This Is a Great App for Journaling or Maintaining a Digital Diary

2016-07-10 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I was just using MacJournal for IPhone, a great little iOS app, and thought
I would remind those of you, who like to journal, that it is VoiceOver
accessible.

Just so you know, I have never used this tool in OS X so cannot speak to its
VoiceOver accessibility on the Mac, itself.

MacJournal for iPhone
By Mariner Software

Description

Talk about some serious journaling experience!

Introduced for the Mac in 2005 and the iPhone in 2010 (and the iPad version
shortly thereafter) MacJournal for iPhone offers an even greater opportunity
to document important life events while on the go. It's no wonder MacJournal
is the world's most popular journaling app for the Mac.

Out and about? You know what we mean. Run here. Run there. And in between
all that running, events happen. Then, when you're able to stop and take a
breath, you think to yourself, "Now, what was that thing that happened? I
wanted to write it down." - only to realize that you forgot what it was.

Now you don't have to wait to until you sit at your desk to make an entry in
your journal. MacJournal for iPhone gives you the ability to record an event
or that special moment.

Organize, chronicle and edit your important information fast and on the fly.
Best of all, unlike other journaling apps out there, you can blog to any of
the popular blog sites using MacJournal. Not a blogger? Use MacJournal on
its own or share your MacJournal data over the cloud with your other MacOS
and iOS devices. Even share documents via iTunes. Whichever way, MacJournal
has you covered.

WITH MACJOURNAL YOU CAN:
Create entries in multiple journals
Attach images to your entries
Edit styles in entries
Using Dropbox, manage multiple MacJournal documents, that can reside on your
device
Share entries to Facebook and Twitter
Blog from your journal on your iPhone or iPod Touch to one of a list of
popular servers such as Blogger, Wordpress, Tumblr and Posterous
Set a passcode to lock your data upon opening MacJournal
Have consistent and familiar look and feel on both iPhone version and Mac
version
Search or browse entries by using the search field at the top of each
journal screen
Create numbered or bulleted lists
Journal in either landscape or portrait mode

***Sharing data with MacJournal for Mac OS via Dropbox requires MacJournal
for Mac OS 6.0.6 or higher. MacJournal for Mac OS 6.0.6 or higher is also
recommended for sharing data via wifi sync

Re: Reading iTunes books in Voice Dream Reader

2016-07-10 Thread Gordan Radić

Well, I believe every single book available on Amazon, iTunes and
other services can be found DRM free via torrents and other P2P
sharing possibilities. Sometimes is easier to do the trick that way
than trying to remove DRM from legally purchased books. If you
already purchased the book there's no difference would you make it
DRM free yourself or just find the file someone already unDRMed.

BBC News App Occasionally Not Opening Article

2016-07-10 Thread Craig Werner
Hello, everyone.

I have noticed that occasionally, if I double-tap on a story from within
the "My News" section that the article will not open if VoiceOver is
enabled. The article opens if VoiceOver is disabled. I have also noticed
that this problem can be remedied by turning on the app's "Compact Layout"
setting available via ("Menu -> Settings -> General -> Compact Layout").
Clearly, VoiceOver should allow the article to be opened regardless of the
state of this setting. Can anyone confirm this behavior? I have sent
feedback to the BBC News developer.

I am using an iPhone 5 with iOS 9.3.2.

Thank you for all help.

Craig

RE: Reading iTunes books in Voice Dream Reader

2016-07-10 Thread Jerry White
OK, I tried it, with no success! Codex says it removed the DRM, but didn't. I
tried it by first trying to have codex itself remove the DRM and convert the
file, and it failed. I then tried removing the DRM and importing it on into
VDR, and it had the same results as before… it thought the file was like 5
seconds long!

Thanks so much for the ideas! Any others?

It could be worth a try. I don't think Codex is just restricted to stripping
DRM only from Kindle books. I'm not totally certain, though.

Thanks,

When inputting text into the message area of a text message using the
"enter" key causes the text message to be sent rather than just
inputting a new line. This also seems to be the case on the Facebook

I would be grateful to know if anyone has a work around for this problem.

Re: cutting and pasting text

2016-07-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
To select text, using the pinch gesture, you'd place two fingers on the
screen next to each other and then start spreading them apart. I would
do this in the middle of the screen and then move my fingers towards the
opposite corners, to give me the most real estate to move my fingers.
How much text is selected depends on whether you have characters, words,
lines, .. set in your roter. You'd move your fingers together to start
unselecting text you've already selected. You could always just leave
one finger in place as an anchor and then just slide the second finger
away from the first. Moving one finger instead of both may be easier for
some people. Once you had some text selected then the edit option would
show up in the roter. Note much of this has become obsolete with the new
text selection option in IOS 9.

the screen, making sure they are exactly straight up and down in
portrait mode, then bring them together. As I say, it works, sometimes.

Hello,
Would it help if someone took a look for you on something like faceTime? I
think something is either happening that we're not noticing, or something's
happening that you're not aware of. I would be more than happy to take a look,

Yes, that's true, but I'd still rather use Dropbox as I don't really care
for ITunes. However, in the past, I have used it for file sharig. It seems
that with all the inaccessibility problems with ITunes these days, file
sharing would be more difficult but I haven't fooled with it.

NO, I use itunes file sharing. Each file is over 600mb in size. Dropbox
would take a lot longer to do the transfer.

To Sonos gurus out there

2016-07-10 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hello everyone.
I have a question to those who are knowledgeable with Sonos, i should know this
myself but i don’t so here goes:
I have encountered a little issue which is that when i try starting up
Trueplay, i get through the presentation of Trueplay and the first step where
it tells me to place the speakers right where i want them and then on the next
page there’s a dialog saying that trueplay is coming soon and that the iPhone
isn’t yet supported. Now i know for a fact that it is, so i suspect something
fishy with my system. I’ve been talking to Sonos technical support and they’re
as clueless as i as to what this problem might be, so now i got the advise to
simply reinstall the system from scratch and i wonder how do you reinstall your
sonos system? What’s the best way of doing this?
Thanks so much.
/Krister

RE: can't paste text in to a note

2016-07-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jed,

OK, I did find where you originally said you wanted to copy the contents from a
text file in Dropbox to your clibpoard and then paste it into a note in the iOS
Notes app.
I tried to recreate this by opening a text file in my Dropbox app. It does
indeed seem exceedingly difficult (of course it shouldn't be) to copy the text.
I also had no "Edit" item on the rotor at first. I tried all sorts of stuff
like double tapping on the note, trying to use the "Share" button at the top
right and use "Add to Notes", but that only creates a note with an attachment.
I assume theoretically this would do what you want except you have to open the
attachment as the text is not in the Note itself, but in the attachment.
Anyhow, I don't know what iPhone you hae, but using 3D touch on the text does
seem to bring up a "Select All" option which however didn't really seem to
work. The short of it is that at some point after doing the force touch I did
suddenly have an Edit item in my rotor and I was then able to flick to Select
All and Copy.
Interestingly enough the "Text Selection" item is in the rotor when I first
open the text file, but if I flick to "Select All" it does not seem to work, if
I use Word or Line selection and select a few rods/lines I can then turn the
rotor to edit and select copy, if I use select all in the text selection and
then go to Edit the only two options I have are "Select All" and "Select" and
double tapping on either one does not do anything or allow me to find "Copy".
All in all it's very inconsistent although I guess if your text is not too long
you could select it word by word or line by line. What I don't understand is
why there isn't a simple "Copy to Clibboard" or "Pasteboard" as Apple calls I t
option in the "Share" menu.
Of course I should also mention that I am using the iOS 10 Public Beta so it is
possible that some of this strange behavior is because it's just Public Beta 1,
maybe in iOS 9 using the "Select All" in the Text Selection rotor item works
just fine, somebody would have to try it.
Lastly, why do you want to copy this text to a Note if you already have it in
your Dropbox? If you want to have it always available just make it available
Offline in Dropbox and it will be there on your iPhone just as a note would be.

Regards,
Sieghard

Can we run through all this again?...

So, we open original text file, get it in editing mode, use rotor to
get to the edit features, find and tap on select all, find and tap
on Copy; then exit all that, open Notes, open a new note, get it into editing
mode, use rotor to find Edit features, find and tap on Paste.

For all our interests, which bit didn't work?

There was a bug in some versions of iOS 9 that affected some people using its
pasteboard. When some users tried to copy and paste something on their iPhone
or iPad, instead of pasting what was just copied, iOS pasted text that was
copied previously.

It did not happen all of the time to the affected users, but Apple support
suggested:

1. Go to the text, link, or other item you want to copy.
2. Double tap to bring up the Edit menu.
3. Double tap Copy.
4. Double tap to bring up the edit menu again.
5. Double tap Copy again.

Most of the time repeating the copy cycle twice got the right content onto the
pasteboard.

I assume the bug has been fixed, but the above workaround might be worth a try.

RE: cutting and pasting text

2016-07-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jed,

The pinch gesture is what sighted people use, you put two fingers on the screen
so they are touching and then slowly spread them apart (away from each other
horizontally). As you spread your fingers apart text will get selected based on
whatever rotor unit is set, e.g. by character, by word or by line. Before Apple
made it possible to select text by character, word, line or all using the "Text
Selection" rotor item, this was the only way to select text unless you wanted
to "Select All" which was always an option. However, if you are having problems
with a left rotor turn I wouldn't even try because it's a difficult gesture at
the least and many people on the list had problems with it when it was the only
way to select just a portion of text. Anyhow, you apparently do want to select
all text so there is no point to try and use that. As I said, if you could
maybe back up and explain again what app the text you want to copy and paste is
in it would maybe help. There are so many one-liner emails in this thread now
that it's hard to find much.
I also suggest you go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Voiceover and
practice your rotor turns in the practice area.
By the way, somebody mentioned that maybe "Edit" wasn't added in the rotor
settings. The rotor settings are also in Voiceover settings and there is a
rotor button, however, edit is not an item you can add as it is automatically
there or not depending on that context. If you are somewhere text can be
selected, copied or pasted it is there.
The "Text Selection" rotor item, however, which was introduced in iOS 9 and
which allows you to set a movement unit like characters, words, lines, page or
select all is however an item you have to first add to the rotor before it is
available. You do this by going to Voiceover Settings > Rotor, then find it and
make sure it is "selected". You can double tap each rotor item to select or
deselect it. Once available you can place your insertion point at the beginning
of the text you want to select, then turn the rotor to "Text Selection", then
flick up or down with one finger to select the unit (characters, words, lines,
page or select all) and then flick right to select text. If, for example you
set it to words and then flick right Voiceover will read out the text word by
word and as it reads each word that word is selected. Once you have selected
all you want you turn the rotor to Edit, flick up or down to "Copy" and double
tap to copy the selected text to the clipboard.

Sieghard

Well, it's still nto copying the text from the original file. It only seems to
be copying the 1st 2 letters. When i paste it in, i just see the 1st 2 letters

the l and the E are showing up when i paste.
I am beyond frustrated guys, this makes no sense at all.

Sorry about that typo. Yes, I meant the word and instead of ant. Fleksy can be
unforgiving if one doesn't proofread carefully enough.

Re: cutting and pasting text

2016-07-10 Thread Jed Barton

perhaps you meant the word and.
Well, it's still nto copying the text from the original file. It only
seems to be copying the 1st 2 letters. When i paste it in, i just see
the 1st 2 letters of this file showing up. The 1st word in the file is
the word let, and just the l and the E are showing up when i paste.

I am beyond frustrated guys, this makes no sense at all.

2016-07-10 Thread Jed Barton
ok, now this is getting even stranger, it pasted something, but it only
psted 2 letters.

Here's what i did.
I opened up the original file. Then i went to seid,t flicked down until
it said select all, so i double tapped that. Then i went to edit, and
went to copy, thinking it would actually copy, and of course double
tapped that.

Then i went to the new note, and went back to edit and clicked paste and
only 2 letters showed up. Any ideas?

Can we run through all this again?...

So, we open original text file, get it in editing mode, use rotor to get to
the edit features, find and tap on select all, find
and tap on Copy; then exit all that, open Notes, open a new note, get it into
editing mode, use rotor to find Edit features, find
and tap on Paste.

For all our interests, which bit didn't work?

OK, well i copied the text, and eventually found paste, when i got in to
the new note, and it did not paste, i even tried it twice.
When i got to the original text file, i went to edit, went to select

Then i went to the new note, and hit paste, and all it said was
comma., like it inserter a comma.

This makes no sense. Any ideas

Re: cutting and pasting text

2016-07-10 Thread Alan Lemly
Jed,

To paste the text you copied into a new note, try single finger double tapping
ant then holding on that second tap. You do this anywhere on the screen where
the new note is. A pop up menu should appear above where you tapped and one of
its horizontal menu choices should be paste which you can select and double
tap.

Good luck.

Some things, synthesizers just don't read well. Poetry, for example, but
then, a lot of human readers don't read poetry well, either.

I downloaded one of the Grimm related novels from BookShare. One of the
characters is named Whu (believe that's the spelling). For whatever reason
no voice I tried regardless of group of voice could handle the name and the
reading of that writing style was unlistenable.
I tried to follow the punctuation but couldn't get the VDR to read the
characters and punctuation so I could follow it. I'm not making a comment
on the voices or the software. It's probably my lack of proficiency in
handling the software that got in the way of my figuring out what was
causing the problem with the reading in general.

I really haven't gotten into different voices, figuring that I can
adjust to most anything, and that different voices are very subjective
to each person listening and what they like or don't like. However,
with this discussion, I went back and browsed through all the
available voices; wow! I ended up getting James, and after my wife
heard him, she was very surprised that it was a TTS voice and not
someone speaking. She liked Sally the best. So now I've got some
choice when I want to read files or BookShare books. BTW, thanks to
the people that have pointed out that BookShare is very easy to browse
and download from, I never realized. I just might extend my BookShare
membership on that fact alone, grin.

The following works sometime, I can't guarantee it will work in your
situation. But when I think edit ought to be in the rotor but doesn't, I
use the old pinch gesture on the screen, it selects something, and edit then
appears in the rotor. You then have to unselect whatever it selected before
continuing, but at least edit is there now.

Hi all,

This problem originally came up on my wife's RIVO Bluetooth keypad she
uses with her Iphone 6 running IOS 9.3.2. However I have replacated the
problem on my own Iphone using an apple bluetooth keyboard so I
suspect the problem is within IOS itself.

When inputting text into the message area of a text message using the
"enter" key causes the text message to be sent rather than just
inputting a new line. This also seems to be the case on the Facebook
messenger app but not on the Apple native e mail app.

I would be grateful to know if anyone has a work around for this problem.

Thanks

Not that I'm aware of. If you had purchased it from Kindle, there is a program

Reading iTunes books in Voice Dream Reader

2016-07-10 Thread Jerry White
Hello everyone!

I recently bought a book from the iTunes store. I would like to read this
book in Voice Dream Reader since the voices are better. I moved the book to
Dropbox and imported it into VDR, but it said it was only a few seconds
long. I suspect this is due to the DRM from Apple. Any easily Jaws
accessible way to remove this so I can read it in VDR? I am not trying to
pirate the book, just read it as comfortably as possible.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Jerry

Re: can't paste text in to a note

2016-07-10 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
Can we run through all this again?...

So, we open original text file, get it in editing mode, use rotor to get to
the edit features, find and tap on select all, find
and tap on Copy; then exit all that, open Notes, open a new note, get it into
editing mode, use rotor to find Edit features, find
and tap on Paste.

For all our interests, which bit didn't work?

Thanks, BobH.
