Re: Scanning Apps

2012-05-19 Thread Earle
I agree that the camera wouldn't be good enough to scan on an iPod. I do use
Prizmo on my iPhone 3GS and I am able to get readable results. It took me a
lot to get going with it, but I do actually use Prizmo on a fairly regular
basis though.

Re: Best way of using the Voice Over Rotor?

2012-05-19 Thread Portia Scott
Hello Debbie,

To use the rotor, I place two fingers on the screen. When I want to change the
setting, yes you have to rotate like a dial. However, when I rotate my finger,
I rotate in a wide arc.

That seems to work.

bie,

I always use my thumb and index finger of my right hand and turn the rotor
either way, depending on where I want to get to. Be careful not to be too
far up or down the screen when doing this. I find about a third down is
best and past the information at the top.

a lot of difficulty with. It's the rotor, I know you have

I find that some times it doesn't work. It makes a sound

Any advice is much appreciated.

Hi Mary,

I don't know of a way to remove tweets from someone you've stopped following
from your timeline. You can, however, search for a particular user and see only
their tweets. I believe Search is in the More tab of Tweetlist.

Re: Concerning Library of Congress

2012-05-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I agree it would be good if we could download the books directly to the
iPhone. I don't think the NLS needs to put a time limit on their books
though. There challenge is restricting access to qualified blind users
which doesn't require any time limits. Either way, I'll be OK if we have
to download the books to our PC first, especially initially. Also, if
NLS does go with time limits, I guess that wouldn't be any different
than any other lending library.

clearing twitter timeline

Is there a way to clear out the twitter timeline of stuff you've either read
already or of people whom you've decided not to follow after following them and
being overwhelmed with tweets rather quickly? I unfollowed some folks, but I

If local weather is on the first one should be where you are at that moment.
Double tap on it and it should bring up the weather app from where
you can switch to other cities you have saved.

When I travel, if local weather is turned on, will that forecast

Hi Veronica,

My experience is that the weather widget shows the weather of
whatever city you select in the Weather app. So find the closest
city to you in the weather app and focus on the page showing its
weather. The weather widget should then show that city.

Best,
Anna

Hi everyone!
Okay, this is not exactly a life-altering issue, but it is a bit
annoying. I live in the city of Santa Cruz, California.
When I first set up my phone and everybody starts looking for my
location, the weather widget comes up and quickly says Capitola or
Aptos Hills. Now, these towns are clear across the county and
their weather is quite different than it is where I live. The only
way I get around this is to turn off local weather and add a city,
mine. When I type in my zip code, well, truthfully, it now shows
me another town up in the hills, but it's closer to Santa Cruz.
So, my question. Can I reset local weather by making it search for
my location again? I'm assuming that if I have local weather
turned on, it will show the weather wherever I am if I travel. Is
that a correct assumption? I have tried turning weather off, in
the location services section of settings and then turning it back
on again. This did not fix the problem.
And just for fun, by the way, I tried adding the extra four digits
of my zip code. That was good for a laugh. It showed me Portugal.
Anyway, if anyone knows of a good article on the weather widget
that I'm not finding, that would be cool.

Thanks for any help any of you can offer.

If local weather is on it will use location services to find where
you are and give your local weather.

This works around the world as well as I've discovered.

When I am at home it insists I am in a nonexistent town.

Hi Ramy,

iCloud backs up all your contacts, so that if you ever need to erase all the
data on your phone, you can get it back by restoring the latest iCloud backup.
However, if you delete a single contact from your phone, it will also be
deleted from iCloud.

All iCloud does is sync whatever you have on your iPhone to a server
hosted by Apple. So long as contacts is turned on in settings, iCloud,
they will be backed up both manually and automatically.

RE: Help With Ringtones

2012-05-19 Thread Steve
BlankKay,

What is the length of the ringtones that didn't sync? When I updated my
phone to IOS 5.0, the maximum length of a ringtone it would accept appeared
to decrease from thirty to twenty-some seconds. I had to edit a couple of
mine to make them work again.

RE: Need help with dead IPhone

2012-05-19 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi,

My 4S does this a lot too. I'm beginning to suspect there's a design flaw in
that phone somewhere that's causing the random needs to reset.
It's quite unnerving, actually, seeing as I just got mine yesterday.

Hi Darla,

No, you don't have to be able to see. If you hold down the Home and Power
buttons for 10 seconds, you've held them down more than long enough for the
Apple logo to appear. I just suggested having someone look for the Apple
logo because the phone hadn't been responding, so extra feedback could be
encouraging.

Best,
Anna

twitter newby with questions

2012-05-19 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,

I have signed up with a twitter account. I don't imagine tweeting, but I do
want to follow a few others. I looked at tweetlist free and pro version and see
no difference in the descriptions. What is the difference between these two
apps? And what is a tweetlist, which apparently some people use and others
don't, but it is suppose to be one of the selling points of this particular
app? I want to keep it simple, just follow folks and keep things organized. Can
I start following people using the tweetlist app? Or do I have to sign up to
follow people on the twitter.com site itself? And I probably have more
questions, but maybe what I should do is talk with somebody on skype or
something, rather than clog the list.

In answer to your second question, as long as it is able to access
location services, local weather will show weather at your current
location. I learned this while I was out of town a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Weather widget question, can I reset local weather?

2012-05-19 Thread Veronica Elsea
Hi again!
I guess I'm still confused here. When local weather is turned on, if I go to
edit cities and add Santa Cruz, it now says I have two cities showing. It calls
them both Santa Cruz. If I turn off local weather, I then have one city of
Santa Cruz. My two cities of Santa Cruz have very different weather forecasts.
When I travel, if local weather is turned on, will that forecast change based
on where I am? Thanks.

I must have missed the memo on which kind of jailbreak he has. In that
case, it makes sense that because of the jailbreak, mail isn't working.
A note to all wood be jailbreakers though, it's not the jailbreak, it's
the tethered jailbreak which causes issues because if you don't plug in
when rebooting, you will be out to sea without a paddle or gas in the
motorboat. I loves me the untethered jailbreak for this reason. *smile*.

Sounds like you simply need to reboot the phone. Press and hold POWER
for a few seconds until the shutdown screen appears, then with
VoiceOver, double-tap on the "slide to power off" control. After a few
seconds, again press POWER for a couple seconds and wait until your
phone reboots. Then try to open Mail again.

Hi Nicki,

Try holding down the Power and Home buttons together for about 10 seconds.
This should prompt a reset. It may take a couple of minutes for the iPHone
to come on afterward. If someone sighted is around, ask them to watch when
you do this and see if an Apple logo appears. If it does, release the
buttons once it appears.

Best,
Anna

Hi Veronica,

My experience is that the weather widget shows the weather of whatever city
you select in the Weather app. So find the closest city to you in the
weather app and focus on the page showing its weather. The weather widget
should then show that city.

comes up and quickly says Capitola or Aptos Hills. Now, these towns are
clear across the county and their weather is quite different than it is
where I live. The only way I get around this is to turn off local weather
and add a city, mine. When I type in my zip code, well, truthfully, it now
shows me another town up in the hills, but it's closer to Santa Cruz.
So, my question. Can I reset local weather by making it search for my
location again? I'm assuming that if I have local weather turned on, it
will show the weather wherever I am if I travel. Is that a correct
assumption? I have tried turning weather off, in the location services
section of settings and then turning it back on again. This did not fix
the problem.
And just for fun, by the way, I tried adding the extra four digits of my
zip code. That was good for a laugh. It showed me Portugal.
Anyway, if anyone knows of a good article on the weather widget that I'm
not finding, that would be cool.

Thanks for any help any of you can offer.

I use the gesture anytime it has messages. You have to focus on the status

Hi,

I'm doing quite well with most of the iPhone gestures, except the one that

swipe downward with three fingers, but I can rarely get it to work or
replicate it once I have succeeded. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: configuring a .me account to outlook please help

2012-05-19 Thread Nancy M
IMAP, by its nature, is a protocol that keeps the mail on the host. If you
want to delete from the host, you will need to configure your mail reader
to tell the host to delete after reading.

This is typically located in the 'advanced' portion of the mail controls.

I am relentless on getting Christianbook Distributors to make their app
accessible with voiceover. This is one fight I'm not giving up on.
I've written them each time their app is updated but still useless for us to
use.
I don't know if anybody else cares about this but I do.
My notes are getting more and more, shall we say, firm, grin. There are
other book apps that are accessible with voiceover, I don't understand why this
one isn't and I told them that it is only right and fair they look into this.
If they want to be an outreach to other people, they need to do all they can
to do that, and that includes making reading material accessible to people with
reading disabilities, audio is just not enough any more.
Just thought you'd want to know about my crusade, grin.

Hi Kerry,

I'm pretty sure an iPad can't charge off a computer, or if it does, it happens
very slowly. It requires more power than an iPHone, which is why this doesn't
work well.

Hello,

You need to touch the status bar. Once focus is in the status bar, the

Hi, try this.

1. Tap with one finger the status bar.

2. Lift your finger.

3. Place 3 fingers on the screen and move them down and then lift them up.

Hi all, yes I can do it all of the time. I start from the top of the screen
where it has att (on mine) wify, status bar, battery power, etc. if you are on
one of these top row ituns justflick your 3 fingers together down the screen,
touching it.if you are on calendars, photo, camera, maps, weather, notes, etc.
you will never get thisnotification center. Hope it works.

I like that, "mash". What if I just want to press it instead? Seriously
though, another thing you can do, is turn the phone sideways when you do
the 3-finger swipe. Many don't know this, but it doesn't matter if your
fingers are horizontal or vertacle, as long as there are 3 fingers on
the screen you can have them in any placement. The key is, 3 fingers and
the correct direction for the page turning.

Help with ring tones

2012-05-19 Thread Kay Malmquist
Well now, let me put a new spin on things. All those ringtones that did not
show up in my ring tones play list are in my music folder. They did sync to
my phone as ring tones before but now for some reason that I and people at
Apple care can not figure out they will not go to my ring tones list. I
have tried deleting them and resyncing them and still the same results.
Remember, these all worked at one time. To weird.

Hi all,

I have a strange problem with some of my ring tones on my IPhone 4 s. What
is happening is that when I go to sync my ring tones I get a message that
says that some of the tones were not loaded on the phone because the songs
could not be found. All the songs are in the same place and if you play
them from the playlist or the view where you can check or uncheck them, they
all play. I have had some of these on this phone before so I know they
work. If anyone has any ideas I could sure use them. Thanks much.

Hi,
I'm doing quite well with most of the iPhone gestures, except the one
that enables one to activate the notification center. I know you are
supposed to swipe downward with three fingers, but I can rarely get it
to work or replicate it once I have succeeded. Does anyone have any

Re: Concerning Library of Congress

2012-05-19 Thread Vicki Meizinger
I like the library's plans and it sounds like they have really figured
it out from allangles including fannincially. Why, then, would someone
want to only download for 2 weeks andthen be stopped for doing so?
Noone is going to take allof their books or anything like that. People
take what they want to read within a reasonable length of time, at least
I think so. I think we would have a right to enjoy the bard library
anytime as we do now, no matter what the changes.

Anna

I like that, "mash". What if I just want to press it instead? Seriously
though, another thing you can do, is turn the phone sideways when you do
the 3-finger swipe. Many don't know this, but it doesn't matter if your
fingers are horizontal or vertacle, as long as there are 3 fingers on
the screen you can have them in any placement. The key is, 3 fingers and
the correct direction for the page turning.

the usual sound so I tapped the screen, nothing. My husband checked it, and
he said it looked like it was turned off, no power. It own't turn on at all

computer. no Itunes and the phone hasn't come back yet. any other ideas
what I can do? thanks.

2012-05-19 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Nicki,

Try holding down the Power and Home buttons together for about 10 seconds. This
should prompt a reset. It may take a couple of minutes for the iPHone to come
on afterward. If someone sighted is around, ask them to watch when you do this
and see if an Apple logo appears. If it does, release the buttons once it
appears.

Best,

Make sure VoiceOver is focused on one of the items along the top of the
phone. I use the time. Do your 3-finger swipe down from there, and it should
work.

Hi,

I'm doing quite well with most of the iPhone gestures, except the one that
enables one to activate the notification center. I know you are supposed to
swipe downward with three fingers, but I can rarely get it to work or
replicate it once I have succeeded. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Well it depends on where you are. If you are on page 2,3,4,5 or whatever you
mash the home button once and it returns you to page 1. If you are on page 1
and mash the home button you will be placed in the edit field of spotlight.

Ah, my mistake, then. I just tried the majority of them out, and they do
work.

Hello Daniel. Yes, it's extremely old, but have you actually tried them out?
Apple uses the Dragon engine for the dictation. I dictate all the time, and
yes, these all work.

Hi guys:
I just downloaded Mantis Bible Study. I have the built-in KJV Bible. I've
also bought the New American Standard Bible with Strongs for $30.
I'm having problems reading both Bibles with speech. When you try and read,
each verse number, and the majority of the words keeps saying link. For
example You might hear Link 35 Link the Link Loard Link said. etc. I
understand those links means I can either perform an action on the verse, or
use the concordance, etc. The issue is when you are trying to read, it
interrupts the flow, and is hard to understand. Any suggestions on resolving
this?

I won't give up

2012-05-19 Thread Patti Johnson
I am relentless on getting Christianbook Distributors to make their app
accessible with voiceover. This is one fight I'm not giving up on.
I've written them each time their app is updated but still useless for us to
use.
I don't know if anybody else cares about this but I do.
My notes are getting more and more, shall we say, firm, grin. There are
other book apps that are accessible with voiceover, I don't understand why
this one isn't and I told them that it is only right and fair they look into
this.
If they want to be an outreach to other people, they need to do all they can
to do that, and that includes making reading material accessible to people
with reading disabilities, audio is just not enough any more.
Just thought you'd want to know about my crusade, grin.

Until you can actually confirm by yourself that its accepting 11G

Ok, just trying this thumbs thing, so got the phone sideways, so hand over
the one main speaker outlet; so couldn't hear it. Moved hands a bit, now
doesn't hold very comfortably; but got a text donein the end. Once you

I usually type with my thumbs, but sometimes with my right index
finger. I became accustomed to typing with my thumbs while using a
querty keyboard on an android. I have used a home row on a computer
since age nine, so learning to locate keys with my thumbs was not too
hard. I am not very fast, but it works. I have a bluetooth keyboard
for longer typing needs.

Re: Concerning Library of Congress

2012-05-19 Thread RDLAW
They should do what Audible does. The Audible app allows you to go on line and
download a book from your library. If NLS uses this idea but also setting a
time limit of use, for example, 2 weeks, then the cannot be accessed for a
period of time by the same reader.
