Feliciano's comments are strongly echoed by Jeff Yeiger, who calls
himself the ultimate cheapskate. buying old technology is not a money
saving strategy because it becomes obsolete much quicker. Apple
supports
iOS devices for only four or five years. the discount for last year's
iPhone is just $100, which is not 20 percent of the cost of a new
iPhone. This all means the discount for last year's model doesn't
exceed the depreciation costs.

Where money can be saved with iPhones is in the upgrade cycle. A lot
can be saved by delaying an upgrade for a year or two. Also, choosing
a discount carrier or service rather than a high end post paid service
can save a lot of money. the cost savings can actually cover the cost
of a new iPhone after only about six months.

Re: App Switcher Closing Running Apps

I'm behind but I don't see how that gains anything in efficiency.
Whether you close one or several apps, a three-finger swipe up closes them

Subject: App Switcher Closing Running Apps

I'm using iOS 7.1.2 (worked this way in all versions of 7?); possibly in
prior iOS versions as well, but I just stumbled on this in 7.

When I focus on a running app, I'm informed to do a 3-finger swipe up to
close the app -- that works fine, but I've discovered a much more efficient
method to close an app if there are a number of open apps you may wish to
close at that time.

Here's how to close a number of running apps quite efficiently:
- press the HOME button twice to launch app switcher
- focus on any given app you wish to close
- execute a one-finger swipe down (should change action from default to
close)
- do a one-finger double tap to close this app
- to close additional apps, simply focus on said app and do the one-finger
double tap

It seems that the one-finger swipe down changes the action for all apps from
default (open) to close so do not tap an app you want to continue having
open.

Curious on PC change to Imap to use on Iphone also?

2014-07-19 Thread Gerardo Corripio

 HI guys
Sorry for the subject line but I can't think of a better way to put the
subject. The deal is that before getting my Iphone in July of 2012, I
used GMail on Pop3 with Outlook, or when on XP, Outlook Express, and
really liked the setup. I tried using the same setup when days after
geting my Iphone, but found it tiresome to when deleted tons of EMail on
my phone, go to my PC and delete them all over again! thus changed to
thunderbird since it uses Imap like on the Iphone. So my question is, if
I were to change again to Pop3 on my PC, and the Iphone uses Imap, how
do you guys handle the task before-mentioned of not being able to delete
EMail on one or the other? I liked using EMail via Imap on the PC,
because it saves time by being able to delete EMails on the phone, and
when being on the PC, only read the interesting ones, but Thunderbird
lately has been behaving kind of weird!

Hi, Donna,

I've tried that process, but can't activate the link. I did discover that you
can do a two-finger-double-tap, and a context menu comes up. It has share,
like, comment, and more. Voiceover crashes when I press the more item.

Re: Curious on PC change to Imap to use on Iphone also?

Hi,

Outlook / outlook express supports iMap, so if you're thinking of

really liked the setup.

It sounds like you might have the same set up to me cable cards from your

person help me to make sure to go to audio and change my preferred audio to
secondary audio programming when available and still nothing has ever
recorded with described video. Any clue if I am missing a step? I am in NYC
so it is definitely being aired in SAP, and I have looked at the ACB list of
programs currently being aired with DV but still nothing, and this happened
on both Time Warner Cable and Verizon FIOS did you have to do anything else
to receive the feeds? I have spent hours on the phone with Time Warner, then
Verizon and Tivo and still don't have an answer to why I am not getting it.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

couldn't just have someone turn it on and leave it is because of channel 11.
During their programming that doesn't come from Fox, they play a continuous
loop on the SAP describing the feature and to return to main audio to hear
the programming. If you do have to do that from the remote, is it fairly
easy to toggle that setting? I heard that some of the remotes are
programmable, so maybe a macro could be made to make it a one-button toggle.

Feel free to email me off list as I have had Tivo for over ten years. Of
course back then I could see, but now that I am a total I love Tivo and know
all the ins and outs. I do not have the Romeo as I have the previous box.
Not sure if you need the Stream with the Romeo as I thought it was built in,
but to answer your question. No you do not need the stream to start shows
playing on your TV by the app. It's fantastic as I use the app for
everything. You will need some sighted assistance the first time you set the
box up, but after that it is very rare that I need sighted assistance ever
with my Tivo. Of course, not being able to see you can't use all the
features, but it is the best option on the market that I have found as the
app is mostly accessible. I have posted here before with the app, I can view
my entire tV guide by time or channel, search for any shows and set a season
pass or record by episode, you can see upcoming episodes, edit your season
pass list, start programs playing on your TV by the iPhone, it's pretty
fantastic and I use it every day. With the Stream you can be on any Wifi
network and connect to your Tivo to watch anything on it.

Re: Following Links in the Facebook App?

2014-07-19 Thread Kellie
I have had mixed success with selecting a link that somebody shares. Sometimes,
when I tap with a single tap sometimes, but I do a single finger double tap on
the link it will take me to a spot where I can comment. Then I do a single
finger double tap again and it activates the link. Other times, I tried this
same technique and it just sits there. It is quite unpredictable. I also don't
seem to be able to tap on the link that several people have shared. When I
tried that it just says selected. I gatecrashes sometimes when it's on the
website. It completely locked up my phone and I have to lock it and then unlock
it close Facebook and start over. I also get crashes when I'm viewing the site
that the link went to. It is odd.

While discussing my probable future tevo purchis with someone they told me
that you can use a Slingbox in conjunction with your cable companys DVR to
record and play shows. I saw a brief review of the Slingbox on this list but it
did not mention weather controling a cable company's DVR was accessible. If
anyone knows weather this is accessible on an iPhone I would appreciate it.

I read the other day that there are over 2.6 million books on Kindle. This

Ok let me have a go at it here as there seems to be a failure to
communicate.Follow these steps to check the mute switch.

1 Hold your iPhone in your hand so that the power button you use to turn your
phone on is in the top right-hand corner. The home button should be on the
flat edge of your iPhone in the center of that edge. The volume buttons should
now be on the left side of your iPhone one button on top of the other.

2 Now find the 2 buttons we just mentioned and move your finger up slightly.
You will feel a tab sticking out. This little tab is a switch. When you use
your fingernail to push the switch in one direction or the other and the
direction of travel will be front to back or back to front. You should hear
one of 2 announcements. the single beep of the vibrater and voice over
announces muted. Flip the switch in the other direction and it should say
unmutted. You want it to say unmuted.

Note: if you have your phone in some kind of case, it may be harder to follow
these instructions and the switch may be in a recessed hole. If possible,
remove your phone from the case and it should be much easier to locate where
this switch is at. Once you know it's location, it will be easier to find it
again with the case back on.

Holler if you need more help. It can be a little frustraighting when you get
your first iPhone but the good news is, it's well worth it.

  Alan

The mute switch will not affect VoiceOver's speech or sounds. Try
flipping the switch; it moves from the back of the phone to the front, or vice
versa, not up and down. When it is nearer the back of the phone, that is muted,
and near the front is un-muted. An easy way to tell is to plug it in; if it
makes a noise, it is not muted, but if it is muted it will vibrate twice.

I know this might be basic, but in the interest of covering all the
bases, did you flip the mute switch? If not, try going to Settings Sound, and
making sure your sound volume is up, and that the ringer is set to vibrate and
ringtone.

Re: My phone vibrates instead of ringing; what can I do to change it?

2014-07-19 Thread Alex Hall
Glad you worked it out. The phone will vibrate once when you flip the switch to
muted, whether it is locked or not. If locked, it will do nothing at all when
you un-mute it; if unlocked, VoiceOver will say unmated. Remember: when the
switch is nearer the screen, the phone is not muted, when it is nearer the back
panel, it is muted.

Re: Curious on PC change to Imap to use on Iphone also?

2014-07-19 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm confused, why not use IMAP on both your PC and your iPhone? I do
this with no problem. I use Thunderbird on all of my Ubuntu and Windows
systems, and it's not behaving weird for me.

If you want to go back to POP3, I'd suggest switching both your PC and
your iPhone to POP3. If the email client on the iPhone supports it,
change the settings to leave the messages on the server but delete them
if you delete them from the phone. This way they won't be downloaded to
your PC when you check your email on the PC. I assume this setting is
supported on the iPhoine, but I've never used POP3 on the iPhone, so I
can't be sure.

Re: App Switcher Closing Running Apps

Hmmm, I guess I personally find doing a 1-finger double tap more efficient
than the 3-finger swipe up.

I suppose it is a matter of preference.

- to close additional apps, simply focus on said app and do the one-finger
double tap

It seems that the one-finger swipe down changes the action for all apps from
default (open) to close so do not tap an app you want to continue having
open.

Re: Deleting Facebook post

2014-07-19 Thread Donna
Hi

Well, if you can get the options button to work for you. Neither on the
m.facebook website or the facebook the option doesn't work.

Go to the facebook website or open the facebook app. Go to your profile page.
Find activity log. Find the post that you wish to delete or edit. Tap on the
option button, if the button works for you, select your preference.

RE: bible app from life church latest update.

2014-07-19 Thread Nicki Keck
One problem I have had with the last 2 updates to this app is that when
reading in braille, verse references have these weird backslaches showing up
between the numbers. Speech doesn't read them that way, but with braille
you see them. Has anyone else noticed this when using a braille display?

Hi Bill,

A few comments regarding closing apps. Yes, if you sswipe down (or up) the
action rotor is set to close and as you said it stays there so youcan double
tap on multiple apps without having to swipe down each time. However, there is
one exception and that is if you accidently touch on the very left where it
says Home. If your rotor is set to close and you touch home it will reset to
Activate Item which is the default.

Now, as far as closing apps after you set the rotor to close. You can double
tap on apps as you explained, but if you have lots of apps to close you can
also touch in the middle of the screen as the screen displays 3 items, home on
the left and 2 apps, one in the middle and one on the right side of the screen.
All other open apps are there but off the screen.
Once you touch and hear the name of an app, you can just leave your finger on
it and split tap, this will close the app and the app next to it will slide
over and I guess you can say it will slide under your finger. Then you just tap
again with another finger and so on. You can pretty much tap with your second
finger as fast as you like without moving your first finger and close 10 or 20
apps in no time at all.

I'm using iOS 7.1.2 (worked this way in all versions of 7?); possibly in prior
iOS versions as well, but I just stumbled on this in 7.

When I focus on a running app, I'm informed to do a 3-finger swipe up to close
the app -- that works fine, but I've discovered a much more efficient method to
close an app if there are a number of open apps you may wish to close at that
time.

Here's how to close a number of running apps quite efficiently:
- press the HOME button twice to launch app switcher
- focus on any given app you wish to close
- execute a one-finger swipe down (should change action from default to
close)
- do a one-finger double tap to close this app
- to close additional apps, simply focus on said app and do the one-finger
double tap

It seems that the one-finger swipe down changes the action for all apps from

default (open) to close so do not tap an app you want to continue having open.
