dice world

2015-09-09 Thread Jeremy Gilley
Hi,

So, trying to change some information in my account settings, and when I
click on save, it keeps telling me there is an internet problem.

I am at home where there is a wireless connection.

There shouldn't be any problems.

Any suggestions as to why I am getting this problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

All of my download attempts on my iPhone 6 have frozen when they reach the 75%

able to successfully download using BARD Mobile on their iDevice since the
system returned? Did you have to do anything special to successfully download

Thanks for anything you can share.

First, if you are a Fantastical user, don't buy the iPad version. Just use the
iPhone version.
If you check the model number in settings, general, about, and then google it,
or just call the head of your user group, you can find out which one it is.

Re: moderator contact

2015-09-09 Thread Christopher Chaltain
So far it's just one person asking for information on contacting the
moderator to get permission to post something for sale. I think it's
premature to start worrying about where this is going and the list
becoming a generic buy and sell list. I'm comfortable with letting Cara,
the list owner, handle this.

I also like the fact that they're going to get permission from the list
owner before making such a post. Behavior like this should be
encouraged, if for no other reason, to prevent debates like this from
taking up list space.

Ouch, maybe I'm misreading this, but this seems unnecessarily rude. I
don't see any reason anyone needs to imply that someone else on the list

can't answer a question without being rude.

I completed the download that had been paused for several days. The get books

Interestingly, Siri did not tell me when the Apple event starts, merely
directed me to the Apple website. The "give me a hint"
responses are funny, but you'd think Siri could tell you something as
simple as the start time.

I don't see any reason anyone needs to imply that someone else on the

can't answer a question without being rude.

BARD Mobile Download Success Since System Return?

2015-09-09 Thread Alan Lemly
Hello List,

I know it normally takes BARD a few days to return to full functionality
following a system outage but I wanted to check the results of others on
this list who have attempted book downloads using BARD Mobile since the
system returned yesterday.

All of my download attempts on my iPhone 6 have frozen when they reach the
75% mark and I'm curious what others are experiencing. Has anyone on this
list been able to successfully download using BARD Mobile on their iDevice
since the system returned? Did you have to do anything special to
successfully download or did you just proceed normally? I hesitate to
uninstall and reinstall the app when I don't really think that will correct
the problem and I wanted to check here to see what others on this list have
experienced. I've written BARD Support too.

Thanks for anything you can share.

suspect that I'm not alone! LOL! Go on, admit it. You do too! LOL!

I knew that bard was back again when I opened the bard app on my iPad Air. My

folder with titles so I knew bard was back. Now the question is, will it stay

Recommended apps for an iPad Mini

2015-09-09 Thread Wayne Merritt
All,
I realize the answer to this question will vary between users. Last
night, my wife won an iPad Mini at our local Mac users group meeting.
We will share the iPad mini. She is sighted and I am a voiceOver user.
I know that there are iPad specific apps out there. What are some that
people like and recommend? I like being productive and she likes
games, go figure. Also, is there a place I can go to in order to find
which iPad mini we have, such as version 2 or 3? There are speakers on
the bottom, but I don't know if that narrows the field any. I think we
can now say that we are an Apple family, since we boht have iPhones, a
Mac and now a 16 GB wifi iPad Mini.

Thanks,
Wayne Merritt

Re: moderator contact

2015-09-09 Thread Alan Paganelli
I don't think I like the way this is going where people want to announce they
have an iPhone, iPad etc to sell. My concern is that the list doesn't get
bogged down in buy sell and trade. First it's Apple products and then somebody
says well I have an android phone why can't I sell it here too. Everybody else
is selling stuff. Then it goes into accessories like ear peaces, etc.Perhaps a
new group? The VI swap list? LOL!

Re: A Question About Purchasing Descriptive Video Service Enabled Movies from iTunes

2015-09-09 Thread Richard Turner

I would never make that assumption.
Just because the theater cut had audio description, does not mean that it will
include it in iTunes, or any other digital format.
It certainly is not always on the DVD unless it specifically lists it on the
DVD and the same goes for the details of a digital download.

A Question About Creating Saved HashTag Searches in Twitter Apps

2015-09-09 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

When on the Twitter site, in my Desktop web browser, I can easily create and
save a search based on a HashTag.

However, when using either the iOS native Twitter app or the TwitterIfIc
app, I can not figure out how to save a search based on a HashTag.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Also, is it possible to setup push alerts based on HashTags?

Thank you,

RE: A Question About Purchasing Descriptive Video Service Enabled Movies from iTunes

2015-09-09 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Conrad,

Interesting.

Have you purchased iTunes titles that, in fact, had DVS? If so, how many?
Also, did you have to enable a specific setting in iTunes in order to hear the
DVS audio?

I hate to assume that a movie will have DVS in iTunes just because it has it in
the theater. How wonderful it would be if that were so but ... I don't think
iTunes will refund the charge if DVS is not apart of the download.

In the iTunes store app, search for either, audio description, or "for blind
viewers" and you will find a grand total of 5 movies with DVS.
Nothing that new.

At least with the Apple TV on TV shows like Marvel Dare Devil, there is a menu
you can get to to select audio description. I don't remember now the exact
steps and I'm away from home.

Apple doesn't have much commitment that I've seen to adding movie titles.
Good luck.

Audio MP3 of Apple's Special Event

2015-09-09 Thread Kelly Pierce
I converted the 1.2 gigabyte video from today’s Apple Special event
into an audio file for listening on the go in an MP3 player. At
Wednesday’s, nearly 2.5 hour event at the 7,000 seat Bill Graham Civic
auditorium in San Francisco Apple introduced the iPhone 6s and a lunch
tray sized iPad along with a new version of the Apple TV. Following
the extraordinary popularity of the iPhone 6 series, many thousands of
Apple employees, journalists, vendors, partners and suppliers
converged at a venue bigger than Radio City Music Hall in New York,
Chicago’s historic Auditorium Theater or the Shrine Auditorium in Los
Angeles. Audio begins about 18 seconds into the recording. The file

Apple unvails newest iPhone, iPad pro, apple watch and apple TV in the event

2015-09-09 Thread Dr. Harshit Jaithwar
SAN FRANCISCO — Tim Cook has unveiled two new iPhones, as well as the new
Apple TV, iPad Pro and Apple Watches at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic
Auditorium
for another one of Apple’s patented press events.

iPhone

“While they may look familiar we have changed everything about these new
iPhones,” said Tim Cook.

Apple has updated its two smartphones. The new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus
are available in four colors: silver, gold, space gray, and rose gold. The
devices are now made from 7000 series aluminum, which is an aircraft-grade
material. It’s stronger than the previous phone aluminum and is unlikely to
bend.

Apple on Wedenesday, September 9, 2015, unveiled the new iPhone 6S and 6S
Plus as the "most advanced smartphones in the world," Cook said. "While they
may look familiar, we have changed everything about these new iPhones." The
phones come in four aluminum colors, including rose gold, gold, silver and
gray.

Plus as the “most advanced smartphones in the world,” Cook said. “While they
may look familiar, we have changed everything about these new iPhones.” The
phones come in four aluminum colors, including rose gold, gold, silver and
gray.

The devices’ biggest addition is a 3D touch screen, a feature introduced on
Apple trackpads and the Apple Watch, that was previously known as Force
Touch.
The technology recognizes new gestures like pressing and holding. It
vibrates slightly to let you know it’s been pressed.

The new iPhones also come with a 12 megapixel iSight rear camera, with 50%
more pixels than the iPhone 6.

iPad Pro

As expected, Apple is making a bigger, faster iPad. The iPad Pro is 12.9
inches. It’s the same height as the iPad Air, so you can run iPad Air apps
side
by side. The screen has 5.6 million pixels — more than a 15-inch MacBook
Pro with a Retina display.

The iPad Pro starts at $799.

Inside it’s much faster. The iPad Pro has a new A9X 64-bit chip. It’s 1.8
times faster than the previous iPad’s CPU (“desktop class” according to
Apple
executive Phil Schiller). It is powerful enough to edit three streams of 4K
video at a time. It has a 10-hour battery life, is super thin, weighs just
over 1.5 lbs.

“Why make an iPad with a bigger display?” asked Schiller. Good question!

Apple on Wedenesday, September 9, 2015, unveiled an iPad Pro. The new
tablet device has a starting price of $799, with the optional purchase of
an Apple
Pencil, a low latency stylus that sells for an additonal $99.

an Apple

Games and movies look better on a bigger screen, he said. It’s big enough
to have a full-size keyboard on the screen. If you don’t want to type on the
screen, Apple has made a new smart keyboard that doubles as a cover,
Microsoft Surface-style. The keyboard is coated with a thin fabric.

The company is also making its own stylus, but with the usual over-the-top
design and marketing. Yes, it’s the Apple Pencil, a low latency stylus that
feels like a real pencil. It even got its own Jony Ive narrated videos. it
“feels like a true writing or drawing instrument,” said Ive.

As the name implies, the iPad Pro’s real target audience is business users.
To show that it’s serious, Apple brought out a very unexpected partner to
demo
the iPad Pro: Microsoft’s Kirk Konenigsbauer. He demonstrated Microsoft
Office for iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil.

Adobe also demoed its IPad Pro apps including a new product called
Photoshop Fix, a retouching tool. Using the iPad Pro and new stylus,
Adobe’s Eric Snowden
did some realtime edits including the odd choice of changing a photo of a
model to make her smile more. (It was the first woman on stage during the

For the final demo, Irene Walsh from 3D4Medical showed off her startups 3D
medical app that shows 3D interactive anatomy images for medical students
and
patients.

The company also announced a new iPad Mini 4.

Apple TV

“We believe the future of television is apps” said Tim Cook before
introducing the expected new Apple TV.

The latest Apple TV features a third-party App Store, a new remote, Siri
controls, and a completely overhauled operating system. The TV now runs on
tvOS,
which is based on iOS and “built for the living room,” according to Apple’s
Eddie Cue.

The device will start shipping in October and cost $149 for the 32 GB
version and $199 for 64 GB.

The new black remote features a glass touch surface on the top half, so you
can navigate the Apple TV with swipes and other gestures. The Bluetooth
remote
has volume controls for the TV and a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope.
It can last three months on one charge. It recharges using a Lightning
connector.

Why would Siri do this?

2015-09-09 Thread Vicky Collins

Hi All,

You might remember that I purchased an iPhone 5S from Gazelle to
test the iOS 9 beta, rather than risk my iPhone 6. Finally,
being happy enough with the beta, I gave my iPhone 5S to my
sighted brother when in Kentucky just over three weeks ago. By
the way, up until then, my brother was quite happily using the
iPhone 4 I purchased from Aman Singer and gave to him in late
2011.

Anyway, as for my question, I'm wondering why Siri came up and
asked how she could help Vicky when he launched her for the first
time today? Before I had given him the 5S, I had gone to
settings, general, reset and then erase all content and settings.
He then had restored the iPhone 5s from an iTunes backup of that
iPhone 4 he had been using. And, he does have his own apple ID,
which is completely separate from mine, with no family sharing or
anything.

I did tell him to go to settings, general, siri and then my info
to fix things, but I was still quite surprised when he told me
that Siri came up offering to help me rather than him. I'm
reasonably sure I would have cleared my information off that
iPhone 4 before giving it to him, although I can't say that I
remember what the exact reset process was back at the end of
2011. But, I normally do the reset as I mentioned earlier, and
then press the home button three times to make sure Voiceover
comes on and I am at the setup screen.

Subject: Apple unvails newest iPhone, iPad pro, apple watch and apple TV in the
event

SAN FRANCISCO — Tim Cook has unveiled two new iPhones, as well as the new Apple
TV, iPad Pro and Apple Watches at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
for another one of Apple’s patented press events.

iPhone

“While they may look familiar we have changed everything about these new
iPhones,” said Tim Cook.

Apple has updated its two smartphones. The new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are
available in four colors: silver, gold, space gray, and rose gold. The
devices are now made from 7000 series aluminum, which is an aircraft-grade
material. It’s stronger than the previous phone aluminum and is unlikely to
bend.

Apple on Wedenesday, September 9, 2015, unveiled the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus
as the "most advanced smartphones in the world," Cook said. "While they
may look familiar, we have changed everything about these new iPhones." The
phones come in four aluminum colors, including rose gold, gold, silver and
gray.

as the “most advanced smartphones in the world,” Cook said. “While they
may look familiar, we have changed everything about these new iPhones.” The
phones come in four aluminum colors, including rose gold, gold, silver and
gray.

The devices’ biggest addition is a 3D touch screen, a feature introduced on
Apple trackpads and the Apple Watch, that was previously known as Force Touch.
The technology recognizes new gestures like pressing and holding. It vibrates
slightly to let you know it’s been pressed.

The new iPhones also come with a 12 megapixel iSight rear camera, with 50% more
pixels than the iPhone 6.

iPad Pro

As expected, Apple is making a bigger, faster iPad. The iPad Pro is 12.9
inches. It’s the same height as the iPad Air, so you can run iPad Air apps side
by side. The screen has 5.6 million pixels — more than a 15-inch MacBook Pro
with a Retina display.

The iPad Pro starts at $799.

Inside it’s much faster. The iPad Pro has a new A9X 64-bit chip. It’s 1.8 times
faster than the previous iPad’s CPU (“desktop class” according to Apple
executive Phil Schiller).

The new tablet
device has a starting price of $799, with the optional purchase of an Apple
Pencil, a low latency stylus that sells for an additonal $99.

device has a starting price of $799, with the optional purchase of an Apple

Games and movies look better on a bigger screen, he said. It’s big enough to
have a full-size keyboard on the screen. If you don’t want to type on the
screen, Apple has made a new smart keyboard that doubles as a cover, Microsoft
Surface-style.

To
show that it’s serious, Apple brought out a very unexpected partner to demo
the iPad Pro: Microsoft’s Kirk Konenigsbauer. He demonstrated Microsoft Office
for iPad Pro using the Apple Pencil.

Adobe also demoed its IPad Pro apps including a new product called Photoshop
Fix, a retouching tool. Using the iPad Pro and new stylus, Adobe’s Eric Snowden
did some realtime edits including the odd choice of changing a photo of a model
to make her smile more. (It was the first woman on stage during the

RE: Please, I would like to know more about external batteries

2015-09-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Maria,

Yes, a 3200 MAH battery can easily provide one full charge for an iPhone 6,
probably more like one and a half. The iPhone 6 has an 1,810 MAH battery so
3,200 is plenty.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Anker products.

Subject: Please, I would like to know more about external batteries

Hello list,
I have been following the discussion about external batteries with
interest and I thought to ask you if someone has experience with the
following model:
2nd Gen Astro Mini 3200mAh Portable Charger External Battery Power Bank
with PowerIQ Technology.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps=[Apple+MFi+Certified]+Anker+2nd+Gen+Astro+Mini+3200mAh+Portable+Charger+External+Battery+Power+Bank+
Please, does anyone know of what size is the battery? It is 3200 mAh
battery, so do you think it would charge Iphone 6, let's say from 3% to
100% just once?
I currently have New Trent iCurve IMP70D 7000mAh External Battery Pack.
I am not sure if this model works with Iphone 6, I have not tried it
yet. I have bought it when I had Iphone 4. The capacity is great, but as
for size, it is not confortable for me to carry it in purse when I
travel, so I need something small in size, but big in capacity.
Thank you for your help in advance.
With kind regards
Maria

RE: Changing the look of the music app under 8.4 -- is it possible?

2015-09-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you turn off Apple Music and turn off Apple Music Connect in Restrictions,
you will only have My Music, Playlists and Radio at the bottom. Yes, Artist and
so on is gone from the bottom tabs, but if you tap on My Music you then have
the category button which allows you to select whether you want your music
displayed by artist, album or song, very much like it is in iTunes.

RE: Where to find info on the new IOS 9 and other new devices?

2015-09-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ed,

If you have a Podcast app and want to listen to the full Apple Event, search in
your Podcast app for “Apple Keynotes” and subscribe to it. You will always have
access to the Apple Events a few hours after they happen.

If you want to hear the highlights only then subscribing to the Today in iOS
Podcast is a good way to do this. Rob does a good job summarizing what was
announced and it’s a great iOS Podcast in general and most of the time well
worth listening to once a week.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi Group,

Is there some where a person can go and listen to the event or read what
happened at Apple’s event today?

RE: A Question About Purchasing Descriptive Video Service Enabled Movies from iTunes

2015-09-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Some organisation with a bit of influence should do some lobbying regarding
this. I feel nowadays any program, movie or TV series that offers closed
captioning should include an option for descriptive video for the visually
impaired.

Subject: A Question About Purchasing Descriptive Video Service Enabled Movies
from iTunes

Hello Everyone,

I am cross-posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries list.

Perhaps this has been covered in a past thread but here it goes:

I would like to purchase a couple of movies via iTunes that I recently saw in
the theater. In the theater, both of these movies had the descriptive video
service (DVS).

Now when I browse the iTunes store for these movies, on my phone, the only
accessibility indicator I can find is labeled closed captioning.

Is there anyway to be certain that a iTunes title offers DVS before purchasing?

Also, how does one enable DVS audio on either the Apple TV or the Mac?
Should either of these titles have DVS, I fully expect to watch them on my
Apple TV or on my Mac.

AS an F Y I, the two titles I wish to purchase are: (1) Edge of Tomorrow
(re-released as Live, Die, Repeat) and (2) Inside Out.

Thank you,

Mark

RE: Apple unvails newest iPhone, iPad pro, apple watch and apple TV in the event

Mary,

I’m pretty sure that you can rest assured that it will be accessible. Apple may
have dropped the ball in the past on fixing bugs, but I can’t really think of a
major feature that is not accessible.

There is a page on the Apple website that details the accessibility for the new
TV OS, according to Apple vis. I haven't been there, but they say voiceover
will be there. What I want to know is about the new force touch or touch 3-D.
How is voiceover going to work with that. That is a more serious question it

"While they
may look familiar, we have changed everything about these new iPhones." The
phones come in four aluminum colors, including rose gold, gold, silver and

The new tablet
device has a starting price of $799, with the optional purchase of an Apple
Pencil, a low latency stylus that sells for an additonal $99.

Games and movies look better on a bigger screen, he said. It’s big enough to
have a full-size keyboard on the screen. If you don’t want to type on the
screen, Apple has made a new smart keyboard that doubles as a cover, Microsoft
Surface-style. The keyboard is coated with a thin fabric.

I was wondering this about Twitterific as well!
I like following the local storm chasers when we have severe weather

Does anyone know how to do this?
Also, is it possible to setup push alerts based on HashTags?

Re: A Question About Purchasing Descriptive Video Service Enabled Movies from iTunes

2015-09-09 Thread Richard Turner

In the iTunes store app, search for either, audio description, or "for blind
viewers" and you will find a grand total of 5 movies with DVS.
Nothing that new.

At least with the Apple TV on TV shows like Marvel Dare Devil, there is a menu
you can get to to select audio description. I don't remember now the exact
steps and I'm away from home.

Apple doesn't have much commitment that I've seen to adding movie titles.
Good luck.

Apple event

2015-09-09 Thread Michael Malver
Hello,

It is 11:40 central as I write this. The event is supposed to start in 20
minutes. I went to

www.apple.com

with my iPhone, but don't see a link to watch the event. Am I missing
something, or is there no way for an iPhone user to watch the event live?

Thanks

A Question About Purchasing Descriptive Video Service Enabled Movies from iTunes

2015-09-09 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I am cross-posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries list.

Perhaps this has been covered in a past thread but here it goes:

I would like to purchase a couple of movies via iTunes that I recently saw
in the theater. In the theater, both of these movies had the descriptive
video service (DVS).

Now when I browse the iTunes store for these movies, on my phone, the only
accessibility indicator I can find is labeled closed captioning.

Is there anyway to be certain that a iTunes title offers DVS before
purchasing?

Also, how does one enable DVS audio on either the Apple TV or the Mac?
Should either of these titles have DVS, I fully expect to watch them on my
Apple TV or on my Mac.

AS an F Y I, the two titles I wish to purchase are: (1) Edge of Tomorrow
(re-released as Live, Die, Repeat) and (2) Inside Out.

Thank you,

Mark

Please, I would like to know more about external batteries

2015-09-09 Thread Mária Orovčíková

Hello list,
I have been following the discussion about external batteries with
interest and I thought to ask you if someone has experience with the
following model:
2nd Gen Astro Mini 3200mAh Portable Charger External Battery Power Bank
with PowerIQ Technology.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps=[Apple+MFi+Certified]+Anker+2nd+Gen+Astro+Mini+3200mAh+Portable+Charger+External+Battery+Power+Bank+
Please, does anyone know of what size is the battery? It is 3200 mAh
battery, so do you think it would charge Iphone 6, let's say from 3% to
100% just once?
I currently have New Trent iCurve IMP70D 7000mAh External Battery Pack.
I am not sure if this model works with Iphone 6, I have not tried it
yet. I have bought it when I had Iphone 4. The capacity is great, but as
for size, it is not confortable for me to carry it in purse when I
travel, so I need something small in size, but big in capacity.

Thank you for your help in advance.
With kind regards
Maria

apple event questions

2015-09-09 Thread Christina C.
Hi all and thanks ahead of time.

Where can I try to listen to the live streaming. I couldn’t get it to work last
year but I am hoping for better luck this time. If I can’t do the live
streaming, I’d like to keep track of announcements on twitter. Can someone tell
me what the hash tags would be or someone who would be good to follow,
especially if they are sending tweets from an accessibility point of view. :)

Thanks again!

Re: apple event questions

2015-09-09 Thread Alex Hall
Go to www.apple.com/live. It'll only work on a relatively new Mac or iOS
device, or the Edge browser on Windows 10, or a newer Apple TV. Follow
@AppleVis for live tweets, and/or check www.applevis.com later today for our
usual recap blog. Plenty of others will be live tweeting as well, but I don't
know of any who might mention accessibility at all. The big names I can think
of are @MacWorld, @IMore_Firehose, or @CultOfMac.

Same here but who cares, let’s get on tot he news of apple instead of wrangling

I watched it with apple tv and it was easily accessed. I like the new apple TV,

Or, if you also have a Bluetooth keyboard paired at the time, you could use
it to input the PIN.

Hello Carla,
Yes, the pin needs to be entered on the iPhone screen. I would put it
in and explore the screen to find the pair button(in my experience at
the top right corner) and double tap.

You
have to enter it on the iPhone screen right? Any help would be
appreciated.
Thanks!
