ARIA Scale.

2014-08-18 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
So I went to Google and read about the Aria Scale. So now I have bought it from
Amazon which was so much cheaper than buying it directly from the manufacturers
website. Good Amazon. Thanks to this list I have bought something useful. Now
is there a Blood pressure device although I don't have problems with Blood
Pressure. Hope this App is easy to use. Can a blind person set this Aria Scale
up without sighted help? Please let me know as I get it on Tuesday the 19th of
August.

RE: Aria Scale

2014-08-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Kawal,

It's a scale as in a weight scale to measure your body weight. It is made by
Fitbit and connects via Bluetooth to the Fitbit app. They call it a "Smart
Scale" and apart from your weight it can measure your body fat percentage
and BMI (body mass index).

If you Google it or go to www.fitbit.com you can read all about it in much
more detail than I can describe.

Sieghard

Waking Up From An iTunes Nightmare That I Helped Create

2014-08-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

This message is just an F Y I:

Back in 2007, I purchased my first NAS (network attached storage). For many
of us, attaching a drive that contained its own web server, media server,
and FTP server was exciting and a bit daunting.

The general reason why people like using a network attached storage drive is
so that anyone logged into the network has access to all of the files on the
drive. A NAS provides a kind of localized version of a Cloud. For home
users, before such devices such as a network attached storage drive was
available, if people wanted to share files, they had to setup pier-to-pier
networking or share drives and folders on one computer with another but
doing so meant that the host computer had to be powered on all the time.

Now you history buffs will no doubt find fault in my conclusions but it is
not my goal to write a comprehensive history of technology here; I just want
to sketch out a generalized background for the purpose of perspective.

So, when I purchased my first iPhone, which was a 3GS, I downloaded iTunes
on my Windows computer for the first time. To say that I absolutely hated
iTunes would be the understatement of the millennium (smile). At that time,
I had no real experience with the Mac or with any of Apple's file system or
file handling policies. As a result, in retrospect of course, I made a mess
of things in terms of telling iTunes what to do with what files.

Please keep in mind that iTunes, itself, was very different back in those
days and, on Windows at least, the program did not handle files as well as
it does today. For example, the version of iTunes I started with, could not
play certain video files if they were nested too deeply in the Windows file
system.  No doubt some of you may ask, how was such a scenario possible;
just take my word for it, it was possible and did happen more often than
not, for many of us who tried to impose a Windows type file structure on an
Apple product.

But I digress.

So, when I installed my first copy of iTunes to use with my first iOS
device, way back then, I installed it on the Windows computer's main drive.

As time passed, and I began purchasing apps, creating playlists, importing
photos, etc, I realized that it would only be a matter of time before the
size of my iTunes Library would begin to dwarf the size of my computer's
internal hard drive. I also worried that if anything happened to that
computer, such as becoming infected with a virus, I would lose my iTunes
Library.

What did I do? You guessed it, I transferred my then rather tiny iTunes
Library to my NAS.

Believe it or not, this was quite exciting. What I soon discovered was
that, in addition to making my iTunes Library independent of my primary
computer, since the Library was on a constantly shared drive, I could access
that exact same Library, complete with it's playlists, etc, from any PC on
the network. Again, keep in mind that this was before the days of home
sharing and such.

Remember that I said that iTunes used to have a nested level file limit? In
order to compensate for that little glitch, from within iTunes, I changed
the location, on the NAS, of my Library several times until I found a
formula that worked. I know this may sound arcane to some of you but, we
old timers, had to do a great many things to keep the lights on, as it were.

Once I realized the true power of a NAS, I purchased several more over the
years in order to augment my home network.

Network attached storage devices are wonderful but they do have two major
drawbacks. (1) Many NAS devices will only allow you to access the files via
their built-in web server. This means that you much use an Ethernet cable
not a USB cable to see the files and (2) almost all of the NAS use
proprietary files systems, many based on Linux.

Why is this a problem? If anything happens to the physical enclosure, that
is to say, the box in which the actual disk is installed, even if you can
remove the disk from within the enclosure and place it in a USB box, the
files will not be seen by your computer because of the network attached
storage's proprietary operating system.

Sometimes, the proprietary software installed on a NAS can be quite flaky
after a while and simply stop working; or, due to poor quality control, the
drive's controller will malfunction. This happens more than the
manufacturers want the public to know. That wouldn't be so bad except, as I
stated earlier, you cannot access the files on either a Windows computer or
a Mac because the system is non-standard. Keep in mind that even when such
a thing happens, usually, the files themselves are just fine, you just can't
access them. When this happens you have two choices. You can (1) ship the
drive off to a special company that will charge you a great deal of money to
open the drive, platter by platter, and extract the files for you or (2)
remove the disk drive from its original NAS enclosure, place it i

Subject: Waking Up From An iTunes Nightmare That I Helped Create

For example, the version of iTunes I started with, could not
play certain video files if they were nested too deeply in the Windows file
system.  No doubt some of you may ask, how was such a scenario possible;
just take my word for it, it was possible and did happen more often than
not, for many of us who tried to impose a Windows type file structure on an
Apple product.

Hi,

If you mean you bought the Flex, you will need to either attach it to your
shoe or move the arm that you have the tracker on in order to record your
steps. Since I always hold on with both hands to the rails, I put it on my
shoe. If you have a pocket that goes down your leg some, you can also put
it in there to record steps.

It is very easy to set alarms. That is one of my favorite features.

Re: How Do You Get To the Draft Email Box On the iPhone:

2014-08-18 Thread Teresa Cochran
The unsent messages most likely won't be in a drafts folder unless you saved
them. If they're in an outgoing queue, they'll be in an outbox, which will
appear, along with drafts, in the mailboxes list. From your inbox, find the
"mailboxes" item at the top left of your screen and double-tap it. You'll most
likely find your drafts folder in that list. If the messages were sent from a
specific server that isn't your default, try going to the individual accounts
under the "mailboxes" list and see if they are located in the specific folders
there. Each account will have a drafts folder. I think the "outbox" simply
appears in the main list of folders when there are unsent messages.

Re: deleting files from over cast

2014-08-18 Thread Brian Fischler
I just took the plunge this weekend finally as I am a long time Downcast user
and lover, and am probably going to stick with Downcast as for someone who is
subscribed to a lot of podcasts there are certain things in Overcast that I
don't like. Saying that I do think it is fantastic that we have an option and
am grateful for the developer keeping accessibility in mind when building this
app. To answer your question, and this is one of the reasons I am going to
stick with Downcast as there are at least four or five ways to delete an
episode in Downcast, but in Overcast deleting an episode is a little clunky as
you need to use the edit tab when in all episode mode then turn the delete
button on and tap confirm to delete. Downcast definitely does this right making
use of the swipe down to delete much faster than it is in Overcast. Hope this
helps.

Re: some ipad questions

2014-08-18 Thread Alan Paganelli
It takes around 3 hours to totally recharge the keyboard case's internal
battery. I send and receive a lot of email and a full charge on the battery
will last about 2 to 3 weeks before needing to be recharged. That's the
good news. The bad news is, you'll be typing and all of a sudden the
battery dies and your there wondering just what happened. If it's something
that you need done right now, 15 minutes of recharging usually lets you
finish the job. I have an iPad Air in a QWERTY keyboard case.

Question concerning NFL Audio Pass

2014-08-18 Thread SoonerAnnie
Hi listers,

When using NFL Audio Pass on an IOS device, is there an easy way to get to it
and the broadcast you are wanting to listen to? Sometimes I find it with no
trouble, and then there are other times... ... ...

And do you have to listen to the home team broadcast, or is there a way to
choose what you want to listen to? I'm a little tired of it kicking my backside
so thought I'd ask for assistance. Smile. TIA...and have a great week!

having major problems with im plus

2014-08-18 Thread Jed Barton

Hey guys,
I am having major IM plus problems with facebook. I need some help if
anyone is around. Trying to get this to work. I ahve it installed on
the ipad.
It seems to be acting flaky. I don't see any of my contacts at all.
Yet it keeps telling me that i have already authorized im plus for
iphone. This isn't an iphone, it's an ipad. Then i get this thing in
the middle of the app that says facebook authorization. Has anyone gone
through these hadaches, and do you have a step by step instructions?

Thanks,
Jed

So I took the plunge and bought the sleeping Tracker as I thought that
would be handy to use on the Treadmill rather than my Ipod Nano and Heart

App and that I can set the sleeping and waking Alarm!

Re: deleting files from over cast

2014-08-18 Thread Paul Henrichsen
Hi. You can tap and hold on the episode the move your finger to the left. It
will then say delete.
However, I find this rather problematic. Many times, it just starts playing the
episode again.
It takes me a few times to get the delete button to pop up.
I hope he adds a downward or upward flick to delete in a later version.
This would certainly make it easier.
But, it's now my go to podcast app.

Re: Question concerning NFL Audio Pass

2014-08-18 Thread Alan Paganelli
You have to tap on schedule. That brings up a list of the games being
played. they will show the game and the home team or the visitor. you can
listen to either side of the ball. I went back and listened to a bears game
but from the other side of the ball. Very strange. When the bears scored a
touch down their people were sad! LOL!

Re: Question concerning NFL Audio Pass

2014-08-18 Thread Alan Paganelli
If you buy a subscription to NFL Audiopass, you then can listen to the games
depending on the package you buy. I bought the season plus so I can listen
to all the preseason, regular season, playoffs and super bowl. It cost me
40 bucks. Through the NFL app and with audiopass I can listen to the games
but only online can I go back and listen to any games played sense I think
2011. I'm sure if I'm wrong somebody will correct me. I've only had it 2
weeks. But I hope this helps anyway.

You have to tap on schedule. That brings up a list of the games being
played. they will show the game and the home team or the visitor. you can
listen to either side of the ball. I went back and listened to a bears game
but from the other side of the ball. Very strange. When the bears scored a
touch down their people were sad! LOL!

Hi listers,

When using NFL Audio Pass on an IOS device, is there an easy way to get to
it and the broadcast you are wanting to listen to? Sometimes I find it with

And do you have to listen to the home team broadcast, or is there a way to
choose what you want to listen to? I'm a little tired of it kicking my

Re: How do you get Rid of a City in your Weather lookup

2014-08-18 Thread Steve
Going from memory, there's an edit button in the native weather app on the
lower right, I think.

In the edit area you have the option to add a ciy, re=-order the cities or
delete one. Each city is listed on its own line with the Delete button
right next to it. You can also re-order the list so you have the cities you
want coming up on the first pages.

Double tapping on a city opens it.

When I enable Hints, it says to, "double tap and hold, then drag
vertically to rearrange cities". As I understand it, that only moves a
city up or down your list.

Perhaps you need to double-tap on the city.

I don't have a straightforward way to get there. I have the same

However, once you are playing the broadcast, if you move around the screen,

RE: Waking Up From An iTunes Nightmare That I Helped Create

2014-08-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Kliphton,

Glad to hear that you've got everything backed up.

The short answer is, if both your Mac and Windows computers use the same
iTunes user ID and both computers are authorized on the same account, you
should be good to go.

Also, remember that in order for this to work, the iTunes Library .ITL and
all of your media must also live on the NAS. If any item in your Library
points to any source file not located on the NAS, you will encounter
problems.

Again, best case scenario as in my situation, be certain not to access the
Library with more than one computer at a time doing so will cause read/write
error problems.

Finally, before you attempt doing this for the first time, backup
everything, okay? After you access the Library from either platform and
understand the subtle nuances of doing so, said nuances being outside the
scope of this reply, you will be good to go from then on.

To actually point iTunes to the Library located on the NAS:

1.
>From either a Windows computer or a Mac, simply hold down the appropriate
modifier key when Clicking on the iTunes Desktop icon. In Windows, I
believe this is the Shift key and on the Mac, I think it is the Option key.
I do it so rarely that I forget. Someone on this list posted how to do this
using only VoiceOver but I cannot remember the key combination.

2.
You will be given the option to select an existing Library or to create a
new one.

That's all there is to it.

For example, the version of iTunes I started with, could not
play certain video files if they were nested too deeply in the Windows file
system.  No doubt some of you may ask, how was such a scenario possible;
just take my word for it, it was possible and did happen more often than
not, for many of us who tried to impose a Windows type file structure on an
Apple product.

I als

Subject: Waking Up From An iTunes Nightmare That I Helped Create

For example, the version of iTunes I started with, could not
play certain video files if they were nested too deeply in the Windows file
system.  No doubt some of you may ask, how was such a scenario possible;
just take my word for it, it was possible and did

What type of coupons are you looking for, grocery, retail, local attractions?
In store coupons or online coupons?

I'm not the OP, but any apps people know of for in-store coupons, mostly for

1. Double tap the title of the page, which is the first item (top left corner).
Sometimes a page will go to full screen, and you have to double tap the title
twice before the address field comes up. That's the iPhone, I don't know about
the iPad as much.

2. Install the iCloud Control Panel. It should prompt you to install the iCloud
Bookmarks extension for Firefox, but if not, you can find the extension
separately on Google. Once installed, that should let all your bookmarks sync
across your iOS devicesand your Windows machine.

And do you have to listen to the home team broadcast, or is there a way to
choose what you want to listen to? I'm a little tired of it kicking my
backside so thought I'd ask for assistance. Smile. TIA...and have a great
week!

2014-08-18 Thread Alex Hall
To my knowledge, iCloud Control Panel is accessible, yes.

I've never used the program with Internet Explorer, as Firefox offers a
superior web browsing experience and I always use it when I have to go to
Windows for something. I believe it will work, but that's a guess, and I can't
offer any steps or specifics.

I'm not the OP, but any apps people know of for in-store coupons, mostly for
groceries, would be great.
