games that contains tournaments?
Hi all: I'm looking for games which contains tournaments, if I will win, I will meet someone stronger, and so on, are there any accessible games like this? I knew about blind tennis, but it's not accessible, any ideas? Re: a problem with flash messages
Well, I tend to use flick left and right, and if I didn't start on the open message, I feel about for it, then flick left and right; usually right as it , the dismiss button, will be at the end. Sending compound sms texts does this when the telco sends a notification for each as they go. Orientation lock is in the app switcher, a 3finger stroke to the right I think, but not sure; someone will correct me, but you can go in there and try left and right and used left and right flick to feel around too. - Original Message - From: Ramy Moustafa moshtaqlealga...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Sunday, May 27, 2012 10:28 PM Subject: a problem with flash messages Hi all: I have a problem here on my I phone 3gs, with flash messsages. Re: My minimal experiences with voiceBook for faceBook
Have many tried the FaceBook the hard way, but in their mobile page which is a great deal smaller and simpler - http://m.facebook.com. I had more success with this so far as I could check and change things. - Original Message - From: Grant Hardy grantha...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, May 28, 2012 1:11 AM Subject: Re: My minimal experiences with voiceBook for faceBook Hi all! Efforts to make Facebook more accessible are always much appreciated - thanks to all who shared their tips and experiences with this app, and of course, huge props to the developers for putting it out there! If I could make two observations, however, I would say that firstly the app is almost too simple, you know? I'm surprised you can't simply move through items in your news feed using traditional VoiceOver gestures such as flicking right and left. If you could, then that would deliver a lot more power functionality such as the ability to quickly scroll through the posts. Secondly, I was a bit surprised that there's nothing in the way of viewing and replying to messages and wall posts. This would seem to me to be pretty core functionality, and I really would need to have it before I could rely on the app. Cheers, Grant On 5/27/12, Vicki Meizinger mom.meizin...@gmail.com wrote: I did also, and spent a long time with it, because I wanstedso badly to have only one app for this thing. I love the way it reads my friend's posts to me. That's just me though. I figured out a few things. 1. I could not get the app to work properly once I authorized the app through faceBook. However, I cleared all of the apps from my app switcher including the voiceBook app and the faceBook app. Then I did a quick reboot by quickly pressing the lock button five times. After that the app worked. I don't know if the restart of my iPhone was necessary but I did that just in case. 2. Flicking up and down does move me through my newsfeed. I then had to double tap on the newsfeed item currently on my screen to get to the menu to go to the top of the screen. I don't know if I would have been brought to the top of the newsfeed if I were more patient and waited for the refresh to complete though. That's about all I have figured out so far. Hi, You need to tap on Accounts, to open the accounts screen. There are many options including, like, who likes this, comment, status, go to top, go to bottom, refresh, done, and voiceBook settings.. 3. In voiceBook settings I was able to turn application posts off. I really do not want to see who is playing farm games and such. I was really happy to see this option in settings. 4. If you select the option to leave a comment, it will bring you to a screen that says post status or something like that. I was afraid I had hit the wrong choice; however, it was indeed where I was to leave a comment. I tested it. Find the text box, double tap it, and type away. Then flick to the left and the button is labeled save. Double tap the save button and your comment should post. This procedure is the same if you choose the status button and you want to post your status for your friends. 5. The refresh button does refresh your newsfeed. I then had to double tap on the newsfeed item currently on my screen to get to the menu to go to the top of the screen. I don't know if I would have been brought to the top of the newsfeed if I were more patient and waited for the refresh to complete though. That's about all I have figured out so far. I did leave a status update and a friend commented. I know this because the official faceBook app sent my iPhone a notification. I have not experimented with how to easily and quickly reply to this comment. So far, I have not found anywhere on this app to access any notifications. :) It may or may not exist. Best of luck to you all. Overall, it's a clean, and very simple app that I am quite happy with to read my friends posts. Hi, I actually forgot about emailing the dev and won't be able to do it until tomorrow now. The website is stormystudio.com and is fairly easy to find using Google. Hanna, read my original post on this topic or just read the description of the app; it was a fairly long post so I don't really want to rewrite it again. Cheers, Ben. There are 2 versions in the app store; at this point its not really worth paying for the full version. I think we could have a really good game here if a few of us kindly asked the dev to make it more accessible. At the moment, the game is playable but has some major accessibility issues: Its inpossible to do anything at all with vo turned on. Even getting past the mistory screen that opens when the app is opened that apparently doesn't have anything on it and makes no sound requires that vo is turned off. Once you've turned vo off and tapped the bottom third of the screen in the centre, you are taken into what appears to be a menu with music. This is also inaccessible, but if you tap for long enough, you will eventually start the game. Gameplay is frustrating. At first you are presented with nothing but eventually you will hear some kind of enemy object moving closer to you. At this point, tilt your device around until it sounds from the centre of your headphones and tap anyware on the screen to shoot it. The 2 issues in gameplay are: Tilting is very slow to react and when it does I always seem to have tilted too much; those of us who have tilted our devices whilst playing aurify will know what I mean - this is exactly the same. You don't seem to be able to fire as quickly as you should be able to. Practicly speaking, you are only able to fire about 2/3 times whilst the object is in the centre. If you tap streight after you've fired, nothing will happen unless you weight and tap again. It's hard to think that this could be part of the gameplay as opposed to a bug. I'll be emailing the dev later today; I encourage everyone else to contact them with your own feedback. Hi, IMO this could solve all of the GPS issues that we as blind people have been having on iDevices - E.G. not really one app that does everything that we need. The turn by turn directions for example should be really usefull and it sounds like they've used prerecorded human speech for the audio output which should make the app much cheaper than blindSquare for example where seemingly the majority of the cost is due to licencing costs for the TTS. accessibility setting for jailbroken devices
Hey Buddy, get the tweak called Active Access for Activator. This uses the Activator tweak to add custom gestures or commands to enable and disable accessibility functions. For example, I have mine set so that when I press both volume buttons at the same time, it toggles Voice Over. bragging about PWNTunes
Hey all. I would just like to let you all know that I'm extremely happy with PWNTunes. This is an app which allows me to add and remove music and photos from my iPhone without the use of iTunes. It also allows me to have access to the entire file system of the phone so if I need to move things around, or just use it as a usb stick, I can do that and I'm not sandboxed in like regular iOS apps. First off, this is a jailbreak app, so if you are not jailbroken, or if you have no interest in jailbreaking, you might as well stop there. Second, the app is not free. If you buy it from Spirit of Logic web site, the cost is around $12.99, but if you get it from Cidia it's currently on sale for $6.99. You get a free trial so you can see if it will work out for you first. When you plug your phone to the computer, it will show up as a device in Computer like normal, however when you open the folder, you then go to the Internal storage folder and instead of seeing just the DCIM folder with pictures, you also see, My Music, Misc, and some other stuff. The misc folder is a typical usb file storage where you can put whatever, but the My Music folder is where you can add music to the iPhone. Add and remove all you want. And then when you are done, simply start the iPod or Music app and it will import it into its internal library where you can enjoy all you want. Removing music that you added is done in the same way, but by deleting it from My Music instead. A few notes to keep in mind. 1. This doesn't work on a Mac, at least from what I can tell. 2. It works flawlessly in Windows 7, and maybe Vista. 3. If using it in XP, you will need to run an xp fix utility which comes with the program. Instructions are provided. Thanks all. -- Raul A. Re: ,Facebook app
Hi Rob, if you want to add people you know, you can search for them by name and/or email address. That's the other way if you don't want Facebook searching your mail for you. Also, if you know someone's direct facebook page, you can go there and add them. For example, if you have a friend named John Smith, it's highly doubtful you will find him easily by doing a name search. However if your friend John has a direct link to his FB profile, such as www.facebook.com/the-read-john-smith, then you can go there and add him, knowing you have the right John. Re: Voice book VO
It is very basic but very good at the basic things it does. There are a couple of other things you can do. Two of these options only show up if there are comments and/or likes. If there are comments or likes on the post you will also see the options to read comments and who likes this.. When you are in the menu of a newsfeed post, keep right swiping all the way down and there is also an option for settings. There are three options in the settings screen. I turned off the viewing of apps. I was super happy to have this option. I am totally not into seeing who is playing what game. :) I know other people really like the games. This app is very simple and basic as I stated before. However, this is the easiest experience I have ever had reading my newsfeed, ever. It has always been so time consuming to flick through all of the other junk. I love just being to flick up and down from post to post with one flick instead of many flicks. I also like that on each post I can hear how many comments and likes. I am excited to see what other things we will be able to do with this app down the road. Re: getting back to main screen in voicebook?
Danielle, you are dealing with a program not of the one these folks have been talking about. the one you are working with is voicebook, not voice with a space between book. the one you are using requires you to turn off the phone and re-initialize, that is, turn the phone back on in order to get back to a main screen. Be ware, though, if you load the app voicebook, no space between that you may infact lose voice over, or have it severely deminished when you press the home button. You can hear it, just barely if you put the phone up to your ear, just enough to shut the phone down. Also, if you power down your phone and then power up your phone, voice-over may yet be reduced. What I have done is to go in to another app which handles audio, like my ipod on the phone or ESPN and hit the play button. For some reason, when I do this, Voice-over is restored to it's regular volume. I do like the voicebook, no spaces though, I like the idea of making audio posts. Yesterday I sang happy birthday to a friend and put it on her wall. Re: Help accessing iTunes U content
Hello Jerry, Currently in iOS 5 iTunes U is accessed through a separate free app that you download from the App Store, similar to the way that iBooks works; you can browse iTunes U content from that app, and also use it to access your library of iTunes U. In earlier versions of iOS iTunes U used to be another category under the Music app on your device, similar to the way podcasts appear under that app, but now you need to get the separate app to review contents. If you want to access iTunes U content through iTunes on your computer, you need to check the box that enables it as one of your displayed libraries. On a PC I think you can do this from the Edit menu on the iTunes menu bar after selecting Preferences. On a Mac, one would press Command+comma to bring up the Preferences menu, and check the box for iTunes U as one of the options under Show on the General tab of Preferences before closing the dialog window with Command+W. Then an entry for iTunes U will show up in the sources list, along with your music library, podcasts, movies, etc. Be aware that since some of the iTunes U content is taken from regular university courses, there may be additional download files of notes, etc. associated with the course material. Also, I recall that some courses, like the earlier Stanford University courses on programming for the iPhone, were available in both audio-only and video download formats. HTH. TextFree seems to be a good app
I just thought I'd share my experience so far with TextFree here. I had used it a few years ago and let it expire, but I had reason to go back to it yesterday actually because of texting a lot with someone on an IPod touch that doesn't have and doesn't seem to want to upgrade to IOS 5.x with IMessage in it. So this app is nicely accessible and has the added benefits of being able to make and receive calls and voicemail now. One nice benefit is you can get what if you want it to can be a completely free additional local phone number. You could pick another area code too if you wanted. That can give a number to put in things or give out where you would prefer not to give your actual cell number and if things go for any reason how you don't want them to with that number, just let it expire. That's just a thought and there are other ways to do that as well though. The HD quality calling is quite nice too. The texting is always free and the calling gives you like 20 minutes a month outgoing and all incoming free. To buy a hundred minutes more is $1.99. To get rid of the ads for a year is $5.00. What it didn't have before when I used it a few years ago was the way to buy more minutes. Definitely useful to have the app. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. I used to share links without being signed into the account but, this lets me add items when I want to as well. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: transfering contacts from nokia to iPhone?
The only problem with this method is that your SIM card may not hold all of your contacts, all of the information in each contact or all of the formatting information contained in your contacts. This is what I did though to get started right away. I'm now looking at getting all of the information in my contacts on my E71X over to my iPhone. Another thing that seems to work is to export all of your contacts on your Nokia phone to VCF files. You can then mail these VCF files to yourself as attachments and then open them up on your iPhone. You'll then have the choice to create new contacts or add the information to existing contacts. This may still be more labor intensive than some other options, but it appears to work and be an option. Hello. Go into iTunes and check info. Your contacts from your address book will then be synced with your iPhone. I did this in outlook express so I know it works. Thanks.
