RE: sensitivity of phone going to speaker

2016-03-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, you can’t adjust that and I don’t find it any different on my 6S Plus. I
also don’t recall anybody posting anything about this in a long time.

Do you use a case? There is always a slight chance that a case could trigger
the proximity sensor, also make sure you clean your screen from time to time.

Sieghard

Hi,

Simply Yoga has a free version and a cheap one, and its yoga workouts are
described clearly. Pocket Yoga is fully accessible and not very expensive. You
might need someone to describe a few things, but it's pretty good. It also
includes a pose dictionary, so you can get detailed descriptions of poses
you're not sure about.

Best,

Anna

app purchses to get the actual videos, which I have not done yet. Any luck
finding free or low cost workout resources that seem accessible? I’d most
prefer pilates, having done a pilates class in the past. I’m not into
aerobics, just core strengthening.

Re: Voice Dream Reader 4.0, an early overview

2016-03-13 Thread Richard Turner

I am not sure why some people are having trouble.
I'll do some research and see if there is a different way I can do the HTML
code.
Or, I'll put it on my dropbox and try that.
Stay tuned.

RE: voice over double speech ios 9.2.1 iphone 4s

2016-03-13 Thread Cristóbal
I used to get severe stuttering and double speak with VO after hanging up a
phone call. A simple triple home button press to turn Vo off and again
To turn it back on and that would fix it. That was with earlier versions of iOS
9. Can recall it maybe happening once or twice since using 9.2 though

RE: Looking for info on the iPhone 6s plus, and a good protective case for it.

2016-03-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chip,

I’d like the name/model and also I’d like to know if it’s a vertical or
horizontal holster. I bought one called “Gorilla Grip” which is a very solid
leather holster with a very good swivel belt clip, but it’s meant to hold the
6S Plus horizontally and while you can turn it into the vertical position, then
the flap opens forwards and it’s just not ideal. This particular belt clip
won’t come off a belt since it has a bit of a hook at the end so it’s very
secure, but I like the idea of the D-ring as well.

Regards,

Sieghard

I bought a separate holster for the times when I wanted a belt clip, so when I
did not want one (when it was going into a pocket which could hold it), I
didn’t have a belt clip as well.

The holster I found also has a snap d-ring so you can snap it onto a belt loop,
which I prefer to use of the belt clip, because something this large can
accidentally pull off of a belt when you sit down. I believe the holster is
leather, and if anyone is interested, you can write to me and I’ll get the
name and a link to it.

My biggest issue, and this may have changed with the later model of the griffin
survivor cases is that when you put them in The clip, axis to the charging cord
is completely blocked. I liked the OtterBox defender cases as well, but I've
heard that the model for the 6S and 6S plus have quality issues. If you want a
case with the belt clip, where the screen can face out, you may want to take a
look at this. I'm not sure if they have it in the plus size, but it's worth
looking.

Hi.

I’ve been a happy iPhone user since May 2009. I’ve gone from a 3gs to 4, to
5c, and finally to a 6s plus. Each phone has been a little different, but I’ve
learned about them. I’m looking for information on the 6s plus, in order to
use it more effectively. Anybody know of a good resource to learn about it?

Also, I’m looking for a good protective case for my new iPhone. I’ve been a
happy user of the Otterbox Defender case, and I’m leaning toward that one. If
anybody knows of a better case, I’d be interested.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Have a blessed day.

GO CATS!

Hello,
Worse worse worse news ever, actually, maybe not. Can you still log into the

Hello,
Do you remember the old apple ID's password? Tried restoring through iTunes?
you could also try auto delete after 10 attempts, set a password, enter 10
wrong tries, and see what happens. One of these should work, though I would
only do it if you were really confident, as if something doesn't go that
well

Re: I got the Otterbox Defender case: was RE: Looking for info on the iPhone 6s plus, and a good protective case for it.

2016-03-13 Thread Matthew Bullis
I went with this Otterbox case as well, even over the Mophie battery case. I
like that this case can be clipped either way into its belt clip, facing in or
out. This way, you can have it on your belt and be flicking and otherwise
interacting without needing to hold it. Also, Mophie changed their design, so
that if you want to dock your phone into a speaker dock, you have to take it
out through the top. The cap is no longer on the bottom. They've used a micro
usb on the bottom, which is the way they've done it for a while. Also, if you
get their belt clip, sold separately, the Mophie case won't fit in both ways.
It only fits in with the back of the phone facing out, so you can't operate the
screen in the clip.

RE: Looking for info on the iPhone 6s plus, and a good protective case for it.

2016-03-13 Thread Chip Orange

I'm not sure if they have it in the plus size, but it's worth
looking.

RE: Looking for info on the iPhone 6s plus, and a good protective case for it.

2016-03-13 Thread Chip Orange
I’d suggest a slimmer case for the IPhone (I’m using the silicon rubber one
from Spigen which is barely bigger than the phone itself), and a glass screen
protector (with or without tactile dots, your choice made along with any
sighted person who may wish to use your phone (my wife finds the dots to
distort the visual image)).

I believe you get better protection with this combination, while having a much
slimmer phone afterwards (and you need the slimming with the 6s plus!). If you
buy the glass screen protector from the store of your service provider, they’ll
usually install it for you at no charge.

I also bought and use the attachable Spigen ring on a swivol base (it attaches
to the case on the back, and slips onto your finger when you fold it out). It
makes the phone, especially this big phone, a lot easier to hold, and to hold
more reliably so you won’t drop it, because it’s securely sitting on your
finger (and so you don’t have to try to keep a vulcan death grip on the phone
one handed). If you don’t like the ring, it easily detatches from the case.

Hth,

Chip

RE: voiceover going off

2016-03-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
iOS 9 works on the 5S and also the 4S. Actually, Apple has made some very good
speed/responsiveness improvements for the 4S with the latest 9.2.1 update. I
definitely am also a believer that one should upgrade especially at this point
where iOS 9.2.1 has dealt with most of the bugs. Of course at this point one
might as well wait until the week of March 21 when Apple will release iOS 9.3.

Sieghard

Paul, possibly because you're using a version of ios that became obsolete some
time in the 1950's, why would you insist on using
such an old version?

recommendation for bluetooth device which can be an ear-piece or used in both ears for great music sound

2016-03-13 Thread Chip Orange
Hi all,

When I went to sign up for my AT&T service, the very knowledgable salesman
and my wife fell into a discussion about his bluetooth device, which my
sighted wife said was unlike anything she had ever seen. He told us that it
was an LG Tone Infinim, and in his opinion he would never go back to a
standard ear-piece.

This device is shaped like a horse-shoe, and sits on your shoulders,
encompassing 300 degrees or so around your neck, with the open portion
facing directly forward.

Each arm has controls on the top and the sides (lots of actual buttons), and
the mike is built into one of the arms. But best of all are the ear-buds
which nestle in small nooks at the end of each arm, and are attached with
spring-loaded 10 inch long wires. When not in use, you press a button and
they automatically retract back into the device, so nothing is in your ear
to impeed your hearing.

When you get a call (the device will vibrate if you set it up that way, and
it will also vibrate if you begin to walk away from your phone), you simply
grab an earbud and pull it out and insert into your ear. If you want better
sound, or to listen to music, you pull both out.

The controls on the right arm are dedicated to controlling audio (fast
forward, rewind, pause/play), and the controls on the other are
volume/vibrate and interface with Siri so you can give verbal commands.

I've waited a couple of months before I said anything here because I wanted
to be sure I also thought it was enormously better than a standard
ear-piece, and absolutely I think it is. It comes in any number of colors
(my wife's opinion is that the silver/gray is the most professional
looking), and having it around my neck doesn't bother me at all.I do get
a lot of compliments on how it looks, and a lot of requests for demos.

A charge lasts about 3 days. I find the audio quality excellent, but admit
to not being an expert on the audio quality of all bluetooth devices, so I'm
putting a review link below, and an Amazon link to the silver for $90 also.

I have to admit my wife and I had each already purchase other bluetooth
headsets, and we don't know what we're going to do with them, but we're
using this from now on.

Hth,

Chip

Yes, it ends in html because is is a page with the link to the mp3 file, but
here is a direct link to the file:

www.turner42.com/VDR4March12.mp3

If you are using Windows, you probably have to choose whether to open or save
the file.

THANKS and I look forward so much to hearing it!

I dabble a bit with the Reader and know it has a lot going for it but haven't

Re: Apple Watch won't speak

2016-03-13 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
I'm just guessing here, but here's what might have happened. Your watch may
have gone into power reserve mode. When this happens, you can do nothing with
it at all except visually display the time on the screen. Here's what I would
try to do.
Connect your watch to power for about 20 minutes just to make sure the unit
gets enough power to function for a few minutes. After charging for about 20
minutes, disconnect the power and simultaneously hold down the crown and
friends buttons for a full ten seconds, just like you would do with your iPhone
if you were resetting it because of acting up. After releasing the buttons wait
about 3 minutes for the watch to power cycle, it starts much slower than iPhone
so try to be somewhat patient, if after 5 minutes nothing happens, go into the
watch app on your phone and go to general, accessibility, voiceOver and make
sure it is on. Then make sure your sound volume is up all the way and make sure
VO volume is maxed as well. Once this is done, tap your watch and see if it
will speak. If not, you will need apple support, if so, make sure you never let
it go to power reserve mode again. The only way out of power reserve mode to
get VO speaking again is the hard reboot I described above.
Also, in the watch app under accessibility is the accessibility shortcut, just
like on iPhone. You can set it to toggle VO so that triple-clicking the crown
will turn VO on/off.
Hope that helps, let me know if it does.

2016-03-13 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
It sounds like you might be in power reserve mode. This occurs after pushing in
the larger of the 2 buttons on the side. There's an AppleVis podcast from last
April or May which may help you get out of this. I don't know if pushing the
larger side button and holding for a few seconds (up to 10) may help. It may be
you will have to power the watch off first, before restarting it.

Voice over will not work in power reserve mode.
To restart the watch, hold down the friends button for four seconds. This
will make your watch start up like normal with voice over.
I got this information from a podcast on AppleVis.

 Hope this helps,

Hi Richard,

I am getting a "403 Forbidden" error when I try to access either link.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Yes, it ends in html because is is a page with the link to the mp3 file, but
here is a direct link to the file:
www.turner42.com/VDR4March12.mp3

If you are using Windows, you probably have to choose whether to open or save
the file.

Hi Richard,

I'm very keen to hear your podcast but the URL written is strange and ends with
HTML. Could you kindly send it again as I don't now have your original message
on this subject?

THANKS and I look forward so much to hearing it!

I dabble a bit with the Reader and know it has a lot going for it but haven't
found it to be my favourite or the one I use a lot, so I'd like to get to grips
with it some more and, hopefully, use more of its features competently.

Re: Apple Watch won't speak

2016-03-13 Thread Chris Chaffin
I would take it to an Apple Store if available, and if not, I would call Apple
Accessibility.
Since you do not have voice over, you might want to have sighted assistance
there with you before calling Apple Accessibility.

Good luck!

I figured out how to access games on the MLB TV app on the Apple TV 4.

2016-03-13 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

As you may remember, I reported that the MLB app on the Apple TV 4 didn't list
the team names. Well, either I missed it, or the app was updated, because the
team names are there, at least for the games for today. The bad news is that
games for earlier dates don't have the team names displayed. If you're
familiar with the players on the team, you can figure out the teams by the
pitchers, which are listed. However, if you're a follower of the Reds like I
am, this is a bit harder since they got rid of half the team over the Winter.
Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Just letting you know.

Yes, but they are mostly child voices or different moods for Will, like old

No, on both questions. I left a review on the app store stating that there
should be an option for removing ads, but so far, that has not been added.

Subject: ivia crack kingdoms question

Hi all. I was wondering if there was a way to just get the trivia crack
kingdom friends to show up for your opponents with facebook. I tried
removing both aapps from my facebook, reinstalling the trivia crack kingdoms
app but still see the original peope that I played trivia crack with. I
deleted that app as I don't find it accessible as kingdoms and like kingdoms
better. The other question I had is is there an ad-free version somewhere?
Thanks!

Re: iPad Bluetooth keyboard request

Thanks, but this is really annoying when you need to use the command key as
part of a keystroke. There doesn't seem to be any way of making the hints go
away again.

Paul, possibly because you're using a version of ios that became obsolete some

Re: iPad Bluetooth keyboard request

2016-03-13 Thread alex stone
Sorry to reply to the same message twice, but in certain apps, such as e-mail
and safari, they seem to appear by default, just because I'm using a Bluetooth
keyboard, also on the home screen this happens. It's unbelievably frustrating,
as there doesn't seem to be any option anywhere to stop it.

Sounds like it is in power reserve mode where it only shows the time.
Voice over will not work in power reserve mode.
To restart the watch, hold down the friends button for four seconds. This
will make your watch start up like normal with voice over.
I got this information from a podcast on AppleVis.

 Hope this helps,

Put focus on the Newsfeed button at the bottom left, then Status is at the top
left just underneath search. If you swipe you can’t go further left than
Search, from there swipe right to Message Friends and one more time to Status.
Double tap on it, then touch near the top where you have the “What’s on your
mind” edit field, swipe right twice and you are at “Start a live video
broadcast”.

It's in facebook. You go to status, and there's an option to go live. It then
records you live and your friends tune in. It also uploads the video to your

doing videos on facebook

2016-03-13 Thread Stephanie
Hi all,

I'd just discovered that I can do "live" videos on facebook. I'm wondering if
anyone has any tips on how to get the best video as a totally blind person. Is
there a way of somehow getting some sort of audio feedback when the camera is
focussed on something?

Also, does anyone know if I can share my video with twitter?

Thanks for any advice you can give.
Steph
