Re: Question about Google voice
Hi there. After May 15 this year Google voice will disable XMPP access to it services. This will affect many third-party apps which use it, but not all of them. Currently the best app that I know of to work with Google voice is called GV connect. They do have their own app for the service, but I do think it is flaky at best. The biggest change for Google voice users is for those that use apps like talk atone or the OB talk phone bridge boxes to have free home phone service without paying for it. However there is a solution for those types of users that cost $35 per year for unlimited incoming calls and 300 minutes about going calls. There is also another one which is costing $60 a year which includes unlimited incoming and outgoing calls. They will even set up your Google voice number as the outgoing caller ID so if a lot of people have that number they won't have to worry about learning a new number for you. As for using the Google voice number for things like text messaging and other things, Google voice will migrated into their hangouts platform which is currently not very voice over friendly. I do not know if this will still continue to work correctly on the website. So that is pretty much what there is to know about Google voice. --- Sent from Raul's rectangular glass - 832.554.7285 Please excuse any auto complete or dictation weirdness. RE: Comverting a mp3 to an m4r file
Graham, These instructions are for iTunes 11.1 for Windows but I assume the Mac iTunes has similar capability. 1. Open iTunes and go to Preferences. In Windows iTunes, you can hotkey to it by pressing ctrl + a comma. 2. The first tab on the dialog which opens is General and it contains an Import Settings button which can be opened by pressing alt + o in the Windows world. 3. The first drop-down box is Import Using and should be set to AAC encoder. 4. The next drop-down is the Setting option for the quality of the recording and I'd recommend iTunes Plus or you could customize the settings to get a higher quality. 5. List the mp3 files you'd like to convert by searching for them. 6. If you're wanting to convert them to m4r which is the ringtone or alert tone format, you'll need to limit the length to 40 seconds or 5 seconds, respectively. I'm not going to detail how to do this since you didn't ask about it in your post. 7. Highlight the mp3 song you'd like to convert from the list and from the context menu, select Create AAC version. 8. The converted song should be listed immediately below the source song in the list. 9. Find the song using the Mac file manager and rename it from its m4a name to an m4r name. 10. When you highlight the renamed m4r song and execute it, it should be added to your iTunes library and placed in the Ringtones or Tones folder. I apologize if any of the above instructions aren't accurate for the Mac world but since I've never used a Mac, I don't know how the instructions might vary. Good luck. You have to go into the settings within the Voice Dream app and activate Bookshare and enter your credentials there. You won't ever have to enter your credentials again after that. Re: Question about Google voice
Where do I go to learn more about the $60 unlimited plan you mentioned? -Original Message- From: Raul A. Gallegos Sent: Sunday, April 06, 2014 5:02 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Question about Google voice Hi there. RE: Selecting text, no good
Hi David. Yes, the select pinch works, but when I want to copy, is no edit in the rotor. How I am going to tell voice over that what I selected has to be copy, if this tool doesn’t appear in the rotor? It is exactly my problem. I select text with the pinch gesture, but when I want to copy it, is no copy or edit in the rotor. Maybe I am missing something, but I understand that after select something, I need to select what operation I want to do with this text selected. Of course, if it is on a web site, or on an app, the choices will be only copy, but where is copy in the rotor? How can I copy something if the edit function is no in the rotor? Is there a way to not have your home team listed first in the game broadcast listing on the Apple TV?
Hi. I called MLB about this, but they didn't understand what I was wanting to do. I am accessing the audio broadcasts of MLB on my Apple TV. In the list of games, the Reds, my home team, are always shown first. I'd like to change this so that I don't have a favorite team or home team. The reason I'd like to do this is that the list of games changes order, listing the current games that are playing at the beginning. In my list, no matter if the Reds are currently playing, have finished, or haven't started yet, they are always the first team on the list. Anybody know how to change this behavior so that the Reds aren't the first team in the list? It's not a big deal, it just would be nicer for me, and it's just a preference that I have. Thanks in advance for help, if anybody can figure out what to do. GO REDS and GO CATS! iphone speaker not turning off after using dictation
I know it has been discussed on the list before about the iphone speaker sometimes not turning off. But, until my battery usage time did go down a bit when upgrading to iOS 7.1, I hadn't noticed the problem with my iphone 4S speaker. But, now, even after the phone has been locked for several minutes, I find myself often being able to hear the humming noise, if you will, from the speaker whenever I would put the speaker end of the phone up to my ear. I played around with things a bit, and am able to duplicate this every time I've tried. Meaning, if I use the dictation feature, say to search for something on the iPhone or to dictate a text message, then the speaker just doesn't shut off once I've pressed the lock button. And, the only way I've found to fix this, short of rebooting the phone, is to use Siri to turn off VoiceOver, and then turn VoiceOver back on with Siri or the triple click home. Now, just using Siri, doesn't cause this speaker problem. But, once it does occur, I do need to use Siri to turn off VoiceOver to fix it, as for some reason using the triple click home to turn it off doesn't stop the speaker noise. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: Question about Google voice
Hi login to your obitalk portal. Then choose approved service providers. You will find a link there to two of them which are offering Google voice and obitalk users a discounted promotion rate. The one I mentioned is from a company called phone power. The plans are either 34.95 per year or 59.95 per year and that includes all 911 recovery and other regulatory fees. I already helped two of my clients in switching to the phone power offer. They will ask you if you want to port your Google voice number over or use one of their own. In both cases they chose to get a new number from phone power. Then you can add that new number into your call forwarding section of Google voice. Phone power will also spoof the caller ID so when you make outgoing calls it will appear to come from your Google voice number. This way you do not have to give everybody a new number. It sounds a bit complicated but is really easy. Their website is very friendly to navigate as well. In order to take advantage of the phone power offer for $34.95 or $59.95 per year you have to go through your OBIT talk portal. --- Sent from Raul's rectangular glass - 832.554.7285 Please excuse any auto complete or dictation weirdness. Re: another Mobile Share question
Hello Vicky. When you use that code you will get a text message that house you the date of your billing cycle so that you know how many days are left, the amount that your own devices used, and the amount the entire plan has use. It will not tell you the amount of any other devices on it. I hope this answers your question. For example, I have six devices on my plan. I have 10 GB of monthly shared data. If I have used 2 GB on my phone, the text message will tell me the date of my next cycle, it will tell me that my device has used 2 GB and then the amount of gigabytes total for everyone else. --- Sent from Raul's rectangular glass - 832.554.7285 Please excuse any auto complete or dictation weirdness. There are several bluetooth headphones and ear pieces that work well. You first have to determine whether you want a pair of headphones, so you can listen to music in stereo, as well as make calls, or an ear piece that fits over one ear only, which is good mainly for making calls or listening to spoken word programs. At the end of each message from this group is a link to search the archives. The archives of this list are quite extensive, and are a valuable information resource. Click that link, and enter bluetooth headphones or bluetooth ear piece into the search box, and see what it finds. In the mean time, others may post suggestions for good models. Re: charging iDevice on car.
Sorry if I missed this answer, but I just use a DC to USB adapter that plugs into a car's cigarette lighter or power port and has a USB connection on it. I just plug my iPhone into this with the USB cable that comes with an iPhone. You can get these anywhere; they don't cost very much and I've collected a handful of these over the years. Re: Yet another calendar alternative - sunrise
I'm glad to hear that the Sunrise app is more accessible now. I tried it the first time I heard it raved about on Life Hacker, and it wasn't very accessible. I notified the developer at the time, but I haven't gone back to check to see if it's accessibility has improved. Like I said, it's good to hear that it has. On 04/04/2014 06:50 PM, Raul A. Gallegos wrote: Hello all. The other day I was reading Twitter feeds from Lifehacker and came across an entry which talks about good alternative calendars to the iOS device. They mentioned fantastical, which of course has been discussed on this list recently. However, the one they are promoting right now is an app called sunrise. It is free where as fantastical is not. And the things you get with it are very good considering it is a free app. I downloaded the app and connected it with my Facebook and Google calendars. The process was very easy and so far the app is very voiceover friendly. The only area so far I have seen that it is not friendly is when you have multiple things to choose, when you double tap voiceover does not indicate the item is selected. I plan on writing the developer to let them know about this. When you are in the calendar view of the app, setting your rotor to headings and then flicking up or down will move your day by day. I am sure there are more things to this app that I have not yet discovered. However I wanted to pass this along to the list in case others have more time than I do and can figure out things before I can. No sound allerts for mail on my iPhone 4S

Re: more about How do I get calendar event entries to play a sound
Hello, Neal. I looked through the messages from this list and did not see that you had gotten a reply. If I understand correctly, you wish for an alert sound to notify you of appointments? I do not remember what all you tried, but maybe, this will help you? I apologise if you’ve done this already. Here is a suggestion of steps: 1. Double tap settings 2. Double tap Mail, contacts, calendars. 3. Go to the heading for calendars. It is the next to last heading in that group. I do a 4-finger tap at the bottom of the screen then use 1 finger to swipe up twice, using the rotor, set to navigate by heading until the word ‘calendars is spoken. 4. Swipe right until you hear ‘default alert times,’ then activate that button. 5. Once there, you have different choices, such as, birthdays, events, and all-day events. Double tap on the one you want, e.g. events. 6. Then choose from: none, at time of event, 5 minutes before, 15 minutes before, 30 minutes before, 1 hour before, 2 hours before, 1 day before, 2 days before, and 1 week before. hth Cheers, Candie From: Neal Ewers Sent: Thursday, April 03, 2014 2:02 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: more about How do I get calendar event entries to play a sound In addition to my actions reported in the last message, I have show in notification center on.
