Facebook revisit

2015-01-09 Thread Joanne Chua
Hi all,

Just wondering, anyone have any solution for the native facebook app
to sort the netsfeed in order from latest first? I've tried more; most
recent, but it just for the session, and the most recents seems to
only give me the most 10 recent... Its the same for both iphone and
ipad.

Any solution?

Thanks

Re: turning house phone into bluetooth handsets

2015-01-09 Thread Rob

Hi,
Can this cordless phone be used to dial numbers on the iPhone, such as
entering account numbers when calling the bank on the iPhone?
That is the main reason I dont use my iPhone as my main home phone. I
dont like entering lots of numbers.

Ok guys, here is the model I got several months ago and like I said it works
fantastic but I did need some sighted assistance setting everything up as the
phone does have a lot of menus that would not be useful to us. However, I have
been very happy with the purchase. It is the Panasonic KX-TG7733S and I bought
it on Amazon. this is the three phone system and yes you can connect multiple
iPhones to it and each iPhone will ring through the Panasonic with your
individual ring tone so you will know who the call is for. It comes with an
answering machine which is easiest enough to use as there are only four buttons
on the base. I believe there are additional models that come with 2, 4, and 5
handsets, but no corded phone as all the units are cordless. Hope this helps
and feel free to contact me off list should you have any other questions.

Hi Tracy, I think I have what you are looking for. Are you looking to speak on
your iPhone via your home phone handset? I currently have my iPhone connected
to my handsets via bluetooth and it works fantastically even reading out my
caller ID on the iPhone through my home phone hand sets and my iPhone’s ring
tone ringing on the home phone so I know the difference. If this is what you
are looking for let me know and I will see if I can find what phone system I
bought. The phone system was like $80 or so and has three cordless phones I
have throughout the apartment allowing me to answer my iPhone wherever I am. It
works great.

Hi Tracy,

If they work as advertised and calls don't sound like when you use a bluetooth
headsed then this should do the trick. If I were you I'd just order it, try it
and then you know for sure. If it's no good just send it back which is pretty
easy with Amazon. All you have to do is log in, pull up the order, click on the
Return button for the product and follow the prompts until you get your mailing
label. Print the label and off it goes. I recently bought an Infrared Remote
extender which I can't get to work and I just did what I described a couple of
days ago and it literally takes 5 minutes.

Hi all,

I’ve been doing some searching this morning… Have you guys heard of either

Cobra PhoneLynx bluetooth system
http://www.amazon.com/Cobra-BT215A-Phonelynx-for-Android/dp/B004SGQY7K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1420824849&sr=8-2&keywords=cobra+phoneLynx

It sounds like both systems connect into your existing corded or cordless house
phones, which then become bluetooth handsets for your iPhone.

I like the sound of this set up better than just a bluetooth handset. Anyone
know about this sort of thing?

Thanks so much,
Traci

listened to the podcast demonstration on the KNFB Reader

2015-01-09 Thread Lori Dent
Hi Isaac , Sieghard and all,

I just got done listening to the podcast demonstration on the knfb reader. It
has a lot of cool features in this app. I haven't practice with it yet but I
will over the weekend but I'm going to love this app a lot.

I also have read the user manual on the knfb reader. I also saved the podcast
of the demonstration in sarfari successfully yesterday. This is a very cool
app and I know I'm going to love it and use this app a lot. So it was werth the
price I paid for it even though I paid full price for it.

Once I have practice with it some over the weekend I will report back on my
thoughts about the app.

Looking for time/clock app that also has vibration option

2015-01-09 Thread Wayne Merritt
Greetings. I am looking for a time and/or clock app that will also let
me know the time via vibration. I have had some issues with my braille
watch recently and have thought off and on about an alternative. If
the app could be used with vibration only then that might be helpful
in places where having VoiceOver speak would not be good, such as in a
meeting. Also, though this may be wishful thinking, if I could get the
time in vibration from the lock screen that would be handy as well,
perhaps with a gesture. In doing some searching on the AppleVis site,
I found an app that looks to fit the bill but it is listed as a
jailbreak app, which wouldn't work for me since I have not jailbroken
my phone. I have an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1.2 for what that's worth.

Thanks,
Wayne Merritt

The only time the system will click is in secure text fields, such as those for
passwords.

No, it should work as you'd expect. Use a one-finger swipe up or down to move
in the text by the rotor item you've selected. Up moves you left, down moves
you right.

You definitely can. Just touch the name, then use the same rotor gestures you
already know. They will work on text you are viewing anywhere on the system
just as well as they work in edit fields. In your case, just find the band
name, rotor to characters, and swipe down with one finger; each swipe will read
the next character.

Re: dialPad staying on screen during calls

2015-01-09 Thread Alex Hall
The comma will pause the dialing briefly, then automatically dial the number(s)
after it. If it's a sequence that requires you to wait for a prompt, use a
semicolon. When you do, you first hide the keyboard, then you'l see a button
labeled "dial ###", where the number signs are the number you wentered after
the semicolon. Hope that makes sense.

There are no buttons when this occurs- don't know what triggers it- that's why
I have tried several times to remove the album art from the phone, but that is
not working either.

When you say you get stuck in album art, do you mean your play controls
disappear? If so, just touch the screen in the middle (where the album art is)
and double tap, that should unhide your playback controls.

As others have said, the dial pad should still be on screen while you are on a
call. Here is what the Dresner book “Getting Started with …”says in regard to
entering info such as account info or choosing menu items. It’s dizzying, and I
doubt I could do it right off. See below.
“If you want to call your bank and have your account information dialed at the
appropriate time, or to call an office and have the phone automatically make
menu choices for you when you call, activate the SHIFT button located below the
7. With SHIFT engaged, the 4, 6, 7, and 9 positions are occupied by the COMMA,
SEMICOLON, STAR and POUND sign. There's a PLUS symbol to the right of SHIFT,
and a second DELETE button to the right of that. The COMMA tells the phone to
pause, making it possible to follow menu prompts and enter account numbers.
Enter a COMMA symbol every time you need the phone to wait for a prompt. For
instance, let's say your bank requires you to enter the digit 1 three times and
then your account number when you call for information. You would enter the
bank's phone number, then COMMA 1 COMMA 1 COMMA 1 COMMA followed by your
account number. If you need a longer pause, enter two COMMA characters.”

how to read back

2015-01-09 Thread Deidre Muccio
In light of the discussion on highlighting and editing, it seemed that
sometimes when I am deleting something I've entered in a text field it
simply clicks and at other times it tells me what letter I am removing. I
much prefer the latter. Also I don't know how to get it to read what I have
entered letter by letter or word by word. I know the rotor can be set on
characters or words but that doesn't seem to allow me to actually read what
has been entered until I've left the edit field then gone back to it. Did I
imagine this?
And I suppose I'd be dreaming if someone told me that I could spell
out the name of a band or artist when it is listed and playing on the phone.
Sometimes I'd like to see the spelling. I know I could look it up on line
then use Jaws to read character by character to check but that is just one
more step...
No new phone yet, the snow discouraged my friend from driving 30
miles south on highway.

Re: turning house phone into bluetooth handsets

2015-01-09 Thread Brian Fischler
Hope this helps
and feel free to contact me off list should you have any other questions.

reading out my caller ID on the iPhone through my home phone hand sets and
my iPhone’s ring tone ringing on the home phone so I know the difference. If

It sounds like both systems connect into your existing corded or cordless

I like the sound of this set up better than just a bluetooth handset.
Anyone know about this sort of thing?

Re: dialPad staying on screen during calls

2015-01-09 Thread Alex Hall
Honestly, I'm a bit confused. My dial pad always stays on the screen, unless I
intentionally lock my phone or exit the phone app while the call is in
progress. How are you making your calls, and are you doing anything during them
that might cause the dial pad to disappear?

dialPad staying on screen during calls

2015-01-09 Thread Marie
On another list, someone stated that on the IPhone you could have the DialPad
remain on the screen during a call. Is this possible and if so, how do you go
about this? My main problem with making calls is when you need to press numbers
to access the different menu choices on the call you are making.

RE: turning house phone into bluetooth handsets

2015-01-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: turning house phone into bluetooth handsets

Hi all,

I’ve been doing some searching this morning… Have you guys heard of either

Cobra PhoneLynx bluetooth system
http://www.amazon.com/Cobra-BT215A-Phonelynx-for-Android/dp/B004SGQY7K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1420824849&sr=8-2&keywords=cobra+phoneLynx

xtreme technologies xlink bluetooth gateway
http://www.amazon.com/Xtreme-Technologies-BT-Bluetooth-Gateway/dp/B00135XU7Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1420824849&sr=8-3&keywords=cobra+phoneLynx

It sounds like both systems connect into your existing corded or cordless house
phones, which then become bluetooth handsets for your iPhone.

I like the sound of this set up better than just a bluetooth handset. Anyone
know about this sort of thing?

Thanks so much,
Traci

Andrew, I have no clue. When I got my 5s they deactivated my iPhone 4.
Nobody said anything about any card. I can connect my iPhone 4 to my home
WI-FI network. From there I can update apps and such. I can download
content from NLS bard. I just can't use it as a phone. My guess would be
the card would probably still be in place. As long as it's doing what I
want it to do, I don't care if it has a card or not. It's now not an iPhone
and acts like an iPod. That's all I can tell you. Sorry I can't add more.

The way you would tell what apps are checked if the install button changes
to will install after checking each app.

That is what it is showing on my mac on iTunes.
I don't if it is going to show the same on windows.
I could be wfrong so try at your own risk.

I feel like I should know the answer to this question, but I don't.

I'm getting a new iPhone today but will probably go for something with
less storage than what I currently have. I use my phone for listening

Re: Farkle

2015-01-09 Thread Charles Rivard
I think your best course of action would be to listen to the podcast found
at

www.applevis.com

It is a demo of the games and how the app works. By the way, this app can
be played on an equal basis by both blind and sighted gamers.

Recently my seven-year-old grand daughter expressed interest in a game
called Farkle. ?
A few weeks prior, there had been several messages on this list
regarding the Farkle game, but I paid no attention at the time. Since I
am uncertain as to how to search the archives of this group, please
could someone give me a capsule synopsis of the game's accessibility and
a general description of how it is played.

Thanks.

Re: Farkle

2015-01-09 Thread Charles Rivard
The game ends when 1 player reaches 10,000 or more and the other player does
not exceed that score on their next turn. During this last turn, they must
continue rolling the remaining dice until they win or they Farkle.

The ap you want is Dice World. It includes Farkle, among five other dice
games, and is not only accessible but includes features specifically for
VoiceOver users. It's still a fully sighted game, though.

Farkle is pretty easy, once you play it some and get the rules down pat. Here
they are:

  * you have six dice to roll the first time. You may roll again as many times
as you like, so long as at least one die is worth points.
  * Before rolling again, you must "set aside" at least one die.
  * Three or more of any single number is worth points (three ones, four fives,
that kind of thing). Twos, threes, fours, fives, and sixes are worth 100 times
the value,, doubled for as many dice as you have showing that value, after
three dice. So, three dice showing 2 is worth 2*100=200, but five twos are
worth 2*100=200, doubled for the fourth die is 400, doubled for the fifth die
is worth 800.
  * A similar system is used for ones, but they are worth more. Three ones
yields a score of 1000, which doubles for every 1 after those first three. Four
ones is worth 2000, for instance.
  * For the above two rules to apply, the dice must be rolled at once. You
can't hold back two ones, roll a third one your next roll, and call it a
thousand points.
  * You can stop rolling anytime you like, after your first roll. If you roll
the dice and get no points, you have a "Farkle" and all points you've gained
during your turn are lost. Deciding not to roll again or getting a Farkle are
the only two ways to end your turn.
  * The game is over when one player's score hits ten thousand.

Numbered Buttons in Moxie Game: What Numbering System?

2015-01-09 Thread Teresa Cochran
I'm really enjoying Moxie, but I'm curious about the button-numbering scheme,
which doesn't have any rhyme or reason I can find. The first digit seems to
correspond to the row number, but not always. Sometimes when I select a buttn
the numbering will jump from 30 to 40. Any idea what the reasoning behind the
numbers is?

Thanks,
Teresa

Re: Selecting text from a website with bluetooth keyboard.

2015-01-09 Thread Teresa Cochran
Selecting text when not in an edit field is hit and miss. You may have to use
the three-finger-quadruple-tap Voiceover method to copy the last spoken chunk
of text to the clipboard. Another thing I do occasionally is select all the
text, then copy and paste it and edit out the extraneous stuff.

You can switch to it by turning the rotor clockwise or counter clock wise.
If you want web elements like links buttons text fields form controlsyou

If you want the edit option to show up in the rotor you have to be in a text
field where you can type and edit text.
If you want options like links headings braille screen input punctuation words
characters lines form controls tables buttons and other items to show up in the
rotor.
Go to settings.
Next go to general.
Next go to accessibility.
Next go to voiceover.
Next go to rotor.
Then double tap on the item you want to add to the rotor.
If you swipe to the item and it says selected then it is already added to the
rotor.
If the item doesn’t say select after it’s name is announced that means you can
double tap on it to add it to the rotor.
Now if you have already added items to the rotor then if you want items like
form controls buttons text fields links and other web elements to show up then
you need to be in safari for the web elements to show up.

RE: hilighting and selecting and copying a text with the Apple keyboard.

2015-01-09 Thread Deidre Muccio
I am strictly using the keypad on the phone. So that means that is
why I never heard of those commands. Does that also mean those options
cannot be put in the rotor for use with the phone keypad and editing?

I'm not sure where you're confused. The list you quote is a mixture of
bluetooth keyboard commands and touch screen commands. I'm not sure if that
will help or not. Do you have a bluetooth keyboard? If so, it may make sense
for someone to sort that out for you. If not, it's probably best just to
ignore that message. Remember to read the message in context. It's sometimes
tough with hijacked threads and all, but that might help clear up some of
the confusion.

Re: the rotor

2015-01-09 Thread Isaac Hebert
Now if you have already added items to the rotor then if you want items like
form controls buttons text fields links and other web elements to show up then
you need to be in safari for the web elements to show up.

comcast Iphone app

2015-01-09 Thread Eden Kizer
Hello, I am a new comcast customer, i was talking a little aoubt the TV
guide thing which is not the app, but I also have the remote app. The
search feature on it would let me voice search last night but not today,
and I reinstalled, made sure mike was turned on and it kept saying there
was a problem with your voice search. Does anyone have experience with
hthis, can't I search with my stupid iOS device keyboard it doesn't seem
so and even if you can, the IPhone doesn't tell you what is showing up
on your TV screen. The TV talking guide sometimes works to tell me this,
but as everyone nows, that's still in beta so I am just trying to make
these apps work. Everyone at comcast says their stuff is so accessible
and have an accessibility line, but everyone I talk to is just reading
the same manual I can, and none of them are blind so I am feeling lost.
If someone can help, i'd be very very appreciative.

I am going to do a podcast review of their services so I want to make
sure I give an accurate representation as to how well something works.
I want to make sure the issues I am having are not mine alone or find
out how to fix them so I can write a review that accurately reflects its
usability as I've seen numerous people write inaccurate ones mostly
saying things are not accessible when they are. In this case, i am
being told by the company it's accessible, but I am having trouble. The
comcast TV app seems to work fine, but the remote one is somebody's idea
of a joke so far.

Terry,
Not sure if I'm understanding exactly what you want here, but I will throw
in my two pennyworths:if you want to edit or extract text from an email
message, four example, you can opt to reply to that message which will then
put the cursor at the beginning of the new message in new reply that you are
editing see you can then use the rotor to find edit and then select all and
carry on from there. Obviously you don't have toactually reply you can
always cancel but you you would have added to the clipboard that which you
were looking for.another way, and this one I can use, once in an edit field
or even in a message not in reply mode, if I'd just touch the centre of the
screen to draw attention to even just one word of text or even just one
letter of text and then slide two fingers apart on the screen I might get
that letter or word, depending on the mode on the rotor, selected. Once I
have something selected, I can then find edit on the rotor and work away
from there.

Hope this helps and is vaguely clear,
Sandy

across wifi but I don’t want to do this.

Re: How to tell which apps I have checked in iTunes 12

2015-01-09 Thread Kimber Gardner
Sieghard,

You are exactly right. I was in my apps library (control 7) rather
than in the device.

Thanks all for the correction.

Re: hilighting and selecting and copying a text with the Apple keyboard.

2015-01-09 Thread Sandratomkins
Terry,
Not sure if I'm understanding exactly what you want here, but I will throw in
my two pennyworths:if you want to edit or extract text from an email message,
four example, you can opt to reply to that message which will then put the
cursor at the beginning of the new message in new reply that you are editing
see you can then use the rotor to find edit and then select all and carry on
from there. Obviously you don't have toactually reply you can always cancel but
you you would have added to the clipboard that which you were looking
for.another way, and this one I can use, once in an edit field or even in a
message not in reply mode, if I'd just touch the centre of the screen to draw
attention to even just one word of text or even just one letter of text and
then slide two fingers apart on the screen I might get that letter or word,
depending on the mode on the rotor, selected. Once I have something selected, I
can then find edit on the rotor and work away from there.

Hope this helps and is vaguely clear,
Sandy

Re: bluetooth hand set

2015-01-09 Thread RobH.
I had a handset as a present a year or so back, never did use it. But
tempted to dig it out now, digging it out of pocket has mileage over
digging the whole phone out. Saves being perpetually in ear buds or trying
to fit them when a call comes in;  just snatch up hand set and press button;
the simplicity appeals to me, finally. Might be an answer to that thread
about unreliable double-taps, and all that other answering a call thread.

RobH, off to look for it.

Hi Tracy,

Why not get some sort of case you put your iPhone in which is larger? I even
heard about cases which are sort of like an old style handset on the outside
and you iPhone is inside.
Using Bluetooth is always a compromise, usually a fairly large compromise if
you are talking about inexpensive bluetooth devices and while I understand
some list members feel their earpiece or handset is perfect and introduces 0
delay, I have yet to find one. Sure, the delay may not be as noticeable for
a call or a few swipes or taps, but if you type and are practiced enough to
have reasonable speed it's a big pain in the neck.

Sieghard

Hi all, does anyone have good experiences with a bluetooth hand set for
their iDevices? Preferably something that is like holding a traditional
phone. I am not a big fan of speaker phone, so that eliminates several
options, and I don’t want a headset while in my house.

So many mixed to bad reviews on Amazon.

Thank you,
Traci
