Re: messages

2016-01-23 Thread Lois Butterfield

Hi Mark,

I do get a tone when a new message comes in. What I'm missing is, when I
touch the messages icon, it doesn't tell me how many new items I have like
it is supposed to. It's a strange problem.

Maybe nobody's phone does this anymore? For example, if I touch the phone
icon, I will hear, phone, 3 new items, double tap to open. Messages used to
be the same way. If I touch mail, I will hear, 6 unread E-mails.

I hope this explains it better.

Thanks,
Lois

Hello Lois,

Assuming that you have rebooted the phone, I suggest that you go into the
notifications area of the phone and confirm that you have notifications
turned on for the Messages app. Also, be sure to set the Badge App Icon to.
on.

To do this:

1.

From the Settings area, select Notifications.

2.
Find the Messages entry and single-finger double-tap to open its properties
and configure its notifications settings.

Good Luck,

Mark

Hi all,

I have an IPhone 6S running the latest update. Since a few updates back,
when I touch the messages icon, I never hear how many new messages there
are, or if there are any new ones. It just says, messages, double tap to
open. I am missing new text messages because of this.

Has anyone had this happen? Any ideas on what I might try to fix it.

I keep hoping for it to be fixed with every update that comes out, but it
still doesn’t work.

Thanks,
Lois

So if you send a message and don't get a reply, then what? He said he didn't
see any of his messages in the app. I don't know if he was looking in the
conversation view, if there even is another view. Or maybe he sent messages
and didn't get replies, so there were no actual conversations.

When I go into the Messages app, and here I'm talking about SMS text
messages, I get a list of my conversations. Each conversation is named
for the person I'm talking to. I'll hear the name of the person and the
last message I exchanged with them, even if it's from me. Double tapping
on one of these conversations brings up a list of all of the messages in
that conversation, both the ones I sent and the ones I received.

Writing hash tags with braille screen input?

2016-01-23 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, I'm looking into a Twitter client for my iPhone, and have mostly settled
on Twitterific. Before I start though, I'm wondering with braille screen input,
how you tell your device that after you've put in the number sign, or in this
case pound sign, that after this you want to write letters? It seems to work
fine if you type #MushroomFm, but what if you're using a hash tag that begins
with any one of the first ten letters of the alphabet? Is there a workaround in
the UEB code for this instance?
Thanks,
Matthew

Re: What happens to text messages that you send?

2016-01-23 Thread Mary Otten
I have passed on the messages to my friend, and hopefully he has found his
problem. I see text messages. I just wasn't seeing any from me, but I have sent
very few, and probably just deleted them as part of an old conversations which
are gone. So I don't think I am having a problem.

RE: Text messages on a lap top?

2016-01-23 Thread Richard Turner
OK, it works.

If you have Consumer Cellular, you can use the AT code.

I just sent a text to my work phone which is on AT and another to my personal
phone which is on Consumer Cellular, from Outlook 2016 on my Windows 10
computer, but I suspect this will work with other versions of Windows.

I formatted the to field as iphonenum...@text.att.ent
and put text in the subject so Outlook
wouldn’t flag it as not having a subject, then wrote some text in the body of
the Email and hit send.

Poof, I received the text message on my work iPhone. Then, I did the same with
my personal phone.

Very slick if you don’t want to go and grab your iPhone.

I suspect this works with any cell phone.

How To Send SMS Messages From Windows 10 Computer to a Phone

Method 1 – Send Messages Through Email

Probably the simplest way to send messages from your computer to a cell phone
is through the email. To do so, just follow these instructions:

1. Open Windows 10 Mail App

2. Click on New Mail

3. Now just enter the number you want to send the text message to and
enter the code of your provider. Here are message codes of some popular
providers:

oAlltel: @message.alltel.com (or @mms.alltelwireless.com for picture
messages)

oAT: @text.att.net

oSprint: @messaging.sprintpcs.com

oT-Mobile: @tmomail.net

oVerizon: @vtext.com (or @vzwpix.com for photos and video)

4. Write the message as a normal email and just hit Send

When your friend replies to your text message, you’ll also get it in your Mail
inbox.

Method 2 – Send Message From A Carrier’s website

A lot of mobile carriers offer you an option to send free SMS messages from
your computer for free. Depending on the carrier, you’ll be able to send text
messages to other users of that carrier’s services, or even users of other
networks. So just go to your carrier’s website, log into your account, find the
option for texting, and send the text message from your computer.

Thanks Alan for sharing this.

Much better than the web site I found.

If you want, you could add that Consumer Cellular uses the same code as AT,
at least for SMS. I haven’t tested MMS but it is very likely to also be the
same.

Steve,

Below my signature is a guide I wrote almost two years ago about sending text
messages with your email client on a standalone computer. How to do this is
mainly a function of the mobile service provider you're sending to and their
rules. I' believe most of the information is still accurate but would welcome
any comments or corrections if someone takes issue to anything stated.

Alan Lemly

It is possible to send text messages using your email client on your computer.
The messages can be plain text messages also known as SMS which stands for
Short Message Service. SMS messages are usually limited to 160 characters when
sent using a mobile device but might be limited to 140 characters when sent via
a computer's email client. This also might depend on the recipient's service
provider but I have not fully researched the limitation.

Messages with pictures or without limitation on length can also be sent via a
computer's email client. These messages are called iMessages in the iOS world
or mms messages in general. MMS stands for Multimedia Message Service.
Wikipedia has a good article explaining MMS at this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multimedia_Messaging_Service

This page has a good discussion of MMS and SMS with a table that succinctly
compares them:

http://www.diffen.com/difference/MMS_vs_SMS

The format of the sent to address governs which type of message is sent and
varies for each provider. The format begins with the 10-digit mobile phone
number of the recipient followed by the @ sign for all providers. What follows
the @ sign varies depending on the message format and the provider. Those are
provided below for the four major US mobile service providers.

AT

SMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@txt.att.net

MMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@mms.att.net

Verizon

SMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@vtext.com

MMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@vzwpix.com

Sprint

SMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@messaging.sprintpcs.com

MMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@pm.sprint.com

T-Mobile

SMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@tmomail.net

MMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@tmomail.net

T-Mobile is the only provider of those listed above that uses the same address
for SMS and MMS messages. Apparently, its servers analyze the message and
format it accordingly on receipt.

AFAIK, once an item is deleted/removed from Drive, it's gone. It doesn't
show up when searching and the concept of Trash folder may be a desktop
meta for. For example, when removing an app or folder from iOS device: it
doesn't go into a Trash folder.

The format of the sent to address governs which type of message is sent and
varies for each provider. The format begins with the 10-digit mobile phone
number of the recipient followed by the @ sign for all providers. What
follows the @ sign varies depending on the message format and the provider.
Those are provided below for the four major US mobile service providers.

AT

SMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@txt.att.net

MMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@mms.att.net

Verizon

SMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@vtext.com

MMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@vzwpix.com

Sprint

SMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@messaging.sprintpcs.com

MMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@pm.sprint.com

T-Mobile

SMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@tmomail.net

MMS email address: 10-digitmobilenum...@tmomail.net

T-Mobile is the only provider of those listed above that uses the same
address for SMS and MMS messages. Apparently, its servers analyze the
message and format it accordingly on receipt.

Hi, all. Has anyone else noticed a significantly greater battery drain since
updating to IOS 9.2? It seems to me that my battery goes down faster since the
update. I’m using an IPhone 6 running 9.2. Any thoughts? Thanks.

But it certainly stays in the trash on google site. When I search it I can
still find it, even I removed it. You have to clean your trash because you only

RE: Text messages on a lap top?

2016-01-23 Thread Richard Turner
I found this on a web site, I have no idea if it works.

2016-01-23 Thread Monica Jones
I have asked this question on other lists but have gotten anywhere. I hope
someone can answer it, but I deleted it from my phone. I haven’t deleted it
from my computer yet because I keep hoping for an answer. I searched it and
went to it on the website but couldn’t find anywhere to delete my trash. There
doesn’t seem to be anywhere to empty the trash on the app itself either.

RE: What happens to text messages that you send?

2016-01-23 Thread Alan Lemly
We should probably remind folks that Mary's original post on this thread was
based on secondhand information she received from a friend experiencing the
problem. it might be helpful to go back to the source for an update after
she has communicated the replies to him. I know at this point that I'm a bit
confused whether it's Mary's friend or Mary who isn't seeing any text
messages without deleting them.

Maybe he is on the conversation page, however I don't know why he is not
seeing the messages he sent. To get back to the list of conversations you
can double-tap on the back button in the upper left-hand corner of the
screen

Just an idea.

RE: messages

2016-01-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Lois,

Mark already suggested what you have to check. The setting that has to be set
to On is in Settings > Notifications > Messages and you want to look for
something called "Badge app icon". If it is off set it to on and all be right
in the world of text messages again.
In order to verify if it is on or off you actually don't even have to go all
the way into Messages after you go to Notifications. Just find Messages in the
list of apps and you should hear something like this:

Messages, Badges, Sounds, Banners button. If you only hear Messages, Sounds,
Banners button and "Badges" is not mentioned that means Badges are turned off
and the count won't show on the badge icon.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Mark,

I do get a tone when a new message comes in. What I'm missing is, when I touch
the messages icon, it doesn't tell me how many new items I have like it is
supposed to. It's a strange problem.

Maybe nobody's phone does this anymore? For example, if I touch the phone
icon, I will hear, phone, 3 new items, double tap to open. Messages used to be
the same way. If I touch mail, I will hear, 6 unread E-mails.

I hope this explains it better.

Hello Lois,

Assuming that you have rebooted the phone, I suggest that you go into the
notifications area of the phone and confirm that you have notifications turned
on for the Messages app. Also, be sure to set the Badge App Icon to.
on.

To do this:

1.
>From the Settings area, select Notifications.

2.
Find the Messages entry and single-finger double-tap to open its properties and
configure its notifications settings.

Good Luck,

Has anyone had this happen? Any ideas on what I might try to fix it.

I keep hoping for it to be fixed with every update that comes out, but it still
doesn’t work.

Tuner app required

2016-01-23 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
hi, still looking for a tuner app, though different this time.

I want an output sound/tone of any value I like, as reference to tune an
instrument, any instrument, to.

I've had ukulele and guitar, even mandolin specials. I tire of talking tuner
as the time lag gets to irritate me after a hwile.
Seems to be 20% off from tuning pipes and other tone generating devices. I
don't want to have to BUY A SPECIAL DEVICE, I just want
an easy, accessible way to select a tone to work with.

Many thanks, BobH.

Re: Writing hash tags with braille screen input?

It should work with any letter after the number sign. Just put 4-5-6, then
1-4-5-6. That is the # in UEB. That is, dots 4-5-6, then the TH sign.

Apple devices for Sale

I have an apple router and an apple express up for sale. The Apple express
is wonderful for streaming music from your apple devices to any room in your
home via the audio jack of any speaker. Both are in very good condition.

Here is a little info on the router:

AirPort Extreme Base Station with simultaneous dual-band support features
fast 802.11n Wi-Fi access for Mac computers, PCs, and Wi-Fi devices such as
iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple TV.

If interested, email kingme...@comcast.net. Thank you!

Is this only for iPads, or is there this new ESPN app for the iPhone as
well? I thought mine is still called Watch ESPN, and I have TWC. I know the
buttons for the channel names and such used to be unlabeled, so you had to
go in and then read the title to see what it is you ended up on.

have found that the new app works much better, at least with TWC.

Hi, all. Thanks for your suggestions. I updated to 9.2.1, ran my battery
completely down, re-charged to phone completely and did a hard re-set holding
the home and screen lock buttons for ten seconds. My battery is now performing
as I would have hoped. Instead of dropping to below 50 per cent with light
use, it's gone to80 percent. Much better.

Is brightness the same as light? Turn down the brighttness/light and check if
any GPS app is running in the backround. This is the two most battery demanding

Re: Page numbers

2016-01-23 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

The average braille page has 40 characters per line and 25 lines per page. So
if your books have 40-cell margins and you have some way to find out how many
lines they contain, you can divide the total by 25 to get a page count.

Best,
Anna

That would work out to about 1 page for each 1000 bytes of file size.

Re: Apple watch

2016-01-23 Thread Alan Paganelli
I have learned about my iWatch that I don't have to keep pulling it out of my
pocket. Replying to text messages can be a snap. Flick through preset replies
such as sure or on my way and more. You can also create your own quick replies
such as can you pickup a gallon of milk on your way home. Email is just as
easy. They keep adding new iWatch apps all the time too.

Re: google drive

2016-01-23 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Speaking of Google Drive: I thought when sharing links, they could be
downloaded like with Dropbox etc., thus I'd like to know what does it
mean when I get a notification on my phone and via EMail that so and so
person is seeking access to an Android podcast I put up on Google Drive?
Ientered on the EMail and the person got signed up, thus does this mean
the person can download the podcast? Thanks for info.

google drive
are you referring about driverless car designed and set up by google.

anyway, about going to trash issu, go to folder and pick trash, then change for
edit to done, then mark any posts as manyt as you want to get rid, then go to
delete and click it.

sometimes many posts on trash do have automatic removal themselves.

did I answer you?

Page numbers

2016-01-23 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi,

I'm reading some small books from the NFB weebsite, and I'm reading them with a
Braille display. The site doesn't say how many pagers they are. I'm in a
contest and I need to know how many Braille pages I read. Does anyone know how
to find out how many pages are in these books? They are the Kernal books.

Thanks,

Jenn

2016-01-23 Thread Anthony Vece

Hi Everyone;

I recently set up my Facebook account.
I am using the IOS app on my Verizon iPhone 6S+.

Anyway, I am having trouble finding specific posts in a particular Facebook
group.

Would someone please help?

Thanks
Anthony
