RE: [Bulk] accessibility of Viber

2015-01-19 Thread Don Risavy, jr.
Vipre is a computer security program for Viruses, spyware, malware etc. not a
phone service like Skype.
But use Vipre for all my computers and it's fully accessible or accessible
enough to be able to use it within screen readers.
Would highly recommend it and you also can subscribe for life time where
doesn't ever expire on you or have to renew any subscription.

There are a few things more about the 6 I am not happy with. VO cuts

If not for the 64 gg I probably should have updated to a 5S instead.
I still prefer the tidiness of the smaller screen layout and the thicker

I too have had trouble answering and hanging up calls since getting my
iPhone 6. The two finger double (which always worked on my 4s running the
old iOS) does nothing. Neither can I locate an answer icon on the screen
when the phone rings. Though I have other small issues, the call connect and
disconnect problem is by far the most serious.

far it is working but things usually seem to when I first do them, then it
begins reverting back to bad behavior. The case isn't the problem...I've

Here's hoping that reach ability being on was the problem.

Ann,

One more thing:

Until you are comfortable with the new phone, I suggest that you disable the
Reach ability feature.

To do this:

1.
From the Settings menu, select General.

2.
Select Accessibility.

3.
Single-Finger Double-Tap Reach ability and make certain it is set to Off.

Re: moving iTunes library from one computer to another

2015-01-19 Thread Kliph
Hello, before I started storing my library on a NAS, this is what I did.
1. Open up your music folder and find the iTunes folder.
2. Copy it with control C
3. Asuming you have a USB external drive or Thumb stick plugged in, locate it
and copy the folder there
4. Once it’s finished, disconnect from old machine.
5. Plug in to new machine
6. Locate and find external device, open it, and copy it with control C, or if
you would like to completely move it, hit control x.
6. Open your music folder, and paste it there with control V
Now when you open iTunes, hold down the shift key, it could be control, haven’t
used windows in a awhile. But hold down the proper key to change or point your
library to the folder in music you just moved or copied. If you do it
correctly, it will load up as if it were always on that new machine. HTH

However, only about 5% of these cds were purchased via iTunes, the rest were
ripped using iTunes or windows media player.

How can I move the intire library to my new Windows8.1 machine?

Uses for Be My Eyes

2015-01-19 Thread Sarah Clark
I love this app. My husband had actually thought of doing an app like this a
couple years ago, but we didn't have the resources to do it, so I am very
excited that it finally exists.

A few people have asked what sorts of things Be My Eyes can help with, so I
wanted to share a few examples.

get expiration dates on food items
Identify a product that has no bar code
find out if a block of cheese has mold
find out if a shirt has a stain
get instructions etc from prescription labels
read the results of a home pregnancy test (beneficial since this usually has to
be done early in the morning with the first urine, before you'd normally have
any sighted help around to help)
identify buttons on things like a remote, an appliance or piece of electronics
read electronics displays

And we've had a few instances where our computer has crashed and rebooting
causes a dialogue box to come up that we have to make a selection in before it
will launch Windows and the desktop. So we've been stuck with no speech output
until getting past this dialogue box, and have needed to find sighted
assistance, either in person or via FaceTime.
Also one time in the past I had to give myself a new medication via injection,
and had no one available to help me fill the syringe to the correct dose, and
luckily I was able to find someone to FaceTime with who was able to watch me
slowly fill the syringe and tell me when it reached the dosage line I had to
fill it to. Both of these things can now be done with this app.

And there are s many other things it can help with. Basically its
limitless. Pretty much anything for which it would be useful to have sight.
This is the closest thing to having sight -- being able to get help in real
time, at the very time when it is needed, instead of having to wait hours or
days for it.

Hi all,

On Saturday afternoon my husband and I went to the ATT store and he
bought my belated Christmas present...a new iPhone 6 Plus! The lady who
assisted us was very helpful and knowledgable and got my phone up and
running with no problems. Once at home, I began adding apps, changing
settings to my preference, etc., etc. There was one brief episode of my
screen not responding when I attempted to do anything such as double tap,
swipe, flick, or scroll, but it straightened out when I rebooted the phone.
On Sunday morning...when I received a phone call...there was no way I could
answer it even though the caller ID spoke the information...because there
were no buttons on the screen. When I would attempt to unlock the phone by
either pressing the home or wake/sleep button, it would say unlock but there
was no button to tap on. As a matter of fact, the screen appeared to be
blank! I had no trouble using a bluetooth keyboard, but the screen is quite
baffling. Once in a while it will act normally but...most of the time...it's
as though it were blank. My husband says he can see the icons but they
didn't appear to work for him either when I turned off VoiceOver. I reset
settings to the factory defaults but that made no difference. I even
wondered if the screen protector...which I purchased yesterday...might have
been the problem but don't see how it could. I thought by turning screen
curtain off that it might help...and also making the screen a bit brighter
than zero and...though they appeared to help for a minute or two...it
reverted back to its strange behavior.

I didn't mean to write a book - just wanted to get all the pertinent
info for anyone who might have a clue what's going on. Thanks to those who
have read this far, and I appreciate any advice or suggestions anyone might
have. Does it sound like I might have to give up my new best friend for
another one? Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Uses for Be My Eyes

2015-01-19 Thread Jane
Good evening.

I just want to add one cautionary note: Do not use this app to have someone
read off credit card numbers, bank statements, etc. That makes us far more
vulnerable.

Jane

I love this app. My husband had actually thought of doing an app like this a
couple years ago, but we didn't have the resources to do it, so I am very
 excited that it finally exists.

A few people have asked what sorts of things Be My Eyes can help with, so I
wanted to share a few examples.

get expiration dates on food items
Identify a product that has no bar code
find out if a block of cheese has mold
find out if a shirt has a stain
get instructions etc from prescription labels
read the results of a home pregnancy test (beneficial since this usually has
to be done early in the morning with the first urine, before you'd normally
have any sighted help around to help)
identify buttons on things like a remote, an appliance or piece of electronics
 read electronics displays

And we've had a few instances where our computer has crashed and rebooting
causes a dialogue box to come up that we have to make a selection in before
it will launch Windows and the desktop. So we've been stuck with no speech
output until getting past this dialogue box, and have needed to find sighted
assistance, either in person or via FaceTime.
Also one time in the past I had to give myself a new medication via
injection, and had no one available to help me fill the syringe to the
correct dose, and luckily I was able to find someone to FaceTime with who was
able to watch me slowly fill the syringe and tell me when it reached the
dosage line I had to fill it to. Both of these things can now be done with
 this app.

And there are s many other things it can help with. Basically its
limitless. Pretty much anything for which it would be useful to have sight.
This is the closest thing to having sight -- being able to get help in real
time, at the very time when it is needed, instead of having to wait hours or
 days for it.

I too have had trouble answering and hanging up calls since getting my
iPhone 6. The two finger double (which always worked on my 4s running
the old iOS) does nothing. Neither can I locate an answer icon on the
screen when the phone rings. Though I have other small issues, the
call connect and disconnect problem is by far the most serious.

 Hi all,

On Saturday afternoon my husband and I went to the ATT store and he
 bought
my belated Christmas present...a new iPhone 6 Plus! The lady who assisted
 us
was very helpful and knowledgable and got my phone up and running with no
problems. Once at home, I began adding apps, changing settings to my
preference, etc., etc. There was one brief episode of my screen not
responding when I attempted to do anything such as double tap, swipe,
 flick,
or scroll, but it straightened out when I rebooted the phone. On Sunday
 morning...when I received a phone call...there was no way I could answer
 it
even though the caller ID spoke the information...because there were no
buttons on the screen. When I would attempt to unlock the phone by either
pressing the home or wake/sleep button, it would say unlock but there was
 no
button to tap on. As a matter of fact, the screen appeared to be blank! I
had no trouble using a bluetooth keyboard, but the screen is quite
 baffling.
Once in a while it will act normally but...most of the time...it's as
 though
it were blank. My husband says he can see the icons but they didn't appear
to work for him either when I turned off VoiceOver. I reset settings to
 the
factory defaults but that made no difference. I even wondered if the
 screen
protector...which I purchased yesterday...might have been the problem but
don't see how it could. I thought by turning screen curtain off that it
might help...and also making the screen a bit brighter than zero
and...though they appeared to help for a minute or two...it reverted back
 to
 its strange behavior.

I didn't mean to write a book - just wanted to get all the pertinent info
for anyone who might have a clue what's going on. Thanks to those who have
read this far, and I appreciate any advice or suggestions anyone might
 have.
Does it sound like I might have to give up my new best friend for another
one? Thanks in advance for any help!

Is this the first time you've tried to export a file from KNFB Reader on this

If so, you have to pick the knfb doc type first, then cancel the process, then
go back and select plain text and it should work fine.
Or, make sure knfb is the only app running in case you are running into a

Hi Marie, do you have Skype or do you have long-distance calling to where you
can call back into the states if you don't live in the states? Because I think
from this point I may need to actually hear what your phone is saying when you
get into that area so that I can tell you what to cook on. I'm kind of lost
test where you are in the process.

Re: configuring wifi vs. cellular

2015-01-19 Thread Alex Hall
The iPhone will always use wifi it it is connected to it. Cellular only comes
in if the wifi drops and a different network can't be found. If wifi is
misbehaving on two devices, I'd look at your router; is the signal strong
enough? Might the channel your router is on be full of interference from other
networks or devices? Is the router okay, but the internet connection spotty
(something your ISP can help troubleshoot)?

I'm not sure. Maybe I am not hitting in a good spot? The accept button is
very easy to find though.
There are a few things more about the 6 I am not happy with. VO cuts

I've finished speaking. I'm wondering if moving the phone while holding it
while talking to Siri, for example, or moving to different apps creates some
kind of interrupt. The 4S never did this.
If not for the 64 gg I probably should have updated to a 5S instead.
I still prefer the tidiness of the smaller screen layout and the thicker
phone. Deidre

I too have had trouble answering and hanging up calls since getting my
iPhone 6. The two finger double (which always worked on my 4s running the
old iOS) does nothing. Neither can I locate an answer icon on the screen
when the phone rings. Though I have other small issues, the call connect and

Re: configuring wifi vs. cellular

2015-01-19 Thread susan
Hi Alex,
I admit to really not understanding these things, but that’s what I thought
should happen. It’s possible that there’s just too much traffic for the
bandwidth we have. We have two desktop computers connected to our router and my
dad’s caregiver has a laptop as well as a phone . She spends a lot of time on
skype or streaming movies especially in the evening, and if we are online at
the same time we have to do router resets. It’s worse than having teenagers ...
we never had this problem when our two were home, smile. At any rate, she may
be drawing from a different network. I was mostly wondering if I had missed
something in the settings, but from what you’ve said our best way to solve this
may be tto move, which is in the works, not for this reason. Anyway, thanks
for clarifying that for me.

Chris and Feliciano,
I thought I'd seen spotlight and handwriting paired in settings, but never
would have guessed handwriting had anything to do with searching for apps.
The rotor comes into play once again... it's remarkable. I've got Drop Box
on the phone now so I can copy my text files about how to use the phone in
there and read them with Voice Dream. Speaking of DB, installing Drop Box
was a little unclear since when I entered a password I wasn't sure was
correct the screen went green (according to a sighted person who was
present) and all that still showed on the screen was the log in and sign in
button. I don't remember if it said in progress at that point. I only knew
it was correct and had found my account because I got an e mail on my
computer saying an app wanted to share files. I do have to say that when I
tried a different password it said that one was incorrect, so I went back to
the first one and tried again. When I unlocked the phone this morning I
started hearing 50% and so on, and I assumed things were still being
uploaded to the phone. Clever phone alright.

And I forgot to mention that to bring up the Spotlight search as a VoiceOver
user, you can do a three finger swipe down on any home page.
Just don't touch the status bar first because then you obviously bring up
the Notification Center.

You can also use the handwriting mode to launch an app no matter where
it is. Make sure handwriting is in your roter, on a home page, turn
your roter to handwriting, start typing the app you want to launch,

configuring wifi vs. cellular

2015-01-19 Thread susan
Hi listers,
This may seem like a strange question, but how does my phone recognize whether
to use a wifi or cellular signal? I think I have wifi connected to my home
network as it seems to work with Safari, but in apps like Ootones or the BARD
app I get continual timeout messages when I attempt to download books or, in
the case of Ootunes can’t play high bitrate streams at all. Wifi has been
fiddly at times with my Ipod and I thought this would improve with the iphone,
but apparently not. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this? Tia.

Hi,

I have a 5S 32 gig with KNFB and I find that it works more efficiently if I
only have it running with as few other apps as necessary running in the
background. Out of habit, I will generally close any other apps that I do
not currently need mostly out of a desire to save battery, however, it has
over time become a part of my everyday phone habit now.

I know you have restored the phone, but have you tried to taco off and on
voiceover when this is happening? You can add voiceover as a accessibility
shortcut in the accessibility settings so that you can triple click home to
 toggle it on or off.

moving iTunes library from one computer to another

2015-01-19 Thread Robbie Miller
Hi all, I've got about 36 gigs of music on my old computer. All cds, and
all in their own appropriately named folders.

However, only about 5% of these cds were purchased via iTunes, the rest were
ripped using iTunes or windows media player.

How can I move the intire library to my new Windows8.1 machine?

Thanks for any help.

Hi all,

On Saturday afternoon my husband and I went to the ATT store and he bought my
belated Christmas present...a new iPhone 6 Plus! The lady who assisted us was
very helpful and knowledgable and got my phone up and running with no problems.
Once at home, I began adding apps, changing settings to my preference, etc.,

to do anything such as double tap, swipe, flick, or scroll, but it straightened
out when I rebooted the phone. On Sunday morning...when I received a phone

information...because there were no buttons on the screen. When I would attempt
to unlock the phone by either pressing the home or wake/sleep button, it would
say unlock but there was no button to tap on. As a matter of fact, the screen
appeared to be blank! I had no trouble using a bluetooth keyboard, but the
screen is quite baffling. Once in a while it will act normally but...most of
the time...it's as though it were blank. My husband says he can see the icons
but they didn't appear to work for him either when I turned off VoiceOver. I
reset settings to the factory defaults but that made no difference. I even
wondered if the screen protector...which I purchased yesterday...might have

curtain off that it might help...and also making the screen a bit brighter than
zero and...though they appeared to help for a minute or two...it reverted back

Re: configuring wifi vs. cellular

2015-01-19 Thread Alex Hall
We have three computers, a Roku stick, an iPad, and three iPhones all on our
network, not to mention a printer or two. smile That's a lot, and none of us
have trouble. So, unless your router is an older one or the data given to you
by your ISP is slow or low bandwidth, it may be interference from someone
else's router or other device. My first step would be to call your ISP, explain
what's going on, and see if they have suggestions, or at least an explanation.
If they don't, you could investigate getting a new router, assuming yours isn't
already relatively new. Wifi trouble is hard to pin down, because so many
factors influence it, but were it me, I'd start with my ISP.

I admit to really not understanding these things, but that’s what I thought
should happen. It’s possible that there’s just too much traffic for the

my dad’s caregiver has a laptop as well as a phone . She spends a lot of time
on skype or streaming movies especially in the evening, and if we are online
at the same time we have to do router resets. It’s worse than having
teenagers ... we never had this problem when our two were home, smile. At any
rate, she may be drawing from a different network. I was mostly wondering if
I had missed something in the settings, but from what you’ve said our best
way to solve this may be tto move, which is in the works, not for this
reason. Anyway, thanks for clarifying that for me.

The iPhone will always use wifi it it is connected to it. Cellular only comes
in if the wifi drops and a different network can't be found. If wifi is
misbehaving on two devices, I'd look at your router; is the signal strong
enough? Might the channel your router is on be full of interference from
other networks or devices? Is the router okay, but the internet connection
spotty (something your ISP can help troubleshoot)?

Re: moving iTunes library from one computer to another

I'd suggest following the instructions on a page like
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT4527 I did this myself a while ago, and
I think this is the page I used. BTW, I found it then and now with Google.

How can I move the intire library to my new Windows8.1 machine?

Thanks for any help.

RE: Strange behavior from my new iPhone 6 Plus

2015-01-19 Thread M. Taylor
Ann,

One more thing:

Until you are comfortable with the new phone, I suggest that you disable the
Reach ability feature.

To do this:

1.
From the Settings menu, select General.

2.
Select Accessibility.

3.
Single-Finger Double-Tap Reach ability and make certain it is set to Off.

Subject: Strange behavior from my new iPhone 6 Plus

Hi all,

On Saturday afternoon my husband and I went to the ATT store and he bought my
belated Christmas present...a new iPhone 6 Plus! The lady who assisted us was
very helpful and knowledgable and got my phone up and running with no problems.
Once at home, I began adding apps, changing settings to my preference, etc.,
etc. There was one brief episode of my screen not responding when I attempted
to do anything such as double tap, swipe, flick, or scroll, but it straightened
out when I rebooted the phone. On Sunday morning...when I received a phone
call...there was no way I could answer it even though the caller ID spoke the
information...because there were no buttons on the screen.
I even
wondered if the screen protector...which I purchased yesterday...might have
been the problem but don't see how it could. I thought by turning screen
curtain off that it might help...and also making the screen a bit brighter than
zero and...though they appeared to help for a minute or two...it reverted back
to its strange behavior.

I didn't mean to write a book - just wanted to get all the pertinent info for
anyone who might have a clue what's going on. Thanks to those who have read
this far, and I appreciate any advice or suggestions anyone might have. Does it
sound like I might have to give up my new best friend for another one? Thanks
in advance for any help!

Ann

Re: Updating credit card info

2015-01-19 Thread Joseph Hudson
Hi Marie, do you have Skype or do you have long-distance calling to where you
can call back into the states if you don't live in the states? Because I think
from this point I may need to actually hear what your phone is saying when you
get into that area so that I can tell you what to cook on. I'm kind of lost
test where you are in the process.
