Re: deleting a podcast from the iPhone

2012-08-15 Thread Jessica Carter
Hello all,
Deleting items from the phone has proved for me to be a bit tricky.
Double-tapping and holding is the easy part. When swiping to the right, is it
a 3-finger swipe, or what? Also, are you supposed to take your finger off the
screen, and then swipe to the right?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: iCloud question

2012-08-15 Thread Damashe Thomas

Hi,

You probably have other apps that are storing data in the cloud. To solve
this issue go to settings,

iCloud, storage * backup, manage storage.
On this screen you should see any devices that are using iCloud. Tap the
device name who's data you want to manage. You can select which app store
data in iCloud by turning each app on or off. If there any apps who's data
you do not wish to be stored in iCloud, turn it off. You will see a message
alerting you that this apps date will be deleted from iCloud.
You can mange the data stored from any devices you have linked to that
iCloud account from one device, provided the after tapping manage storage,
you see the device's nam in the list of devices.
I would suggest that any app that store your necissary data on there own
servers can be turned off from backing up data on iCloud. An example would
be a facebook app, that information related to facebook is on facebook's
servers, therefore, you don't really need an iCloud backup as well. Turn off
any other apps you deem unnecissary for iCloud backups.

if someone could weigh in on this issue i would appreciate it. i don't want

No, Chuck it was not. I could tell that some of the emails were from NFB

I suspect that a car drove by and you picked up something like a radio

contact Apple.

Doesn't navagon have a feature where you can type in the whole address in the

Hi Ioana,

If it is not asking too much with respect of privacy, could you email me
back directly with the city, street name and house number? I use Navigon and
sometimes streets are difficult to find, for example, in Vancouver there is a
West and East Broadway. In order to enter, for example, the address of Mountain
Equipment Co-Op which is 130 W Broadway I first have to select just “Broadway”,
if I type in “West” or “W” I don’t find it. Then once I type in Broadway and it
asks me for the number I type in 130 and if I tap “Done” at that point it wants
to navigate to 130 E Broadway, but if I go back and flick down I now suddenly
see that it gives me both options. Since it’s sorted alphabetically 130 E
Broadway comes before 130 W Broadway so unless you tap on 130 W Broadway it
assumes you want 130 E Broadway. I h ope this makes sense, maybe this will help
you to figure it out, if not and you can send me the address I’d be happy to
take a look.

Hi all,

Just got navigon and tried to enter an address. I typed street name but did
not find choice of east or west just main name. I tried it but the street
number was assumed to be in east rather than west.

Any thoughts?

Is there anywhere in the app a place for support contact info?

Also HOw do I mark favorites? I found a way to enter home address but thats
as far as I got.

Thanks for your help,

Readers for Daisy format

2012-08-15 Thread Michelle McQuigge
Hello all,

Even in my brief time as an iPhone user, I've become quite an
enthusiastic convert to iBooks. I have recently joined Bookshare in
the hopes of obtaining some more digital titles at a reasonable price.
I see, however, that they don't support the epub format. I'd welcome
your recommendations as to the best voiceover-friendly readers out
there that support Daisy format.

Many thanks,
Michelle

Re: A question about read2go.

2012-08-15 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Annie,

Choose SEttings, which is one of the Read2Go tabs. Then double-tap visual,
which is a button even though it doesn't say so. A choice near the bottom of
the page is Display by Page. Double-tap this as needed to switch it off. Now as
you read with your braille display, you'll move seamlessly from page to page.
At the end of each section of the book, usually chapters, you'll find Previous
and Next buttons. Double-tap Next, and then touch near the middle of the screen
to have the display show you the beginning of the next section. I don't know of
any way to read the whole book continuously without section breaks.

HTH,
Anna

Hi all.

I like using read2go to read books with my braille display, but I wonder about
the slider which should allow me to go to the next page, it takes 10 pages at a

Best regards Annie.

If it is not asking too much with respect of privacy, could you email me

sometimes streets are difficult to find, for example, in Vancouver there is a
West and East Broadway.

Hello All,

While I am waiting for the Fleksey support to respond, I thought I would
try
here to see if others have had this issue and how they resolved it. It
seems
like I take one step forward and two steps back. With the assistance of
the

Fleksey support team, I have been able to upgrade to the current version.
However, every time I launch Fleksey from the iPhone4 or from the app
switcher after it has been loaded, the phone is requesting that I enter my
Apple password. I was wondering if others have had this happen to them and
how they resolved it. I thought of uninstalling it and then installing it
back on the phone to fix this problem. I appreciate any suggestions at
this

point. The request for the Apple password keeps appearing after I attempt
to close it out.

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Eileen

You can buy a dual headphone jack from Radio Shack and plug your headphones in
one and the reader in the other. I've taken several payments this way.

RE: Capitalize a word from Fleksy

2012-08-15 Thread Ron Pelletier
Hi,

With the new way of removing words from the dictionary, wouldn't it work if
you took the word lord out of the dictionary and then putting it back in
with a capital L using the method you described? I haven't looked at taking
words out but the app says you can.

The only way I know of to capitalize a letter is to find the letter
manually, then swipe down to cap it after that you can type the rest of the

I suspect that a car drove by and you picked up something like a radio

Precisely. That is why it was less informative and more political when

All, I haven't used the square reader however I have used Go Payment
which is from intuit. Who are the same people who make turbo tax. Yes,
it plugs in to the headphone jack which disables voiceover. However, I
plug up my bluetooth headset... & go from there. The App which comes
with it is also totally accessible with VoiceOver as well. I've
considered Square, however, I do not like some of their fees & other
practices. I'm not saying they're a bad company.

native email app/iPhone

2012-08-15 Thread Regina Alvarado
My question is really about the gmail IMAP with the native email app on
iPhone, but has anyone on Windows been reading through emails in gmail IMAP
messages and had the computer delete some of the messages in a conversation
you are reading? I am wondering if this is an IMAPP problem or my computer.
Does not happen on iPhone. Working in Outlook.

Onto my native email app question. On the first screen I choose a
conversation (it says so many messages). On the second screen are my
individual emails. I tap one of those, and it goes to the screen with the
actual message. Can someone tell me on the screen where the message starts?
Sometimes it is near the home key but sometimes I have to three-finger swipe
up and then find it on the "next" page. Am I causing them to move somehow
or again is it a gmail quirk? Thanks to all who can shed light on either of
these annoyances. Nothing I cannot get around, just curious.

Re: Fleksy questions

2012-08-15 Thread Rose Waagan

Hi Tom,
There is no decimal point on the numpad per say, but it you feel a bit above
it, you'll see a list of symbols. The period should be above the number 1. Up
there, you also have your dollar sign, your at symbol, your parenthesis, end a
few other important symbols. For the rest of the symbols, you'll have to go
back to the letter keyboard.
Hope that helps,

Capitalize a word from Fleksy

2012-08-15 Thread Danny Leung
Hi all Fleksy users,

Can someone tell me how to capital the word when chose from the suggested
list?

Situation I have was a name of the person was part of the suggested list,
but the name was not capitalize. Also the letter "l" in the word "lord"
isn't in upper case, and I want it to.

Can anyone tell me how to make the first letter uppercase when chosen from
the dictionary?

Thanks!
Danny

Re: Adobe Digital Editions Preview and OverDrive [was Re: Kobo Books]

2012-08-15 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi Esther,

Thanks very much for all of the info you provided. I have not obtained a
library card yet, that's my next step. After I sent my initial message to you,
I went into the Adobe Edition and saw a list of folders where books could be
stored. I figured that I could not download books. My wife has a Nook, so it
sounds like we may be able to share books which would be great. Thanks again.

Adobe Digital Editions Preview and OverDrive [was Re: Kobo Books]

2012-08-15 Thread Esther
Hi Les,

If you've used the OverDrive Media Console app on your iPhone to
download either eBooks or audiobooks to your iOS device, you had to
get a library card account number from your local library for
borrowing. You should be able to read any downloadable eBooks that you
could read in the OverDrive Media Console app in Adobe Digital
Editions Preview on your computer, but you'll want to download the
files directly from your local library's web site to your computer via
your login account, just as Keith would have to download ePub files
for the Kobo books he wants to read on his computer by logging into
his Kobo account through his web browser. You can find the OverDrive
web page for your local library on the web similar to the way you find
and add your library within the app, by going to the OverDrive classic
search page at:
http://search.overdrive.com/classic/
If you type in your zip code into the text box under the section for
"Search Libraries by Zip Code" and press enter, you'll  get a page of
links to the OverDrive web pages for your nearest libraries.  You can
browse and borrow books for your account either through the iPhone app
or through that web page for your library.  Ebooks or audiobooks that
you place into your cart and check out then become available on your
account's bookshelf, and content can be downloaded either into the app
on your iPhone or to your computer by accessing the bookshelf link on
the web page or within the app.

You don't download your books directly from within the Adobe Digital
Editions Preview app; this app is an eBook reader, and is like using a
music playing app.  You add downloaded eBooks to it, or open the books
in this app, and it maintains a library of your books.  But the
content can be books that you bought from web sites, from Kobo Books,
for the Barnes and Noble Nook eReader, or downloaded from your
library.  It just has to be an eBook that is compatible with Adobe's
DRM -- so it can't be an iBook or Kindle book, or some other
proprietary format specific to a particular eReader.  Also be aware
that some free public domain eBooks in PDF format may be image scans,
and not accessible.

If you have further questions, you should probably take them up on one
of the Mac lists.  You can also search the archives of both the
viphone and macvisionaries lists for earlier discussion about
OverDrive and Adobe Digital Editions Preview.  Bryan Jones  posted
about OverDrive (in both groups) a while back.

HTH.  Cheers,

Esther

Re: Apple Password Required Whenever Launching Fleksey

2012-08-15 Thread Syntellia Inc
Hi Eileen,

Do you have iCloud enabled on your phone? Fleksy now uses iCloud to save
your user dictionary, so you can save it across devices. I am wondering if
this could be an iCloud authentication error.

Please email us at supp...@fleksy.com and we will try to help. It's not an
issue we've encountered before, but if it's a bug we will kill it dead
(smile).

Thanks

RE: blind person using s square card reader with iphone or ipad?

2012-08-15 Thread Karl Smith
I tried a splitter from Radio Shack and it didn't work. A friend of mine
says he has one that works but I've not seen it. I thought it would be
simple to just listen through my blue tooth ear piece but as soon as the
card reader went into the earphone jack the audio was cut off the blue tooth
as well. Nothing is ever as simple as you think it is going to be.

Re: blind person using s square card reader with iphone or ipad?

2012-08-15 Thread Sean Paul
Also, just for a bit of further clarification. I am using the Go Payment
card reader on an iPhone 3GS. However, when I look @ the supported devices
on the help section of the Go Payment App, it does have listed both the
iPhone 4&4S. My wife has an android phone, I can't remember the model number
& it for some reason or another will not work with her phone. So, if we
except credit card payments, I have to be with her as stated, it will not
work with her phone. Any further questions, please feel free to ask. I'll
attempt to answer them as best as I can.

I have not. It would be worth a try. One of the things I'll say about that
is this. The card readers tell you that you have to turn your volume coming
out of your earphone jack all the way up so it might be a little loud in
your ears. &, I wonder if there would be any reduction in the volume which
perhaps would cause the card reader to fail. I do have a headphone splitter

which is from intuit. Who are the same people who make turbo tax.
Yes, it plugs in to the headphone jack which disables voiceover.
However, I plug up my bluetooth headset... & go from there. The App
which comes with it is also totally accessible with VoiceOver as
well. I've considered Square, however, I do not like some of their
fees & other practices. I'm not saying they're a bad company.

2012-08-15 Thread Aman Singer
Hi.
If I may ask, has anyone tried a headphone splitter, whether
purchased or home-made, with either the unit from Go Payment or that from
Square? If so, has it failed to work?
Thanks.

Re: Apple Password Required Whenever Launching Fleksey

2012-08-15 Thread Chris
Yeah, that should fix it, you do not need a password to use this app. In
fact it can even be used in Airplane mode!

On 15/08/2012 03:55, Eileen Misrahi wrote:

Hello All,

While I am waiting for the Fleksey support to respond, I thought I would try
here to see if others have had this issue and how they resolved it. It seems
like I take one step forward and two steps back. With the assistance of the
Fleksey support team, I have been able to upgrade to the current version.
I appreciate any suggestions at this
point. The request for the Apple password keeps appearing after I attempt
to close it out.

Thanks in advance.

Best,

Re: Read2go

2012-08-15 Thread Robin Frost
Hi,
Speaking of read2go can anyone else duplicate a problem I’ve run into with it?
I'm having difficulty with a book within the IPhone app. whenever I attempt to
download The Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits, 9th Edition the download fails
within the app even though i can successfully download the book from the site
itself as if I were going to load it into another type of player. I'm just
curious why I can't successfully bring this book into the read2go app.
thanks for any enlightenment anyone has for this one (smile).
Robin

thanks for your help.

After loading the book, you will find a Read button in the center of the
screen. Press this button, and a phrase will be read. Look for a Play button at
the bottom of the screen. Press this button, and the book will read
continuously.

Thanks.

Subject: Saving text messages

Hi all,
I have a text message that I'd like to save.
Is there some way to copy the body of the message into notes?
I'm using the Braillepen 12 braille display with my iPhone 4s.
Thanks,
Stacey and Chesley
