RE: Voice Over accessibility for Sonos

2016-10-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sorry, I forgot about your own library. Yes, Sonos has access to it but of
course your PC has to be on. Ideal is a network attached hard drive because any
music you have on it and where you point Sonos to that network share is always
available whether the computer is on or not.

I forgot to mention in my previous email that I purchased the sonostesia book
by Jonathan Mosen and it was an excellent read I read it from cover to cover.
Not only that I also went into the store and looked at the Sonos speakers. But
I really do want to know about the playlist from Apple Music. And also my
personal library on my computer. I couldn't understand this clearly from
reading the book alone. excuse me for being naïve while I love music I'm just

RE: Voice Over accessibility for Sonos

2016-10-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Katie,

Are you subscribed to Apple Music? If so, then Sonos does support it. I think
you really get the full benefit of the Sonos system if you do subscribe either
to Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer or one of the other major music services. For
many of us who have iOS Devices and maybe an Apple TV I think Apple Music is
the service which makes the most sense.

Re: Voice Over accessibility for Sonos

2016-10-28 Thread Kathy Metters
Hello
I also am considering getting a Sonos play five for my birthday coming up. I
have one question though. I have music match through iTunes. Can I play my
playlist that I have on Apple Music if that contain songs from my music match?
I really need to know this.

are my voicemails gone forever now that I upgraded

2016-10-28 Thread Paul Ferrara
All, I seem to remember the last time I upgraded phones 18 months ago that
email and voicemail was deleted, never to be found again.
In the last 18 months, I had two voicemails I saved and wanted to keep forever;
however, I forgot about my old ones disappearing. I couldn’t care less about
the email; the voice mail—totally different thing. Is there anything at all I
can do to retrieve them, or are they, as I suspect, permanently gone.

Thanks.

Paul

Re: "no items found"

2016-10-28 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone

I'm getting a different one! :]

It's only started yesterday/today. I go into a textbox in Messenger to
respond to someone's text and hear something about using handwriting.
Now, I don't have the handwriting option ticked on the rotor since I
never use it. (I've checked it hasn't happened accidentally.)

I check the textbox, realise I can keyboard so I start to do that.
Immediately I put down my phone whilst still writing the message, the
"handwriting" comment is spoken once again.

I'll try VO as the possible culpret next time I pick up my phone!

I do notice that this occurs when I suddenly find myself having selected
another keyboard, which just happens to be the MBraille one and then,
getting out of that one is a nightmare and still persists, sometimes, after
rebootdd

Has anyone any ideas on this senario, please!

Re: Question on iPad mini

2016-10-28 Thread Mary Otten
You know, I don't remember when the iPad one was released. It was when Steve
Jobs was there. I purchased mine the following year, right when the iPad 2 came
out. The iPad one dropped seriously in price, and I got a good deal from AT
on one. It is stuck on iOS five point something.
Of course it has the old 30 pin connector. It really feels heavy now and thick.
How the times have changed.

Well,Rajmund, maybe you are just more patient than I am. It just seems
like applications are taking quite a while to open these days, as compared
to my iPhone 7 Plus or even the 6S, which I had before I turned it in in
favor of the 7+. I am also having a lot of trouble with voice dream reader
on my mini two, crashing, slow opening, app freezing, etc. I am not having
this problem on my iPhone 7 Plus, and I didn't have it on my iPhone 6s. Of
course, I suspect that Ed's grandkids won't be using that app. So, the
mini two still works, I just think it's showing it's age.

Go look in your battery area and see what's using the most. This is how
a number of us narrowed it down to Roger a few weeks ago when they
pushed out a bad update.

Re: Bug report for moving insertion point/reviewing text typed into a search field in Safari; Follow-up: 651196357

2016-10-28 Thread englishrider91
Having just read through all the messages in this thread, I went to AppleVis
and performed the exact same steps as Richard, and holy crap! That's absolutely
awful! I think the accessibility people were trying to be helpful, but this is
really not helpful. Once I understood the differences between how Windows and
Mac/iOS handled cursor movement, I was set. I don't need to know where the
cursor is--not through VO explisitly telling me in the manner it is in iOS 10,
anyway. What I need VO to tell me is the letter just moved passed, like it
always has done before this update.

Re: first questions with apple watch 2

2016-10-28 Thread William Windels
Hello again,

I found already a answer to my first question.
The watch isn’t speaking anymore if I left up my hand.
but I have some new questions:

3: when my watch is sleeping, is there any difference between waking up the
watch with the doc-button or with a press on the digital cron?
4: it happens that I hear a sound: can be watsap, calendar, message, mail….
but I can’t see any message in the message-center.
5: when I set the timer with siri, siri is not replying on the watch that the
timer is running while siri response this message on the iPhone.

Many Thanx for any responses, suggestions

Kind regards,
William Windels

When was that even released? And what IOS can it handle? As for the battery,
you can always use it off charge, when the battery goes.

Hi Mary,
Whoa, OK, yeah, that, I'll give you. I still have my trusty 5S, with a loose,
although never dropped screen, as well as the iPad air, so compared to those,
mine are slow. As for voice dream, never used it, so can't comment on it. Think
you're just used to things happening faster, rather than the things slowing
down, if I make sense.

Re: Question on iPad mini

2016-10-28 Thread Mary Otten
You could be right. Believe it or not, I still have an original iPad. Now if
you want to talk about slow, that's it. It is useless except for playing
audiobooks from audible. That's all I use it for. I'm just waiting for the
battery to die. I can't believe it still works after all this time.

2016-10-28 Thread Mary Otten
Well,Rajmund, maybe you are just more patient than I am. It just seems like
applications are taking quite a while to open these days, as compared to my
iPhone 7 Plus or even the 6S, which I had before I turned it in in favor of the
7+. I am also having a lot of trouble with voice dream reader on my mini two,
crashing, slow opening, app freezing, etc. I am not having this problem on my
iPhone 7 Plus, and I didn't have it on my iPhone 6s. Of course, I suspect that
Ed's grandkids won't be using that app. So, the mini two still works, I just
think it's showing it's age.

Hi Mary,
Interesting. My air, till I downgraded, was just fine on 10, and that's the
same age as your mini 2. Wonder why they don't perform the same way?

This has nothing to do with Apple this. This is an Apple site. Apple Vis is a
community organized and run site. Totally separate.

good deals on that coming down the line.

Re: Strange Problems Getting the NantMobile Money Reader

2016-10-28 Thread gs
Well, there are still times when it won't work for me. However, it may not
always be necessary to completely reboot.

Just clear the memory. Hold the sleep/wake button for three seconds until you
see the option to power off.

Then press and hold the home button for six to eight seconds depending on which
phone you have.

Try loading Money Reader and recognizing currency again.

Hi,
Have you rebooted since install? I ask because sometimes Money Reader goes into
a coma here and though it’s running won’t identify money but if I reboot it’ll
spring back to life.
Good luck.

Well, thanks to your suggestion, I changed the search to iPhone Only, and I was
able to download both apps.
But unfortunately neither of them works. I waved a dollar bill in front of my
camera repeatedly while each app was running and it said nothing. I know the
camera works because I opened TapTapSee immediately after trying Eyenote and
the NantMobile Reader, and the camera works fine.
I guess I’ll have to wait for these apps to be updated before I can identify
any money with them.

Subject: Strange Problems Getting the NantMobile Money Reader

I’m having some very strange issues getting the NantMobile Money Reader.
I have an iPad Mini 4, and I downloaded the app with iTunes last night, but it
won't transfer to my iPad. I downloaded the Google Search app the night before
last, (thanks to Jonathan for showing that it works better than Siri on one of
his recent Explosions), and it transfered just fine using iTunes. And, this
morning, I bought the Hourly News app for $1 with iTunes, and it also
transfered just fine.
So I'm a bit mystified. I've been able to install apps using iTunes prior to
and after the NantMobile Money Reader, but not that one. Is there a way to make
iTunes forget that I downloaded the app so I can try it again? Right now the
download button is disabled. I've connected my iPad to my laptop several times,
and every time, iTunes says that it's synchronizing, and makes that sound when
it's done, but the app doesn't appear.
But that’s not the end of it. Things get stranger.
I tried to find the app with my iPad directly, thinking that if iTunes won't
transfer it, I could install it that way. I've done it with the BARD app and
the free version of the Tunein app with no problems.
I can't find it. I did a search on the app store with no results. I tried the
name exactly as it appears, entering carefully and checking it several times,
NantMobile Money Reader, and when that didn't yield any results, I tried just
Mobile Money Reader with some results, but not the money reader.
I am now more mystified than ever.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks very much.
Evan

And if you forget again you can simply go to www.Apple.com and click on the
"Accessibility" link which will take you straight to the accessibility site. It
can be easily found by using Jaws Key+F7 to bring up the list of links on the
main page and start typing "Accessibility", you get there after the first
couple of letters or you can use the Jaws Find feature and search for it. I'm
sure if you use a different screen reader you know the equivalent commands.

Sieghard

RE: Question on iPad mini

2016-10-28 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Sieghard,

Thanks for the info. Having all that info help me a lot to give information to
my daughter in law. She is looking at buying the kids a couple iPad Mini 2.
They have new ones at Best Buy for $219.99. There is not a lot of different
between the 2,3, and 4. The 2 has a A7 chip and the 4 has an a8.

Once again thanks for the info.

Hi Ed,

If you ever want information about the models and release dates of iDevices
just Google, to use your example of the iPad: “iPad Mini models and release
info”

This usually brings up a link to Wikipedia as one of the top search results and
here you find this information in a concise and

easy to read way. From the below information it is apparent that the iPad Mini
4 (the model released in September 2015) is the one to buy, it has the best
chip, best camera, support for the highest bluetooth version and the most RAM
as well as support for WiFi 802.11AC. Apple still may sell the iPad Mini 3, but
I doubt they still officially sell the Ipad Mini 2 and definitely not the first

If you have any questions

RE: What is the name of that app?

2016-10-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The ability to “block” numbers is built into iOS. Go to Settings > Phone >
Blocked Numbers. You can also block a number from the recent call list, just
tap on the “More” button and then double tap to block the number near the
bottom.
Of course these numbers aren’t actually blocked, if somebody whom you block
calls you they won’t get a message that they are blocked, but you won’t notice
that they have called, I believe their calls don’t even show up in the recent
call list. I doubt any app can actually totally block a call, this would have
to be done by your provider/carrier and I think many carriers do offer this for
a monthly fee.

Hi Kim,

I checked out a few, but many seem to be not that accessible. If you don't
get a good recommendation you might want to check out Applevis.com. Keep in
mind that you can ask SIRI to convert currency for you or if you go to
Google.com in Safari or use the Google app you can also do currency
conversions. If you use the Google app you can also use your voice, e.g.
"Convert 60 british pounds to canadian Dollars". Otherwise you can type your
query in the following format (I am using the same example):

60 gbp in cad

This also works great on a desktop or laptop, Google displays the result of
the conversion before all the other search results for online conversion
sites etc.
Google and SIRI, by the way, gave me the exact same result for the 60
british pounds to canadian dollar conversion.

Syncing Appointments with IPhone and Outlook on PC

Well, the subject of my previous message did not say it all: it said totally
nothing! I resend my request for info about how to get the same appointments

those, like me, who don't trust messages without a subject, will see my

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Syncing iPhone Calendar with Outlook, Can This Be Done?

2016-10-28 Thread Terrie Terlau
Subject says it all. I schedule appointments on my 6 S Plus iPhone's
calendar, but also want them to show up on my Outlook calendar on the PC.
Can I do this somehow:? Is there a way to tell Siri to send an appointment
to an email address? Or, if I had iCloud on my PC, would an iCloud calendar
show the appointments on the PC?

Confused and many thanks,

Terrie Terlau

Yes indeed. Thank you and Richard for the suggestion, and Money Reader is now

Hi,
Have you rebooted since install?

Evan

Have you allowed them access to the camera? Usually the app will prompt you to
do so when you first open it, but if you somehow skipped over this you can go
to Settings > Privacy and see if Money Reader is allowed access to the camera
in the camera section.

Re: Strange Problems Getting the NantMobile Money Reader

2016-10-28 Thread Evan Reese
Well hey! Once again, Richard, your suggestion was very helpful. The rebooting
did the trick, at least for the NantMobile Money Reader. It works great now. It
even warned me that there was no light. Being totally blind, I don’t turn the
light on in my office unless I need it for TapTapSee, or someone comes in who
needs it, and I tend to even forget that it’s dark in here. Once I turned the
light on, it identified several bills pretty quickly.
Eyenote, however, is still not working. That’s unfortunate, but I’m not going
to worry about it because I now have a great app for identifying money, so I’ll
probably just delete that one.
Thanks a lot for helping me get over this hurdle; and this is all good info in
the event that I have trouble finding an app or getting it to work in the
future.

As Sieghard said, make sure you gave permission to the app to access the camera.

If you don’t recall doing that, go to Settings and find each app in the list
and check that they are allowed to use the camera.

If they are and they still don’t work, then rebooting is for sure the step to
try.

If none of that works, delete the app and reinstall it.

I’ve never had both apps not giving me results at the same time.

One or the other always works.

I’d do the power plus home button held for about 7 or 8 seconds then released
as the rebooting method of choice.

Good luck,

Richard

Hi Ed,

If you ever want information about the models and release dates of iDevices
just Google, to use your example of the iPad: “iPad Mini models and release

This usually brings up a link to Wikipedia as one of the top search results and
here you find this information in a concise and

Yes, the mini four came out last year. But it has the 2014 chip in it, which
means it's two years old in terms of its core technology.

They started out with the iPad mini 1. I don't think you will find that though.
I believe they started coming out with iPad minis in 2013. I could be wrong.
The latest one came out in 2015 called the iPad mini 4. I belie the iPad mini 2
came out in 2014. Have a great day.

Yup, it was the first thing both programs asked me when I first opened them,
and I hit the Okay button to allow access to the camera.
I’ll try the rebooting suggestion and see what happens.

Have you allowed them access to the camera? Usually the app will prompt you to
do so when you first open it, but if you somehow skipped over this you can go
to Settings > Privacy and see if Money Reader is allowed access to the camera
in the camera section.

iTunes forget that I downloaded the app so I can try it again? Right now the

it's done, but the app doesn't appear.

But that’s not the end of it. Things get stranger.

I tried to find the app with my iPad directly, thinking that if iTunes won't

I can't find it. I did a search on the app store with no results. I tried the

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks very much.

RE: Spodify subscription question

2016-10-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Same thing, maybe you didn't see this, but when I replied originally I
mentioned that I usually also use gift cards which I buy when they are 20% off
to put a couple of hundred Dollars on my account, this then pays for our Apple
Music Family subscription which here in Canada is $15/month or $180 a year and
my 50 Gb of iCloud storage which I think is a bit over a Dollar here. This way
Apple Music effectively costs me only $12 a month.

2016-10-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And if you forget again you can simply go to www.Apple.com and click on the
"Accessibility" link which will take you straight to the accessibility site. It
can be easily found by using Jaws Key+F7 to bring up the list of links on the
main page and start typing "Accessibility", you get there after the first
couple of letters or you can use the Jaws Find feature and search for it. I'm
sure if you use a different screen reader you know the equivalent commands.

I'm not worried about getting the code and entering it, although I don't have
any vision. When I am worried about our glitches such that the code doesn't
come or whatever, essentially making your two factor authentication unusable
and locking you out on your new device. There have been some talk about some
major problems, not specified, unless I didn't see the follow up message, with
this system. So I was wondering what they were.
 That would be a problem.

Question on iPad mini

2016-10-28 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Group,

I am looking at an iPad Mini for my grandson. Can someone tell me what the
first iPad Mini was called. Another words was it an iPad Mini 2? I don't
remember what model they started out with. Also which model is the latest
one? Also can anyone give me what year the models came out. For example what
year about did the iPad Mini 2 come out?

Thanks for any help on this.

Ed

Evan

If she wants free music then her best option is an app like Tune In or
iHeart radio where she can listen to tons of music for free. If she wants to
listen to specific music and doesn't mind paying $10 a month I would totally
recommend she gets an Apple music subscription. As long as she is on WiFi or
has a data connection and if she has a big enough data plan she never has to
store a single song on her phone. She can also tell SIRI what she wants to
listen to and, if you want access and share it with her, you culd subscribe
to an Apple Music family plan for $14.99 and I think up to 4 people can be
added to that. The $9.99 and $14.99 is what is costs in Canada, maybe it is
the same otherwise chances are it might even be less in the US since $10
Canadian at the current exchange rate is only around $7.50 US. Another way
to knock 10, 15 or 20% off that subscription cost is to look for discounted
iTunes gift cards and put enough credit on your account to cover the
subscription for a year, e.g. if it is $10 a month then buy $120 worth of
iTunes gift cards which, if you find a 20% off deal would only cost $96 in
actual cash and then put these on your account and unless you buy other
stuff this would cover a whole year of Apple Music.
There are of course other subscriptions like Spotify, Deezer etc., but for
me Apple Music is the way to go if you are into Apple devices.

Sieghard

Hi, Everyone.
My Mom's got an iPhone with only 8G of storage. She asked about being able

What are the options I can tell her about? I know about Pandora and Last
FM--have to learn to use these myself.

But what are her options if she wants to purchase music through iTunes? Can
she store her music in the Cloud and use either Wifi or her data plan when
she wants to listen?

Thanks,

RE: Strange Problems Getting the NantMobile Money Reader

2016-10-28 Thread Richard Turner
As Sieghard said, make sure you gave permission to the app to access the camera.
If you don’t recall doing that, go to Settings and find each app in the list
and check that they are allowed to use the camera.
If they are and they still don’t work, then rebooting is for sure the step to
try.
If none of that works, delete the app and reinstall it.
I’ve never had both apps not giving me results at the same time.
One or the other always works.
I’d do the power plus home button held for about 7 or 8 seconds then released
as the rebooting method of choice.

Good luck,
Richard

Re: Two factor authentication issues?

2016-10-28 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
thank you I was worried about myself for a minute there (laughs).
I'm glad I hadn't stated it or imagined it wrongly.

You are indeed correct. The old two-step verification uses the recovery key,
while the two-factor authentication does not have that option. I made the
change to the 2FA a few months ago.

Hi,
Wow in iOS 10.0.2 I think it was at the time no such option was presented
during phone setup at all; nor did the lovely Apple rep who guided me
through my very rare spell of panic indicate that such could be used
anymore. To further confuse matters I thought there were two variations
of

Apple's tfa and the older form made use of such a key but it was my
understanding that had you switched to the newer incarnation therein such
was gone. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct.
Either way it can be quite confusing and sadly it's why many just don't
bother with it. I'll probably turn it on as soon as my second iDevice
arrives hopefully next week.

Hi,
the only time I encountered an issue with this was recently when upgrading
from one iPhone to another the system texted the code to my number but
since

my phone wasn't fully up and running and operational I couldn't get it to
sign into iCloud properly. So I had to set up phone as new, skipping
iCloud

sign in go to apple ID and turn off TFA and then restore phone from cloud
after the fact. their system used to have a recovery key you could use for
times when you're off line but they've taken that away so much as it pains
me for the moment I have it turned off. If one has more than one Apple
device you shouldn't necessarily encounter this but for me it made for
some
heart racy kind of moments so for now it's off but usually it's my
practice

to use it wherever and whenever I can but I admit sometimes it causes the
user more stress than those it's trying to deter from evil doing.

I'm not worried about getting the code and entering it, although I don't
have any vision. When I am worried about our glitches such that the code
doesn't come or whatever, essentially making your two factor
authentication

unusable and locking you out on your new device. There have been some talk
about some major problems, not specified, unless I didn't see the follow
up

message, with this system. So I was wondering what they were.
That would be a problem.

Re: Today's keynote event announced a new accessibility website.

2016-10-28 Thread christopher hallsworth
All I can say is check it out. I had a look last night, and it's nice. At least
now you can easily get to the user guides for all of their products, in
accessible formats, for example. Before, you had to go through hoops before you
can get to them. Even if you found them, they may be in PDF format, something
that may be inconvenient for some users.

It *definitely* will. I always pay for my subscriptions with gift cards, and
not once do I remember Apple using my stored payment info unless they have to
of course, such as recovering any outstanding balances because of the gift card
