ITunes doesn't break anything. It doesn't change itself. It's not iTunes.

Yes! This is especially true when iTunes keeps breaking things on each new
incremental update. It seems egotistical and insane for them to suggest that
the screen readers should come out with a fix every month or so for what they
have arbitrarily broken L

I think this is definitely an Apple Accessibility issue since while the
screenreader makers like Jaws/Window Eyes, NVDA etc. also need to do their
part, I think there ust is not enough cooperation between Apple and them. It’s
like Microsoft and Jaws, if you listened to Jonathan’s recent Podcast where he
interviewed this guy from Microsoft who said that Microsoft has done and is
doing a bunch of stuff to make things better and they are providing Jaws with
the framework to make the experience better. It seems to me that Apple somehow
is not doing this with iTunes and this comes down to a basic commitment by
Apple to make iTunes as accessible as possible on the Mac with Voiceover and on
the PC with Jaws, Window Eyes and NVDA.

  Hi Larry and others,

There was an iTunes update yesterday, the current version is iTunes Version
12.4.3.1. Unfortunately little seems to be fixed and certainly newer versions
of iTunes 12 have taken steps backward with respect to accessibility. If you
use the column browser with Genres, Artists and Albums, these list views are
not read (at least not by the latest version of Jaws 17). 2 or 3 versions ago
it would read them and, for some reason, say “L1” in front of whatever else it
said, now it will just say List View.

I am going to write to Apple accessibility since while I use iTunes less
frequently in connection with my iPhone, I still may want to use it at home on
my PC and of course there are some tasks like syncing Ringtones etc. one can
only do with iTunes. As Brian Tong from the AppleByte Podcast always says when
Apple has dropped the ball on something, I would call this a “bad Apple”.
Hopefully others will join me in writing about better iTunes accessibility.
There are I think around 2,000 members on this list now and even if only 1 out
of 4 took the time to send a message, maybe if Apple Accessibility received 500
messages they’ll understand that this should be addressed. It would certainly
be more effective than only 5 messages. And while people are at it, why not
make the subject “Accessibility of iTunes and iCloud.com which Apple seems to
think are not important to blind users”. I still don’t understand how Apple has
done nothing to make the iCloud.com website accessible after so many years.

Hi. I thought I read that the latest ITunes was relatively fixed so I went
and downloaded and installed it. Big mistake. Does anyone know how I can get
back the music view which gave genras, then tab to artists and so on. Or play
lists at least.

StoCard, The Rewards Card App, is Back and Better Than Ever!!

2016-08-13 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I am delighted to announce that, with this latest release, StoCard, Rewards
Cards Wallet app, for iOS, is once again, VoiceOver accessible.

See below for app description and App Store link.

Mark

Stocard - Rewards Cards Wallet
By Stocard

Description

Featured as one of the best apps of the year by Apple in Europe and now
available in the US!

Store ALL your rewards cards in one app on your iPhone - with Stocard. Get
rid of all the plastic cards in your wallet! FREE!

Wall Street Journal: "a clever way of turning a smartphone into a virtual
wallet"
Techcrunch: "a simple but clever take on the mobile
phone-as-loyalty-card-wallet"

FAST:
The built in high-tech-camera scanner enables you to add loyalty cards
within seconds.
Have your phone's screen scanned for a faster transaction at properly
equipped stores*.

EASY TO USE:
No registration necessary, start using Stocard right after downloading.
Choose from over 400 preset loyalty cards.
Add any not preset loyalty card as an "other loyalty card".
Securely store your cards in the cloud

Several stores still use outdated scanner technologies (laser or flatbed
scanners instead of image scanners). These scanners unfortunately cannot
read smartphone displays. In this case simply ask the cashier to type in
your loyalty card number manually.

Add any card in Stocard with a QR code to Wallet.

In the photo app, on the top right, there should be a select button, then once
you tap that, then you tap each photo you want to delet, then on the bottom
right tap the delete button, and then you'll get a dialog asking if you're sure
you want to delete those items.

RE: Audio Books and Voice Dream Reader

Yes, thank you. I have zipped all of the mp3 files into one file, copied it to
a folder in my dropbox folder, and then opened VDR. I can see the contents of
my dropbox folder, and even the folder I put the books in. When I open the
folder, VDR says it is empty. These are simple mp3 files, nothing fancy. I
have also e-mailed the support account, but haven't heard anything back yet. I
just don't know what else to do!!

Thanks for all the suggestions, though!

shows up are the few ePub and PDF files I have in there. What am I missing? I

Have you waited long enough for the Drop Box upload process to complete?
Perhaps this is unique to my system, but when I placed a zipped audio book into

Hi Jim,

The last part of your message where you ask your question has me a little
confused.
I'm not sure what you are asking when you say:
" would be offer how to search bo author to add in books?"

When I add a book, I use the search mode, not the manual mode. If I have the
ISBN number, which is easy to get with Bookshare, I don't remember if BARD
records that, I use the field for ISBN.
Otherwise, I use the book title and pick the one that matches with the author.
There are often multiple editions so that is a bit of a guessing game.

Then, I go through and fill out the other parts I want to keep track of.
Remember, after that initial screen with the title and author, when you add
something like Read date, you will find a save button in the upper right.
Double tap on that before you continue to the next thing, like format, or
whatever.
Then, hit the Save button in the upper right on that main screen and you will
have that entry done.

Also, the developer is good about answering questions if needed.
HTH,
Richard

If there are others who use BookCrawler to catalog their reading, be aware that
if you update to version 6.76 which came out Tuesday the 21st of June, you may
think you lost your entire database like I thought I did.
There is a new mode in settings that seems to be the default called "Shelf." It
displays the books as pictures like they were on a book shelf.
If you go into settings and double tap where it says "Mode Shelf" it will say
selected.
Then in the bottom of the screen you will find a picker item.
Flick up once and the mode should change to "list" which is once again
accessible with VoiceOver.

I had a few minutes of panic when I thought I'd lost the record of what I have
read in the last few years.

RE: VoiceOver volume problem

2016-08-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Based on what Gordon described I would delete the Roger app and see if that
resolved the issue. If it does then you know what the problem is/was and I
guess the Roger developers have some fixing to do.

Subject: VoiceOver volume problem

Hi all,

Lately I’ve been having a problem where the VoiceOver volume will suddenly drop
to an inaudible level for no apparent reason. If I go to the sounds settings
it often will be restored to the proper level, and if I talk to Siri I find the
standard sound level is not affected (that is, it’s fine).

Restarting VoiceOver and/or Restarting the phone does not cure the problem.

I think this began around 9.3.4, but I also received a new Roger update around
the same time, so it could be either, or perhaps even some other update.

Are others noticing this, and do you have any ideas on what to do? I did call
Apple support, and they had me turn off VoiceOver and restart the phone, but
this only solved the issue for a short time before it recurred. They hinted
that perhaps resetting all settings may help, but that people often complained
about this as a debugging step (and I don’t know how to do it, and they never
did tell me).

Thanks,

Chip

Hello everyone!

I am having trouble getting audio books to show up in VDR, can someone please
help me?

What I did was to take an mp3 audio book file, and split it. I used MP3
splitter/joiner and split it into 5 minute increments. I then took the split
files, and zipped them into a zip archive. I finally copied this to my dropbox
folder, and opened VDR. I went to "Add", and clicked on dropbox. All that
shows up are the few ePub and PDF files I have in there. What am I missing? I
figure there is some special process that makes the zipped archive appear to be
an audio book, is that it? I have even tried making .m4b files and putting
them in dropbox, and that doesn't work either!

All help is appreciated!

RE: Yamaha musucCast recievers smart tvs etc

2016-08-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
HDMI stands for High Definition Media Interface and it's a single cable with
connectors which look a bit like a USB connector and it carries both a digital
video and audio signal.
If you want a more technical explanation you can Google "HDMI" and you'll find
all you want about the standard, the origin, the various versions etc.
All modern devices like blueray players, satellite receivers, set top boxes
like the Apple TV and also all laptops and computer monitors pretty much have
HDMI inputs or outputs nowadays.

One thing I can tell you about this volume issue is that I had to delete
Roger from my Android phone because a recent Roger update caused the
same issue you're describing with the volume. I never installed Roger on
my iPhone, but the volume issue you're describing is exactly the same.

RE: uploading music to the cloud

2016-08-13 Thread Alan Lemly
Well, not everyone wants to stream their music and $9.99 a month for Apple
Music versus $24.99 a year for iTunes Match is not an insignificant cost
difference. I'm not surprised if Apple has decided to combine these two since
it will boost their revenue stream.

Here's an ultimate guide to iCloud Music which discusses the various aspects of
these two services:

A correction on this: Apple recently announced that they are combining Apple
Music and iTunes Match, and will be gradually fading iTunes Match out. If you
are subscribed to both, then you will just have Apple Music, at least I believe
that's right. Check some of the Apple tech sites for full details, suchas iMore
or 9to5 Mac. I heard this about a month ago. For the end user, this means that
if you are subscribed to iTunes Match then you won't be charged for another
year.
It also means that you get the same functionality with iTunes Match, such as
being able to download songs and get copies of songs in the cloud, added to
Apple Music. IMO, they should have done this in the beginning, but whatever. It
makes more sense to me to have them both combined in one service.

Greetings all. It seems like this topic comes up each fall. I'm
looking for an app to send me notifications of sports game scores,
like for my favorite football teams. I have been using Yahoo Sports
for the last year or two. It worked great for awhile and I got the
notifications. However, earlier today when I went to look when some
upcoming games were scheduled, there were several unlabeled buttons
and other items on the screen. I realize that we are in preseason for
the NFL, but I still would have thought that there would be a list of
this weekend's preseason games. My wants are easy: free and easy to
navigate; can send game/score notifications; and can let me set an
unlimited number of favorite teams. I don't mind if there is a cap on
the favorite teams, just so long as that cap is not 1 or 2 teams. I
would also want a way to see a list of coming games and past games
with scores, so even if a team is not in my favorites, I could still
 find it.

 Thanks in advance,

Re: uploading music to the cloud

2016-08-13 Thread Wayne Merritt
A correction on this: Apple recently announced that they are combining
Apple Music and iTunes Match, and will be gradually fading iTunes
Match out. If you are subscribed to both, then you will just have
Apple Music, at least I believe that's right. Check some of the Apple
tech sites for full details, suchas iMore or 9to5 Mac. I heard this
about a month ago. For the end user, this means that if you are
subscribed to iTunes Match then you won't be charged for another year.
It also means that you get the same functionality with iTunes Match,
such as being able to download songs and get copies of songs in the
cloud, added to Apple Music. IMO, they should have done this in the
beginning, but whatever. It makes more sense to me to have them both

RE: Yamaha musucCast recievers smart tvs etc

2016-08-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I think the answer here is yes and no. You can get HDMI adapters or whatever
you want to call it which also have an optical audio port so I believe you plug
the Apple TV into one of these and then out of them comes another HDMI going to
your TV and an optical audio which you could connect to a receiver/amplifier.
The other option would be to buy a Bluetooth dongle which would plug into a
headphone jack and maybe you can get some that could plug into an RCA connector
as well and then to use Bluetooth to stream audio from the Apple TV to your
Bluetooth dongle which is connected to your AV receiver or stereo amplifier.
You can also stream directly from the Apple TV to a set of Bluetooth headsets
or speakers.
It is in a way unfortunate that Apple has done away with the optical audio out
which is still to be found on the third generation Apple TV.

Hi Seigard. Thanks for your as always valuable points and ideas. The reason why
I am also considering an av-reciever, is that sometimes we would like to use
the 4 gen apple tv, with audio only when it is only I and my wife using it, we
are both blind, and therefore a I thought a av reciever would be necessary. But
can I hook up the apple 4 gen tv to the splitter and then on to my dac or my
analog applifier? And would the apple tv then think its connected to the tv?
BR, Jesper.

RE: BookCrawler 6.76

2016-08-13 Thread Richard Turner

Bluetooth Tethering

2016-08-13 Thread Joe
Hi,

Some time ago I thought I read about an app that would allow people to find
each other using an app to communicate via Bluetooth. Both would install the
app and use their Bluetooth feature to scan a room and find the location of
the other device. Is there an app that actually accomplishes this, or am I
making stuff up? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Yamaha musucCast recievers smart tvs etc

2016-08-13 Thread Jesper Holten
Hi Seigard. Thanks for your as always valuable points and ideas. The
reason why I am also considering an av-reciever, is that sometimes we
would like to use the 4 gen apple tv, with audio only when it is only
I and my wife using it, we are both blind, and therefore a I thought a
av reciever would be necessary. But can I hook up the apple 4 gen tv
to the splitter and then on to my dac or my analog applifier? And
would the apple tv then think its connected to the tv? BR, Jesper.

RE: uploading music to the cloud

2016-08-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You would need to subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match which is I believe
only $25 US a year. Apple Music is $9.99 a month for a single account or $14.99
for a Family account. For that all your music is either matched and available
in the cloud or if iTunes doesn't have it it is uploaded and available for
streaming or download to your device. In addition to that you have access to
all 36 million or whatever the number now is songs available from iTunes and
you can stream them or you can also download them and they will play as long as
 you maintain your subscription.

RE: Yamaha musucCast recievers smart tvs etc

2016-08-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Ultimately I think you may want to work towards a setup with a smart TV which
either gives you several HDMI inputs or you could use an HDMI splitter which
you can get with as little as two but also with 3 or 5 inputs and 1 output.
This way if your TV only had 1 or 2 HDMI inputs you can hook it up to one of
these and maybe instead of hooking up the Apple TV fourth gen to the splitter,
hook it up directly so the TV can sense when it is being used and automatically
switch to it.
I would then suggest you may want to look at a Sonos Playbar, Sub and two Play
1 or Play 3 speakers as rear surrounds. If your room is very large I would
consider the Play 3's for that otherwise the Play 1 speaker would be fine.
This gives you an extremely accessible system (especially if you could find a
smart TV which offers accessibility for the TV) and you also get your Sonos
experience and access to all the content in the living room with a minimum of
equipment, cbles and speakers.
I had a very high-end Sony receiver which as it was from 2009 was not yet
connected and had no app to control it and it was hooked up to pretty good
speakers, but I don't regret putting it all aside for the above described Sonos
system. The sound is very good but a bit different since of course you get
better separation with two speakers that are standing 8 or 10 feet apart, but
while different the sound is awesome with the Playbar, Sub and rear speaker
setup.
My TV is definitely a relatively dum TV compared to what's out there today
since it's a more or less first generation Sony 40 inch LCD TV's which I bought
after Christmas in 2007, but it has 2 HDMI inputs and lots of others like 3
Component inputs, 3 Composit/RCA, an optical audio out and even a computer
monitor input and an old S-Video. We use the HDMI inputs for the Apple TV
fourth gen and what is probably a specialized Android box from the Filipino
Channel for my wife and then we have a satellite receiver we rarely use hooked
up to one of the digital component inputs. We use the Sony blueray player even
less often so it's not even hooked up and we just switch it with one of the
HDMI devices if we want it.

Sports scores and alerts is great. The developer is fantastic as I have beta
tested for him for VO improvements and the app works great for the most part.
For alerts check out The Score as you can set alerts for any team or player and
they to are great and looking to make any VO improvements. Team Stream is
another good one. We discussed a lot of these recently on my podcast iAccessVO

Hi all. Is there a way to upload my music to the cloud in order to save space
on my phone? If so, how do I do this with icloud drive? Thanks.

Hi!
You need to get a 3rd party app for it. I use G Contacts Lite and
there are plenty more of them.
And, I still can't think of any reason why Apple Abandomed
  contact groups since iOS 5...

Re: Manamon - building outside of the city with the third stadium

2016-08-13 Thread Oriol Gómez
Yes... what does that have to do with this list? This is a game for
windows (an awesome game btw) and no, it's not an iOS game in any way,
why don't you ask in the audiogames.net forum?

Re: Navigon Update - Good And Bad News

2016-08-13 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Sieghard,

The advantage of Navigon is that you can have all the maps stored on the phone
so that you don’t need a 3G connection to use the app. For us in Europe, this
is very useful when out of the home country.

Cheers,

Anne

Yamaha musucCast recievers smart tvs etc

2016-08-13 Thread Jesper Holten
Hi all.
I am happily using Sonos for our musuc enjoyment in the household.
However, we are also using HDMI devices such as the apple tiv and more
will join the house as our son grows older I suspect. I Therefore, I
want to have a better multimedia setup than we currently have. Right
now we have a dumb tv, and apple tv 3rd gen, and a 2 speaker setup
with a hifi applifier, and a DAC and a sonos connect. But we want more
control over the tv, and currently we consider the following options
1. Getting a sony android tv though the tv we have is working
perfectly well and that may not solve all our problems.
2. An apple tv 4, and then do the cable wire cutting and depend on
apps. Note we live in Europe so Dish tvs sling tv is not an option.
3. A Yamaha av reciever with HDMI and other digital connections, but
the sound quality may be going downhill compared to what we have now,
but as far as I understand some of their new recievers and speakers
can be controlled through Yamahas musicCast e eco system and app. And
on a mystic access podcast I heard recently it should be somewhat
accessible.
I just wonder if any one having any experiences with the yamaha
Musuccast setup or any other tvs that can be run by Android and which
is accessible_
Thank you in ad ance, best regards, Jesper.
