Fleksy gestures on iphone 5S

2013-12-19 Thread Harry Bell
I have just downloaded the latest version of Fleksy on my iphpne 5S on ios
7.0.4. I used the earlier version a while back on old 3 GS fine - but now none
of the swipe gestures work! I type a word and swipe right and nothing happens.
If I swipe left nothing happens. I have to use the spacebar or delete key to
make things happen. Am I missing something? I do not have voiceover enabled -
should I have it on?
Thanks

Re: disregard standscan but have another question

2013-12-19 Thread Sandratomkins
Hi Kay,
I have seen two such boxes and use one of them regularly. I use the stand scan
pro. As far as the boxes themselves are concerned, there isn't much to choose
between them, in my opinion. However, where things vary and become important is
with regard to lighting. Now, things may have changed with other boxes, but
with the stand ScanPro when you use the Mains connector you get 12 volt
lighting. Plus, when you buy the stand ScanPro you should choose the twelve
volt battery case to go with it. The default in most products is nine volts.
This will work in good lighting situations, but for a guaranteed result
regardless of good lighting, whether you are creating a shadow by accident, or
any other variable, 12 V will ensure a good result. So, I would suggest to you
to go with the stand scan pro plus mains adapter and 12 V battery case. Also,
the stand scan people are putting little stickers with the box which we can
use to easily reposition the phone each time we use it. In this way the stand
ScanPro becomes a doddle!

HTH,
Sandy

Re: Fleksy Alternatives for pre-iOS 7 Users?

2013-12-19 Thread Bill Rappos
Hi all!

Just wanted to let you know that our latest update is rolling out over the
App Store. Here's the changelog:

New:
- iOS 6 support
- Manual capitalization is back: In manual entry mode, flick up after a
letter to change to upper case. Flick down for lower case
- Add twitter handles and emails to the dictionary! With manual entry, type
@fleksy and flick up like normal. Now whenever you type fleksy,
@fleksy will be one of the suggestions.
Similarly, feedbackfleksycom will be corrected to feedb...@fleksy.com

Fixed:
- Tamed the instructional popup
- , ? ! ; : will now be read properly by VO instead of Period
- various bugs and crashes

Hint:
Start your text with:
M @fleksy
and select Tweet from menu to send us a DM :D

Known Issue:
- On iOS 6, Fleksy might stop processing taps properly on app resume when
VO is enabled. Workaround: Quit Fleksy from App Switcher and restart. Your
text will be saved. We are working on a fix for the next update.

Once again, we want to apologize for any inconvenience. We start to rebuild
with this version.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Lucian, Christopher, thanks for following up on the discussion.

I understand your concerns and agree that the switch to iOS 7 did not go
as planned. The unexpected time bomb bug forced our hand before we could
incorporate iOS 6 support for our brand new engine or even communicate the
 change appropriately.

There is, however, reason why our keyboard service is at this time
compatible only with iOS 7. As of today, Fleksy is available as a keyboard
option for third party apps. This means that Fleksy can be integrated at
the application-level of any iOS app. Any developer can incorporate Fleksy
into their app, giving their users the choice to type with Fleksy.

We were able to develop the SDK because of the tools iOS 7 introduced.

However, since last week we made progress in porting the new engine to iOS
6 and have built alpha versions since. Pending a few crashes, we will be
submitting an update for Fleksy to restore functionality for iOS 6 as soon
 as possible.

Once again, thank you fore your patience and understanding!

Fleksy is by no means the only app that predates IOS 7 which is now only
supported on IOS 7. Obviously, a developer would have to spend testing
resources on IOS 6 and IOS 7 if they're going to continue to support both
levels of the operating system. This cost alone may keep a small company
from supporting both operating systems. It's also my understanding that
Apple changes API's from version to version, so it's not a given that
there's no work involved in supporting both IOS 6 and IOS 7.

Apple did take a beating when they rolled out IOS 7 updates automatically
to people whether they upgraded or wanted to upgrade or not, so I'm sure
they'd take a beating in the scenario you described below. This doesn't
mean it isn't a good business idea for Apple to keep moving people up and
for developers to assume everyone is on the latest. This model has
obviously been wildly successful for Apple, and there's a lot of benefits
for Apple, developers and users to all be on the latest and greatest
 software.

keyboard option for third party apps. This means that Fleksy can be
integrated at the application-level of any iOS app. Any developer can
incorporate Fleksy into their app, giving their users the choice to type
with Fleksy.

We were able to develop the SDK because of the tools iOS 7 introduced.

However, since last week we made progress in porting the new engine to
iOS 6 and have built alpha versions since. Pending a few crashes, we
will be submitting an update for Fleksy to restore functionality for iOS
6 as soon as possible.

Once again, thank you fore your patience and understanding!

Fleksy is by no means the only app that predates IOS 7 which is now
only supported on IOS 7. Obviously, a developer would have to spend
testing resources on IOS 6 and IOS 7 if they're going to continue to
support both levels of the operating system. This cost alone may
keep a small company from supporting both operating systems. It's
also my understanding that Apple changes API's from version to
version, so it's not a given that there's no work involved in
supporting both IOS 6 and IOS 7.

Apple did take a beating when they rolled out IOS 7 updates
automatically to people whether they upgraded or wanted to upgrade
or not, so I'm sure they'd take a beating in the scenario you
described below. This doesn't mean it isn't a good business idea for
Apple to keep moving people up and for developers to assume everyone
is on the latest. This model has obviously been wildly successful
for Apple, and there's a lot of benefits for Apple, developers and
users to all be on the latest and greatest software.

Yes I have an iPhone 4 and no, I don't want to upgrade to 7 for
an obvious variety of reasons - and most certainly not because
an app forces me to. What I find absolutely mind-boggling is
that we're talking here about an offline app, that worked very
well thank you on iOS 6 before.

Yes, I did contact Fleksy support and they simply told me that
Fleksy version 1.9 (the last iOS 6 working version) is not
supported anymore. As if they had to!

Yes, there are apps that only work on iOS 7 these days. But they
either started on iOS 7, or they have a backend that no longer
supports the iOS 6 version. As far as I understand, the
technology behind Fleksy is built-in inside the app and does not
require online presence (heck, if a typing app requires you to
be connected to their servers, then something is fishy big time).

So in short I find no excusable justification to what Fleksy
did. They're lucky their service is not high profile and they
don't affect a real lot of paying users. Just think the backlash
that, say, Apple would get if suddenly iTunes would no longer
start on OS X pre-Mavericks, and would give you no option but to
upgrade, even on a 2007 laptop. Luckily for them Fleksy is no
Apple. But at this rate, I don't see them even turning
profitable. What a shame when it's not the technology that
buries you, but poor customer support.

Hats Off to the Fleksy Team

2013-12-19 Thread Alan Lemly
I just want to congratulate the Fleksy team for the improvements to the
latest release (version 2.0.2) and for making it usable once again for those
of us who have not yet upgraded to iOS 7. The app feels snappier and I
especially like the addition of the numbers and symbols keyboards which can
be accessed by a 2-finger swipe to the left. Entering a new line is now done
using a 2-finger swipe down which is also an intuitive improvement in my
opinion.

Those of us using Fleksy with iOS 6 might encounter a bug where the app
freezes and tapping the screen has no impact. If this happens, go to the App
Switcher and remove Fleksy and restart it. That seems to fix the problem.
The developers are aware of this issue and intend to fix it with the next
release.

Thanks for this excellent app and how much easier it makes typing input. It
is definitely my most used app.

Hi,

If you leave it sitting at the setup screen for long enough, it speaks
instructions for turning on vo - it doesn't turn it on automaticly,
but it assumes that the user has a sight problem and that you can't
read the screen so you will need the oppertunity to turn on speech.

To answer your other questions: it doesn't have to be linked with your
Apple ID although more functionality is available if you do so and
yes, every now and again it does receive firmware updates. For
example, the latest one drasticly decreased the quality of the UK
English voice, to the point where I have had to switch to US English

The assumption you make is that everybody loves the app. Personally, I

because somebody thinks it's cool for the blind? Personally, I think the
dictation feature of iOS 7 knocks fleksy out of the ball game.

What would be even better is if Apple allowed other keyboards to be
installed and set as the default. This is going to require the
developer of each app to add these features. On Android for example,
you can set fleksy as your default keyboard and it automatically
appears in any app when entering text.

is a note taking app which uses the Fleksy SDK for that access. So, to
me this is a step forward in the right direction. I hope more developers
continue to do this for those who really like Fleksy. After all, it's
not just a blindness friendly app.

Fleksy Keyboard Makes Its Way To iOS Through Third Party AppsIf there’s
one thing about Android is that it is not as restrictive compared to
iOS. This means that users are able to customize their device to their
liking, sometimes without even having to root their phone. For example
customization could be a change in launchers, or keyboards, or even
changing the default camera/browser app. Well the good news is that it
looks like some of that customization could be headed iOS’ way in the
form of Fleksy keyboard
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/12/fleksy-keyboard-for-android-leaves-beta/.
The app has been available on Android and recently left its beta phase,
but its developers have not stopped there and have released an SDK for
iOS developers.

While Fleksy will not be able to replace all of iOS’ keyboards,
developers now have the option to include the keyboard within their
apps. Speaking to The Verge
http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/12/5201868/fleksy-wants-to-become-your-new-ios-keyboard-everywhere,
Fleksy’s founder, Ioannis Verdelis, was quoted as saying, /“With every
new version of iOS the work required on our part to build a keyboard SDK
has reduced significantly […] We’re [now] doing stuff on iOS that
integrates the keyboard deeper than it’s ever been integrated.” /As it
stands there are a handful of apps that have already integrated Fleksy
into their apps, such as GV Connect, Blindsquare, Wordbox, and Launch.
If you’re wondering what those apps might be like to use with a keyboard
different from the default iOS one, go ahead and check them out.

I never realized the native Clock app had this feature. If I were going to
schedule something for the future, I'd just use the Reminder app or place
an event on my calendar. This does sound like a nice feature, but I guess
the clock app is still as useful as the alarm clock next to my bed, where
I can't set an alarm for the future. If I need to set an alarm to wake up
at a different time, I just need to remember to set it the night before.

 Thanks for your email.

In the new versions of Fleksy, you have to perform all the gestures inside

Re: Setting alarms for future dates in iOS7

2013-12-19 Thread Alan Paganelli
The only thing I can think of is something like setting a repeating alarm
say for Monday through Friday at 6 AM for example and leave Saturday and
Sunday turned off. That would give you the ubiquitous Monday through Friday
schedule and that would repeat until you changed it

Thanks. I really thought I done this in iOS6, perhaps not with Siri but at
least in the Clock app itself. I may be mistaken, though.

and

to consider using a Reminder instead.
I find this not such a big deal, after all, mostly you either have a
recurring alarm if you get up at the same time each weekday, for example,
or
if you need a special alarm then I find it to be fairly normal and
intuitive

to set it the evening before. After all, before we had iPhones and used
regular alarm clocks this is what you would do.

I just had a look and the only option for an alarm that is more than 1
day
ahead is to set a repeating alarm. For example, it's Wednesday now and if
I

want to set an alarm for next Monday at 7 AM I could select 7 AM as the
time, then tap on Repeat, Never and select to repeat the alarm every
Monday. This would set a 7 AM for every Monday and I would just have to
delete or turn off that alarm if I only wanted it once. At best this
would

allow you to set an alarm for up to 6 or 7 days in advance.

If you were concerned you forget to set an alarm the evening before you
needed it you could always tell SIRI to remind you to set the alarm on a
specific day in the future, then when the reminder goes off the evening
before you just hold down the home key and say Wake me up at 6 AM and
it's

done.

Re: Fleksy Keyboard Makes Its Way To iOS Through Third-Party Apps

2013-12-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't see anyone making the assumption that everyone loves Fleksy or
that anyone who doesn't want to should have to learn Fleksy. No one, as
far as I can tell, is proposing that Apple dump it's virtual keyboard
and replace it with Fleksy. All I see hear is that people who do like
Fleksy can make it the default keyboard in some of their apps and maybe
in IOS in the future. Again, this is just adding more flexibility and
choices to IOS and IOS apps. I don't see anything wrong with more choice
and flexibility, and I don't see an issue with people liking and
choosing to use Fleksy. I don't use dictation very often, but I don't
think you're telling me I should use it just because you think it's cool.

On 12/19/2013 10:46 AM, Alan Paganelli wrote:

else comes up with the newest gee-wiz app and are we then expected to
learn that too because somebody thinks it's cool for the blind?
Personally, I think the dictation feature of iOS 7 knocks fleksy out of
the ball game.

What would be even better is if Apple allowed other keyboards to be
installed and set as the default. This is going to require the
developer of each app to add these features. On Android for example,
you can set fleksy as your default keyboard and it automatically
appears in any app when entering text.
Original message:

Hi, I've seen this happen in my favorite Google Voice app called GV
Connect, and it's also available in Blind Square. I believe also there
is a note taking app which uses the Fleksy SDK for that access. So, to
me this is a step forward in the right direction.

Re: Using a braille display with Voice dream?

2013-12-19 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Debbie,

You can use Voice Dream with a braille display, but the experience is much
better in Read2Go. Every few lines, you have to switch screens, and when you
do, first the percentage of progress through teh book is displayed. You have to
wait for it to disappear from the braille display. Then you may see a line or
two that you already saw on the previous screen, or a line or two may be
skipped. So it's fine for checking the spelling of a word or something similar,
but it would be annoying for reading for any length of time.

Best,
Anna

  Hi Kay,
I have seen two such boxes and use one of them regularly. I use the stand
scan pro. As far as the boxes themselves are concerned, there isn't much to
choose between them, in my opinion. However, where things vary and become
important is with regard to lighting. Now, things may have changed with
other boxes, but with the stand ScanPro when you use the Mains connector you
get 12 volt lighting. Plus, when you buy the stand ScanPro you should choose
the twelve volt battery case to go with it. The default in most products is
nine volts. This will work in good lighting situations, but for a guaranteed
result regardless of good lighting, whether you are creating a shadow by
accident, or any other variable, 12 V will ensure a good result. So, I would
suggest to you to go with the stand scan pro plus mains adapter and 12 V
battery case. Also, the stand scan people are putting little stickers with
the box which we can use to easily reposition the phone each time we use it.
In this way the stand ScanPro becomes a doddle!

the box which we can use to easily reposition the phone each time we use it.
In this way the stand ScanPro becomes a doddle!

Hi, Everyone.

I want to change my text tone sound, then need to see if it takes. Am I

tone you want under Settings Sounds, then double tap what you want to use?
Can I send a text message via e-mail to my iPod Touch to see whether it
works?

Hi listers,

I also tried out this app and at first it didn't seem to work. I then
noticed that no matter how dark my space the light on the phone did not come
on. with look tell Money reader the flash comes on when needed so the bill is
identified no matter what the light conditions. Once I moved to a bright area
the app began to work similar to looktel.

I thought it was interesting that it identified the front or back of
the bill but then I realized that I could not imagine when I would actually
need to know this.

Having the app work in all light conditions would be a welcome improvement for
those not using the looktel app.

Re: Fleksy Keyboard Makes Its Way To iOS Through Third-Party Apps

2013-12-19 Thread Eileens Misrahi
now I am going to put my 2 sense in. Talking about choice, if I had my option,
I would make MBraille my default keyboard. So in one sense, I needed to learn
all different dot commands, but it has been well worth it. About 90'% of the
time, I can directly input and access the major functions on the phone. This
may be OT, but it's related to choice and what Apple may do in the future to
allow third-party word processing apps to become part of the mainstream in iOS
devices.

What would be even better is if Apple allowed other keyboards to be
installed and set as the default. This is going to require the
developer of each app to add these features. On Android for example,
you can set fleksy as your default keyboard and it automatically
appears in any app when entering text.

 developers
continue to do this for those who really like Fleksy. After all, it's
not just a blindness friendly app.

Re: New EyeNote

2013-12-19 Thread Andrew J. LaPointe
Hi, I posted a message on the eyenote yesterday. I wan’t able to get anything
out of the app until now. It is obvious to me that there was not enough light
in the room for the eyenote to detect the money value. I just tried it again
and now things are much better with this app. It seems that the money reader
works with less light—sometimes we can’t tell if enough light is present or
enough light is available. I like the eyenote for the fact that you are told
that the bill is the front or back. I don’t know why this would be important
but, you have a choice. The only thing I am not clear with the eyenote is,
there is a single beep or tone for a dollar bill, 3 beeps for a 5 dollar bill 4
for a ten and 5 for $20.00 Am I just stupid orwhy 3 beeps for a 5 and so
on? Thanks, Andy

to wait for it to disappear from the braille display. Then you may see a
line or two that you already saw on the previous screen, or a line or two
may be skipped. So it's fine for checking the spelling of a word or
something similar, but it would be annoying for reading for any length of
time.

Best,
Anna

Thank you for your reply.
Now I have a Read 2 Go question. When you are in a book how do you navigate
to the next page?
I can get to where it says previous page, and next page. I can't figure
out how to get to the next page.
Thank you
If someone can direct me to good documentation for reading with a Braille
display, and Read 2 Go it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: New EyeNote

Whether you're looking at the front or back of the bill is important
when slipping a bill into a vending machine. Some vending machines are
still particular when it comes to how the bill is oriented. I think this
is pointed out in the description of the app.

I just tried it again and now things are much better with this app. It
seems that the money reader works with less light—sometimes we can’t
tell if enough light is present or enough light is available. I like
the eyenote for the fact that you are told that the bill is the front or
back. I don’t know why this would be important but, you have a choice.
The only thing I am not clear with the eyenote is, there is a single

I just want to point out where to go for the settings for Eyenote. In
the native settings app on the phone, there is a submenu link for
Eyenote. Tap on it. By default, show settings is turned off. If one
toggles it on, within the Eyenote app there will be a settings button
that one can select speech, tones, or vibration. This feature use to be

that this app has a choice in privacy when one is out in public. HTH.

Once I moved to a bright area the app began to work similar to looktel.
I thought it was interesting that it identified the front or back of

2013-12-19 Thread Joseph Hudson
Yes I can be done, by the way your subject is very confusing. Because in your
subject you're referring to text tone and then your body of your email you're
wanting to send yourself an email via your PC to save the toners changed. The
only way that you may want to tell the tone is changed, would be if you change
the one that says mail Undersound's and settings. If you change your text tone,
you need to get somebody to send you a iMessage with a nether I device or a Mac.

now I am going to put my 2 sense in. Talking about choice, if I had my
option, I would make MBraille my default keyboard. So in one sense, I needed
to learn all different dot commands, but it has been well worth it. About
90'% of the time, I can directly input and access the major functions on the
phone. This may be OT, but it's related to choice and what Apple may do in
the future to allow third-party word processing apps to become part of the
mainstream in iOS devices.

 Apps

What would be even better is if Apple allowed other keyboards to be
installed and set as the default. This is going to require the
developer of each app to add these features. On Android for example,
you can set fleksy as your default keyboard and it automatically
appears in any app when entering text.

Hi, I've seen this happen in my favorite Google Voice app called GV
Connect, and it's also available in Blind Square. I believe also there
is a note taking app which uses the Fleksy SDK for that access. So, to
me this is a step forward in the right direction. I hope more
 developers
continue to do this for those who really like Fleksy. After all, it's
not just a blindness friendly app.
