2012-07-12 Thread Chuck Dean
Hi all,

I am typing this with Fleksy, and I have to say I am pretty impressed!

It does take a little time to get the hang of it, but I was typing quickly in
about 10 minutes. End I seem to get faster and faster.

Two things to know, if you are using a blue tooth headset, you can hold your
hand over the screen to have your text read back to you, and be careful not to
go to high on the screen when swipeing or you May engage the notification
center.

Have fun!

Re: Fleksy is now available in the App Store

2012-07-12 Thread Les Kriegler
Dave, i heard a demo by David Woodbridge, I believe it's on the Applevis site.
It was really impressive. If you know the query keyboard, you'll do fine with
this. Mr. Woodbridge tried to make mistakes in order to demonstrate how to
correct a word, and he had a hard time making errors. That sold me on the
program because I cannot type as fast as I think I will once I master this app.
Like anything else, I'm sure it will take some practice before becoming
proficient.

I just installed fore square, and I was wondering, does anyone know of any

I know a lot of people use it, and I wanted to give it a try.

Re: Fleksy is now available in the App Store

2012-07-12 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi Jessica,

It's a program that allows you to type letters without being absolutely
precise. After you type what you think the letters of a word are, Fleksy uses
what I like to call Word Prediction. What this means is that when you complete
the word you are typing, a swipe to the right inserts the word followed by a
space character and it is verbalized by Fleksy. If the word is correct, you
continue typing the next word. If the word is not correct, you can swipe up
and I believe down to hopefully find the word you want and it will be entered.
It is important to note that when you begin typing, VoiceOver must be unloaded,
as speech is generated by Fleksy. I also downloaded the app and look forward
to learning it.

RE: how to deal with iPhone troubles

2012-07-12 Thread Joseph Lee
Hi,
A UI service is a background program to regulate the user interface, such as
graphics. SpringBoard is the actual name of the home screen program (usually
this name is used by developers). "restart the home screen" means that the
SpringBoard program will be restarted without saving changes.
Cheers,
Joseph

RE: AccessNote AFB's New Notetaker for your IOS Device

2012-07-12 Thread Jon Pierson
Hi,
Yes, most of the "features" mentioned, especially (all that talk of
compatibility) is due to Apple's implementations. The "Access World" app
seems to be nothing more than a proprietary reader for their own
publication. I'm starting to smell that ghetto mentality that says that
blind folk need different apps, devices and technology, not improvements in
existing programs that would make us nearly equal.

They seem pretty proud that it works with wireless keyboards and braille
displays; I can't think of an app that I've used that works with vo that
isn't usable with a keyboard. The only vaguely interesting things seem to be
the custom hotkeys and the tilt feature, although I'm not sure what's wrong
with a turn the page style swipe.
AFB & the creaters almost certainly don't think it's worth the pricetag, but
unfortunately this is just economies of scale coming into play - because
such a small amount of people will buy the app, they simply can't charge any
less assuming they want to profit. It's a shame really; it doesn't sound
like it's going to be anything overly special, but for the mostpart, if an
app has a nice UI (Which this probably will do), I'll buy it even if it does
the same thing as another app that I already use, but in this case, it looks
like it will be too much.

Cheers,
Ben.

how to deal with iPhone troubles

2012-07-12 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi all. The recent discussion of resetting the iPhone by the so-called
6-press of the sleep/wake button prompted me to look around the net to
see if this has any merit. I couldn't find any documentation, blog
posts, or wiki entries which suggest this as an acceptable way of
resetting your phone. So, as me and others have suggested, if you want
to reset your phone by making it crash, go right ahead. The following
link gives some common problems and common solutions to try if you have
trouble. The document is a bit outdated, but I think most things still
apply. And guess what, I didn't find that the posted suggested crashing
your phone to reset it. .

Re: Otterbox cases and dot covers

2012-07-12 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, just so you know, the Speed Dots protectors are re-usable. So even
if you think the adhesive wears out, it doesn't actually wear out. In
fact, I took mine off earlier today and put it back on because when
putting on one of my tighter TPU cases, I noticed the bottom right
corner was a bit off, meaning the protector was slightly crooked. I took
it off, re-aligned it and now it's perfect and I can remove or put on
another case without worrying about lifting the corners.

Cheers.

Labels work well as they're a plastic faced paper backing and you get to
line it up before committing the adhesive. Still, I extracted the 3GS out
the Defender it lived in, fiddled with this Speed Dots cover until it was
finally in the right place, all be it peeling anywhere I touched it. Then I
tried a bit of ingenuity in how I put the phone to the new caseand
got the whole thing in with one try and without lifting any of the loose
corners. The Impact case is very neat, it's the padded shoulders I think
are the most effective, but it holds the darned dots thing down so well,
I'll get to use it properly now.

So well done for recommending the Impact and will now join the endorsement
for that model.

RE: AccessNote AFB's New Notetaker for your IOS Device

2012-07-12 Thread Rick Alfaro

Richard,

I agree with you. Although I think it's great that such an app is being
developed, from what I was able to get from the feature list, I certainly
don't feel it would be worth $30. Maybe to others it would be so I realize
this is very subjective. As you said, there are several note type programs
out there that work just fine with VO and sync with Dropbox. Maybe 10 or 15
bucks no more. I understand the visually impaired market is a small one but
it still bothers me when these kind of apps can be so overpriced.

OK, I read through the entire article.

The only feature that is remotely interesting to me is the search for a term
in all of your notes. The Review Mode could have some usefulness, but not
for anything close to $30.00.

There are too many excellent text editors out there already that work very
well with VoiceOver and any blue tooth keyboard, braille or not.

Since I haven't seen any version of this I probably shouldn't be quite so
skeptical, but I really can't see what they are so hyped up about.

It doesn't mention being able to create folders to keep documents organized,
which to me is a deal breaker with any text editor.

AccessNote: AFB's New Note Taker for Your iOS Device

Darren Burton and Ricky Kirkendall

The AFB Tech lab is excited to announce that AFB will soon be releasing
AccessNote, a note taker for your iPhone or other iOS device. AFB Tech, in
conjunction
with FloCo Apps, LLC, has designed what is expected to be a groundbreaking
productivity tool for people with vision loss, and developers plan for its
launch
at the App Store later this summer.

AccessNote is a powerful and efficient note taker that takes advantage of
the tremendous built-in accessibility of your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.
To
allow for much greater typing speed, increase accuracy, and permit keyboard
commands, AccessNote is designed to be used with the Apple Wireless Keyboard
(QWERTY) as well as wireless braille keyboards and displays. AccessNote will
be completely compatible with VoiceOver and the iOS screen reader. It can
be used without a keyboard, but a keyboard adds efficiency.

Description of AccessNote

Although there is not yet a final price point, AccessNote will be priced
under $30, and it will have many of the features found in traditional note
takers
and accessible PDAs. AccessNote creates notes in the .TXT file format, and
it can also import .TXT files from e-mail or Dropbox accounts. It is
designed
with a clean, simple interface that uses standard iOS design techniques, so
its layout will be familiar to iOS device users.

The home screen is titled All Notes, which is the heading at the top of the
screen. The next element is the "Add" button (for adding a new note)
followed
by the Search field. Next is the user's list of files and notes, which
includes a table index for quickly scrolling through notes. Finally, there
are three
buttons at the bottom of the home screen: "Settings," "Favorites," and
"Help." Once the user is in a note, the screen includes a "Back" button to
go back
to the All Notes screen as well as a "Review" button for going into a
read-only mode.

Some of the features designed into AccessNote include:

list of 7 items
. Compatibility with the Apple Wireless Keyboard and wireless braille
displays.
. Fast and efficient navigation.
. Powerful search features.
. Automatic saving and syncing with Dropbox files.
. Customized keyboard commands.
. A review feature.
. Options for larger text.
list end

Compatibility with the Apple Wireless Keyboard

Although typing on an iOS touchscreen is certainly accessible, it is not
nearly as efficient as using a traditional QWERTY keyboard, a primary reason
for
designing AccessNote for use with the
Apple Wireless Keyboard
(available from Apple for $69). Another reason is due to how well the Apple
Wireless Keyboard works with VoiceOver to control an iOS device. There are
keyboard commands for nearly all of VoiceOver's gestures, including
swiping/flicking, using the rotor, and reading text. AccessNote will also be
compatible
with wireless refreshable braille displays. So far, AccessNote has been
tested with the
BraillePen12 from Aroga,
which also has many commands for controlling an iOS device.

RE: apple tv

2012-07-12 Thread Rick Alfaro
Apple TV must have an HDMI connection to get full functionality due to the
copy protection used on services like NetFlix, and Itunes. Newer flat
screen tvs and some sound bars have HDMI inputs. If you don't have a tv or
receiver with HDMI inputs, you might consider looking at a sound bar.

Best,

Re: resetting was Re: Earpiece Problem

2012-07-12 Thread James Mannion
It's like if you are using a program on your computer and that program
crashes. In this case what it crashes is a portion of the operating
system. A crash is always undesirable. The best way I can think of to
explain it is an unexpected disruption and halting of the program
which causes it to stop running in a way and for reasons that were not
designed for it to encounter. That means, among other things, that it
may not save data or delete temperary data that it should when it
normally exits. Data can become corrupt as a result. That data could
be data that the operating system uses as well as it could be your own
data. It is never a good idea as a general practice to intentionally
crash a program or code. It would be like if you found for example if
you pressed and held down some number of keys while in your word
processor that it would crash with a message that said this program
has stopped running and whatever the message may say and you found
that was a quicker way to get out of the program than the proper
sequence of pressing alt-F and x for exit or whatever.

Re: pandora update

2012-07-12 Thread Christina
Hi, I had to get sighted assistance from my ten year old because I could not
find the airplay. There are two buttons labeled thumbs up. The first one
seems to be the thumbs up button we are familiar with. However, I don't really
get why they made this "thumbs up" button right next to it. It is NOT a thumbs
up button but some sort of menu button. On my iPhone 4 it very briefly brings
up the volume slider and airplay button right under the other buttons as it was
in prior versions. I find this very useless because it's very difficult to
bring this up. My son could barely do this with VO turned off. I think he had
to touch the button and swipe to the right. Then the darn little menu
disappeared before I could double tap the air play button. Anyways, it's much
easier to just use the volume buttons on the side of the phone. This will
bring up the same volume slider and air play button under the play button. You
must be very quick to find that air play button. Well, for me at least, this
disappears very quickly. It's really a pain but useable. :)

Honestly this reminds me of SimpleNote. Not sure what the cost of it is--I
got it for free. Also reminds me of Notesy and PlainText and other DropBox
editors. Or at least things that can be synced to DropBox.

I admit, I like the review feature. I could read Braille books that way.
But $30 or just under? I'll have to think very hard before deciding if I
want to purchase it or if I'll make do with the three other options I
currently have--not including Pages or DraftPad--for note taking on my iPod.

2012-07-12 Thread Richard Turner
OK, I read through the entire article.
The only feature that is remotely interesting to me is the search for a term
in all of your notes. The Review Mode could have some usefulness, but not
for anything close to $30.00.
There are too many excellent text editors out there already that work very
well with VoiceOver and any blue tooth keyboard, braille or not.
Since I haven't seen any version of this I probably shouldn't be quite so
skeptical, but I really can't see what they are so hyped up about.
It doesn't mention being able to create folders to keep documents organized,
which to me is a deal breaker with any text editor.

productivity tool for people with vision loss, and developers plan for its
launch
at the App Store later this summer.

AccessNote is a powerful and efficient note taker that takes advantage of
the tremendous built-in accessibility of your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.
To
allow for much greater typing speed, increase accuracy, and permit keyboard

(QWERTY) as well as wireless braille keyboards and displays. AccessNote will
be completely compatible with VoiceOver and the iOS screen reader. It can
be used without a keyboard, but a keyboard adds efficiency.

Description of AccessNote

Although there is not yet a final price point, AccessNote will be priced

it can also import .TXT files from e-mail or Dropbox accounts. It is

followed
by the Search field. Next is the user's list of files and notes, which
includes a table index for quickly scrolling through notes. Finally, there

AccessNote: AFB's New Note Taker for Your iOS Device

Darren Burton and Ricky Kirkendall

The AFB Tech lab is excited to announce that AFB will soon be releasing
AccessNote, a note taker for your iPhone or other iOS device. AFB Tech,
in

conjunction
with FloCo Apps, LLC, has designed what is expected to be a
groundbreaking
productivity tool for people with vision loss, and developers plan for
its

launch
at the App Store later this summer.

AccessNote is a powerful and efficient note taker that takes advantage of
the tremendous built-in accessibility of your iPhone, iPod Touch, or
iPad.

To
allow for much greater typing speed, increase accuracy, and permit
keyboard
commands, AccessNote is designed to be used with the Apple Wireless
Keyboard
(QWERTY) as well as wireless braille keyboards and displays. AccessNote
will

be completely compatible with VoiceOver and the iOS screen reader. It can
be used without a keyboard, but a keyboard adds efficiency.

Description of AccessNote

Although there is not yet a final price point, AccessNote will be priced
under $30, and it will have many of the features found in traditional
note

takers
and accessible PDAs. AccessNote creates notes in the .TXT file format,
and

it can also import .TXT files from e-mail or Dropbox accounts. It is
designed
with a clean, simple interface that uses standard iOS design techniques,
so

its layout will be familiar to iOS device users.

The home screen is titled All Notes, which is the heading at the top of
the

screen. The next element is the "Add" button (for adding a new note)
followed
by the Search field. Next is the user's list of files and notes, which
includes a table index for quickly scrolling through notes. Finally,
there

are three
buttons at the bottom of the home screen: "Settings," "Favorites," and
"Help." Once the user is in a note, the screen includes a "Back" button
to

go back
to the All Notes screen as well as a "Review" button for going into a
read-only mode.

Some of the features designed into AccessNote include:

list of 7 items
• Compatibility with the Apple Wireless Keyboard and wireless braille
displays.
• Fast and efficient navigation.
• Powerful search features.
• Automatic saving and syncing with Dropbox files.
• Customized keyboard commands.
• A review feature.
• Options for larger text.
list end

Compatibility with the Apple Wireless Keyboard

Although typing on an iOS touchscreen is certainly accessible, it is not
nearly as efficient as using a traditional QWERTY keyboard, a primary
reason

for
designing AccessNote for use with the
Apple Wireless Keyboard
(available from Apple for $69). Another reason is due to how well the
Apple
Wireless Keyboard works with VoiceOver to control an iOS device. There
are

keyboard commands for nearly all of VoiceOver's gestures, including
swiping/flicking, using the rotor, and reading text. AccessNote will also
be

compatible
with wireless refreshable braille displays. So far, AccessNote has been

Hello Fred,

Your Word documents can be read on a Mac using TextEdit, the built-in word
processor. TextEdit isn't a professional tool, but it's fine for every day
use. It can produce files in Word format as well as RTF HTML and TXT.

Cheers,

Re: Baby Adopter game?

2012-07-12 Thread jeffry miller
basicly you pick a baby and adopt it andyou feed it and do all the
things you do for babies. you get points and you can use the poinhts
from your score to buy things for the baby and to decoragte rooms in
your house. you can also get toys and clothes and changing tables and more.

RE: Sirius XM On The Iphone?

For me, the phone clicks when I go through the channels, but vo
does not say a word. Maybe I will delete and redownload the app.

- Original Message -
From: "Jay Phinnemore" I just downloaded the Canadian Sirius app this morning and don't
seem to
have this problem at all. I double tap on a category like country
and then
go down the list and see all the channels there and can click on
whatever
one I want. I usually listen to "The Highway" and so, that is
what I double
tapped on and it started to play. It is easy to change channels
too, You can
use the player functions but, I just double tapped on another
channel and it

closed the previous one and started to play the new one.

Hi Everyone:

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to listen to Sirius XM
on the

iphone.
I have downloaded the Sirius XM app but once you click on a
channel you
can't seem to be able to go back to the list of
categories/channels to

select a different one.
Is the sirius xm app just inaccessible or is there a way to be
able to go

back to the list of categories/channels with voiceover?
Is there another app I can use instead of the Sirius XM app to
access

sirius xm content?
Someone told me about music dock but the problem with it is that
when you
click to listen to a station it takes up to two minutes or more
for the
station to begin playing. I also notice significant battery
drainage when I
use this music dock app and it also cuts out a lot and has to
restart
playing the channel so I begin to listen and then it stops for
around two

minutes or more. It is very annoying.
This sirius xm thing is rather upsetting to me because I am
paying for the

internet radio service and I can't even access it!

Thanks so much for any info/help anyone can give.

Re: AccessNote AFB's New Notetaker for your IOS Device

2012-07-12 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
They seem pretty proud that it works with wireless keyboards and
braille displays; I can't think of an app that I've used that works
with vo that isn't usable with a keyboard. The only vaguely
interesting things seem to be the custom hotkeys and the tilt feature,
although I'm not sure what's wrong with a turn the page style swipe.
AFB & the creaters almost certainly don't think it's worth the
pricetag, but unfortunately this is just economies of scale coming
into play - because such a small amount of people will buy the app,
they simply can't charge any less assuming they want to profit. It's a
shame really; it doesn't sound like it's going to be anything overly
special, but for the mostpart, if an app has a nice UI (Which this
probably will do), I'll buy it even if it does the same thing as
another app that I already use, but in this case, it looks like it
will be too much.

Cheers,
Ben.

RE: Sirius XM On The Iphone?

2012-07-12 Thread Jay Phinnemore
I just downloaded the Canadian Sirius app this morning and don't seem to
have this problem at all. I double tap on a category like country and then
go down the list and see all the channels there and can click on whatever
one I want. I usually listen to "The Highway" and so, that is what I double
tapped on and it started to play. It is easy to change channels too, You can
use the player functions but, I just double tapped on another channel and it
closed the previous one and started to play the new one.

Actually, I have the Canadian app and a subscription and it is very
inaccessible. vo does not say a channel name until you click to listen to
it. It also does not say the options in the settings tab.

Subject: Sirius XM On The Iphone?

 Hi Everyone:

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to listen to Sirius XM on the
iphone.
I have downloaded the Sirius XM app but once you click on a channel you
can't seem to be able to go back to the list of categories/channels to
select a different one.
Is the sirius xm app just inaccessible or is there a way to be able to go
back to the list of categories/channels with voiceover?
Is there another app I can use instead of the Sirius XM app to access
sirius xm content?
Someone told me about music dock but the problem with it is that when you
click to listen to a station it takes up to two minutes or more for the
station to begin playing. I also notice significant battery drainage when I
use this music dock app and it also cuts out a lot and has to restart
playing the channel so I begin to listen and then it stops for around two
minutes or more. It is very annoying.
This sirius xm thing is rather upsetting to me because I am paying for the
internet radio service and I can't even access it!

Thanks so much for any info/help anyone can give.

 Kerri

Re: AccessNote AFB's New Notetaker for your IOS Device

2012-07-12 Thread Jane
Honestly this reminds me of SimpleNote. Not sure what the cost of it is--I got
it for free. Also reminds me of Notesy and PlainText and other DropBox
editors. Or at least things that can be synced to DropBox.

I admit, I like the review feature. I could read Braille books that way. But
$30 or just under? I'll have to think very hard before deciding if I want to
purchase it or if I'll make do with the three other options I currently
have--not including Pages or DraftPad--for note taking on my iPod.

You just hit the button at the top of your phone six or so times, and it does a

powering off, and doesn't reset as deeply. Still some have found that it helps

Here's a direct link to the article:

I'm not sure what is attractive about this app since several others do
what this one does, and are a lot cheper to boot. Time will tell how
well it does or if the price comes down.

AccessNote: AFB's New Note Taker for Your iOS Device

Darren Burton and Ricky Kirkendall

The AFB Tech lab is excited to announce that AFB will soon be
releasing
AccessNote, a note taker for your iPhone or other iOS device.
AFB Tech, in

conjunction
with FloCo Apps, LLC, has designed what is expected to be a
groundbreaking
productivity tool for people with vision loss, and developers
plan for its

launch
at the App Store later this summer.

AccessNote is a powerful and efficient note taker that takes
advantage of
the tremendous built-in accessibility of your iPhone, iPod
Touch, or iPad..

To
allow for much greater typing speed, increase accuracy, and
permit keyboard
commands, AccessNote is designed to be used with the Apple
Wireless Keyboard
(QWERTY) as well as wireless braille keyboards and displays.
AccessNote will
be completely compatible with VoiceOver and the iOS screen
reader. It can

be used without a keyboard, but a keyboard adds efficiency.

Description of AccessNote

Although there is not yet a final price point, AccessNote will
be priced
under $30, and it will have many of the features found in
traditional note

takers
and accessible PDAs. AccessNote creates notes in the .TXT file
format, and
it can also import .TXT files from e-mail or Dropbox accounts.
It is

designed
with a clean, simple interface that uses standard iOS design
techniques, so

its layout will be familiar to iOS device users.

The home screen is titled All Notes, which is the heading at the
top of the
screen. The next element is the "Add" button (for adding a new
note)

followed
by the Search field. Next is the user's list of files and notes,
which
includes a table index for quickly scrolling through notes.
Finally, there

are three
buttons at the bottom of the home screen: "Settings,"
"Favorites," and
"Help." Once the user is in a note, the screen includes a "Back"
button to

go back
to the All Notes screen as well as a "Review" button for going
into a

read-only mode.

Some of the features designed into AccessNote include:

list of 7 items
• Compatibility with the Apple Wireless Keyboard and wireless
braille

displays.
• Fast and efficient navigation.
• Powerful search features.
• Automatic saving and syncing with Dropbox files.
• Customized keyboard commands.
• A review feature.
• Options for larger text.
list end

Compatibility with the Apple Wireless Keyboard

Although typing on an iOS touchscreen is certainly accessible,
it is not
nearly as efficient as using a traditional QWERTY keyboard, a
primary reason

for
designing AccessNote for use with the
Apple Wireless Keyboard
(available from Apple for $69). Another reason is due to how
well the Apple
Wireless Keyboard works with VoiceOver to control an iOS device.
There are
keyboard commands for nearly all of VoiceOver's gestures,
including
swiping/flicking, using the rotor, and reading text. AccessNote
will also be

compatible
with wireless refreshable braille displays. So far, AccessNote
has been

tested with the
BraillePen12 from Aroga,
which also has many commands for controlling an iOS device.

Fast and Efficient Navigation

Using the Apple Wireless Keyboard, users have several options
for navigating
a note. These options include navigating and reading by
character, word,

line,
paragraph, page, or note. Users can also jump to a particular
word or phrase
with the Find feature, and users can also quickly jump to the
top or bottom
of a note. These navigation features also work on the device
itself using
standard and custom VoiceOver gestures, and most of the commands
are

available
on wireless braille displays.

Powerful Search Features

AccessNote has two powerful features for searching notes: Search
and Find..
Search (found on the All Notes screen) is a global search tool
used for

searching
for text throughout all of the user's files, and it can also
search for file
names. Find is used to search for text within the current note
that is open..
To activate the Find feature, users can use the Option + F
command for the
keyboard or a "double-tap and hold" gesture for use on the iOS
device

itself.

re: Earpiece Problem

2012-07-12 Thread Jessica Brown
What is this soft reset with the sleep button 6 times? How do
you do it and what will it do to your phone?

- Original Message -
From: Austin Seraphin I have a problem and I thought someone would have discussed it by
now, but I don't see anything. I have an iPhone 4S, and sometimes
VoiceOver just decides to switch to the earpiece. This has become
very annoying. It only happened in the last month or so. If I
toggle VoiceOver by hitting the home button thrice or do a soft
reset by hitting the sleep button six times it resets to the
earpiece. For a fix I have to bumble around with my phone against
my ear and launch an app such as Voice Memos which resets control
back to the speaker. Any thoughts?

RE: Sirius XM On The Iphone?

2012-07-12 Thread Jessica Brown
Actually, I have the Canadian app and a subscription and it is
very inaccessible. vo does not say a channel name until you click
to listen to it. It also does not say the options in the settings
tab.

- Original Message -
From: "Marco Migotti" The canadian version of siriuss xm works perfectly so if you live
in Canada,

you don't need to worry about it. Only the American version is
inaccessible. I am running Sirius xm on my 4s and it works just
fine. But
you need to purchase a subscription from Sirius in order to even
use the

app. A program like TuneIn iis free to use.

Subject: Sirius XM On The Iphone?

Hi Everyone:

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to listen to Sirius XM
on the
iphone.
I have downloaded the Sirius XM app but once you click on a
channel
you can't seem to be able to go back to the list of
categories/channels to select a different one.
Is the sirius xm app just inaccessible or is there a way to be
able to
go back to the list of categories/channels with voiceover?
Is there another app I can use instead of the Sirius XM app to
access
sirius xm content?
Someone told me about music dock but the problem with it is that
when
you click to listen to a station it takes up to two minutes or
more
for the station to begin playing. I also notice significant
battery
drainage when I use this music dock app and it also cuts out a
lot and
has to restart playing the channel so I begin to listen and then
it
stops for around two minutes or more. It is very annoying.
This sirius xm thing is rather upsetting to me because I am
paying for
the internet radio service and I can't even access it!

Thanks so much for any info/help anyone can give.

AccessNote: AFB's New Note Taker for Your iOS Device

Darren Burton and Ricky Kirkendall

The AFB Tech lab is excited to announce that AFB will soon be
releasing
AccessNote, a note taker for your iPhone or other iOS device. AFB
Tech, in

conjunction
with FloCo Apps, LLC, has designed what is expected to be a
groundbreaking
productivity tool for people with vision loss, and developers
plan for its

launch
at the App Store later this summer.

AccessNote is a powerful and efficient note taker that takes
advantage of
the tremendous built-in accessibility of your iPhone, iPod Touch,
or iPad.

To
allow for much greater typing speed, increase accuracy, and
permit keyboard
commands, AccessNote is designed to be used with the Apple
Wireless Keyboard
(QWERTY) as well as wireless braille keyboards and displays.
AccessNote will
be completely compatible with VoiceOver and the iOS screen
reader. It can

be used without a keyboard, but a keyboard adds efficiency.

Description of AccessNote

Although there is not yet a final price point, AccessNote will be
priced
under $30, and it will have many of the features found in
traditional note

takers
and accessible PDAs. AccessNote creates notes in the .TXT file
format, and
it can also import .TXT files from e-mail or Dropbox accounts. It
is

designed
with a clean, simple interface that uses standard iOS design
techniques, so

its layout will be familiar to iOS device users.

Although typing on an iOS touchscreen is certainly accessible, it
is not
nearly as efficient as using a traditional QWERTY keyboard, a
primary reason

for
designing AccessNote for use with the
Apple Wireless Keyboard
(available from Apple for $69). Another reason is due to how
well the Apple
Wireless Keyboard works with VoiceOver to control an iOS device.
There are
keyboard commands for nearly all of VoiceOver's gestures,
including
swiping/flicking, using the rotor, and reading text. AccessNote
will also be

compatible
with wireless refreshable braille displays. So far, AccessNote
has been

tested with the
BraillePen12 from Aroga,
which also has many commands for controlling an iOS device.

Fast and Efficient Navigation

Using the Apple Wireless Keyboard, users have several options for
navigating
a note. These options include navigating and reading by
character, word,

line,
paragraph, page, or note. Users can also jump to a particular
word or phrase
with the Find feature, and users can also quickly jump to the top
or bottom

itself using
standard and custom VoiceOver gestures, and most of the commands

Powerful Search Features

AccessNote has two powerful features for searching notes: Search
and Find.
Search (found on the All Notes screen) is a global search tool
used for

searching
for text throughout all of the user's files, and it can also
search for file
names. Find is used to search for text within the current note
that is open..
To activate the Find feature, users can use the Option + F
command for the
keyboard or a "double-tap and hold" gesture for use on the iOS
device

itself.

Automatic Saving and Syncing with Dropbox Files

To avoid any data loss, all edits are automatically saved when
typing in a
note. AccessNote also syncs automatically with the user's Dropbox
account,

so
you have all your files all of the time.

Customized Keyboard Commands

Tinkerlearn

2012-07-12 Thread Austin Seraphin
I wanted to let you all know about a hot new iOS development course at
tinkerlearn.com. The lessons contain working apps with the lessons in the
comments of the code, making it very readable. Of course, you still have to
wrestle with xCode. Also, I don't think the iOS simulator works with VoiceOver,
so you'll have to become an iOS developer and register a device and run it on
there. Still, for the first time I actually put some controls on the screen and
moved them around. The developer also seems very interested in improving
accessibility. He has already started on a lesson about building interfaces
programmatically instead of using the interface builder, which we can't. Enjoy.

RE: Sirius XM On The Iphone?

2012-07-12 Thread Marco Migotti
The canadian version of siriuss xm works perfectly so if you live in Canada,
you don't need to worry about it. Only the American version is
inaccessible. I am running Sirius xm on my 4s and it works just fine. But
you need to purchase a subscription from Sirius in order to even use the

 Kerri

AccessNote AFB's New Notetaker for your IOS Device

2012-07-12 Thread Steve
BlankThis is the announcement, it is not released yet.

"A person cannot survive as a true Spartan fan unless he is a bit of a
masochist and a very large optimist."

Steve
Lansing, MI

• Compatibility with the Apple Wireless Keyboard and wireless braille
displays.
• Fast and efficient navigation.
• Powerful search features.
• Automatic saving and syncing with Dropbox files.
• Customized keyboard commands.
• A review feature.
• Options for larger text.
list end

Compatibility with the Apple Wireless Keyboard

Although typing on an iOS touchscreen is certainly accessible, it is not
nearly as efficient as using a traditional QWERTY keyboard, a primary reason
for
designing AccessNote for use with the
Apple Wireless Keyboard
(available from Apple for $69). Another reason is due to how well the Apple
Wireless Keyboard works with VoiceOver to control an iOS device. There are
keyboard commands for nearly all of VoiceOver's gestures, including
swiping/flicking, using the rotor, and reading text. AccessNote will also be
compatible
with wireless refreshable braille displays. So far, AccessNote has been
tested with the
BraillePen12 from Aroga,
which also has many commands for controlling an iOS device.

Fast and Efficient Navigation

Using the Apple Wireless Keyboard, users have several options for navigating
a note. These options include navigating and reading by character, word,
line,
paragraph, page, or note. Users can also jump to a particular word or phrase
with the Find feature, and users can also quickly jump to the top or bottom
of a note. These navigation features also work on the device itself using
standard and custom VoiceOver gestures, and most of the commands are
available
on wireless braille displays.

Powerful Search Features

AccessNote has two powerful features for searching notes: Search and Find.
Search (found on the All Notes screen) is a global search tool used for
searching
for text throughout all of the user's files, and it can also search for file
names. Find is used to search for text within the current note that is open.
To activate the Find feature, users can use the Option + F command for the
keyboard or a "double-tap and hold" gesture for use on the iOS device
itself.

Automatic Saving and Syncing with Dropbox Files

To avoid any data loss, all edits are automatically saved when typing in a
note. AccessNote also syncs automatically with the user's Dropbox account,
so
you have all your files all of the time.

Customized Keyboard Commands

The AFB Tech lab was able to create a handful of customized keyboard
commands for the Apple Wireless Keyboard. These commands include:

list of 6 items
• Option + C to create a new note.
• Option + R to rename a note.
• Option + F to search for text within a note.
• Option + P to search for a previous note.
• Option + O to move to the next note.
• Option + M to mark a note as a favorite.
list end

Your Word documents can be read on a Mac using TextEdit, the built-in word

Where Did the "My Groupons" Section Go On the Groupon App?

2012-07-12 Thread Christine Grassman
Hey, all. I am stymied. After the latest Groupon app download, the "My
Groupons" feature seems no where to be found. This app used to be almost
perfectly accessible, but losing this feature is a real pain, since it allows
one to bring up Groupons at establishments without having to print them out at
home first. I cannot find it -- I have asked someone sighted to search for it,
and he, too, could not figure out where it went. Does anyone know? :)
(I did write to Groupon Support, but there has been no response as of this
time.)
Thanks.

Hello Everyone,

As many already know, Match.com has an excellent and completely accessible
iPhone app.

I think I've read on here that the eHarmony app is accessible although I
have personally not used it.

At present, the Plenty of Fish App, in terms of VoiceOver accessibility,
is

as dead as the Dodo.

Recently, I been exploring the Christian Mingle.com site and have
discovered
that while they do not have either an iPhone or an Android app, their
mobile

site has been optimized for both and is totally VoiceOver accessible.

You have to join the Christian Mingle.com service on the main site but
once

done, one can login to the service on a mobile device.

The URL for Christian Mingle.com is
http://www.christianmingle.com

If you go to this URL on your mobile device, the site will detect that you
are using a mobile browser and automatically switch to the proper
interface.

Please note that I have accessed the main site on my Windows PC using
ZoomText so cannot speak as to Mac OSX VoiceOver accessibility.

Oh, above I made reference to the Dodo bird. After doing so, I did a
little

research on the Dodo and found out some interesting facts.

I will paste these facts after my name.

I hope you all are doing well and that you find that special someone you
seek.

Most Sincerely,

Mark
Facts About The Dodo
Dodo Bird Facts
Recent studies are throwing light on new information that contradict the
age-old dodo bird facts, that they were overweight and slothful animals
that

caused their extinction. In fact, scientists consider this poster bird of
extinction as the perfect example of environmental adaptation!
'As dead as the dodo'. This expression originated from a bird that became
extinct sometime in after the mid seventeenth century. Although, for long
it

was believed that the species was completely wiped out in the year 1662,
more recent reports suggest that the last sightings of the bird were made
in
1681. The origin of the word dodo is not very clear. Some believe that it
is

derived from the Dutch word dodoor which means a slothful individual.
However, as per alternative interpretation of the etymology of the word,
it
probably has origins in a Portuguese word which means 'simpleton'. It is
not

clear if it were the Dutch or the Portuguese who first saw the bird.
However, the first written account of encounter with the bird finds
mention

in the 1602 journal of a Dutch captain Willem van Westsanen. It is a
wonderful example of both, nature at its best to help every organism to
evolve and make most of the present environmental conditions, as well as
human activity behind the extinction of other life forms. Let us know more
about this wonderful bird through some interesting dodo bird facts about
its

physical appearance, habitat, adaptation and extinction.

Physical Appearance
The dodo existed when the cameras didn't. So, for long human beings had to
depend upon the paintings and written descriptions of this bird provided
by
the early naturalists, explorers and the 17th century European painters.
The

paintings by European artists which became more popular than the early
drawings, depicted the bird as being 3 feet tall and quite robust.
However,

credibility of these paintings is now largely doubted due to the trend of
exaggeration in depicting animals and birds that was prevalent in
Europeans

arts during 17th century. Until 2007, only fragments of dodo skeleton were
available. However, with the discovery of a complete skeleton by some
adventurers in a cave in Mauritius in the 2007, it has now being estimated
that the bird did stand about 3 feet tall and weighed somewhere around 44
pounds. As per these statistics, the bird was definitely big, but surely
not

as overweight as was portrayed by the European painters. The bird is known
to have a 9 inch long bill with pointed hook, grayish plumage, yellow
legs,

small wings and a tuft of small feathers towards its hind quarters.

Adaptation
The forests of Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean formed the dodo
bird

habitat. This island was isolated from the rest of the world till human
beings reached it in early 16th century. The geographical and
environmental

conditions of the island provided for extreme evolution of the bird, that
manifested in the form of gigantism and flightlessness. It is these two
attributes of the extinct bird that gave it so much popularity in the
world
of evolutionary biology, because extreme evolution is the best
illustration

of how the forces of nature work. The bird thrived in the island in the
absence of predators. They did not need to fly away to escape other
animals

and they also made their nest on ground. Its diet consisted of seeds and
fruits that were abundant on the forest flo

Hi rob,
I don't know if this will help you regarding your adhesive, but sometimes
you can give it more life so-to-speak by applying it on a steamy surface.
Since these are standard screen protector material, we've read up on online
forums where folks have applied and re-applied their screen protectors; and
if your surface is just lightly wet, you can often get it to stick again.
We've also had customers say that they have washed them and managed to
re-stick them.
My point is, that it never hurts to google tips and tricks about re-applying
your clear plastic screen protector. There's some interesting methods out
there.
Just thought I'd share!

Well, duly impressed. I had the Otterbox Impact arrive today. I also dug
out the speeddots cover which I'd got disillusioned with. Put it on and off

so often trying to get it on straight, it had long since lost adhesion.

Thanks, RobH, R!

Re: PDA Net in Sidia

2012-07-12 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello Kim. I am assuming that you were able to find it eventually. One thing
that almost threw me off the last time I jailbroke was the fact that not all
the packages were updated right away. Because of this, searching for common
things is usually unsuccessful. In any case, I hope you like the program PDA
net. It is a great program and if you only use the free version you can only
visit non-secure websites. If you pay for the full version you can visit any
website.

I'm not sure which app you are using for your reminders, but I use the one
that came with my phone. Anyway, when I create my reminder, I set an alert
which can be done within the reminder app itself. I always get a sound when my
reminder pops up.

Windows Media Player should be able to convert to MP3.
If not, GoldWave can take it from WMA and convert it to mp3 or M4A.
It even has a batch wizard that will let you do a bunch of files at once.

RE: Otterbox cases and dot covers

2012-07-12 Thread Amy Billman
Hi rob,
I don't know if this will help you regarding your adhesive, but sometimes
you can give it more life so-to-speak by applying it on a steamy surface.

Thanks, RobH, R!

Re: PDA Net in Sidia

2012-07-12 Thread Kimberly thurman
Raul, I looked for PDANet using the search tab many many times. I typed in
PDANet, PDA, net, and various other strings I thought might produce results. I
was frustrated for sure. I finally remembered that a restart might be in
order and, what do you know, it worked. This is really quite cool and the
jailbreak was as simple as pie. Now I have to check out some of the other
tweaks.

Thanks for the responses from everyone on this topic. I was darn near throwing
the thing across the room. *smiles* I suppose it would be wise to restart the
phone after installing Sidia if you want the search function to work properly.

Re: Gmail Calendar

2012-07-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
When setting up an appointment in Google Calendar, there is a field to
specify the alert time and whether it's a popup or an email message or
both. I think the default is 10 minutes. I think this is also
configurable in Calendar settings, but i HAVEN'T LOOKED FOR THAT IN A WHILE.

Re: To Singles Seeking Singles

2012-07-12 Thread Wayne Merritt
I've used the eHarmony iOS app before and found it very accessible.
After awhile, I preferred to use the site to do my match
communicating, but the app could be used as well. One part that I
wasn't able to figure was the answers to some of the questions, since
the answers appeared in different fonts or colors. I did not know a
way to tell the font or color with the app, but I was able to get this
information on a Windows computer with a screen reader.

Regards,
Wayne

Re: Gmail Calendar

Did you check the alert time setting when putting in the new
appointment? Mine is often set to off, but I nearly always change it
to either 5 or 15 minutes before the appointment time.
