,  successfully transcoded the MPEG movies.The Isilon NAB presentation is currently available as a clip over "NAB" video-podcast on iTunes.  Check it out,  tell me if it works OK (plays in iTunes  iPod).I was a hit with the Isilon staff, their presenter was tickled to death that his presentation was availble over a iTunes video-podcast ~30 min after he gave the talk (albeit without audio!).NAB was doing "live" podcast..audio only.  I don't think they were doing video, like I'm doing.  They were simply uploading iPod compatible files..NOT as files syndicated over an iTunes podcast (I'm pretty sure about it).Thanks to this group for giving me the info to pull off some  kind of a coup @NAB.  All of us should be hitting conventions like NAB  doing this.  Getting clips over a video-podcast available, 15 min after the presentaiton.On Apr 26, 2006, at 4:29 AM, Michael Verdi wrote: The site is working for me right now. [videoblogging] 15 min turnaround, live-event video-blogged (Treasure Island, Las Vegas)

I arrived in Las Vegas last night around 8pm,  am trying to do some 
video-blogging over this blog:

I did some tests at the Treasure Island Sirens of TI show. You can 
see the results at:

I was using a digital camera (w/video capability, most of them do), 
took the video, ported it to my Powerbook w/USB cable,  uploaded it 
to Blip.tv. I got the video blogged within 15 min of taking it 
(video was taken ~10:15pm, uploaded it @10:30pm (for some reason the 
time on the blog-entry shows 10:00pm..?). I then transcoded the .mpg 
to iPod compatible format. For some reason the 1st upload to Blip.tv 
had a glitch 3/4 way into the video. I retried it,  it was OK. I 
then got the video to showup on iTunes Treasure Island video- 
podcast (do a search on treausre island in iTunes)

Then, I hooked up my iPod. I.,e., that 10:15pm episode @Treasure 
Island, was available to iPod owners within the hour. I could have 
had it up as soon as 20 min, were it not for the glitches.

I plan to do some more video-blogging (15 min turnaround) @NAB tomorrow.

Mpeg (1) videos are muxed - the audio and video are together in a single track. When you drop them into iMovie you loose the audio. Instead, use Mpeg Streamclip to convert those mpeg clips to DV stream clips. Those will work in iMovie (with sound). Then you can edit and compress from there.
