[videoblogging] embedding

2005-10-18 Thread silther
I'm new to vlogging, so this is probably a stupid question, but I
didn't see an answer after a search, and I'm not even sure I'm using
the correct terms. Is there an easy way (either pc or mac) to
determine the pixel size of a video in the os environment rather than
using software so one can easily use the embed tag? Alternatley, is
there a way to code the html so that it detects the pixel size and
(I'm using the quicktime format) allow for the extra pixels for the
controls?

thanks!

Re: [videoblogging] embedding

2005-10-18 Thread David Meade

In windows the easiest way is to open the file in a player.

in Windows Media Player (for WMVs) you can then go to File->Properties
in QuickTime Player (for MOVs and others) you can hit cntrl-i

(There are ways to make WMVs display this information within the file
directory view but it's dependant on folder settings and may require
customizing the view, etc etc etc ... even then the info wont show up
for MOVs ... so the easiest way is to just play them and view the file
properties from the player in one of the two above methods.)

[videoblogging] Embedding vs. Not

2007-10-06 Thread Brook Hinton
I'm curious what others feel about the experience of watching video embedded
in a blog / webpage of other content vs the old fashioned experience of just
the movie opening in a new window. Like not even a pop up - a whole window.

Maybe its my emotional tie to a more theatrical world, but I am so much more
focused on a piece when it is ALONE. I go to the actual sites for context,
but when I click to play a video, I'm always so disappointed when it plays
on the page, and even a little annoyed when its just a popup and all the
other stuff is still in my visual field. The only exception is something
like disco-nnect or some of the other hacky web art vlogs where the chaos of
multiple looping windows is the whole point.

On the other hand I completely see the plusses of embedded video from an
overall design perspective, and for video which is more about information or
entertainment than primarily an aesthetic/conceptual experience I wonder if
the surrounding visual and textual material can be a boon.

What do the rest of you find - as viewers and as creators? Or is the whole
thing such a non issue to most that I'm just revealing my ever advancing age
here?

[videoblogging] embedding flash video

2006-03-22 Thread Richard Show

I have been playing around trying to embed flash video on my web page, so, visitors could just click on that and play it (as an alternative to my feed).I created a flv file, and used dreamweaver 8 to embed it in a web page, and it seems to work on a test page I created (though it takes some time to load)
http://www.richardshow.com/flash_test.htmlI tried lifting the code that dreamweaver generated and put it in a word press post, but the page did not show anything.
The code I used looked like this
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,0,0" width="342" height="291" id="FLVPlayer">
        http://richard.blip.tv/file/get/Richard-RichardsWifesBirthdayWMV360&autoPlay=false&autoRewind=false
" />
http://richard.blip.tv/file/get/Richard-RichardsWifesBirthdayWMV360&autoPlay=false&autoRewind=false" quality="high" scale="noscale" width="342" height="291" name="FLVPlayer" salign="LT" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="
http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />Also, I moved two .swf files that dreamweaver generated to the same root directory of the site, which is where I think the wordpress pages/posts go.
These were FLVPlayer_Progressive.swfandHalo_Skin_3.swf(I guess I should note that dreamweaver also generated some _javascript_
in the header and something inside the body tag which is onLoad, but
I'm pretty sure that had to do with checking to see if the right player
was available - I tried adding that to the main index page template too
and that didn't seem to change anything, though I didn't think it would
... but FYI ... you can see all this in the source of the file that
dreamwever generated that works flash-test.html)... any ideas on what I did wrong would be appreciated ... thanks!... Richard-- Richard

[videoblogging] Embedding videos on external sites?

2005-11-08 Thread LeanBackVids.com
Our recently released ski/snowboard vlog has been getting some good
exposure from a single Northwest community site. They get a fair
number of visitors during the winter months and have asked me if they
could embed our videos in their site.

The good: exposure and more viewers of the videos.

The bad: disconnected from our site and more importantly the ability
to comment.

These are not normal vlog watchers. Most probably do not understand
RSS, the appreciation of comments, etc.

What do you guys think? I guess it would be okay if we got more
subscribers out of it, but are we better off having them just use text
links?

hmm ... maybe you could get them to add a subscription button on their
page that lets their users subscribe to your feed. I mean if their
viewers would enjoy them so much it seems like something they might
actually like to offer their users. With that and your URL included
in the video ... might be ok.

If it were me, I'd like a link back to my site on any of the video

they are enjoying so much.

Sounds like the perfect mix for a sponsorship. They bring the traffic,
you bring the vids. You share the revenue from the Sports/CPG/LifeStyle

[videoblogging] embedding URLs in video for clicking during playback

2006-11-27 Thread Robert

All,
If I encode a quicktime using imovie, there's an option for
inserting chapter titles + URLs which somehow present links
during playback.

My tests with this havent been too good with nonstandard
resolutions etc. The links dont show or aren't clickable.
I havent

Anyone have suggestions for this.

Is there any way these links could survive mov->flv conversion.

Is there any way these links could survive mov->mov(lower res)
conversion if for example uploading to blip.tv and forcing the
user to watch the lower res mov?

No, you will have to re-create the link in Flash. Ie. by creating your own
.swf wrapper for the flv video.

Theoretically the chapter track can survive a mov->mov conversion, but it
won't at blip. The solution is to create the low resolution video yourself
and add the chapter track to that.
