re: What is the purpose of the Notification Center?

2012-05-24 Thread Joseph Lee

Hi,
Think of Notification Center as system tray or notification
area on your computer. When you have only default programs,
weather could be the only one being active. To make this area
come to life, it is often recommended to install or use apps
that use Internet connection such as Stocks, Weather, Mail,
social networking apps and so forth.

Cheers,
Joseph

As a brand new iPhone user the Notification Center seems
superfluous. There
is an icon on my home screen if I want weather and so far that's
all I see
that it does. And I don't see anything about it in the excellent

Re: Breaking Out of Mail Jail

2012-05-24 Thread Kimber Gardner
I'm having trouble with the app switcher myself.

Sometimes when I go into the app switcher I can double tap and hold
then I'm prompted to double tap to delete apps. Other times I go in
there and I get popped back into a particular app and can't figure out
how to get rid of anything. I end up with a dozen apps all running in
the background because I can't get to the point where I can delete
them from the app switcher.

Is this what's going on with you, Sandy?

Okay, I finally got home to some wifi and have been able to
 download the
app. It looks really interesting and I like the interface.
 The app will
automatically read out details from POI's around you. The
 data is as stated
taken straight from foursquare. This is not a 'yellow pages'
 type model for
POI data as someone guessed at. Also the app is available
 outside the US,
i'm in Australia and the app description states some of the
 other
non-english languages for which there are localisation's.

I haven't been able to go for a walk to see how it responds
 but sitting here
at home I can see the direction and distance to a number of
 things around
me. I got the app to give me my current location and I got
 the street name
and distance and direction to the nearest corner.

On the negative side, the whole interface seems to frees up
 and or go slow
when the GPS signal is poor. The app does self voice the
 fact that the GPS
 is poor as well though.

BTW, You can turn off self voicing if you like.

Anyway i have only had a brief look so far but definitely
 don't regret
spending $12 on it. Not that I want to encourage more
 expensive apps but
lets face it, I spend that much on a whim for a few cups of
 coffee.

Congratulations on your new phone. If you will take the time to visit
http://www.applevis.com you will find a myriad applications from games
to music to business etc. It's a wonderful resource and one which will
come in hhand more than once. One game though which I personally would
recommend is stem stumper. It has a number of different levels and
 various difficulty levels.

What are some Voiceover accessible games that you guys really enjoy?
I have the new iPhone 4S and I'd like to have a few more games on
here. I want to get King of Dragon Pass, but I can't do that until I
get a WiFi connection somewhere. So any ideas? Do they have a
hangman game by any chance? Word searches, crossword puzzles,
anything like that is also awesome.

Hello Keith,

If the books you need aren't available from the iBook Store, try Kobo books.
The Kobo app is accessible on the iPhone and they have a huge selection of
books.

Hi Kimber,

Which version are you using? If it says Google Play Books, then page-turning
is not accessible. If it's the older Google Books app, you can try
left-and-right-swipe with three fingers.

Re: How to turn pages in the Ibooks app

2012-05-24 Thread Kimber Gardner
Lol! Thanks. That's good to know. I did know about the two finger
swipe to read continuously but not that you could tap to pause then
resume.

On 5/24/12, Teresa Cochran vegaspipistre...@gmail.com wrote:
Oh, boy. I'm sorry; I misread the message.

In the Ibooks app, if you're using speech, simply swipe down once with two
fingers. This will make the book read continuously. If you want to pause,
tap once with two fingers, and resume the same way. You can also use the
three-finger swipes i described in my last message.

Sorry for the confusion; I had Google Books on the brain, obviously.

 HTH,
 Teresa
On the other hand, there are different fingers.

Converting wma to mp3 and playing on Downcast

2012-05-24 Thread Kirsten Edmondson
Hi all,
First, apologies for the cross posting. I've tried to resolve this problem, but
I can't seem too, can anyone help?
I have four wma files which I now can play on my mac using quick-time/perrien
However, I really want these folders (audio) to transfer to my phone, in a
podcast style. However, I can't change them to mp3 or m4a. When I try to export
them into m4a to subsequently add to itunes on the Mac it says this media must
be corrupted. It's fine. I tried renaming them as mp3 but that didn't work
either. Then I thought that if I tried exporting them from my dropbox app on my
iphone into downcast that might work, but of course, they are still in wma and
I can't get them to play there.
How can I get them into itunes so they will sync to my phone?
How can I get them into mp3 or m4a so I can if nothing else put them through
downcast and dropbox and get them on that way?
Can anyone help? I need simple instructions, cos clearly I can't get it to work
myself ...
Thanks.
Kirsten.

Hi all. I don't have any specific models, but if you are looking at
getting something a bit cheaper than $100, Wal-Mart has some iPhone docs
which are alarm clocks, ETC as well and I've sen them for around $40 or
$50. I'm not sure how accessible they are or what the deal is, but
paying over $100 for something just to be your alarm clock seems a bit
eccentric to me. Then again, people say the same thing about me when I
spend money on favor points with Storm8 games. So to each his own,
right? *smile*.

Hi all,

Do you have a favorite bedside iPhone iPod dock?

I don't mind if it is just a speaker dock or clock radio.

A remote would be a nice bonus but not necessary.

I'd like a small/medium footprint, good sound, and charge my iPhone4s
and Nano 5th gen.

Look forward to your replies.

RE: Accessibility of icloud.com website on a PC

2012-05-24 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi,

The website isn't accessible on a mac either, unfortunately.

Subject: Accessibility of icloud.com website on a PC

Hello all,

To make a long story short, I tried the Find My iPhone service for the first
time in a long while on my PC yesterday. I use Windows 7 32-bit? and JAWS
13.0.852.

To my dismay, I found the website to be totally inaccessible both in Firefox
and Internet Explorer. It's the kind of website where using the JAWS cursor
would be particularly useful but, at least in my case, the JAWS cursor
doesn't really work that well in Internet Explorer 9 anymore.

I'm guessing the website would be accessible on a MAC since it's Apple's own
utility; apart from that, I suppose borrowing another iPod or iPhone would
be the only alternative. What do you guys think? Has somebody had better
luck than I had?

Best,

Grant

2012-05-24 Thread Grant Hardy

Hi Ed,

Interesting - can you elaborate a bit? Where's here, a PC or a
MAC? What browser and screen reader are you using? What features
of the site (such as find my iPhone) have you tried? What
techniques are you using (for example, the JAWS cursor) to
navigate the site?

I like to think of myself as fairly knowledgeable when it comes
to navigating the web, so I feel interested that you don't have
any problems with the website.

Hi, this is just a follow-up to our e-mail/telephone campaign this past

Hello,

Thank you for your email. While we do understand this is very frustrating
and we apologize for the inconvenience of not being able to use your braille
display with your iOS device. We appreciate your patience while we continue

Re: Games

2012-05-24 Thread Tom Lange
Hi,
Papa Sangre was one of the first games that I bought for my iPhone and I have
to say, the audio in that game is absolutely amazing. There are 25 levels to
play through, and it can be frustrating when trying to figure out how to
navigate through them, but it's fun, too, and can be addicting. I'd definitely
recommend it.
