I'm not sure then. Unless it's something to do with TouchID? Is it possible
that it read your fingerprint when you pressed the Home button to activate
Siri, so it already knows you are authorized?

I fell for the same silly mistake the person posting the message did.
If you don't use the same finger you used to set a fingerprint, it won't
work. But, if you hold the home button with a fingerprinted finger, it seems
like you've bypassed the security but you have not.
If anyone is worried about this, you can disable Siri access at the lock
screen under the touch id and pass code settings.

But, it looks quite secure if you either do not have a fingerprint set or use
a different finger.

Dodgy Apple BT keyboard on/off button!

2015-04-27 Thread Sandratomkins
Hallo,

I have had my BT Apple Wireless keyboard for some years now, However, I
haven't used it much of late, getting rather good with the dictation function
on the phone. Well, thinking to brush up on my keyboard skills, I dug it out
and it stopped working. So, I put some new batteries in and away we went! But,
and this is intermittent, I am having problems with the on/off button, it can
take several attempts at working. I was just wondering, does anyone have
suggestions, in a hardware sort of way, for me to rejuvenate the switch? I am
thinking, for example, WD40 or some such cure-all?

Thanks for any ideas, I am not at home to just dumping a thing because it
isn't as young as it once was, who knows, someone might apply the same logic to
myself! Does anyone know of a human equivalent of WD40?

Sandy.

I read, a day or two ago, such a story from Apple Insider. Perhaps it is

2015-04-27 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi alan,

Actually, if you have the track in your library and it's not from iTunes, you
can still download the iTunes version during the time you're subscribed to
iTunes Match, and you can keep that copy even after the subscription runs out.

Best,
Anna

apps compatible with 64-bit architecture so a new iPod Touch will definitely
get at least the A7 processor which is currently in the iPhone 5S and my
guess is that it will get Touch Id and a better camera. I doubt it would

 Hello Everyone,

As I have posted, I support several people on both iOS and OSX as both
 clients and friends.

One of my friends, a fellow VoiceOver user, until now, has fervently
 refused
to setup either a Touch-ID or PIN on her iPhone 6, despite my suggestions
 to
the contrary. She said she thought it was too much trouble.

Today, she called me and told me that she, upon returning from a short
vacation with her family, accidentally left her phone in her sister's
 house,
 approximately 800 miles away.

While her sister will FedEx the phone back to her, my friend was afraid
 that
her sister would and, according to her, most likely did, snoop on her
 phone.

She truly laments not having taken the time to setup her Touch-ID and
 password.

I'm tellin' you, lock it down before it's too late (smile).

If you set up Voiceover to come on with a triple click of the home button then
this will work also in the lock screen. Same goes for SIRI, you can ask SIRI to

I have a password set up on my iPhone as well as the fingerprint ID the numbers
for the password are set up just like the phone numbers when you dial a phone
number the same same keypad layout so but if you have the capability of sending
the fingerprint and the password number I do both because I've had it where I
can voiceover got turned off and thus I couldn't tell what the numbers were for
the keypad I would let me turn voiceover on so I had my fingerprint to open up
the sting able to turn voiceover on so that is the reason why I would have both
because I've had to use it since the fingerprint thing started okay so this is

Re: Any battery ffull notification app?

2015-04-27 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello. Get the app Enotify and you can set various different alerts for certain
types of emails, battery alerts, and data usage just to name a few. The app is
completely voice over friendly and the developer is good at responding to
suggestions and bug reports. If necessary I can provide the app store link,
however if you simply search for the app name as I wrote it you should be able
to find it just fine. I believe the developers name is Josh but I can't
remember the last name.

2015-04-27 Thread Ahmed Khater
Hi all,

Today, I experienced a strange problem whereby my iPhone 5S wasn’t able to
download a free app from the App Store. So, I decided to sign out and then in
again to my apple ID. But, suddenly, I haven’t able to sign-in again. I was
able to sign in using my Itunes V12 on my laptop and through the Apple store
web site, https://store.apple.com

Is there any possibile explanation to my current situation and is there a
solution to this problem?

Thank you.

Notifications on Apple Watch and Iphone

2015-04-27 Thread Deb Lewis
Hi:
I'm noticing a really odd thing wth Apple Watch and notifications.
Before getting Apple Watch, when I got an email or a tweet it would
speak the sender of the email and probably half of the tweet. This
would happen out loud because of notifications turned on in the lock
screen. Now, the notifications are there if I unlock the phone, but
they're no longer read out loud. Instead they go to the watch, but it
takes several minutes for this to happen. I have another phone which
is not paired with the watch and is mail notifications still read out
loud and immediately when themail is pushed form Exchange. But on the
phone with the watch, it's several minutes and no longer hear the
sender'sname spoken, the phone is silent. Is this what is supposed to
happen? If so, I may turn notifications for mil and tweets off on the
watch because although I like the little haptic nudge, I don't like
having to fiddle with the watch to find out whether I care about the
notification.

RE: [Bulk] Re: ICloud and apple pay questions

Hello Jeremy,

The easiest way to fix iCloud is probably to delete the account on your
phone and then sign in with the one on your computer. When you delete the
account, you'll be asked if you want to keep the data on your phone. Choose
to keep it. Then if there's any data there that isn't in your regular iTunes
account, it hsould be copied over.

As for scanning a credit card, I haven't done that, but I have scanned in
iTunes gift cards. If it works the same way, there's no button. You just
choose to scan, and the phone starts looking for a credit card. Then put the
phone on top of your credit card so that the camera lens is in the middle.
Slowly start raising the phone up. It will let you know when it's able to
get the information from your card.

Best,

Anna

address. I am not able to find the way to change it. On my computer under
ITunes, my apple ID is the correct and current email address.

Anyone know how to change it on the phone itself for ICloud?

Secondly, under apple pay, it says I can scan in new cards. When I click on
this, I am not seeing a button or anything to scan in the card so that I
don't have to manually enter the card information.

Any tips on this as well would greatly be appreciated.

Re: [Bulk] A question about iTunes match.

2015-04-27 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Alan, the only content you have access to as an iTunes Match subscriber is
content you already own, either through purchasing it from iTunes itself, or by
going through the quite lengthy process of uploading your own music to it. It's
called iTunes match because a series of algorithms try to match what you upload
with content iTunes has in the store. When it finds a match, it replaces the
copy you uploaded with its copy.
Tagging is key here. For example, a few years ago, I digitised my vinyl
collection. I tagged it correctly, that is to say I created tags for every file
with the artist, the title of the song, and the album it came from. When I
uploaded 25,000 songs to iTunes Match, which sadly is the maximum content
you're allowed to upload that wasn't purchased from Apple, i was thrilled to
note that a lot of the vinyl I uploaded was replaced by high bit-rate, crackle
free copies from Apple's library. Absolutely fantastic. So I deleted my vinyl
rips and downloaded the Apple versions. I get to keep them, even if at some
time in the future I choose not to renew my iTunes Match subscription.
It's quite the bargain.

iTunes Match is not like a typical streaming service. It basically lets you
treat the music you get from places other than iTunes as though it was
iTunes music. It goes through your music collection, and when it encounters
songs available in the iTunes store, it makes copies of those songs
available to you. When it encounters songs not available in the iTunes
store, it copies those songs to iCloud. If the copies of the songs in the
iTunes store that you have are of lower quality than those in the store, you
can delete your versions and replace them with the ones from the iTunes
store. You can stream or download any of the music to your iPhone. And if
you stop using the service, you still have all the music, including any
tracks that you downloaded from the iTunes store.

There are disadvantages in using a VPN if all you want to do is watch popular
TV services. VPNs encrypt the traffic and add an additional point before they
reach you, so they can have speed implications.
Also, they need to be logged into. Apple TV doesn't support them either so
you'll need to either set up the VPN at the router level, or use alternative
 methods.
Most people will be better off using a service that intercepts DNS requests,
which have none of these disadvantages.
They'll only work with the popular services though, so for complete access,
it's ideal to have access to both a DNS interception service and VPN.

Re: Notifications on Apple Watch and Iphone

2015-04-27 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Deb,

Yes, I think this is the expected behavior, as it's what's happening to me, and
it's what the user guide says will happen. You can turn off individual
notifications to the watch, though.

Best,
Anna

RE: [Bulk] A question about iTunes match.

2015-04-27 Thread Alan Lemly
Jonathan,

Thanks for this further explanation and I must say I'm wowed by your
perseverance at digitizing and properly tagging your vinyl collection.
That's great you were able to get the songs matched by iTunes at the higher
quality.

Hi Alan, the only content you have access to as an iTunes Match subscriber
is content you already own, either through purchasing it from iTunes itself,
or by going through the quite lengthy process of uploading your own music to
it. It's called iTunes match because a series of algorithms try to match
what you upload with content iTunes has in the store. When it finds a match,
it replaces the copy you uploaded with its copy.

Tagging is key here. For example, a few years ago, I digitised my vinyl
collection. I tagged it correctly, that is to say I created tags for every
file with the artist, the title of the song, and the album it came from.
When I uploaded 25,000 songs to iTunes Match, which sadly is the maximum
content you're allowed to upload that wasn't purchased from Apple, i was
thrilled to note that a lot of the vinyl I uploaded was replaced by high
bit-rate, crackle free copies from Apple's library. Absolutely fantastic. So
I deleted my vinyl rips and downloaded the Apple versions. I get to keep
them, even if at some time in the future I choose not to renew my iTunes
Match subscription.

It's quite the bargain.

Hi alan,

iTunes Match is not like a typical streaming service.

Anna,

Maybe you can help me understand iTunes Match by answering this. I think of
Match as being a type of streaming music service. My understanding is that
music streaming services will let you play their content located in the
cloud as long as you're paying their subscription fee. I didn't think these
streaming services let you download anything to your device as you do when
you purchase digital songs.

Is my understanding correct?

Thanks in advance.

To do the trick is to ask Seri what the temperature is.
In the lower right hand corner pass the times of the day with the

Click on the button that will open the internet or safari.

Re: Iphones no longer secure

2015-04-27 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Joney, this is easily addressed. You can prevent Siri from being used
without unlocking your device.
To enable this, in iOS 8 you'll find it in Settings, Touch ID and Passcode,
under the Allow Access when locked section. Turn Siri off from there. Actually
I would turn pretty much everything off in that section.

 Hello Jeremy,

The easiest way to fix iCloud is probably to delete the account on your phone
and then sign in with the one on your computer. When you delete the account,
you'll be asked if you want to keep the data on your phone. Choose to keep
it. Then if there's any data there that isn't in your regular iTunes account,
 it hsould be copied over.

It will let you know when it's able to get
 the information from your card.

 Best,
 Anna

Anyone know how to change it on the phone itself for ICloud?

Secondly, under apple pay, it says I can scan in new cards. When I click on

don't have to manually enter the card information.
Any tips on this as well would greatly be appreciated.

I am writing this in mBraille as a

A three finger flick left dismisses the keyboard.
A three finger flick right switches to

room plugged in and charging. It is about 20 feet away from where I am
sitting. I'm also wearing a Bluetooth headset so that I can hear
VoiceOver. I can not detect any lag between what I am typing on the
keyboard and what I am hearing through the headset.

As others have said, normally you do not have to pair the keyboard again
just because you've turned it off and then back on.

I do not carry a Bluetooth keyboard around with me, but if I am near one I
am more likely to use it to access the iPod Touch than I am to use the
touch screen. This does not mean I have anything against using the touch
screen, it simply means I use whatever is most effective at the moment.

I do not have the latest hardware, and rarely use my iPod running iOS 8.3,
so can not say from personal experience whether the latest iPhones running
the latest iOs have any problems with Bluetooth in general, or Bluetooth
 keyboards in particular.

Touch. One thing is for sure, Apple is forcing all developers to make their
apps compatible with 64-bit architecture so a new iPod Touch will definitely
get at least the A7 processor which is currently in the iPhone 5S and my
guess is that it will get Touch Id and a better camera. I doubt it would
become a Apple Pay device, though.

I currently have both an ipod touch 5th generation and the first generation

the first generation ipad mini probably won't be able to run ios 9.

I read, a day or two ago, such a story from Apple Insider. Perhaps it is my

pessimistic nature, but the story had the feeling of a rumor or wishful
thinking. The iPod Touch is my preference, so if a new one did come out,
I'd probably get one. I'm not holding my breath though (Smile).

Hey Sieghard and everyone,

Some of you may know me from my AllAccess.US talking menus app or from my
AutoRingtone Talking Caller ID apps.

But you may not know that for the past seven years or so, I have been a
Contributing Editor for iPhone Life Magazine.

I can assure you there's nothing fishy about the contest. They're a good bunch

I got my Apple Watch on Friday and have submitted four apps so far. I hope to

2015-04-27 Thread Alan Lemly
Anna,

Maybe you can help me understand iTunes Match by answering this. I think of
Match as being a type of streaming music service. My understanding is that
music streaming services will let you play their content located in the cloud
as long as you're paying their subscription fee. I didn't think these streaming
services let you download anything to your device as you do when you purchase
digital songs.

Is my understanding correct?

RE: Iphones no longer secure

2015-04-27 Thread Ron Pelletier
Amann,

I do respect your opinion but, please allow me to respectfully say that you are
all wet. What you are saying is that it is worth nothing to lock the phone.
Anyone knows that, no matter how many locks you have on your house, you will
never stop an experienced burglar from getting in. I have an alarm system on my
apartment and I always lock my door when I leave. I often analyze how easily a
professional could get in here if he or she really wanted to come in. Do you
really think that everyone who has an alarm system on their house absolutely
believe that nobody can go in? We all know but its an extra layer of
protection that keeps the punks out. Same thing with your phone. Punks won't
be able to get into your phone but an experienced hacker will always find the
way but, if they are that good, its not worth the investment of their time for
such a small item. A pro would go into a store for its diamonds but he won't
risk coming into my place for a computer and a TV.

Hi,

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with a number of your points. You said:

On 4/26/15, Aman Singer aman.sin...@gmail.com wrote:
A smartphone is nothing more or less than a computer. The
passcode/fingerprint is simply security theatre, it makes things look
secure and may be secure against someone who doesn't have Google, but
it is not secure in fact. Once the phone is in the hands of someone
who wants and is willing to bypass the security, nothing is secure in
fact, it only depends on how much trouble the attacker is willing to
 go to.
Not security theater at all. If you are seriously insinuating that a casual
Google search will allow your run of the mill mugger to bypass your passcode
and or touch ID in a way that allows them to access your data then I'd be very
interested in hearing some specifics. Lets not forget that the hardware hack
that got a lot of media attention a month or so ago no longer works.
As a side note, I'd wager that my iPhone is more secure than your average
computer due to the amount of control that Apple has at a very low level.
This is one of the reasons why I have no passcode on my phone, it
offers very little extra security but does offer an inconvenience when
I want to unlock the phone. I do not keep any secure data on my phone,
any data that I object to the public having access to, simply because
the chance of theft is too high and, as we see, the passcode is not of
 much use.
Whilst I agree that to a certain extent where there's a will there's a way,
unless you've been annoying any 4 letter agencies, I personally feel that
saying that a passcode offers very little extra security is incorrect. Lets not
forget that the workaround that was posted to the list has now been proven to
be ineffective.
Additionally, with all due respect, whilst we could debate the definition of
secure data, I'd wager that you might not be aware of quite how much data iOS
stores without making it overly clear to you.
For example, do you really consider your wireless network password/s, where
you've traveled to and any contact information data that you wouldn't mind
sharing with the public?

Cheers,
Ben.

Re: connecting iPhone to tv

2015-04-27 Thread Jonathan Mosen
There are disadvantages in using a VPN if all you want to do is watch popular
TV services. VPNs encrypt the traffic and add an additional point before they
reach you, so they can have speed implications.
Also, they need to be logged into. Apple TV doesn't support them either so
you'll need to either set up the VPN at the router level, or use alternative
methods.
Most people will be better off using a service that intercepts DNS requests,
which have none of these disadvantages.
They'll only work with the popular services though, so for complete access,
it's ideal to have access to both a DNS interception service and VPN.

Re: ICloud and apple pay questions

2015-04-27 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hello Jeremy,

The easiest way to fix iCloud is probably to delete the account on your phone
and then sign in with the one on your computer. When you delete the account,
you'll be asked if you want to keep the data on your phone. Choose to keep it.
Then if there's any data there that isn't in your regular iTunes account, it
hsould be copied over.

As for scanning a credit card, I haven't done that, but I have scanned in
iTunes gift cards. If it works the same way, there's no button. You just choose
to scan, and the phone starts looking for a credit card. Then put the phone on
top of your credit card so that the camera lens is in the middle. Slowly start
raising the phone up. It will let you know when it's able to get the
information from your card.

Best,
Anna

RE: connecting iPhone to tv

2015-04-27 Thread Cristóbal
The wife and I watched the German broadcast version of the Klitschko fight live
this past weekend. It was boring as hell, but using the RTL channel and VPN app
on the iPad and throwing to the Apple TV works well. I think too she can log
into the German Netflix with her US ID, but I haven’t really asked her if she
uses the VPN in that instance or how she goes about it. She’s only done that a
few times since really, there’s not much different overseas Netflix content
that’s different from the US. That or it’s just doved which neither one of us
can stand anyway.

 Hi,

Look into audio interfaces such as the ones discussed on this

 Cheers,

Re: [Bulk] Re: A question about iTunes match.

2015-04-27 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi alan,

iTunes Match is not like a typical streaming service. It basically lets you
treat the music you get from places other than iTunes as though it was iTunes
music. It goes through your music collection, and when it encounters songs
available in the iTunes store, it makes copies of those songs available to you.
When it encounters songs not available in the iTunes store, it copies those
songs to iCloud. If the copies of the songs in the iTunes store that you have
are of lower quality than those in the store, you can delete your versions and
replace them with the ones from the iTunes store. You can stream or download
any of the music to your iPhone. And if you stop using the service, you still
have all the music, including any tracks that you downloaded from the iTunes
store.

HTH,
Anna

 Anna,

Maybe you can help me understand iTunes Match by answering this. I think of
Match as being a type of streaming music service. My understanding is that
music streaming services will let you play their content located in the cloud
as long as you're paying their subscription fee. I didn't think these
streaming services let you download anything to your device as you do when
 you purchase digital songs.

 Is my understanding correct?

 Thanks in advance.

 Hi,

The music you bought from iTunes will still be available in iCloud. Once
iTunes Match expires, you'll need to sync with iTunes to get other music
