RE: Questions about moving my iTunes library from a 32-bit Windows 7 laptop to a 64-bit Windows 8 laptop.

2014-08-12 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Ari,

I understand your question.

The short answer with the best case scenario, is that, since your files will
be located on a slightly different path than they were on the original
computer, you will need to tell iTunes where to find them. As it turns out,
this is quite easy and, assuming that your files are organized, relative to
each other, as they were on the original PC, you only need to point iTunes
to a few of the files and then iTunes will then be able to automatically
locate the rest.

Now keep in mind, I said this is the short answer, with the best case
scenario.

Very generally speaking, here is what you should do:

1.
After installing iTunes on the new computer, while holding down the Shift
key, open iTunes and when prompted, select the iTunes Library file with the
extension .ITL.

2.
See if you get lucky by attempting to play one of the media files from
within iTunes. If you're lucky, the file will play and you're all done.
Assuming that you get an error when attempting to play a file, however,
proceed to step 3.

3.
When you attempt to play a file that is no longer in the expected location,
an iTunes dialog box will appear asking if you would like to locate the
file. Select this option and, using Windows Explorer from within iTunes,
select the correct file associated with the iTunes Library item entry.

4.
Before closing, iTunes will ask if you would like it to search for other
files in that same location. If you select this option, iTunes will
automatically attempt to match its remaining broken Library item entries
with files in that location. It may be necessary to repeat steps 3 and 4
several times until you have fully associated all of your files.

Ari, hopefully this will, at least, get you started.

Good Luck,

Mark

Subject: Questions about moving my iTunes library from a 32-bit Windows 7
laptop to a 64-bit Windows 8 laptop.

I think I've copied all the necessary files into another location on my
Windows 7 laptop so that I can transfer them to the Windows 8 one. I just
need the iTunes folder from the My Music folder, correct? After that, where
do I put it? I assume I install iTunes onto the new computer before
transfering the library. My question is, because I have a slightly different
file path than I did before, how do I tell the library on the new system
point ! a few other locatioNs when lkoking for media? I handled all the
organization of files on my old system, and didn't let iTunes do anything in
terms of moving files or reorganizing or whatever. I just made it reference
certain parts of my drive. I'd like to do the same on my new system, if I
can. I hope this is making some kind of sense. I don't know of any better
way to explain what I want to do or what I'm stuck on. Any help is greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Ari

Gary, I can't answer your question regarding the audio for Fox news.
However, you do in fact need a Sirius subscription in order to access
any Sirius channel on the Radium app.

Patty, Double tap find more stations. Then type or dictate the name of
the sirius station for which you are looking. For example, right now, I
am listening to the game between the Royals and the Giants. So after I
double tapped "find more stations," I typed in the word "giants" and

Fox News does have its own app, but the last time I tried it, it was not the
most accessible with voice over.
Now, in order to access any of the SiriusXM stations, it is true, you do
have to have a subscription, but as far as the price, That depends on the
package you get.

Now as far as accessing Fox News stations with the Radium app, it is true,
SiriusXM does have a couple of Fox stations, but there is other fox news
stations that you can access through the Radium app for no cost.
Just open up the app, double tap on the find more stations button, then, in
the edit field, just type fox news and double tap done to start your
search.
Now, I do not know if any of the other available fox stations is what you
are looking for, but I wanted to make you aware that they were there.

Hope this helps!

give us a lot more flexibility and at least we know it will be completely
accessible. From what I heard it is very likely that it will feature SIRI
and a lot of voice control as well, but as Jeff pointed out, none of that
search by voice is doing us any good if we can't navigate and select from
the search results.

I purchased the Amazon Fire TV media device. It is not at all
accessible nor useable. I bought it for my wife and it's a great
media box for those who can navigate by seeing the TV screen for
menus. But, nothing is spoken so there's no way of selecting
functions, selecting from among search results, etc.

RE: Advocating for VO Accessibility

2014-08-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Michelle,

I am in Canada and just typed in "NFB Newsline" into the search field of the
app store app. I typed it exactly as I put it here but of course without the
quotation marks. I had 1 single search result for the NFB Newsline app. Of
course I did double tap on "Search" at the bottom right of the keyboard because
very often if you just type something and then check the results which are
starting to populate based on what you type you don't find things as easily.
You should always tap on "Search" after you enter your search term.

The bard mobile app is easy to locate I agree. The nfb Newsline was not, for
me, when I searched nfb or national federation of the blind in the iTunes Store
and the App Store. What was surprising to me was that these apps were not
familiar to the people who answered the apple accessibility phone line.
Apparently I misunderstood the point of the original poster in that he is
looking for advice regarding speaking with developers, not individual stories
of frustration with dealing with customer service for the accessibility device
providers. So please disregard my earlier post.

RE: Microsoft OneDrive now offering 1 Terrabyte of storage with Office 365 Home subscription

2014-08-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't think so, OneDrive is set up to sync whatever is on your computer to
the cloud and also to sync that content to other devices you have. As you
said, Google Drive works the same way and so does Dropbox. With the capacity
and prices of hard drives these days not having enough storage on your PC
should not be a problem, it's usually not having enough cloud storage that
is the issue. Of course in another few years we probably all laugh at 10, 20
or 50 Gb of cloud storage since companies like Dropbox and so on will have
to follow other companies like Microsoft OneDrive to remain competitive and
cloud storage will get bigger and cheaper just as local storage has done and
continues to do.

When I bought my first 386 PC in 1989 I had a 70 Mb hard drive in it, mind
you it was 70 Mb not Gb. At the time I was in University and a lot of my
students still had 286 computers with 20 or 40 Mb drives.

I just checked the size of my "Hell freezes Over" album by the Eagles which
I ripped in iTunes Plus format at 256 Kbps and it is 139 Mb so back then I
would have filled up my entire hard drive with about 7 out of the 15 songs
on that album. Amazing.

Hello Listers,

I know the topic of cloud/online storage often comes up on the list. Since I
haven't seen anybody else post about this, I thought I let everybody know
that Microsoft is now offering a whopping 1 Tb of storage with a Office 365
Home subscription which costs $99 per year.

The subscription also entitles you to download and install a full version of
Office 2013 on up to 5 computers and if you set up accounts for up to 5
family members under that subscription each person actually gets 1 Tb of
storage for a total of 5 Tb of storage.

The OneDrive app on the iPhone is very accessible and offers many of the
same features as Dropbox does including camera roll backup, music and video
file playback etc.

Even spending $99 a year (just $8.25 a month) for 1 Tb of storage is pretty
attractive, but you also get full use of Office 2013 on up to 5 devices.

Amazon Video Library Not Showing In Amazon Instant Video

2014-08-12 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, all,

I've successfully played movies and TV shows in Amazon Instant Video. I can go
to the library tab and choose the TV or movies button, then choose a video from
the list. I do not have the Amazon Prime service.

Starting last night, nothing shows up in these lists. I checked, and I'm signed
into my account. I've bought one movie and one TV series season.

Anyone else have this situation?

Thanks,

Re: How accessible is overdrive

2014-08-12 Thread Kelly Pierce
First, the free student memberships are only available to Americans
through a grant Bookshare received from the United States Department
of Education. They are not available to all student members. This
program is apart and separate from the Library eBook Accessibility
Program that Overdrive offers to its libraries.

If a library is currently using the Overdrive service, it merely needs
to contact its Overdrive representative and request that Leap be added
to its account. There is no additional cost to the library, but it
must opt in., Once this happens, library cardholders then request from
their local library the Bookshare membership. If a library refuses to
join LEAP, then it needs to find another means to deliver accessible
e-books to blind and disabled people or face being sued. Overdrive is
not fully accessible and public libraries must deliver accessible
services under law.

Re: NFL Mobile

2014-08-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
This is probably because you weren't able to select the Bears as your
favorite team. When installing NFL Mobile for the first time, you're
asked to select your favorite team. I suspect it's just a grid of NFL
logos, but it isn't accessible with VoiceOver. I got lucky somehow and
selected the Dolphins. You might want to use some sighted assistance to
select the Bears as your favorite team.

I did report this issue to NFL AudioPass feedback, butI haven't gotten
anything but an automated response yet.

Thanks much but this wasn't the issue most people were having. The
issue was that the app wasn't providing us a place to sign in where
it was supposed to be or anywhere else that we could find. So
several of us reinstalled which did allow us to log in to our
audiopass subscription but then didn't allow us to choose a favorite
team but just assigned one. And I am still concerned because while I
was able to log in I am not sure whether the app is still showing my
audiopass subscription now. Also, for the person who was unable to
find the way to subscribe, it should be in settings, though the path
through "schedule" during a game may also provide you with a way to
subscribe. I think this pretty much summarizes what has been
discussed about NFL Mobile besides the fact that it is no longer a
Verizon-only app. Also, it is my understanding that once you
subscribe to audiopass, you can use it on your device or computer or
wherever; the wording below suggests that the audiopass subscription
through the NFL Mobile app is just for your iOS device but at least
as far as I can tell there is no subscription that is limited to the
iOS device. Subscriptions from the iOS device, the PC or Mac
computer or anything else out there that can connect to the Internet
and do the subscription applies to anything you want to listen on
that is supported though I think you can only log in and listen on
one at a time.

Unfortunately, that is a problem with the keyboard. I have talked to the

Subject: My First 48 Hours with the RII Mini Bluetooth Keyboard

Hello Everyone,

You know, it's only after having the RII mini Bluetooth keyboard for the
past 48 hours or so that I began to realize how much I have missed having a
mobile hardware keyboard with which to compose SMS messages while on the
move in areas where voice dictation is not an option.

Today, I was in a vehicle, in stop-and-go traffic when I needed to reply to
a text message. It was nice not having my typing accuracy severely
diminished by the varying speeds of the car, as would be the case when
entering text via the on-screen keyboard.

Of course, I do have a Braille display/keyboard but (1) the model I have,
while portable, does require significantly more space and (2) it is so
expensive, I hate taking it out and about the city unless absolutely
necessary.

Earlier today I stopped by one of those cell phone case kiosk that one can
find in shopping malls, and purchased a folio style iPhone case for the RII
mini Bluetooth keyboard. I think I paid about $12. Just a little
protection for the keyboard and I find that it makes the keyboard even more
convenient and comfortable to hold while typing--especially when I'm
walking.

This is the fourth Bluetooth keyboard I've purchased for use with my iPHone
but the first and only one that is hitting on all cylinders, so to speak
(smile).

The first thing you need to do to use touch ID is to go to settings, touch ID

Thanks much but this wasn't the issue most people were having. The issue was
that the app wasn't providing us a place to sign in where it was supposed to be

allow us to log in to our audiopass subscription but then didn't allow us to
choose a favorite team but just assigned one. And I am still concerned because
while I was able to log in I am not sure whether the app is still showing my
audiopass subscription now. Also, for the person who was unable to find the way
to subscribe, it should be in settings, though the path through "schedule"
during a game may also provide you with a way to subscribe. I think this pretty
much summarizes what has been discussed about NFL Mobile besides the fact that
it is no longer a Verizon-only app. Also, it is my understanding that once you
subscribe to audiopass, you can use it on your device or computer or wherever;
the wording below suggests that the audiopass subscription through the NFL
Mobile app is just for your iOS device but at least as far as I can tell there
is no subscription that is limited to the iOS device. Subscriptions from the
iOS device, the PC or Mac computer or anything else out there that can connect
to the Internet and do the subscription applies to anything you want to listen
on that is supported though I think you can only log in and listen on one at a
time.

Ok, this helps too. I just got
another app called All Football Radio for a

when you pick your team, the app shows you

your team has an agreement not to

I just can't find anywhere on the

Yes, and thanks for the help. I can say that I am an audiopass subscriber. To
my delight I also found out that I can listen to past games of the last few
years. My choices were 20 bucks for just my team and my wife says why limit
yourself and go for the lot. I didn't think $39.95 was a bad price. Go to 1
NFL game and you'll spend a lot more than 40 bucks. Again, thanks to all for
their help.

  Hi,

Since this thread has been a long one, I am not sure if someone previously
responded to this issue, but to hear AudioPass games, you need to do the
following:

When you know that an NFL game is live, navigate to schedule. Tap on this.
The app screen will refresh and you will see the games currently playing. Tap
on the listen link. If you are logged in, the game should start playing,
provided that you have subscribed to AudioPass via the PC. If you have not, you
will be offered the option to make an in-app purchase to subscribe to AudioPass
for your IOS device.

I hope this clears some things up.

  Rajiv

Questions about moving my iTunes library from a 32-bit Windows 7 laptop to a 64-bit Windows 8 laptop.

2014-08-12 Thread Gmail
I think I've copied all the necessary files into another location on my Windows
7 laptop so that I can transfer them to the Windows 8 one. I just need the
iTunes folder from the My Music folder, correct? After that, where do I put it?
I assume I install iTunes onto the new computer before transfering the library.
My question is, because I have a slightly different file path than I did
before, how do I tell the library on the new system point ! a few other
locatioNs when lkoking for media? I handled all the organization of files on my
old system, and didn't let iTunes do anything in terms of moving files or
reorganizing or whatever. I just made it reference certain parts of my drive.
I'd like to do the same on my new system, if I can. I hope this is making some
kind of sense. I don't know of any better way to explain what I want to do or
what I'm stuck on. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ari

Some threads drift off-topic on various lists, and those subjects should be

(smile).

First, thank you Teresa, I erased the subject line of my message (composed as a

I'd erased all of the content in the message body. Evidently, this didn't
prevent my message from being included in another thread, for which I
apologize. This is confusing to me, since I should not have encountered this
problem.

Now, on to the request I wanted to post:

I love Google Maps! Before when I was using the regular Maps app, when I
would double tap on an address in the contacts part of the phone, the Maps
screen came up and that address was often not automatically included in the
destination field of a new route. Now hoever, whether I put in part or all
of the address, or a name of a place, I get a list of possible results I
can choose from. So far, I have often found what I was looking for in that
list. Google Maps is very easy to use.
I use it regularly to track and give directions for routes that I take with
my wife in the car.

the company recognizes the accessibility issues with Overdrive and its
limitations on fixing them, as it relies on software and coding from third
parties. For this reason, Overdrive offers free Bookshare memberships to
patrons of libraries who opt in to this program at no additional cost to the

Gary, I can't answer your question regarding the audio for Fox news.
However, you do in fact need a Sirius subscription in order to access
any Sirius channel on the Radium app.

Patty, Double tap find more stations. Then type or dictate the name of
the sirius station for which you are looking. For example, right now, I
am listening to the game between the Royals and the Giants. So after I
double tapped "find more stations," I typed in the word "giants" and
then tapped search and found the appropriate station and double tapped
to tune in.

Re: Sirius xm on radium

2014-08-12 Thread Chris Chaffin

Fox News does have its own app, but the last time I tried it, it was not the
most accessible with voice over.
Now, in order to access any of the SiriusXM stations, it is true, you do have
to have a subscription, but as far as the price, That depends on the package
you get.

Now as far as accessing Fox News stations with the Radium app, it is true,
SiriusXM does have a couple of Fox stations, but there is other fox news
stations that you can access through the Radium app for no cost.
Just open up the app, double tap on the find more stations button, then, in the
edit field, just type fox news and double tap done to start your search.
Now, I do not know if any of the other available fox stations is what you are
looking for, but I wanted to make you aware that they were there.

Hope this helps!

Chris Chaffin

It might be best to ask any subsequent questions on this topic on a JAWS

2014-08-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Yes they can. It's just an AC to USB adapter, and the USB standard is
pretty standard.

The Apple certified cables with lightning adaptors have a special chip
which communicates with the battery system in the iDevice to best manage
the battery charge and condition. Non Apple certified lightning adaptor
cables do not have this chip, and will shorten one's ultimate battery
life. I only use Apple certified cables for this reason.

Also, Apple certified wall adaptors have regulator technology which
stops current flow if there is a strong power draw as well as surge
protection. This system communicates with the lightning chip to best
manage the iDevice or Mac battery condition and charging.

I'm used to getting the above subject error message when charging my
iPhone 5 using the third-party lightning cable I bought from Amazon

I'm curious with what others have experienced with their Apple
cables and how long they've lasted. I take extremely good care of my
stuff almost to the point of being OCD so I'm concerned that this
message is starting to occur too frequently.

Is anyone else getting this message and under what circumstances?
How well are your Apple cables holding up?

Thanks for any comments.

Re: Sirius xm on radium

2014-08-12 Thread Gary Petraccaro
I tried to access Sirius and was told that a subscription was needed of $15
per month. What I want Sirius for is to access Fox tv News. Is my
information correct and is there any other way to access this station with
or without video?

Thanks.

Patty, Double tap find more stations. Then type or dictate the name of
the sirius station for which you are looking. For example, right now, I
am listening to the game between the Royals and the Giants. So after I
double tapped "find more stations," I typed in the word "giants" and
then tapped search and found the appropriate station and double tapped
to tune in.

play and add it to favorites? ? Do I have to search for it? Thanks
