RE: Wireless Charging, Anyone? It's a Chicken-and-egg Problem That Can Only Be Solved By a Fruit

2017-02-26 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Sieghard,

Actually, I have an iPhone 7 and also the Belkin adapter that lets me listen
with my wired earpods and charge at the same time. I have found that I don't do
this quite as often as I used to but keeping up with the adapter and using it
as needed isn't a problem for me. And I'd be willing to bet that you'll be
paying considerably more than $40 in device cost to cover the wireless charging
when it's added. But that rumored phone is also supposed to be about 5.8 inches
in size with no home button so I'm pretty sure I won't be getting it.

Hi Alan,

You forget that the iPhone 7/7 Plus and most likely all iPhones going forward
don't have a 3.5mm headphone jack. This means that if you want to use a wired
headset you need to use the Lightning port hence you can't charge while using a
headset or vice versa. Yes, I know you can spend $40 and buy this splitter
gadget from Belkin, but who wants to do that and have another piece of cable to
bring along or more clutter.

Unfortunately there are already rumours which indicate that Apple may release a
new high-end model this year with a 5.8 inch OLED screen and that this year
only this huge super phone will get the wireless charging. I really hope this
is not so, if it is I think I'll stick with my 6S Plus for another year because
if wireless charging comes only to a high-end and high-priced iPhone this year
it will certainly come to the other phones next year. I would totally go back
to a 4.7 inch phone if battery life was better or if the phone was constantly
being charged wirelessly when I'm at home or at my office.

Sieghard

Mark,

Thanks for the info. I guess I'm more old school because finding access to an
outlet or USB port to charge my iPhone really doesn't seem to be that big of a
deal. And if I'm on the move, carrying a small external battery power source
isn't much of a hassle either. But I've no doubt that wireless charging is
inevitable and I hope after reading the below history and its complexities that
the eventual convenience of wireless charging is worth its cost.

And just because wireless charging is in a phone doesn't mean consumers are
taking advantage of it -- or even aware of the capability.

The market is expected to nearly double to 375 million devices in 2017, and
Green said he expects at least one more player to publicly embrace wireless

As Richard says, time to upgrade. The bug about not being able to rearrange
favourites was I think first mentioned by Mark Taylor and was fixed in 10.2.
There is no reason why you should stay on 10.1, update to the latest public
version or wait a few weeks and go straight to 10.3. If you read a lot of email
on your iPhoe upgrading to 10.2 is a bit annoying because Voiceover does not
automatically start reading at the beginning of the message body when you open
an email, instead you have to either swipe through the header or touch
somewhere in the middle to try and find the beginning of a message. That's why
I said you might want to wait a few weeks since I'm sure iOS 10.3 public
release is no more than 3 or 4 weeks away.

Boost Mobile and cheap iPhones

2017-02-26 Thread Gordon
I was looking around earlier on the Boost Mobile website and they are
selling the 5S for $99, the SE for $179 and the 7 for $449. They have
the SE 64 gig for $200 something. These phones all appear to be bran new
for those who might have decent Sprint coverage and are working with a
budget. I was surprised to see the 7 for $449.

RE: Airpod question.

2017-02-26 Thread Cristóbal
I read an article on the Wirecutter having to do with reviewing different
headphones and the other day and airpods were not on the reviewer's list of
top choices. They went over how ultimately, it depends on the activity you're
doing. If working out, then maybe this set or if you want to make/receive
business ccalls, that headset, actual music listening, then the other. This
person in particular said they cycled through seven different headphones for
all sorts of scenarios.
Their summary of the airpods and why they chose to use other headphones is
that the airpods basically don't feel like a fully baked product yet. That's
more or less the feeling I get from everything I've read about them and why I
haven't taken the plunge and bought them.
I have multiple headphones that I switch out. Voyager Edge for making and
receiving calls as I find it to be the most complete earpiece. Especially
for noise canceling sinceI use it for business. Some wired bos sport earbuds
for car travel or longer listening, Trekz bone conduction headphones for when
I want to give my ears a rest and do some leasurely audiobook or podcast
listening or while working out and bluetooth Photive over the ear
headphones thatalso have a 3.5 cable option for good music listening as I
find them good to block out other noises.
I know lots of people don't have the budget to buy all sorts of headphones,
but airpods also cost a pretty penny. I just dont' see right now where
airpodswoudl really fit in my listening needs or what of I already have they
would actually replace. That or god forbid, you lose one and have to shell
out some cash to get a replacement airpod.

I agree with respect to comfort and sound quality, but until they add a volume
control they aren't getting my money. Also, Mark, what about the apparently
terrible switching or not switching if you have an iPhone and an Apple Watch?
My Voyager Edge also pauses playback when I take it out of my ear and when
paired to my iPhone and Apple Watch it does seamlessly switch, if I listen to a
book and my Apple Watch plays an alert or I press the crown to hear the time it
instantly can be heard on my Voyager Edge and afterwards it almost instantly
switches back to the iPhone audio. From all I heard this does not work nearly
that well with Airpods when of course it should work at least as good or even
better. Also, if the Voyager Edge and many other bluetooth earpieces support
answering a phone call simply by saying "Answer" or send it to voice mail if I
say "Decline" why don't the Airpods do something so basic and useful?

Hello Everyone,

As with many things in life, it's all a matter of opinion.

I can tell you that of all the 20+ Bluetooth headsets I've owned throughout the
years, Apple Airpods are my absolute, without a doubt, favorite.

I am amazed with how seamlessly they interface with iPhone. I absolutely love
the fact that I can effortlessly switch from a single-ear to two-ear and back
to a single-ear configuration, on the fly.

The auto-ear detection is as close to magic as I've yet experienced on a
Smartphone.

If I am playing a song or listening to a book/podcast with Airpods, all I need
do is to remove the Airpod from my ear and playback will pause and not resume
until I place the Airpod back in my ear. Amazing!

My favorite feature of Airpods, however, is how beautifully VoiceOver switches
between Airpods and iPhone.

With iPhone in my breast pocket, for example, and an alert comes in, that I
want to explore privately, I simply place an Airpod in my ear and sound
automatically transfers from the phone to my ear; when I'm done, I simply drop
the Airpod back into either its case or a pocket, and sound automatically
reverts back to iPhone.

This may be difficult to believe but last night, I panicked when I could not
find one of my Airpods only to have a sighted friend inform me that it was in
my left ear. I know, I couldn't believe it either. Talk about being
embarrassed; but they really are that comfortable. smile)

Mind you, I am using Airpods with iPhone 6 Plus, only, so I can only imagine
how much better they perform with newer iPhone models.

I think Airpods are well worth their price and that Apple, once again, has
ushered in a new era of technology with this most innovative accessory.

RE: App switcher question

2017-02-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Donald and Anna,

On an iPhone as old as the 3GS flicking up with 3 fingers won’t work. The old
way was to double tap and hold on an app once you are in the app switcher and
then you double tap each app to close it, it’s basically like deleting an app
on the home screen. I can’t remember in what version of iOS Apple introduced
the flicking up method, but it was probably iOS 6 or something like that,
certainly beyond what the 3GS can run.

The BeatsX does not offer noise cancellation, just noise isolation. This means
it plugs up your ear quite well and you don’t have much outside noise coming
in, noise cancellation usually means the headset generates white noise to
counteract outside noise.

Hi Eric,

Good choice, I think the current Airpods are quite a rip-off and in fact I was
at an Apple Store today to buy a headset for my wife as an anniversary present
and I was looking forward to checking out the Beats Solo and walked away deeply
disappointed. I am in Canada so the Beats Solo here is $329.95 + taxes and
while they sounded OK I could simply not believe such a large and, according to
Apple, advanced headset has no volume control. First the Airpods have no volume
control and now the Beats Solo also has no volume control, if this is the
wireless future Apple invisions they need glasses. I ended up getting her a
pair of the new BeatsX since she prefers earbud style headsets anyways over big
clunky ones. As for the Solo I can only say that in addition to the lack of a
volume control the sound is also just OK, I mean it's good but not special for
the price. I have listened to many a headset that costs between $150 and $200
Canadian and think they sounded just as good.

Another thing I noticed is that the canadian price for the BeatsX is a lot more
favourible than that of the Airpods. If I am not mistaken the BeatsX in the
States are $149 and the Airpods are $159, a $10 difference. Here in Canada the
BeatsX are $179 and the Airpods are $219, a $40 difference in our currency. If
I use the current exchange rate and convert $149 for the BeatsX to canadian it
works out to about $195 Canadian, but Apple Canada only charges $179 so
compared to the US price it's actually a good deal. If I convert the $159 US
for the Airpods to Canadian it is $208 or $209 so at $219 Apple put a 5%
upcharge on it at least based on the current exchange rate. How a $10 US
difference works out to be a $40 Canadian difference when $10 US is about $13.2
or $13.5 I don't know.

All in all I think that currently you can get a much better bang for your buck
if you look at third-party headsets and the Apple W1 chip to me seems very much
overrated. In fact, apart from the admitedly simple pairing process and maybe
the fact that any other Apple device that is connected to the same Apple Id is
supposed to pair I don't see a big advantage.

If you think of it the initial pairing process of a regular bluetooth headset

Thanks for that information, I guess the Apple sales staff then needs better
training because I could not figure out how to adjust the volume, each time I
pressed anywhere it would either pause the music or start playing again or it
would activate SIRI. The sales person I dealt with even ran off to talk to his
supervisor and then came back and said they indeed did not have volume
controls. Anyhow, here in Canada the Beats Solo are $329 and while they sounded
good I don’t think they sounded better than a $200 Plantronics Backbeat Sense I
once owned and currently this is just not a priority for me. I rather save my
money until hopefully the next generation of Airpods is released with volume
controls and hopefully more advanced features.

push and hold the on/off button and the only difference is that a message pops
up on the screen asking if you want to connect to them so you save yourself a
few taps by not having to go into bluetooth settings and to double tap on a
newly paired device. With the BeatsX I had to double tap on "Connect" and then
on "Done" with a normal bluetooth headset I have to double tap on Settings,
then Bluetooth and then on the newly found device so it's one double tap more.

Hello Kay,

I have read your post several times yet am not certain that I understand your

The only thing I can suggest is that you delete the draft message that is most

Open the draft message or messages, as the case may be, then find the cancel

RE: Problem with Outlook

2017-02-26 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Terri,

As this is not a Microsoft support forum, our ability to assist you is limited.

What I can tell you is that if your copy of Outlook is pulling mail from a
Google server, such as would be the case if you are using gMail, then it is
very likely that your gMail account has been updated in order to increase your
account security. This means that by default, older versions of Outlook can no
longer access the server unless you manually enable Google to allow for
non-secure email clients.

To do this, simply google something like, “how to enable non-secure email
clients for gMail”, and you will find the steps to accomplish this.

Also, I suggest that you join a support forum that is dedicated to your Windows
7 screen reader of choice. They will most likely be able to help you in such
matters.

Good Luck,

Subject: Problem with Outlook

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding Outlook, on my laptop. I realize I should ask this
question somewhere else. But I honestly don't know where else to ask it. Plus,
the issue does affect my iPhone at times, but is easily correctable.

I am still using windows 7. I use Thunderbyrd as my mail client. I wouldn't
really know what else to use. Plus, I like it.

For quite a while now, I am asked to enter my password. I know the password
well, so this is not an issue.
This problem can happen often, and usually over time, I can get it to work
again.
But since late last night, I can't seem to straighten out the issue. Every time
I enter my password, I get a message saying that the log inn has failed.
As you can see, I can use the Outlook App on my phone, just fine. So I am
really at a loss as to what to do, anymore.
I can't send email from my laptop, and in most cases, I would prefer to do this.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what could be going on?
If so, would you have any suggestions as to how to fix the issue, preferably
for good?

Any help with this matter would be very much appreciated. I am beyond
frustrated at this point.

Thank you,

Terri

Problem with screen clutter while writing emails

2017-02-26 Thread Kay Malmquist
Hello,
I am using an iPhone 6 ass with iOS 9 something on it. It seems as though when
I am writing emails, there is a lot of screen clutter. What I mean is I think
the draft is getting in the way of things. When I shake to undo that doesn't
seem to work and I have other issues while writing email. I have never had this
problem before but wondered if anybody can shed any light on it. Thanks much.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Creating a wifi network from my Mac

2017-02-26 Thread Robert Carter
Hi,

You probably will have better luck strengthening the wifi signal. Mesh networks
are very popular for this purpose. That said, if you look at the wifi options
in the wifi extras menu, you should have an option that says create network.
This will allow your Mac to act as a hotspot.

Yay! I had this problem a while back, and I fixed it, but I couldn't remember

it wasn't quite what Ithought. I fixed it the same way you did, by the way. I
just didn't rememmber exactly what I did. Soorry for all the confusion from me.
I'm glad things are working now!

Re: Are there any Mac lists for the blind for the Mac

2017-02-26 Thread matthew dyer
Hi,

Macvisionaries is a good list. It is on google group[s. Don’t have the
address off hand but if you search google groups you should find it.

Re: Creating a wifi network from my Mac

2017-02-26 Thread terrie arnold
Need a Wi-Fi booster that's why it's not reaching your phone because Wi-Fi
doesn't travel very far usually the ones in your house so you can buy
lightbulbs online with a Wi-Fi booster on them for like 40 bucks or there's
other things as well so I'll look on Amazon for our for a Wi-Fi booster because
they go into your lightbulb socket have a lamp or whatever you just leave it on
and it helps your Wi-Fi signal

My thoughts for today
