Hi All, I have had a glass screen protector on my SE since before I left
the store.

Does anyone have or know anything about a glass protector that comes
with pre-formed Braille dots to help you locate areas on your screen?

It seems like I've heard something, but just can't remember what?

I am just wondering if a protector with dots would be worth getting.

Thanks for your help.

Re: no barometer on the iPhone SE

2017-03-06 Thread Vicky Collins
Good to know, thanks. I guess I kind of assumed that, since it
wouldn't count flights of stairs, it wouldn't count steps,
either. I did have a 5S for a short time a while back, but only
for a short time, and I couldn't remember what it did.

RE: reviewing the unlimited data plans using the My AT&T app

2017-03-06 Thread Vicky Collins

Hi Mark and All,

To get the app to show me the list of plans, I did the following:
Logged into the My AT&T app,
The overview of my wireless account came up since I no longer
have home phone or DSL through AT&T,

I double tapped the menu button on the top left of the screen,
I then waited several seconds for the menu to appear,
I then flicked right several times to the my service and plans
button and double tapped it,
I again flicked to the right several times to the change plan
link and double tapped it,
I then flicked right several times to the see all plans link and
double tapped on it.

Hello Vicky and good for you for being able to make heads or
tails of the choices provided to you from within the app.

Yesterday, a sighted friend and I, both having A T & T Wireless
plans, decided to explore the app to see what choices we were
offered. To put it quite simply, we were not able to get the app
to show as much as you.

The difference in the price plans is based on the number of lines
selected.

Regardless of what the app displays, I always suggest that one
select a new plan through customer service, either in person at a
store or via the toll free customer service line.

I logged into the My AT&T app to review the new unlimited data
plans, but I was kind of confused with how they were showing up
in the app. First, it shows all the shared plans, gradually
going up in price as one chooses a plan with more shared data.
And, I think I understand those plans. Then, it shows the AT&T
unlimited choice plan for $65 per month, and then the AT&T
unlimited plus plan for $95 per month, with the plus plan of
course costing more than the choice one, I guess due to the
addition of the hotspot feature. But, then, it shows the AT&T
unlimited choice for $105 per month, and the AT&T unlimited plus
for $135 per month, and I think it is those last two I'm not
understanding. Now, if the increase was $35 a month each for
those last two, then I guess I would figure it to be for the
DirectTv or DirectTv now or something, but I'm just not sure in
this case. Or, now that I look at things more, perhaps they're
suggesting I get a second device on the AT&T Next plan with those
last two, but I'm just not sure. Now, since I was logged in, the
app did suggest a particular plan for me, the $135 one, but I'm
thinking it would still show anyone who logged in all of the
plans available.

Are you just not getting calls to ring? What do you see in your Recent call
log? Check that Do not Disturb is off and the mute switch is not flipped

the calls at all you might want to reboot your phone, if that doesn't help turn
off the phone again, remove the SIM, re-insert it and turn the phone back on.

RE: Native maps question?

Hello Malcolm,

The very unsatisfying answer to your question is that you cannot manually
remove them. It's Apple's way of supposedly making your life easier.

More often than not, they are good at this sort of thing but, for those of us
who like things a certain way, it can, indeed, be a bit frustrating.

RE: siri after selling or giving away phone

2017-03-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you reset a phone completely I doubt the My Info section remains, after all,
if there are no contacts on the phone then there can't be anything in this. I
assume that maybe SIRI associates the phone by some means, maybe it is best to
turn SIRI off before signing out of iCloud and doing a reset.

I suspect one should delete the "my info" section in the Siri settings.
I believe that is where Siri gets your name.
One would have thought by deleting the content, that would be deleted.
That is pure guesswork on my part.

Re: no barometer on the iPhone SE

2017-03-06 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

If there's no barometer, my guess is that like the iPHone 5s, the Health app
will count steps, but not flights climbed. I have no idea about the effect on
weather apps.

Best,
Anna

reviewing the unlimited data plans using the My AT&T app

2017-03-06 Thread Vicky Collins
Now, since I was logged in, the
app did suggest a particular plan for me, the $135 one, but I'm
thinking it would still show anyone who logged in all of the
plans available.

siri after selling or giving away phone

2017-03-06 Thread Vicky Collins
I've twice given away, or maybe sold for a nominal amount, one of
my iPhones to a family member. And, before giving them the
phone, I would sign out of iCloud and erase all content and
settings, thus allowing them to set up the phone as a new device
with their own Apple ID. Yet, for some reason, when each person
tried to use Siri, although Siri could be used without a problem,
Siri would refer to them by my name and not by their own. They
were able to go into the Siri settings to fix this, but I'm still
surprised this happened in the first place. True, I didn't turn
off Siri before giving the phones away, but neither was I advised
to do so per Apple's instructions when selling or giving away an
iPhone.

Keith, I believe it was under games in Applevis on about the fifth page of
games that there was a bridge game. I will check for you and try to send the
link. However, I am not very good at this kind of thing so it might be faster
for you to look. Sorry. I should figure out how to send a link with IOS.
Anybody want to teach me? I am listening. In the meamtime I can at least find
the name of the app. [smiley)

How well does the Disney Anywhere app work?

2017-03-06 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

How well does the Disney Anywhere app work for use in movie theatres? Am I
correct in understanding one must set up an account in order to download the A
D content before going to the theatre?

Thanks in advance, Keith

Re: voiceover and text files

I think VoiceOver interprets each hard return as a paragraph.

I don't know if that is useful information, or if it is for sure correct.

RE: filebrowser was: Re: Dropbox issue seems to be fixed

2017-03-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can link it to your Dropbox account and instead of the Dropbox app you can
then see and browse/open all your files from the FileBrowser app.
In addition to support for all the major cloud storage services you can also
connect to any local NAS drives you may have (network attached storage) or
computers as long as they are on the same WiFi network.
I haven't tried to connect yet when I'm not connected to the same WiFi, but I
think it si somehow also possible.

Hi Alan,

I figured out the user name and password for my NAS drive, but still have not
figure out how to access my Windows 10 laptop. I tried my Microsoft Id and

doesn't work which would make sense because it would be pretty poor security if
it did.
I also wonder what the difference is between the two versions of FileBrowser, I

account from my Office 365 Small Business subscription, but the "professional"
version of the app which did allow me to set that up also has the option to set
up Dropbox and the NAS and so on, almost seems like you do need the
professional version of the app for OneDrive for Business but maybe it can also
do all the rest.
Too bad they didn't at least give them different accessibility labels so
Voiceover would read one as "FileBrowser" and the other as "FileBrowser Pro" or
"FileBrowser Business". Have to send them an email and suggest it since
visually my wife says both say FileBrowser, but the business/professional one
is sort of an orange colour and the regular one is blue in colour.

Sieghard

Hi Sieghard,

When I added the wi-fi network on my local computer using FileBrowser, I
ignored those user name and password prompts since I don't have any set on my
computer and FileBrowser accessed the files just fine.

I purchased FileBrowser and when I open it it does see my Windows 10 laptop and
my external Dlink network attached drive. It says touch to connect and when I
tap on either one it asks me for a user name and password. I tried putting in
my Windows Id which I use to login to my Windows 10 laptop, I have it set to
use a PIN rather than the password, but this does not work. As for my network
attached drive I don't even know what the user name and password would be, it
does not ask for one if I access it via Windows Explorer, it just shows up as a
drive and opens up as any other local hard drive.

Hi all, I would like to thank the person who put up the heads up about File
Browser, it works fantastically. I can not only access my dropbox files and
open them in other apps, but I can see all of the external hard drives on my
network, and play those files as well. I suspect I could even import them in
to other apps, though I haven't tried that yet! This is going to be extremely
useful for me as I have a group on whatsapp, called Beatle Talk. Many of the
groups that were on Roger are moving to whatsapp, and I am really starting to
like this app. I am able to upload
MP3 files to my group, and the members can hear good high quality sound.
If anyone is interested in joining my Beatle Talk group, let me know and I will
add you.

Have a good one:
John

2017-03-06 Thread Richard Turner

Sorry you missed all the follow-up messages about this. Version 36.2 did not
get fixed.
They are supposed to be coming out with version 38.2 this week which should be
fixed.
Otherwise, if you had an older copy in your iTunes, you could install that one,
or you could buy the app, File Browser, that several people have recommended.
But, if you can wait, we hope DropBox will come out with a fixed version this
week.
HTH,
Richard

Anouk,

Thanks for the reminder tip about the FileBrowser app. I second Anouk's
recommendation. Not only will FileBrowser let you link to your Dropbox
account and have access to those files but it also lets you access the files
on your local computer. With its built-in media player, you can access all
the music stored in your iTunes library on your computer and not have to
worry about filling up your device with that music. If you decide to use
FileBrowser to attach your local computer file system, I'd caution you to
put a password on the app in order to protect your data from obtrusive
access. As Anouk stated, FileBrowser is exceedingly accessible with
Voiceover.

Hi everyone, A friend tipped me about the app filebrowser (not free but easy
to use and fully vo compatible). IU use that now to get access to my dropbox
files and for me it fixes the problem and is a nice alternative so i though
I would share it because it might help some other people out as well.

Have a nice weekend,
