Re: Heart Rate monitors

2016-08-18 Thread Aedan
I know of one called the Helo, it uses your finger against a sensor on
the monitor itself for the pulse and will read heart rate, blood
pressure and breath rate. The 3 buttons that do the readings are not
labeled but all the results are.

Let me know off list if you want more information.

Search function on Calendar app is crap!

2016-08-18 Thread englishrider91
I typed in multiple words I know I put into an appointment title, and search
isn't finding the appointment. I can't remember when I scheduled the
appointment. I'm super frustrated! The search function has found other
appointments no problem. This one, for some reason, though, is causing issues.
I made an appointment for when I started my dog on his new food, and I wanted
to see how long he's been on it now' and I can't find that appointment. I also
can't find the appointment related to him using his new bowl for the first
time. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. This is driving me nuts!

Thanks,
Ari

Re: Braille Easy and Capitalized Words

2016-08-18 Thread Dani Pagador
Hi, Reggie.
Before you do anything, be sure you've gone through the Introduction
section where the gestures used in the tutorial are introduced and
where you get to practice. Also, be sure you go to Settings and choose
the one for the hand you want to use--that is under Swap Dot
Positions; also be sure you choose Tap Tones under the Tap Sounds
menu, since this will give you the most audio feedback re what you're
inputting on the BrailleEasy keyboard.

When you double-tap the Lesson Selection button, you'll need to swipe
right three times to get to the first section, Alphabet. Double-tap to
open the section.

Swipe right once to get to the Lesson 1, First Row, Learn Letters a-j
option and double-tap to open. A TTS voice will tell you what letter
you're to type and which fingers to use to type it.

Example: Type a as 1, then swipe right.

1 = Dot 1.

D will be typed as dot 1, dots 1-2. Dot 1 represents the first half of
the letter, the left side; dots 1-2 represents the second half, the
right side of the letter.

Dani

Re: Heart Rate monitors

2016-08-18 Thread Andrea Roveretto
I would suggest the Polar H7 sensor... the app that comes with the
product is barely accessible but you can use other appes if you need
more features. For me, the native app is enough for my needs.

Regarding the apps that monitor the rate trought the finger... well
its ok if you need just to know ina certain moment what is your rate,
but not for following a training session.

Subject: RE: A Quick Question Regarding iTunes/App Store Subscriptions

Hi Mark,

I usually go to the App Store app, make sure "Featured" is selected and then I
go to the very end and swipe left until I find my Apple Id and double tap on
it. I then tap on "View Apple Id" from the menu that pops up and enter my
password or, if offered, I use Touch Id to sign in.
On the page that now opens you have links for family sharing, payment
information, country/region, gifts and ratings and reviews.
Right after Ratings and Reviews I have a heading level 2 called "Subscriptions"
and you can of course turn the rotor to headings and jump right to that.
If you do this, the headings I have on this page are:
Account - heading
Subscriptions - heading level 2
iTunes in the Cloud - heading level 2
iTunes Pass - heading level 2
iTunes newsletters and special offers - heading level 2

If I swipe right once from the Subscriptions heading I have a link called
"Manage", double tap on that to see your subscriptions and to manage them.
Not sure whether the entire "Subscriptions" heading is missing if you don't
have any, but I assume not since I don't have any iTunes Passes (whatever those
are) but I do have the heading for it.
If I tap on Manage I see two subscriptions, one for my Apple Music and one for
Rdio which actually says it's expired which of course would make sense since
the Rdio music service doesn't even exist any more.
For whatever it's worth, I have a 3-year Seeing Eye subscription and it doesn't
show up here which would indicate that it is not treated as a subscription in
iTunes which can be managed/renewed automatically, but I guess you could always
email Sendero and ask them how that works, but I assume that once your Seeing
Eye subscription expires you'll probably are notified when you try to use the
app that you need to buy a new subscription.

Sieghard

Subject: A Quick Question Regarding iTunes/App Store Subscriptions

Hello Everyone,

I know this has been mentioned several times but I would really appreciate a
refresher.

I want to make certain that I do not have any auto renewal iTunes/App Store
subscriptions active.

If I did have such a subscription, where would I find it?

The steps I have taken to find it are:

1.
>From iPhone, go to Settings.

2.
Open the iTunes/App Store item.

3.
Tap on my Apple I.D.

I do not see any mention of any subscriptions listed anywhere in this area.

Does this mean I do not have any recurring subscriptions?

I ask this because I do not want my Seeing Eye GPS annual subscription to
auto-renew.

Thank you for your help on this one.

Mark

RE: converting mp3 books for the iPhone

2016-08-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Robert,

You ask an excellent question and you have received some excellent responses.

As for me, I think how one chooses to convert audio files or, files of any
type, for that matter, is extremely subjective in terms of the best way.

If you are a Mac user, you might consider using Garage Band.

If you are a Windows user, Gold Wave is a tried and trusted tool.

As one person stated, you don't really even need to convert an MP3 file if you
know how to use the file tagging feature of iTunes.

My point is that there is no "best" way to accomplish this so much as there may
be a more convenient method for a specific individual.

I'll leave you with this:

1.
Personally, I use Gold Wave for Windows for all my conversion tasks. However,
I have some residual vision and I find that it comes in handy with some areas
of the application. Were I to use my Mac? I would probably go with Garage
Band.

2.
>From all of the people with whom I've communicated with over the years, the
>one thing I can relay is that Audacity is one of the most screen reader
>accessible, free, audio tools available in both Windows and Mac OS.

RE: 1Password may have just got even better

2016-08-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I assume it is similar to the "Everywhere" service from Roboform. Roboform is
another very good password manager and it's the one I have been using on my
PC's probably for the last 10 years. If you subscribe to Roboform Everywhere
which I believe is $20 a year your passwords, SafeNotes, Bookmarks and so on
are stored on Roboform's servers and synced to all your computers, iOS devices
and whatever else you may have.It also gives you a license to use Roboform on
as many computers and other devices as you want.

Sh-chord shows/hides the onscreen keyboard when a braille display is attached.
The Eject key does the same when you're using a QWERTY keyboard.

One question to add to my other questions regarding the StandScan Pro.

Can it be used when your iPhone is in a case? Mine's a very lightweight

Good afternoon,

I'm seriously considering getting a StandScan Pro to use with my iPhone,
especially with such scanning apps as the KNFBReader. I'd like to know
people's thoughts on it. How easy is it for a totally blind person to not
only use but also to assemble and disassemble? I know it comes with a power
supply or a battery pack. Do you recommend one over the other?

I figured a tool like this would allow me to take much better pictures of
things than what I currently take.

If you don't like the StandScan, what would you use instead that would give
me the same results?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I can try later when I get all of my work done. Basically T-mobile on September
6 will launch a plan called T-mobile One. this plan will cost
$70 for your first line of service if you only have one line. You can add
additional lines for $50 for the second line and $40 for each additional line.
but the talk, text and data will be unlimited on all lines under this plan.
Tablets can be added for $20 each for full speed unlimited LTE data. You'll
also get unlimited hotspot at 128 K. Or you can purchase full speed hotspot
data at $15 for each 5 gigs. DVD quality video is also included on this
unlimited plan, but you can purchase the unlimited HD video addon for $25 if
you want that.

Re: converting mp3 books for the iPhone

If you sync your phone with iTunes, you can tell iTunes that certain files are
to be treated as books. You can even set things up so that your iPhone
remembers the position in the file. If you select multiple files at once, you
can even do the changes in batches. I think the command to get into the info
editor thing is still control+i. Hope this helps.

Like another poster mentioned, you can always put the books as a zip file into
Dropbox and open them in Voice Dream Reader. Also, if the book only has a few
files, and they're quite long, you can always just drop the mp3's directly into
Dropbox without zipping them first, then import them into VDR. I do this with
GraphicAudio books, which tend to have rather long files.

Thanks,
Ari

It is an online service hosted at
www.1password.com
it consists of an online vault named “personal” in my case which is
automatically synced both on the web and through their desktop and mobile apps.
I would go to the above website to find out more.

I guess I should've checked before sending out an email, I fixed my own
problem. It appears that my do not disturb button was on however, I don't
remember even going to settings to make that happen. Strange how sometimes
these things happen without our noticing, but as long as all is well I
shouldn't complain. Thanks For listening.

1Password may have just got even better

2016-08-18 Thread christopher hallsworth
Sharing this as their iOS app is included in the below.

Hello everyone.

For those who use 1Password or wish to check it out, there may be news for you.

I receive the 1Password Announcements newsletter on a regular basis, yesterday
was no exception. One announcement was the introduction of 1Password accounts
for individuals. As a special introductory offer, sign up before Wednesday 21
September and receive six months absolutely free. No catches, no credit cards,
no fuss. Believe me, I’ve done this myself and couldn’t be any happier. For
Windows users though, you will have to wait until version 6 of their app which
will fully support 1Password accounts including their family accounts. For the
rest of you, including iOS users, take advantage right now. Go to
www.1password.com

Before I sign off, you may be asking yourself “what the hell?” 1Password is a
super duper program to manage all your passwords by storing them in a digital
vault only accessed by you using one master password, hence the title
“1Password”.

Enjoy!

Listening to the Little League World Series

2016-08-18 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everybody,

I was wondering, is there a free way to listen to the Little League World
Series? I have a premium account of tune in, but when I looked on there last
night, I could see nothing that mentioned the Little League World Series. I do
not have cable. So that is not an option. Honestly, this is about the only part
of baseball I like. I don't know why I like it when the young kids play, but I
do. So if I could enjoy it, I would really appreciate that.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: T-mobile says goodbye to limited data plans

2016-08-18 Thread Gordon
I can try later when I get all of my work done. Basically T-mobile on
September 6 will launch a plan called T-mobile One. this plan will cost
$70 for your first line of service if you only have one line. You can
add additional lines for $50 for the second line and $40 for each
additional line. but the talk, text and data will be unlimited on all
lines under this plan. Tablets can be added for $20 each for full speed
unlimited LTE data. You'll also get unlimited hotspot at 128 K. Or you
can purchase full speed hotspot data at $15 for each 5 gigs. DVD quality
video is also included on this unlimited plan, but you can purchase the
unlimited HD video addon for $25 if you want that.

RE: Portable phone charger either can be plugged in by USB wire to computer

2016-08-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Simon,

It is OK to do this from time to time, but unless you absolutely need to use
every last minute your phone has in it this is not how you get the best life
out of your iPhone battery. It is much better to plug it in when you get the
20% low battry warning or even if it is still t 30% and to charge it up again
to 100% or even to 90% if you are in a hurry and can't finish charging it all
the way. Running a battery down all the way and charging it up all the way was
recommended for older NiCad rechargeable batteries which otherwise could
develop a memory and might not have performed well over time, but the new
Lithium Ion rechargeable batteries used in most modern devices don't like this
as much and doing this is only necessary if you want to sort of
reset/recalibrate the battery.
If you want to learn more about how to get the most out of your iPhone battery,
Google "how to get the most out of my iPhone battery" and you'll find lots of
good articles.

If you want general but rather technical information about Lithium Ion
batteries, go to this link:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries

Here is a summary from this article pointing out the key facts about Lithium
Ion batteries:

Simple Guidelines for Charging Lithium-based Batteries
• Turn off the device or disconnect the load on charge to allow the current to
drop unhindered during saturation. A parasitic load confuses the charger.
• Charge at a moderate temperature. Do not charge at freezing temperature. (See
BU-410: Charging at High and Low Temperatures)
• Lithium-ion does not need to be fully charged; a partial charge is better.
• Not all chargers apply a full topping charge and the battery may not be fully
charged when the “ready” signal appears; a 100 percent charge on a fuel gauge
may be a lie.
• Discontinue using charger and/or battery if the battery gets excessively warm.
• Apply some charge to an empty battery before storing (40–50 percent SoC is
ideal).

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: A Quick Question Regarding iTunes/App Store Subscriptions

2016-08-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Mark

RE: Portable phone charger either can be plugged in by USB wire to computer

2016-08-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Simon,

The iPhone 5S has a slightly larger battery than the 4S, the 5S battery has a
capacity of 1,570 MAH whereas the 4S battery was 1,432 MAH.
Also, if your portable charger is several years old and has been used a fair
bit it will have lost some of its capacity to hold a full charge.
You have to decide how large of a battery you want, e.g. how often do you want
to be able to charge your iPhone 5s back to 100% once it reaches the first low
battery alert at 20% and would you sometimes run it way down to 5% or less
before you charge it.
If, for example, you typically charge it when it reaches 20% and you want to
charge it twice, I'd recommend at least a 3,000 MAH battery, a bit more is
safer. Keep in mind that nowadays batteries around 3,000 to 5,000 MAH are not
so different in size, if you just want a battery that is as small as possible
and which let's you charge it back to 100% a 2,000 MAH battery is probably
sufficient.
I highly recommend the Anker external batteries. I just bought a 5,000 MAH
Anker "PowerCore" battery from Amazon.ca for $25.99 with free shipping. It is a
round cylinder that is about an inch and a quarter in diameter (3.3 cm to be
exact) and 4 inches long (10.8 cm). It has a bit of weight to it, but like all
Anker products it feels very solid and well made. If you know what a large
D-Cell battery feels like you can picture it, a D-Cell is 3.3 cm by 6.1 cm so
this Anker battery is exactly the same diameter and at 10.8 cm long it is not
quite as long as two D-Cell batteries end to end, to be exact is is 1.75 the
size.
Anker claims it has the best size to capacity ratio of any external battery,
here is a link on Amazon.ca:

Hi everyone! I need some help! I need to find a new battery charger which is
portable for my phone, the one that I have right now only charges 70 or 80% of
the 5s phone, whereas when I charged it to my old phone for S, it charged all

RE: Portable phone charger either can be plugged in by USB wire to computer

2016-08-18 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi Simon.

I'm not exactly sure what you're wanting, but I'll tell you what I think you
want, and then give you a good source to get it.

What I think you want is an external battery for your iPhone. Older iPhones
don't have as large a battery as new ones, so if you're using an external
battery to charge it, this is why you're not getting as full a charge as you
were with an older iPhone.

Now, if you're looking for an external battery to charge your iPhone, I
recommend the Anker brand of batteries. Go to

http://amazon.com

and search for Anker. I just purchased an E7 2nd Gen Astro, and it works
great. It's not the cheapest, but I wanted a large capacity battery. It will
charge my iPhone 6S Plus up to six times per charge, so I figure I'll have
plenty of charge for my iPhone. Anker makes smaller batteries for not only
iPhones, but iPads, and, in fact, anything that can plug into a USB port. Oh
yeah, one other thing. Some blue tooth devices won't be charged with the E7
due to being below a minimal current level to charge.

Hope this helps.

Have a blessed day and don't work too hard.

RE: converting mp3 books for the iPhone

2016-08-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
When I used to do this more I used a free piece of Windows software called
Chapter and Vers. It combined all my MP3 files into a single M4R file, but you
were still able to navigate by whatever length the MP3 files were. For example,
if you had a book where each chapter was it’s own MP3 file then the single file
basically had chapter navigation.

Escape from the Amazon - Rewinding the Story

2016-08-18 Thread Daniel L. Gervais
I was wondering if anyone else out there has played or is currently playing
this game. I've been playing this game for a little while now and was
wondering if anyone knew how to rewind the story in the event your character
dies? I know that in other similar games, you always had the option, that if
your character died because of the choice you made, you could go back to the
last or second to last choices and try a different option.

In Timecrest, you just use a Time Crystal, but it would be nice to know if this
can be done in this game or if you really have no choice and have to restart
from the very beginning.

Thanks!

Hi!

Yes, you should convert multiple mp3s as a single m4b file so the original
single files could represent chapters in m4b.

I tried some apps and I wasn't satisfied with those so I also look forward for
recommendations.

 Hello,
I also use Sport scores and alerts, and I will say that after you set it

will have to open the app for.
One thing I like about it is that it allows you to customize what type
 of
alerts you get for each of your favorite teams.
For example, for each NFL team, you can have the following alerts:
 Team News.
 Game Started.
 Game Complete.
 End of Quarter.
 Score Change.
 Leed Change.
 Close Game.
 Red Zone.
 Score Updates every 5 Minutes.

Of coarse, you do not have to have all of these types alerts turned on.
 You
only turn on the types of alerts you want.

If you need any help with the app, let me know.

 Hope this helps,

 Chris
But having all of these different types of alerts available helps you
 keep
really good track of the game in case you are out and can not watch the
 game.

The BOA app is awesome, I have never had a bit of problems using it with
VoiceOver. The actual BOA website is a nightmare though, unless you use the
mobile version, but the app is still much easier to use.

The BOA app is fully accessible.
You can access all your account information, set up bill pay and pay them,
transfer money from one account to another, take a picture of a check and
deposit it, etc.

I found it, thanks for the tip. They don't really make it easy to find
don't they? Although when I purchased it, it seemed to be $6.99, a little
too rich for my blood but I still went ahead and purchased it.

The only thing I am wondering though, and I don't know if you play Kingdoms
on multiple iDevices, if you purchase the ad-free on one device, do you have
to go on your other device and restore the purchase or does it automatically
remove ads when you first launch the game? I would guess that it does it
automatically as when I played my turn on my second device, no ads popped
up.

Anyways, thanks for the help, it's greatly appreciated!

There is a ad free version of Trivia Crack Kingdoms, I have it. You have to
purchase it by going through the app though, it is not in the app store.
Double tap on the two places I mentioned in my previous email to locate it.
I guess they could have pulled it, but trust me, I bought the ad free
version. I have the ad free versions ob both Trivia Crack and Trivia Crack

Hi to all,

Thought I would let everyone know that the recent update to Trivia Crack has
fixed the issue with the bottom tabs, they are now visible to Voicever.

I know that probably everyone has growned tired of playing this game but I
still enjoy it from time to time.

On a similar note, in the Trivia Crack Kingdoms, does the game still have
ads that appear when completing your turn in a game? If so, is there a way
to do an in-app purchase to remove the ads?

I love that game too but I stopped playing a while ago as when the ads would
appear, some of them had no way of closing them, so I had to completely
close the app and restart.

Thanks!

There is the option in the app to edit a course. I'm assuming from the
reqlly quick read of the instructions that you can customize the
lessons e.g., add or take away. What you're asked to type in the
tutorial is shown, so you can read through and see what you're being
asked to type.

This came in handy for the "bad bee" example, and the sentences lesson.

Hoping this helps someone else exploring the app.

Re: air radio tune app is free today

2016-08-18 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi.

It is sadly not free any more, but I bought it for 8 dkk about a little more
than a dollar. It looks easy to use. My tunein has stopped working, so this is
a nice new one.

Best regards Annie.

 Hi David

Basically to save a station you go to the genre you want you play that
station under the station there's an add to favorites button to play the
station you go to the play stop button there is one thing we need to ask
him to do is to make it where you can do the double tap for play and stop
and I will be asking him to do that as soon as I get a chance other than
that the whole app is very very very accessible he's done a good job on
 that

Re: converting mp3 books for the iPhone

2016-08-18 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
Yes, you should convert multiple mp3s as a single m4b file so the
original single files could represent chapters in m4b.
I tried some apps and I wasn't satisfied with those so I also
  look forward for recommendations.

Re: Trivia Crack Update

2016-08-18 Thread Daniel L. Gervais
I found it, thanks for the tip. They don't really make it easy to find don't
they? Although when I purchased it, it seemed to be $6.99, a little too rich
for my blood but I still went ahead and purchased it.

The only thing I am wondering though, and I don't know if you play Kingdoms on
multiple iDevices, if you purchase the ad-free on one device, do you have to go
on your other device and restore the purchase or does it automatically remove
ads when you first launch the game? I would guess that it does it
automatically as when I played my turn on my second device, no ads popped up.

Kingdoms.

Did they finally release a Trivia Crack Kingdoms Ad-Free version?I've
looked and the only Trivia Crack game that has an Ad-Free version is the
original, not Kingdoms.

I did myself buy the Ad-Free original game and have been hoping they release
a Kingdoms Ad-Free version but so far, no luck.

Since I have already purchased the ad free version of Trivia Track Kingdoms,
I am not exactly Sure where I double tapped, but try either double tapping
on where it says pull down to refresh or where it says last updated. I know
you can get it, because I have it. I think it was $1.99 or something like
that. I love playing both Trivia crack and Trivia Crack Kingdoms, but no one
ever wants to continue playing.

Thanks!
