[Videolib] preview for One Day After Peace
I need the collective advice of Video-Lib users The Film One Day After Peace was first screened at Hot-Docs Toronto Doc-Aviv -Tel-Aviv in April 2012, since it has been screened in over 30 film festivals also in over 100 screenings including United Nations Headquarters -New-York Carnegie Institute for Peace -Washington-DC. http://onedayafterpeace.com/index.php As The Issue of Peace is important, Last month we decided to start distributing to libraries while the film is still on it's festival circuit. Already 15 Universities have purchased one day..' To get libraries to purchase the film we offer the possibility to get an online preview by Vimeo, I offer it only to professors or librarians that ask for a preview. I use the following wording: Thanks for your interest Here is the password Htpp://vimeo.com/XX Password: XX This is a preview for personal use only. Nahum I want advice on: 1) Is it clear that the recipient can use it only as a preview and for example not enter a class and screen the film? 2) Do any other distributers offer the same possibility? Re: [Videolib] films on undocumented workers
Hi Matthew, Women Make Movies has two films that may be of interest: Troubled Harvest This award-winning documentary examines the lives of women migrant workers from Mexico and Central America as they work in grape, strawberry and cherry harvests in California and the Pacific Northwest. Interviews with women farm workers reveal the dangerous health effects of pesticides on themselves and their children, the problems they encounter as working mothers of young children, and the destructive consequences of U.S. immigration policies on the unity of their families. Featuring an interview with Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union. http://www.wmm.com/filmcatalog/pages/c72.shtml Performing the Border A video essay set in the Mexican-U.S. border town of Ciudad Juarez, where U.S. multinational corporations assemble electronic and digital equipment just across from El Paso, Texas. This imaginative, experimental work investigates the growing feminization of the global economy and its impact on Mexican women living and working in the area. Looking at the border as both a discursive and material space, the video explores the sexualization of the border region through labor division, prostitution, the expression of female desires in the entertainment industry, and sexual violence in the public sphere. Candid interviews with Mexican women factory and sex workers, as well as activists and journalists, are combined with scripted voiceover analysis, screen text, scenes and sounds recorded on site, and found footage to give new insights into the gendered conditions inscribed by the high-tech industry at its low-wage end. http://www.wmm.com/filmcatalog/pages/c474.shtml Let me know if you have any questions. Re: [Videolib] films on undocumented workers
Hi Matthew, 7th Art also has a couple films that might be in line with what you're looking for: VALLEY OF TEARS, Directed by Hart Perry http://www.7thart.com/films/Valley-of-Tears Dense, contradictory and distressingly honest, Valley of Tears is that rarity among political documentaries: a genuinely thought-provoking film. -The New York Times Years as Barbara Kopple's cinematographer serve documaker Hart Perry well with his magnificent cinema verite epic of campesino struggle in a small south Texas town. -Variety Hart Perry (Director of Photography - Harlan County, USA), has documented the lives of Mexican-American migrant farm workers in Raymondville, TX since 1979 when the onion workers' strike broke out. What followed was a fight not only for higher pay but also for equal rights and representation. For 24 years, the county's Mexican-American residents were determined to fight for what is right. Valley of Tears is a complex story of the long journey of individuals who endure hardship in order to make a better future for their families. BEYOND BORDERS, Directed by Brian Ging http://www.7thart.com/films/Beyond-Borders Beyond Borders moves past the headlines and takes an in-depth look at the hot-button issues of legal and illegal immigration. The film explores the forces driving the immigration controversy from both sides of the debate. Anti-immigration activists demand we stop this illegal alien invasion,” while some pro-immigration forces speak of a Reconquista, a reclaiming of the American Southwest by Mexico. In search of a middle ground, Beyond Borders travels across the U.S. and beyond to give voice to those on the front-line of the issue, including candid interviews with Border Patrol agents, radio talk show celebrities, demographers, the Minute Men, potential migrants, and a host of experts including Noam Chomsky (Distorted Morality) and Gustavo Arellano (Ask A Mexican). Beyond Borders is an entertaining and enlightening film that asks: Is migration a basic human right?
