Re: urgent help with mm100 headmet

2012-08-13 Thread Kimber Gardner
I've had a similar problem recently with a different headset. The
phone says it's connected but no sound comes through the headset.

Try rebooting the phone. If that doesn't work, go into the bluetooth
settings and tell it to forget the device. Then reboot the phone and
repair the device.

Either of these approaches should fix the problem.

RE: Otterbox Impact Case and SpeedDots Screen Protector

2012-08-13 Thread Amy Billman
Hello, Rob.
Between models for iPad, iPhone, and iPod, we've tried about 20 different
brands of clear plastic screen protectors from different vendors.
These are just your standard screen protector; no different than what a
sighted person would apply over their screen.
We are always looking for ways that our product can be improved; making
application easier for those who are blind/visually impaired. If you have
found a screen protector brand or design that is easier to apply, please
feel free to contact us at SpeedDots. We take all of those requests very
seriously, and research everything.

Take care.

Subject: Otterbox Impact Case and SpeedDots Screen Protector

I've had my Otterbox Impact Case with the SpeedDots Screen
Protector for a few weeks now. And, although I'm quite happy
with my purchase, I do have some questions.

First, I just kind of guessed and put the iPhone in the Impact
case, as I wasn't sure of the correct way. But, it kind of
looked like to me that the bottom part of the case where the
charger and speaker and the like are is the part of the phone
that goes in the case first, and then one pulls the top part of
the case over the top part of the phone. Is this the correct
way; or, does it even make a difference?

Second, when I kind of slowly run my finger over the keyboard,
say in a practice note, when I touch where each dot is, the
proper letter for that dot is spoken. However, once I start
trying to type a bit faster, when I hit the dot say for the N the
letter M might be spoken, or the letter P might be announced when
I hit the letter O. But, if I then tap that dot again, the
correct letter is then stated. I'm thinking this might be
correct behavior, as the dots are smaller than the space allotted
for each letter, although it has also occurred to me that I may
have put the screen protector with the dots on it on the phone
just a tad incorrectly. Thus, clarification on this would be
appreciated. And, as I'm in Kentucky visiting my family all this
week, I would have ready access to sighted assistance if needed.

Not when you try to play it. I wouldn't think that was a flash issue since

No clue if anyone has tried to contact the developers though. I was

Using Skype with a Bluetooth headmet

2012-08-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Steph,

Could you be more specific when you say in Skype No one hears me and I cant
hear them. I assume you can hear people over the earpiece of the phone and
they can hear you if you talk straight into the phone? If that is the case
it may just be a matter of you switching to your Bluetooth headset the same
way you would switch to speakerphone. It's a bit tricky to do this when the
sound comes out of the earpiece because you have to hold the phone close
enough to your ear so you can hear Voiceover, but also far enough away so
that the proximity sensor does not engage and locks the screen. Oh, and all
of this has to be done once you started your call because you won't have the
option to switch until you are in an active call.

Once you are on a call, check the status bar right above the home key where
on the home screen you have your docked apps or where in the phone app you
have the options for your Favourites, Recents, Contacts, Keypad and Voice
Mail. In Skype you will find the End Call button at the very bottom right, a
Mute button and, approx. in the middle above the home key you will find a
button called Earpiece. If you double tap this choices appear above that
and about in the middle of the screen (I mean the middle from left to
right). Maybe do this without your Bluetooth on first to get the feel for it
and if you use the white headset that came with your iPhone first it's even
easier since you hear Voiceover on the headset as well as your Skype call.
The Earpiece option now says Headset. If you double tap it and then
slide your finger up a bit you will find another Headset button, just
above that you find the Speakerphone button and if you slide up even more
you hear the elapsed time for your call. If you double tap on Speakerphone
the call will switch to speakerphone, tap Headset again and it will go back
to Headset.

When I just tried this with my Bluetooth headset, Bluetooth Headset was a
third option in that list, i.e. I had Speakerphone at the top, Headset
underneath and Bluetooth Headset underneath that which means Bluetooth
Headset was the first option if you move from the bottom up. It seemed that
the first time I had to double tap on Bluetooth Headset to get Skype to
route the call to it, but when I hung up and called again it would switch to
the Bluetooth headset automatically just as a wired headset has priority
over the earpiece.

If you want a way to try this all out, you can use the Skype Call Testing
Service, it's Echo123 if you don't have it in your contact list. If you
start a call with the call testing service you get a message that this is
the Skype call testing service and that after the beep you can say something
and if everything works the way it should, you hear a second beep after 10
seconds and what you said will be played back to you., to test these sort of
things.

Also keep in mind that a 2-finger double tap will not work in Skype for
hanging up a call and neither will the headset controls, you have to double
tap the End Call button on the very bottom right of the screen. Hopefully
Skype will at least implement this to work with the headset controls at some
point.

Regards,
Sieghard

My experience with Focus is similar to Raul's. For a few days I could not

The only Focus drawback I see is that I can't find a way to post in our

Navigating Same-Page Google Searches?

2012-08-13 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, all,

I use Braille and speech on my iPod, and I'm wondering how to go to a search
result on a same-page Google search. I can get as far as x matches on page,
and sometimes I hear speech saying something about the context of the word, but
never find it in Braille. I've tried enter, selector button, and router button
to go to the search results. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Teresa

Re: deleting old tweets in tweetlist pro

2012-08-13 Thread jeremy
I can't remember if this is the case with tweetlist, but, normally this
is a client controlled option. Some clients give you the ability to
decide how many tweets will come down at a time and also how many will
be stored.

Take care.

before this starts to happen.

But, maybe I'm trying to compare this to the buffers in qube which may
not be a valid comparison.

Anyway, I'll just let them add up and see what happens.

I've not yet used the plus button. I'll have to give it a try and see what

RE: best facebook app?

2012-08-13 Thread Sandy Finley
I had a similar experience with Focus as Raul; for a few days I could not
post. But it's back and I like it much better than VoiceBook. With Facebook
I logged in one time and now when I click on the app, I'm there. With
Voicebook everytime I click on the app I get the notice to new users and
need to log in all over again. I don't know why this happens.

The only drawback I see to Focus is that I have not been able to access the
private group the Finley Family has. I can't read the group message or
respond. Does anyone else know how one can do this with Focus?

Re: Otterbox Impact Case and SpeedDots Screen Protector

2012-08-13 Thread Rob Harris
Ok, I find that a paper-type flexible peel-off would work better than a
stiff backing. one can do a lot of lining up with the backing still on and
just an exposed corner or end exposed ready to apply once you're happy it's
all lined up; then you pull the backing out from under it and wiping along
the surface to make it adhere. Like you do with the classic sticky-back
plastic.
I['ve done full kitchen tables with that stuff, and the key is never to
expose all the adhesive at once or you'll be fighting it forever more!
That, indeed, is why I didn't get on trying to apply the speed dots thinghy
in the first place.

These are just your standard screen protector; no different than what a

We are always looking for ways that our product can be improved; making

Hi, all,

I use Braille and speech on my iPod, and I'm wondering how to go to a search
result on a same-page Google search. I can get as far as x matches on
page, and sometimes I hear speech saying something about the context of the
word, but never find it in Braille. I've tried enter, selector button, and
router button to go to the search results. Any ideas?

Thanks,

2012-08-13 Thread Christina C.
I'm kind of not as enthused with voice book VO these days. I have noticed that
my FB online does not match my newsfeed on voice book VO. There are several of
my friends that just do not show up at all on voice book VO. I appreciate the
developer's efforts but I would like more reliability, communication, and new
features. I do believe that the newsfeed issues could be a FB issue because FB
is constantly changing EVERYTHING like every three days.

RE: Renaming an App

2012-08-13 Thread Brett
Hi,

You can rename an app on your phone by doing the following:
1. Flick to the app in question.
2. Do a two finger double tap and hold your two fingers on the screen and
slide them up until an edit field appears.
3. Delete the text in the edit field, which should be the apps name.
4. Type in the text you want for the apps name and press the done button on
the bottom right of the keyboard.

Note, this will only change the way VoiceOver pronounces the apps name,
visually on screen the app will still have its default name. There is no way
to change the visual name of the app, the best you can do is to use VO to
relabel it.

Cheers,
Brett.

Hi, The voice over hint I'm curious about says something like marks is not
gone. Anyone know what that means. I've made two different lists, a
shopping list for general stuff and a grocery list for, obviously,
groceries. A friend of mine and I go grocery shopping together and I'm
going to hand her my phone and let her read the list just for fun. That app
is, I'm beginning to think, as useful as the ten items app.

God bless!

Be sure that your favorites are actually saved when you set then up on the
phone. BTW you can only set up the TV favorites on the phone..

I also had a lot of trouble setting up my TV guide, and now that it is all
set up, I never use it! It is difficult and slow to navigate..

I doubt this helps,.

 3. Delete the text in the edit field, which should be the apps name.

RE: Renaming an App

2012-08-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Using custom labels to rename apps is hit and miss, you may find that your
custom label sticks for a while and then disappears. Yes, often in the app
switcher the app uses the original name, I think it has to do with how the
app icon is displayed. The best thing is to also rename the app in the app
switcher using custom labels and if the old name comes back just rename it
again, after you do this 3 or 4 times the new name is usually there in most
cases. Another situation where your custom label disappears is when an app
icon is updated in any way by the developer.

Sieghard

Renaming Apps

2012-08-13 Thread Les Kriegler
Wow, thanks for this great explanation. You were right on target. I had to
keep renaming the apps before they took from within the App Switcher. The two
apps in question were both called Pro Radio, one was for football, one was for
basketball. I just hope that when stations are updated, as will be the case
for each app, the labels will hold. We'll see.

Ongoing Altec-Lansing Octiv 650 Docking speaker Issue

2012-08-13 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, folk,

The problem, which many posters to the AL forum have also verified, is that
volume mutes after about ten seconds when the device is docked. This happens on
both iPhones and iPods. In my case, the speaker worked for awhile when I got it
in December, then quit working after I updated to IOS5.1.

If anyone else has this speaker, I wouldn't mind hearing some feedback from
you. I've gone round with AL Tech Support and received the somewhat-unhelpful
response that there is an incompatibility with the current version of IOS5,
and AL engineers are working on this. Any response from Apple?

Has anyone heard any more details on this? I'm wondering if there might be a
hardware problem.

Thanks,
Teresa

Interesting Solution, Was Re: Navigating Same-Page Google Searches?

Hmmm, I made a slightly astounding discovery. While in the Google search field
in Safari, there is a web rotor item called search results. You can simply go
to the next rotor item and find the next result, as long as you have a search
term in the field, and as long as you don't press the done button.

Weird Issue with Settings

2012-08-13 Thread blind Treasures
First of all let me state that my IPhone 4s is jail broken. Recently I am
having an issue opening up settings. When I double tap the settings icon all
it does is kind of blink and then go back to the icon. I've tried rebooting
but no luck. Any ideals on what may be the issue?

Re: Incredible GPS cycling running and walking apps now accessible.

2012-08-13 Thread James Lee
Here's the reply I got from the company that makes Runmeter, Walkmeter,
Cyclemeter, and 5k Runmeter. Cyclemeter costs $4.99, and 5k Runmeter costs
$0.99 right now. In fact, they seem to be exactly same app except name.
icon, and default activity.

Hello,

Cyclemeter, Runmeter, 5K Runmeter, and Walkmeter, are all built from the
same code foundation. the only difference beside the product name and
application icon is that the default activity is set to Cycle, Run, our 5K
plan, and Walk, respectively. If you do two or more activities, just choose
the activity you do most prevalently, because all activities are fully
supported by each product. We do not recommend that you purchase two or
more of our products, unless you want to keep your data on these activities
completely separate.
Regarding the pricing, each of the apps are in different markets. We wish
we could sell all our apps at $4.99, but there are so many free and cheap
running apps that we determined we to sell it for $2.99. (And 5K Runmeter
is on sale right now because it's new. Get it while it's hot!)

RE: Itunes path to video files

2012-08-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Tom,

This is fairly simple, I assume you have all your videos/movies in one
folder on your external hard drive, let's assume it's called Movies and
Videos. Now open iTunes, go to File and Add Folder. Browse to the
Movies and Videos folder on your external hard drive, then click Select
and all the videos and movies in the folder will be added to the Movies
library in iTunes, but the physical copy remains on your external drive. I
do the same thing with Movies and Audio Books because my laptop only has a
120 Gig Solid State Drive and the Lord of the Rings trilogy in high
definition I bought from iTunes alone is over 30 Gig. You can, by the way,
do this with any media, music, ringtones, audio books etc. As long as the
files have the proper iTunes file extentions they will be put in the correct
library/category in iTunes.

Sieghard

RE: Changing language for dictation on iPhone.

2012-08-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ioana,

If you go to Settings, General and SIRI you will find a language
button. If you double tap it, you can choose from the following languages:

English (Australia)

English (United Kingdom)

English (United States)

French

German

Japanese

At least on my iPhone 4S this is all in that list at this point. I know SIRI
will get a boost in iOS 6 and one would assume that with the release of iOS
6 SIRI is so to speak official and out of Beta, but I am not sure how many
more languages will be added. I just tried this and changed it to German
since neither my French would be up to the challenge let alone my Japanese;
my Australian and Limy accents are also not of SIRI caliber. Anyhow, I asked
SIRI in German what time it was and it told me (in German) that
unfortunately it could not display a list of world clocks. I asked it how
big Canada was and it suggested to search the web for it. I finally asked it
when my birthday was and it did know that (fortunately it refrained from any
nasty comments about my advanced age). After I switched it back to English
United States it told me the time correctly as well as the size of Canada
which, as most of us Canadians know is larger than the United States of
America. OK, OK, I will stop bothering our neighbours to the south.

Anyhow, it seems that SIRI still has some inconsistancies, one thing for
example I have never been able to do is add relationships, e.g. tell SIRI
that a certain contact is my mother, brother ejtc. SIRI repeats it and asks
if it should remember this and when I say Yes it tells me sorry, but the
relationship for that account can't be added. I have a feeling that it also
may have something to do that I don't have a US account although I have no
idea why something like this would or should be region specific. It would
sure be nice if SIRI's language could be changed on the fly or, even better,
if I could say to SIRI Please use German for taking the following
dictation. Maybe we'll get there some day.

Sieghard

Re: Weird Issue with Settings

2012-08-13 Thread James Mannion
Interesting solution. Is that one to keep in one's bag of tricks? What
does it do? Do you mean to hold volume up while the phone boots up or
does it have to be while holding sleep/wake and the home buttons all
somehow?

 Hi,

Try rebooting whilst holding volume up - don't let go until it's finished.
See if that solves the problem.

 Cheers,
 Ben.

First of all let me state that my IPhone 4s is jail broken. Recently I
am having an issue opening up settings. When I double tap the settings

tried rebooting but no luck. Any ideals on what may be the issue?

Re: fleksy - typing tips

2012-08-13 Thread James Mannion
I just started using fleksy and I am quite impressed with it. I was
waiting for them to make it so you didn't have to keep turning
voiceover off and on and pressing the home button at least 6 times or
maybe a lot more per use of fleksy. I was waiting for that improvement
especially after I knew it was coming. What a cool app!

Is the only way to capitalize a word to tap and hold on the letter so
you can swipe down to get the capital version of that letter or is
 there another gesture to capitalize?

 Works great for me!
