[videoblogging] Re: A vlogmap observation...

2006-04-05 Thread Casey McKinnon
You're right, I used to think that multiple posts per week would have
an effect on vlogmap, but it doesn't seem to (there's been no
considerable change during vlog week so far). Although I hadn't
posted any Kitkast stuff in three weeks (before vlog week) it's true
that my numbers were staying constant and even increasing... so
although it looks weird, I guess with people always looking for new
content, the stats are pretty constant!

One thing I find strange is when someone removes their feed from the
public eye. Apparently there is an option in Feedburner that allows
you to hide your stats from people (therefore removing it from
vlogmap). Sometimes you see people's stats on vlogmap just hanging
there while other stats keep going. I'm sure lots of people like to
end their public stats on a high note before going to look for
sponsorship!

[videoblogging] Re: A vlogmap observation...

2006-04-05 Thread Bill Streeter
If most of your subscribers are using iTunes you are more likely to
loose subscribers if you post more often. Because iTunes will
automatically unsubscribe a feed if you don't watch or listen to 5
episodes in a row. So if you start posting everyday, from say,
posting much less often than that, you're likely to start losing
subscribers after awhile. This is what happened to me over my rerun
month in February when I was posting every day--my subscriptions
fell by about 30%. I knew about the iTunes thing before, so it
wasn't a big surprise. The interesting thing is that my downloads
went up over that period, so I didn't feel as bad about losing
subscriptions. So just because someone is subscribed doesn't mean
that they are actually watching. I actually think that it's more
likely that someone is watching if they download manually.

Here is another thing, if you have a lot of subscribers, and you
stop posting for a while you're very likely to keep most of them
over time. Why? Because if you never get anything from a feed how
often are you likely to even think about it to unsubscribe from it?
I probably have several dead subscriptions that I am subscribed to
right now that I've never bothered to remove.

2006-04-03 Thread Casey McKinnon
Hmm... I HAVE a skateboard... I used to skate to work every morning...
In the heat of summer, I often did it in a mini skirt, bikini top,
knee socks and skater shoes... unfortunately, I don't do any tricks so
I doubt my stats would ollie too high!

Then again... we're supposed to do something dangerous this week...
perhaps I should work on my tricks and break my neck trying! Hell,
with this nice spring weather, it might be fun!
