Hi Denise,

If that is the case you might want to just delete the Skype app and
redownload it because I have no problem whatsoever. If I sign out of my
account I have 3 buttons:

Sign in with a Skype Name
Sign in with a Microsoft Account
Create a new account

I have merged my Skype Name with my Microsoft account which is my
Outlook.com email address so I use the Sign in with a Microsoft Account
option. Once I double tap on that I have a field for my user Id which is my
Outlook.com email address and the password and everything behaves normally
as far as having the virtual keyboard and typing.

Re: Accessing Spotlight Search in iOS 7, was: Lost Messages App

2014-01-01 Thread Cara Quinn
Just as a quick additional note,

If you are using VoiceOver, you can also simply touch an icon on any home
screen to move VO's focus there, and then do a three-finger flick down. This
will also bring up the search dialogue.

Hope this helps and happy new year!!!

Smiles,

Cara :)

Hi Andy,

In order to get to Spotlight search in iOS 7 you simply double tap and hold on
any app or folder and as soon as you hear the triple tone you flick down.

This is the same double tap and hold you do in order to move apps, but instead
of waiting until you hear Voiceover say “Moving” followed by the name of
whatever app you are on, you flick down immediately after the triple tone.

This is a very easy and cool way to get to Spotlight search because you can do
it from any home screen. You do, however, have to be on a home screen, it does
not work if you are inside a folder or if focus is on an app that is in your
dock.

If you want to get out of Spotlight search you can either press the home key,
do the scrub/back gesture or double tap on the area of the screen where
Voiceover says “Dismiss Search”. That is the entire upper/middle part of the
screen, only on the lower part you have the virtual keyboard and above that the
search field.

RE: creating folders in iOS 7

2014-01-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Tammy,

You just have to move your finger around a bit until you find the sweet spot
and Voiceover says "Will create folder with..."

For example, let's say I want to create a new folder by moving Fleksy on
List Recorder. I double tap and hold on Fleksy until Voiceover says "Moving
Fleksy". I then drag it to List Recorder and Voiceover will say "List
Recorder" as I am starting to drag it on there, but I might just have to
move a bit further into the middle so to speak and then Voiceover will say
"Will create folder with List Recorder". If I let go at that point the
folder will be created.

If you are moving an app onto an existing folder, what you want to listen
for is when Voiceover says "Opening" followed by the folder name.
For example, let's assume I want to move The Clock app into the Utilities
folder and also let's assume my Clock is just to the left of Utilities.
I double tap and hold on the Clock app until Voiceover says "Moving Clock".
Now I slowly drag my finger to the right where I know Utilities is. As I
come on Utilities Voiceover will say "Utilities" and as I slowly drag a bit
further right across at one point it will say "Opening Utilities Folder".
At that point I would let go and the Clock app will go in the Utilities
folder.

If you do this on an iPad you have to drag your finger even further across
an app once it's first announced because of the larger screen.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Okay, I did these things and did get on the timeline. However, there is still
a line that says 147 friends have written on my timeline, and I still am having

Any other suggestions?

Accessing Spotlight Search in iOS 7, was: Lost Messages App

2014-01-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Andy,

In order to get to Spotlight search in iOS 7 you simply double tap and hold
on any app or folder and as soon as you hear the triple tone you flick down.

This is the same double tap and hold you do in order to move apps, but
instead of waiting until you hear Voiceover say "Moving" followed by the
name of whatever app you are on, you flick down immediately after the triple
tone.

This is a very easy and cool way to get to Spotlight search because you can
do it from any home screen. You do, however, have to be on a home screen, it
does not work if you are inside a folder or if focus is on an app that is in
your dock.

If you want to get out of Spotlight search you can either press the home
key, do the scrub/back gesture or double tap on the area of the screen where
Voiceover says "Dismiss Search". That is the entire upper/middle part of the
screen, only on the lower part you have the virtual keyboard and above that
the search field.

Regards,

Sieghard

Re: creating folders in iOS 7

2014-01-01 Thread Tammy Freitag
Ok, I'm a bit baffled. I have attempted to move some of my aps to
make a folder. VO will tell me that I have the (example) Walgreens ap
on top of the Target ap but, it will not create a folder. I have
several other aps that I have moved onto an ap but again, it doesn't
create a folder. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am running
VO 7.4 on a 4S.
Thanks so much!

Maybe it got moved into another folder or home page or the dock.

If you're using VoiceOver, you can search for apps by switching to handwriting
mode on your home page and start writing the name of the app you're looking
for. For example, when I write the letter 'm' I get nine apps that start with
the letter 'm'.

To bring up the traditional spot light search, just do a three finger swipe
down on a home page. Note I had to look this one up on Google myself.

While on the Facebook application, there will be a more tab on the bottom right
corner. Double tap that then on the upper left side of the corner you will see
your name. Double tap on that as well. Then you will be on your profile wall or
timeline whatever they call it. So just begin to swipe and slide and once you
want to interact with a status simply double tap on it

Netatmo - successfully setup 2 additional inddor modules

2014-01-01 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

For those of you who may use, or are considering to acquire, the Netatmo
weather station, I just wanted to let you know that I purchased 2 additional
inddor modules, and was able to set them up without sighted assistance (though
Sieghard provided some useful guidance!).

I am quite pleased that I now can monitor 3 different locations within our home
for temperature, and the outdoor temperature as well. We only have 2 zone
controls in our house, for 3 living areas, and it's sometimes a juggling act to
try to figure out what's going on when one person is cold, another is hot, and
yet another feels the temperature is fine. The information generated by these
independent monitors, and easily accessible on my iPhone 5, is really valuable
to me.

Best, Keith

airplay receivers for existing speaker docks

2014-01-01 Thread Brent Harding
Hi there. An article came up here about the Auris Skye, which will be a
small device you dock in your speaker system that has the old 30-pin
connector. I thought about preordering it, but I looked around on Google and
found a couple others I could get now, and not take the risk of preorder
uncertainty. These are the Dolry from C4 Electronics, and one called Lario
that was suggested on the former's listing on Amazon, which is about $20
cheaper than the Dolry or Skye. Has anyone tried any of these? I wonder what
one would be getting in the more expensive dolry and future Skye that would
make the Lario not as good? It doesn't appear from their descriptions that
much is different, but am wondering if anyone has tried them, and what they
thought of them.

Facebook Question

2014-01-01 Thread Keith Bundy
First of all, I want to wish everyone on the list a wonderful 2014! I am
using the native Facebook app with the latest IOS on the iPhone 5. I have
had no issues with the app, but one question has arisen today.

It happens to be my birthday, and, in my notifications, it says that 141
friends have written on my timeline. However, double tapping on this does
nothing except select it, and double tapping with two fingers gives me the
options to hide, copy link to post, orcancel.

Does anyone know of a way that I can read and interact with these 141
notifications? Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, now there are 3 games. None of which is accessible. Still, I download

them. I figure, if I don't like them, I can delete them and I'm still out
nothing. I don't know about the travel book because I haven't even had time

to open it but at the very least, I got a free movie out of it so that's
worth it even if nothing else is and we're only half way through. So, bring

it on! I love free! My favorite price! LOL!

Yes, you can go back, but you would need to know the name of the missed app.

I just downloaded the movie Hugo. It was still Free.

Apparently I missed a day when a game was given away. I remember someone
saying that their was 2 games. I remember seeing the chore game app.

Re: why an ipad mini?

2014-01-01 Thread Joanne Chua
Hi,
It depends on what you want to do with the iPad. If you have some sight, iPad
is good for you to use your sight to navigate around, watch videos or see
photos, and reading a book if you require larger fon or wider space.
If you are totally blind, then, the different will be the screen size. Also,
there are apps that is only available for the iPad that is not available on the
iPhone or iPod.
As far as the reading experience is concern, if you are totally blind, there is
not much different. you get more paragraphs on one page for the ipad than you
will get for the iphone.

It's also possible you don't have enough free space to extract the books. You

I think that it's great that Apple is doing this. They could be like so
many others and give you 0. Some will be happy, some won't and some would
complain even if you hung them with a new rope because they like the sound

Everybody has different tastes. I don't think I'd ever recommend or pan
something simply because i loved it or didn't love it. That would be like
arguing about which food is the best or which is the best way to die. 12
days has a lot of wide-ranging offers, which is a good thing, since not
everyone would want only action movies or only documentaries, etc.

I missed a couple of days, and it doesn't seem to let you get the gifts

As Billy said, it’s been mentioned a few times, they started out with a
welcome gift so to speak before Christmas and it was a song by Lorde, the

As for your statement, Billy, I don’t think downloading and taking
advantage of the gifts offered depends on your version of iOS.

Lastly, not being impressed by the gifts is subjective, there maybe only
1 or 2 in the collection you like or maybe there are more or maybe there
are none. But, as the saying goes, you don’t look a gift horse

RE: New iPad mini, and loving it!

2014-01-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Jordan,

Go to Settings, Notification Center. Each app is listet here, you can double
tap on the apps and then specify if you want a particular app to be included
in Notification Center, which style of Notification you want (Banner or
Alert) and whether you want the Notification to also appear on the lock
screen. This is actually identical to iOS 6 if I remember correctly.

In addition there is a Setting in the Accessibility Settings under Voiceover
which says "Speak Notifications in Lock Screen". You can turn that off as
well although if you disable to have any notifications displayed in the lock
screen this should not be a problem.

reading a book, or Kindle and the notification totally interrupts my
flow! Secondly, how do i get rid of push notifications altogether?
I have a couple of bloomberg apps which love to duplicate! Aside
from those minor annoyances, which are IOS 7 and not iPad, or perhaps
even user idiocy, the iPad was one awesome purchase.
