Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately, your message is unclear to me. Are you

Re: iTunes Non-Accessibility - Was: Is there an app that copies mp3 files from dropbox to the iPhone

2014-04-11 Thread Christopher J Chaltain
Is the problem with total deterministic use an accessibility issue or
just an issue with the application?

I wouldn't judge Apple too harshly based on how much effort they put
into making an application running on a competitors platform accessible.
They do this to sell more iPhones and not to help more people buy PC's.
I know many don't agree with me, but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple
stops supporting iTunes on the PC altogether. You don't need iTunes
nearly as much as you used to to use your iPhone. Furthermore, you could
always just buy a Mac, and I think people will be making their
laptop/desktop choices more on how they interact with their other
devices than the other way around.

On 4/11/2014 7:56 AM, Bill Gallik wrote:
I have to agree with Simon on this; I find iTunes terribly
inaccessible in the matter of total deterministic use. That is, I
cannot fully control what iTunes is doing to my iPhone 5. As a
result, I end up with several instances of contact individual records
appearing on my iPhone and similar such annoyances.
But then, of course, I am running an outdated version of JAWS (10.???)
and am using Windows Vista as my OS. I would hope that is the root
cause of the iTunes inaccessibility because I find Apple to be very
responsive to the special needs of the VIP community.

I would beg to disagree, as there are a number of things I haven't

to transfer what I want from my pc to my Iphone, with out it
wanting to spend ages doing other stuff that I don't want it to do

Hi Neil and Cheryl,

There is no way to get music or other content on the iPhone
without jailbreaking. Yes, you can put music into a Dropbox
folder and the Dropbox app will actually play music files or
there are any number of apps which might do so and which you
can use to play music.

Personally I would advise your friend to deal with iTunes if
she wants to get the most out of her iPhone or other iDevice.
I think there are still people who have this perceived fear of
iTunes and that it’s not very accessible whereas in fact it is
very accessible and just a matter of learning. I sometimes
wonder about all the hoops people jump through to do something
which would be much easier with iTunes.

vlc does this and I think it also plays from dropbox directly
but I think you can only then play one song at a time rather
than continuously and I have also had some crashing problems
but more with uploaded music than with playing from dropbox
directly.

btw vlc will also upload files from your computer by wifi but
it is these files I have had some problems with.

If you plug in the Square Card Reader and then turn on your Bluetooth headset
sound should come through the headset. This works with any wired headset so it
should also work with anything else you plug into the headset.

For example, if you listen with a Bluetooth headset or Bluetooth speaker and
plug in a wired headset, then the sound switches to the wired headset. However,
if you turn off your Bluetooth headset or speaker while the wired headset is
plugged in and then turn it on again, sound switches back to the Bluetooth
device.

RE: Square Card Reader

2014-04-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you plug in the Square Card Reader and then turn on your Bluetooth headset
sound should come through the headset. This works with any wired headset so it
should also work with anything else you plug into the headset.

For example, if you listen with a Bluetooth headset or Bluetooth speaker and
plug in a wired headset, then the sound switches to the wired headset. However,
if you turn off your Bluetooth headset or speaker while the wired headset is
plugged in and then turn it on again, sound switches back to the Bluetooth
device.

Regards,

Sieghard

RE: App Update on Phone- what about iTunes on PC?

2014-04-11 Thread Alan Lemly
If you don't sync your phone to your computer using iTunes, the apps
obtained through your phone have no way of getting to the computer and will
become outdated. The various versions of an app are named containing the
version number in the filename so that any synced to your computer should be
in the Mobile Applications subfolder.

Is it possible to select text by Heading, or any other way that is more than just by line?

2014-04-11 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I'm trying to select text for copy, but it's a long article and repeated
pinches apparently are inconsistent on my part and I can't get through the
article without an error that removes earlier selected lines.

Any advice for slecting large chunks of text will be appreciated.

Thanks. Keith

Re: Be cautious updating Lire (was "Re: Be cautious updating Leri")

2014-04-11 Thread Craig Werner
Lire (not Leri) is an RSS reader. The iOS 7 update released today is
crashing when some users attempt to open it. There is a report on
AppleVis that the app does not crash if it is deleted and
re-installed. Perhaps it would be better to wait for an update from
its developer, Kunal Sood.

A Voiceover accessible rss app. I went ahead and corrected the spelling in
the subject line too. The way my screen reader was saying it, I kept on
wondering what was wrong with poor larry and why did we need to be cautious
of him?

Re: Be cautious updating Leri

2014-04-11 Thread Alex Hall
Just an update to this. According to @LireApp on Twitter, the problem has been
fixed. Now the update just needs to get through Apple's screening and it will
be live. If you updated already, just wait for the fix. if you haven't updated
yet, don't.

Re: Problem with phone need help please

2014-04-11 Thread Richard Turner
Hi,
Are you double tapping on the listen button with one finger?
The two taps have to be within a half second of each other.
Also, the triple tap with three fingers has to be done quickly with no more
than a half second between taps.
When you hold down the home button to activate Siri, there are two quick beeps.
Start talking immediately.
If you hear two higher pitched beeps, then Siri is done listening.

Richard

please HELP EXPLAIN

2014-04-11 Thread Andrew J. LaPointe
I sent a message to a friend of mine and she sent back a reply. There were
words that I can’t write here but, there were 4 letter words that I would of
never sent to her. Can someone explain how this happened? I have an Iphone 4s
with os7. This happened to another message I sent her about a month ago and
this never happens to anyone else. I send many text messages to my kids, wife,
and other people I associate with. I would never write this language to
anyone. I use SIRI dictating all my messages and I always review everything
before sending. It never gives me a review other than what I dictate to SIRI..
 How could that happen? Andy

RE: Problem with phone need help please

2014-04-11 Thread Lois Butterfield
Screen curtain on means that your screen is blacked out so no one can see
it.

If you hear 2 beeps and listen, that means that to talk to Siri, you need to
double tap the listen button. If you here one beep, you should talk.

Hope this helps a bit.

Lois

I'm trying, but I didn't succeed yet. What does it mean screen curtain on?
In reference to siri, is normal that after the 2 beeps I hear listen button?

In any case, at this moment siri is not making the call I ask her.
Thank you,

It says screen curtain on. You need to triple tap anywhere with three
fingers on the screen. I do this by drawing a letter l in Braille if
that helps. So it's like typing l, l, l. To use Siri you press and hold
the home button and not tap the listen button. Once you hear the two
beeps talk to your phone like you would a real assistant. That's how
Siri works.

Hello Rena, when screen curtains turned on that means that nobody can see your
screen to turn this off do a three finger double tap in that wall turn off the
screen curtain. And as for your other problem I think that you may need to
check with Apple on this because I have not seen this happen on an iPhone where

Mophie Juice Pack

One positive change I've noticed thus far is that the mute button on my phone
remains in the unmuted state. Prior to this, it was constantly changing.
Perhaps because of the design of this case and the way the phone fits into it,
it appears more snug and less prone to the buttons being bumped and altered.

Hi Mike, Sherrie and Paul,

Thanks very much fore your helpful responses. I charged my unit twice just to
see how it worked. On one occasion, the phone became warm, on the other
occasion, it didn't. I was going to ask about this, but it was already
addressed by Sherrie. Anyway, I think I'll try the method of running the
battery down to 20% and then activate the Juice Pack. Thanks.

  Hi all,

Does anyone know how to dictate punctuation other than the comma or period.
What could we use for exclamation or question marks. When I try to dictate
those, of course, it writes the words rather than putting in the punctuation.
Anyone know how to get around this?

2014-04-11 Thread Sherrie
According to the manual leaving the phone in charging mode uses up more
battery so you do not get the maximum benefit from the juice pack. I don't
like leaving mine on charge until it is needed because the phone gets rather
warm when charging and I carry it in a pocket.
But either way it is very useful these days with the battery issues that
came with the last upgrade.

I usually keep mine on all the time. So, your phone will show 100
percent battery until the juice pack's battery is used up, then it will
begin to use its own battery. Some users like to use the iphone battery
and switch on the juice pack when the iphone battery needs to recharge,
either way it ends up the same, your battery life is extended quite a bit.

I purchased the Mophie for my iPhone 5S yesterday. The one I bought is
supposed to provide up to 120% additional battery life. At what point is
it optimal to turn on the Mophie for use? I assume I'll never see a
number of 120%? Does this mean that up to 120 percent is available before
the unit requires charging? Thanks.

RE: Is there an app that copies mp3 files from dropbox to the iPhone

2014-04-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Bill,

PhoneDrive is still a sandboxed app which means whatever you upload to it is
available in the PhoneDrive app but you can’t, for example, upload music via
PhoneDrive which then is available to your Music app on the iPhone. You can
play the music with the PhoneDrive app since it has a built-in music player,
but really so does Dropbox. Here is what is said about uploading files in the
PhoneDrive app description:

- EASY FILE UPLOAD:
Drag and drop files upload via your PC/Mac web browser or USB via iTunes.

So yes, you can make all sorts of files available to PhoneDrive, it supports
images, PDF, text files, Word documents, music files etc. but they are only
available to PhoneDrive and as it says, if you connect your iPhone to the
computer it is “USB via iTunes” which means you have to use iTunes File
Sharing. There just is no way to access the iPhone’s internal folder structure
via Windows Explorer and I can’t see this changing any time soon.

Sieghard

This is specifically for use with vlc. For example, you will not find music

dropbox directly.

btw vlc will also upload files from your computer by wifi but it is these files

Subject: Accessible grilling app

Hello All:
I thought that I would write and tell you all about something I found today.
There is a free app called iGrill from iDevices. This app will help you
determine internal temperature of meats in your oven, grill or smoker. The
app is free, however, the probes for use with the app are for a fee. The
newest product iGrill 2 is coming out in May and has a cost of $99.99. Yes,
I know that seems like a lot, but to have safe meats on a grill or smoker it
is worth it. This device comes with two meat probes for grilling or smoking
two meats at a time. They go into the meat while it is on the grill or
smoker and use bluetooth technology to transfer readings to your iphone via
the app. This iGrill 2 can have up to four probes (it comes with two) and
you can purchase additional probes. You can also purchase a probe that will
tell you the ambient temperature of the device you are using to cook (smoker
for example). If you do a lot of grilling and smoking as we do, this is a
great tool. I did double check with the developer prior to purchase and it
is accessible with voiceover. Hope this helps someone else.

Braille inconsistencies With Voice dream Reader

2014-04-11 Thread Teresa Cochran
hi, all,

i have a very long rtf file that I've opened in Voice dream Reader. I primarily
use Braille, but will sometimes use speech. When I read in this file with my
Focus 40 Blue display, I press the right-rocker-bar to change pages
horizontally. This works for a few pages, then the text seems to lose focus.
Oddly, the only way I can get it back is to scroll a vertical page. I've tried
it the other way around, and the text still loses focus. Are there optimum
settings for using Braille with VDR? Barring this, is there an app that will
recognize rtf files and keep my place?

thanks,
teresa

Re: Accessible Crosswords App

2014-04-11 Thread andy
Hi, all. I hope I'm not breaching the group's etiquette by bumping this
rather old topic but I just wanted to let you know that I've just released
an update to Four Down that adds a feature that a number of VoiceOver users
have asked me for. They were looking for a way to make it easier for them
to build up a mental picture of the grid. To help with this, I've added a
setting that you can turn on to have the locations on the grid described
using rows and columns. For example, with the setting enabled, it will say
"Row 1, Column 2. 1 across" rather than just "1 across".

For the really keen puzzlers among you, the update also adds the option to
buy a further 24 puzzles via in-app purchase.

I hope you're continuing to enjoy Four Down. Please let me know if there's
anything more I can do to improve the app.

Thanks,
Andy

Hello friends,

I have set up my IPhone to use my ~Gmail account and this works fine.
As i have not used the Gmail account for a very long time, there are a huge
amount of messages built up that I don't really want.
I can go to the inbox and move up and down the messages etc but I can't seem
to find a way to delete them all, can anyone advise me please?
In the inbox list of messages, there seem to be some buttons at the bottom
of the screen e.g. mark all etc but I can't seem to find a delete button.
I seem to be able to open an email then click edit and delete?

Many thanks in anticipation for any help,, it would be really good to get my
phone and Gmail sorted.

  Hi,

this app can be had for free today. Does anyone know if it is accessible or
not? Sure could use its functions if it is.

iTunes Non-Accessibility - Was: Is there an app that copies mp3 files from dropbox to the iPhone

2014-04-11 Thread Bill Gallik
I have to agree with Simon on this; I find iTunes terribly inaccessible in the
matter of total deterministic use. That is, I cannot fully control what iTunes
is doing to my iPhone 5. As a result, I end up with several instances of
contact individual records appearing on my iPhone and similar such annoyances.

But then, of course, I am running an outdated version of JAWS (10.???) and am
using Windows Vista as my OS. I would hope that is the root cause of the
iTunes inaccessibility because I find Apple to be very responsive to the
special needs of the VIP community.

I would beg to disagree, as there are a number of things I haven't been able
to get poxy iTunes to do. the main one being getting it to transfer what I want
from my pc to my Iphone, with out it wanting to spend ages doing other stuff
that I don't want it to do as well. it has given me no end of aggravation!

Hi Neil and Cheryl,

There is no way to get music or other content on the iPhone without
jailbreaking. Yes, you can put music into a Dropbox folder and the Dropbox app
will actually play music files or there are any number of apps which might do
so and which you can use to play music.

Personally I would advise your friend to deal with iTunes if she wants to
get the most out of her iPhone or other iDevice. I think there are still people
who have this perceived fear of iTunes and that it’s not very accessible
whereas in fact it is very accessible and just a matter of learning. I
sometimes wonder about all the hoops people jump through to do something which
would be much easier with iTunes.

vlc does this and I think it also plays from dropbox directly but I think
you can only then play one song at a time rather than continuously and I have
also had some crashing problems but more with uploaded music than with playing
from dropbox directly.

btw vlc will also upload files from your computer by wifi but it is these
files I have had some problems with.

This is specifically for use with vlc. For example, you will not find music
uploaded with vlc listed when you open the music app that comes with the
IDevice.

From what I understand this may not be accurate. VLC clearly says that it
downloads to your iPhone and also a wifi connection can be used so that music
is uploaded. When I did this it was clear that space was being taken up on my
actual iPhone. I certainly could somehow be mistaken and I am not meaning to be
argumentative or adamant but that is how the documentation appears to me.

Re: Mac, iPhone user seeks advice on iPad purchase

2014-04-11 Thread Chris Apple boy
Ditto. I have an iPad mini here on charge and love it. However I still
use my Pc and Macbook but it's in combination with my iOS products
rather than instead of.

Subject: Mac, iPhone user seeks advice on iPad purchase

I've been a Mac user since 2008, switching over from a Windows-based
system. Soon thereafter, I got an iPod Touch, which was followed by an
iPhone. I'm an Apple guy, through and through. Happily.

My question: I've been thinking about adding an iPad to the mix. Are there
folks out there who've been down a similar road who have found, at the end
of the day, that they don't much use their iPad? There's stuff I use my
MacBook Air for -- most of what I do, in fact -- but lots of other uses I
have for my iPhone. I've imagined that an iPad might sort of be an
in-between device, its larger screen (and extended keyboard) allowing me
more flexibility for writing, etc.

Am I being foolish to think this? Or have folks who've been used to a Mac
and an iPhone found that an iPad is a useful addition?

I'd like to get one, but I don't want to waste my money if it wouldn't make
sense.

Thanks for any help you might give me with this.

Many thanks in anticipation for any help,, it would be really good to get my
phone and Gmail sorted.

apple IDs and authorizing computer

2014-04-11 Thread Pablo Morales
Hi all.

When I authorize a computer with my apple id, later I need that someone else
connect their iPad or iPhone to this computer, so I go to deauthorize this
computer, and iTunes sign out of my apple account, so the other person has
to authorize this computer with their apple id?

In both cases the libraries are empty, it is just an exercise. I need to
sign in many people, so each person is going to use their apple account, and
create their own configuration using their apple id. Please don't worry
about libraries, I have this part under control. My problem is just when I
authorize a computer and someone else needs to use their apple id. iTunes
doesn't want to deauthorize my computer and later authorize the same
computer for some body else.

Thanks
