How do you use Widgets within Notifications?

2017-03-16 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I haven't really tapped in to the Widgets offered within Notifications. I have
several chosen, such as Up Next, Weather, News, and Batteries.

I'm curious how others have chosen to set up and use Wedgets within
Notifications. I'm sure there is a great deal of variety among viphone members,
and I'm curious to learn ways to more effectively use Widgets to harness
efficiencies and power they may offer.

So, if any on this list care to describe how they use Widgets, I would be most
appreciative for any information shared.

Thanks in advance, Keith

Why not just subscribe to iTunes Match for 24.99 a year? It allows up to
100 thousand songs, and you can access it from any of your devices, plus,
any play lists you create will show up on all your devices, best part, it’s
not on your device, you just stream it unless you down load a play list or
album for playing without a internet connection. JMO

Thanks for the Podcast, I am actually somewhat impressed by this and have
decided to buy the application in support of the developer, let's hope
they continue to support and maybe improve this.
Just as Tom who did the Podcast I have not yet gotten the WiFi
sync/transfer to work, it may take a sighted person since you have to
first connect the iPhone and click on a "gear icon" which does not seem to
be accessible. This is sort of a settings area where you first have to
enable the wireless connection. It does state in the FAQ that this feature
is still in beta, but then again I never found iTunes WiFi Sync to work
very reliably or, if it worked, to be very fast.

I have checked for coupon codes and while there maybe better ones out
there, I did find one, "WELOVE7LABS" which when you enter it during
checkout (without the quotation symbols of course) will give you 5% off,
it is only $2, but then again $2 is better than $0.

Best regards,

Considering how many people dislike iTunes I am surprised this
application has not been praised as the reinvention of the wheel with
Podcasts about it and so on. Before I plunk down $40 (I assume that is
US Dollars) or $60 which is the offer if you want free lifetime
upgrades I'd really like to hear a Podcast done about it. I have tried
too many of these all with limitations or accessibility issues.

What's everyone's thoughts about subscribing to one year of the new Drop
Box? With 1TB of storage for $99.00 a year?

I have a little less than 500 Gigs of music I store on my desktop external
hard drive. I'd love to be able to access this music through my IPhone.
If I went with WALT R, I'd have to keep rotating songs out of my IPhone, and
back to my hard drive, and vice versa. So I'm thinking of plunking down a c
note a year and be done with my 16 gig IPhone's storage problems.

What do you all think? Question; I've never really went that far into using
my old Drop Box, which I had accumulated a total of 100 gigs of storage, so
I'm not that familiar with using it.

Would I be easily able to jump into Drop Box, then my Rock Genre, then say
the Van Halen folder, and finally play the whole Van Halen I album?
I couldn't figure out, although I really didn't spend a lot of time playing
with it, how to play a whole album in Drop Box. I'd have to play it song by
song.

Again, what do you all think?

Thanks for the Podcast, I am actually somewhat impressed by this and have
decided to buy the application in support of the developer, let's hope they
continue to support and maybe improve this.
Just as Tom who did the Podcast I have not yet gotten the WiFi sync/transfer
to work, it may take a sighted person since you have to first connect the
iPhone and click on a "gear icon" which does not seem to be accessible. This
is sort of a settings area where you first have to enable the wireless
connection. It does state in the FAQ that this feature is still in beta, but
then again I never found iTunes WiFi Sync to work very reliably or, if it
worked, to be very fast.

I have checked for coupon codes and while there maybe better ones out there,
I did find one, "WELOVE7LABS" which when you enter it during checkout
(without the quotation symbols of course) will give you 5% off, it is only
$2, but then again $2 is better than $0.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Considering how many people dislike iTunes I am surprised this application
has not been praised as the reinvention of the wheel with Podcasts about it
and so on. Before I plunk down $40 (I assume that is US Dollars) or $60
which is the offer if you want free lifetime upgrades I'd really like to
hear a Podcast done about it. I have tried too many of these all with
limitations or accessibility issues.

navigate images. Mine is set to "with descriptions. Other choices are none or

If not, you can put it back to whatever you have it set to now.

Hi Jim,
About your second question first, have you tried a three finger swipe up to
scroll the list? I know you said left or right didn't work, but how about up?

As for your second question, it could be that there isn't any real text on that
page. It might be graphics, images with text, in which case of course VoiceOver
isn't going to read it. How do you have VoiceOver set to respond to graphics?
If voiceover is set to read only images that have alt text, that could be the
problem. So you could try sending it to read all images, and then see if
something shows up which, well garbled and messy, because it will be the file
name, might give you a hint. In that case, the solution is for the app
developers to use real text instead of graphics.

I tried sending this last night, but I don’t believe it got sent, so I’ll try
again. I’ll make it brief, but it’s something I’ve not encountered before on
either the iPhone or iPad.

I recently downloaded an app from the Univision network called Univision Now.
It’s a Spanish language TV app which not only allows you to watch the network
live and local but also allows one to watch shows and series on demand.

You can use the app in a couple of different ways. You can either sign up for
an account and pay either monthly or yearly, or you can use your TV provider as
a portal. Mine is Dish, so it makes sense for me to sign into the app using my
Dish information.

When I tried going to the area which asks me to select a TV provider, I tapped
on it figuring I’d get a list of choices. A totally blind VoiceOver user would
swear that there is nothing like that; although, I did learn that visually, the
list of choices does appear and that one can make such a choice if VoiceOver
isn’t on.

This is the first time I see that VoiceOver doesn’t read everything that’s on
the screen, which is very misleading.

I had a friend of mine, who is sighted, help log me in on my iPad and iPhone.
However, a few days later, while watching a show, the app stopped again and
asked me to sign back in. Of course, I went back to where the choice should be
and still couldn’t have VoiceOver read the choice for the Dish button.

This is going to get old fast, because I don’t want to have to rely on a
sighted person to always log me in. What’s even worse is that when I choose
the Dish Network button, my log-on information is already there, so this just
acts as a verification.

So, my questions are these.

What might be going on with VoiceOver not reading these particular choices?

Is there a gesture or keyboard command I can use or haven’t been using that can
expand the screen or read more information?

In fact, one more little issue is this. When I tap on a series that contains
several episodes, only a few of them show up on my iPhone screen before showing
me the bottom tab with other choices. On my iPad, I can find many more or even
all of the episodes of that series. Again, is there a way to expand a list on
a screen? I know it’s not on different pages, so a three finger swipe to the
left won’t work.

Sorry for being so elaborate, but I wanted to make sure and explain what was
going on.

I have written to Univision to let them know about the only inaccessible part
of the App I’ve seen so far. Of course, this is a new issue for them, so
they’re unsure how to proceed. I gave them suggestions.

But, if this is something I’m doing, then I don’t want to place undue blame on
the app developer.

Thanks much.

Jim

I just read about it in the app store and it said it was compatible with mini

Thank you to everyone who gave me info for my daughter I have shared it with
her and she thanks you also.

I did notice that the mini IPad II is not compatible with the KNFB Reader.
Have those of you who have used it found this to be true?

Hi Vicki. I would have to recommend KNFB Reader. That app is normally
around $100 but well worth it. I use it every day to read mail. It even can
give field of view reports to help you capture the whole page. I haven't
regrettd that purchase for a moment and neither have any friends I've
recommended the app to.

Does anyone know of an app which will allow him to do this and if so,
what the cost would be?

You may have to look on page 2 to find News or other native apps. You
can either double tap the page picker toward the bottom of the screen,

Re: Issue with VoiceOver not reading everything

2017-03-16 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Jim,
About your second question first, have you tried a three finger swipe up to
scroll the list? I know you said left or right didn't work, but how about up?
As for your second question, it could be that there isn't any real text on that
page. It might be graphics, images with text, in which case of course VoiceOver
isn't going to read it. How do you have VoiceOver set to respond to graphics?
If voiceover is set to read only images that have alt text, that could be the
problem. So you could try sending it to read all images, and then see if
something shows up which, well garbled and messy, because it will be the file
name, might give you a hint. In that case, the solution is for the app
developers to use real text instead of graphics.

The Native iOS News App: It's Right There Waiting for You

2017-03-16 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

Recently, in addition to my third-party news apps, I have started using the
native iOS app on my iPhone.

The app has really come a long way in terms of being VoiceOver accessible.
With the built-in notifications settings for many of its news channels, and
given how easily one can (1) save articles for later viewing and (2) easily
share articles to popular social media outlets, I am finding it remarkably
convenient and fun to use.

So, give it a try if you have not done so.

The native iOS news app, it's right there waiting for you.

Mark

2017-03-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If somebody really doesn't like iTunes this may not be the best solution since
you still have to make sure your music collection is in iTunes and if you have
a large CD collection which still needs to be ripped to M4A or MP3 it is even
more work although of course Waltr2 won't do you any good if you don't already
have your music collection on the computer.

Why not just subscribe to iTunes Match for 24.99 a year? It allows up to 100
thousand songs, and you can access it from any of your devices, plus, any play
lists you create will show up on all your devices, best part, it’s not on your

RE: Putting music on an iPhone

2017-03-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mike,

Could you explain what in particular you find too difficult with iTunes? F6 and
tab are your friends in that application and it's not that hard once you
understand how it works. I am now on Jaws 18 so I don't know how it works with
16, but iTunes did something recently which suddenly made certain features
which weren't accessible before accessible again. I know this was independent
from any Jaws releases so I would guess that these changes work equally well
with Jaws 16, 17 and 18.
But Waltr2 does seem to do what it promises with relatively little fuss, but
you will have to put down 40 bucks, if it's worth it for you I would say go
for it. When you download Waltr2 and run it for the first time you can obtain a
license key which make sth eapp fully functional for 24 hours so it's easy to
try it first and then if you like it you can register which takes you online,
you buy the key for $39.95 ($37.95 if you use WELOVE7LABS as a promo code) and
then you simply copy the new license key, paste it in the appropriate field in
Waltr2 and it's unlocked and authorized for good.

Sieghard

Why not just subscribe to iTunes Match for 24.99 a year? It allows up to 100
thousand songs, and you can access it from any of your devices, plus, any play
lists you create will show up on all your devices, best part, it’s not on your
device, you just stream it unless you down load a play list or album for
playing without a internet connection. JMO

Issue with VoiceOver not reading everything

2017-03-16 Thread Jim Portillo
Good morning everyone.

I tried sending this last night, but I don't believe it got sent, so I'll
try again. I'll make it brief, but it's something I've not encountered
before on either the iPhone or iPad.

I recently downloaded an app from the Univision network called Univision
Now. It's a Spanish language TV app which not only allows you to watch the
network live and local but also allows one to watch shows and series on
demand.

You can use the app in a couple of different ways. You can either sign up
for an account and pay either monthly or yearly, or you can use your TV
provider as a portal. Mine is Dish, so it makes sense for me to sign into
the app using my Dish information.

When I tried going to the area which asks me to select a TV provider, I
tapped on it figuring I'd get a list of choices. A totally blind VoiceOver
user would swear that there is nothing like that; although, I did learn that
visually, the list of choices does appear and that one can make such a
choice if VoiceOver isn't on.

This is the first time I see that VoiceOver doesn't read everything that's
on the screen, which is very misleading.

I had a friend of mine, who is sighted, help log me in on my iPad and
iPhone. However, a few days later, while watching a show, the app stopped
again and asked me to sign back in. Of course, I went back to where the
choice should be and still couldn't have VoiceOver read the choice for the
Dish button.

This is going to get old fast, because I don't want to have to rely on a
sighted person to always log me in. What's even worse is that when I choose
the Dish Network button, my log-on information is already there, so this
just acts as a verification.

So, my questions are these.

What might be going on with VoiceOver not reading these particular choices?

Is there a gesture or keyboard command I can use or haven't been using that
can expand the screen or read more information?

In fact, one more little issue is this. When I tap on a series that
contains several episodes, only a few of them show up on my iPhone screen
before showing me the bottom tab with other choices. On my iPad, I can find
many more or even all of the episodes of that series. Again, is there a way
to expand a list on a screen? I know it's not on different pages, so a
three finger swipe to the left won't work.

Sorry for being so elaborate, but I wanted to make sure and explain what was
going on.

I have written to Univision to let them know about the only inaccessible
part of the App I've seen so far. Of course, this is a new issue for them,
so they're unsure how to proceed. I gave them suggestions.

But, if this is something I'm doing, then I don't want to place undue blame
on the app developer.

Thanks much.

Jim

I can reproduce this behavior on 10.2.1. I had never tried this before, but it
indeed doesn't seem to work correctly when the doc is full.

Which version of iOS are you using? Also, are both your Mail and Messages apps

I was going to explain how you do this, but noticed a bug which I had never
noticed before. Maybe some others can see if they can replicate this because I
am using 10.3 Beta 6 so it is always possible that this is a new bug which does
not exist in 10.2.1.
Anyhow, normally you would flick down on say the Mail app so Voiceover says
"Arranging Apps". Then you double tap and, since "Move Mail" is now the
default, you can simply double tap again to activate this.
All of this goes as it should, after the second double tap Voiceover says
"Choose a destination for Mail".
My Mail app is second from the left in the dock, just to the right of the Phone
app. My Messages app is third, so just to the right of the Mail app.
If I now flick right to the Messages app or touch it to put focus on it,
Voiceover says "Messages, editing", but if I now flick down where it should
give me the option to put Mail before Messages or after Messages I am not
getting any of this, the only two options are "Activate" or "Cancel Move".
If instead I touch any app on the home screen above and flick down I get all
the options so it appears that as soon as you just want to move an app from one
position in the dock to another position this method of moving doesn't work and
you have to double tap and hold, then drag left or right.
Furthermore, what I am describing above is only the case if the dock is full
with 4 apps in the dock. If I move an app out of the dock to the home screen
and then try the same action, i.e. trying to move Mail and then touch Messages,
I can now flick down and select to place mail before Messages (which is where
it already is) or I can place it after Messages. I can also move my Audible app
which I have at the bottom right of the dock and which I moved out to the home
screen to test this, back tot he dock using the new method.
Once it is back and the dock is full you once again can't move the position of
the 4 apps in the dock except by using the old method of dragging them.
Having said this, doing a double tap and hold and then dragging an app in the
dock has always been relatively easy since you can't create a folder in the
dock so if I drag Mail to the right and it says "On Messages" I can just let go
and they change places whereas if you do this on the home screen it would
create a folder and you would have to drag Mail a bit to the right of Messages
to it's in the empty space between the two apps.
I think this is probably a bug nobody has noticed, I still think it should be
possible to use the new method with the rotor to rearrange apps in the dock
since you can do so on the home screen and you can do it in the dock as long as
there are only 3 apps in the dock.

Regards,
Sieghard

Thank you to everyone who gave me info for my daughter I have shared it with

I did notice that the mini IPad II is not compatible with the KNFB Reader. Have
those of you who have used it found this to be true?

Hi Vicki. I would have to recommend KNFB Reader. That app is normally around
$100 but well worth it. I use it every day to read mail. It even can give field
of view reports to help you capture the whole page. I haven't regrettd that
purchase for a moment and neither have any friends I've recommended the app to.

I think she is mostly looking for a way that he can read his mail.

Does anyone know of an app which will allow him to do this and if so, what the
cost would be?

Thanks.

Re: Air Pod Question:

2017-03-16 Thread Michael Feir
To answer or hang up calls, tap twice quickly on either AirPod while
they're in your ear. If your AirPod batteries are getting low, you can take
one out of your ear and put it in the case to charge even while on a call.
they charge quickly so as long as you don't let both airpods get too low,
you can continue talking on one while the other charges up and then switch
airpods letting the other charge.

To make calls without taking your phone from your pocket, you'd double-tap
an airpod and use Siri to make a call. If the number is in your contacts,
you could just say the name. If not, you could say the numbers to dial.

Re: Slacker

2017-03-16 Thread Lisa Belville
Hi. I've got slacker version 7.8.1. you can search for podcasts, they have
a limited number, but I don't think their selection is as plentiful as Agogo
or Tune in radio or even the native podcast app. Also there are many
unlabeled buttons in their app and they don't seem too keen on fixing them
with proper labels. I hate to say it, but the android version of this app
is more accessible, at least the version I'm running on an Amazon Fire
Tablet seems more accessible.

Hope this helps.

the beta, but who knows.

Which version of iOS are you using? Also, are both your Mail and Messages apps
in the dock?

Sieghard

RE: Apple's next OS 10.3. Backup your phone

2017-03-16 Thread Mike Ulrich
Thanks Wayne, mine is set to back up all the time, and my last back up was
yesterday. So I'm good whenever 10.3 goes out for public consumption.

Go to Settings, iCloud, and choose the Backup button toward the bottom of the
screen. When this page comes up, the last backup time/date will be displayed at
the bottom of the screen.

Good luck,
Wayne

RE: no longer receiving notifications on iphone 5s latest public beta ios

All I had to do was open the programs and exit out of them now notifications
seem to be arriving ok now. Kind of strange, but at least it is working again.

I just noticed I did not receive any notifications when I downloaded Email.
I went into the notification settings, and for some odd reason, mail was off.
I turned it on, and it now works again.
So, I'm thinking an update may have changed some settings.
But, for me, just resetting them under Settings, Notification did the trick. I
did not have to reset the phone.

Honestly, you should always back up your iPhone before any software update.
This is not at all different from the past. The vast majority of the time,
updates go without a hitch, but never assume.

Hi All,

Apple's iOS 10.3 update could result in you losing all of your data if you do
not perform a back up

By Matthew Dunn

Published March 14, 2017
news.com.au

If you have sentimental attachment to the data on your iPhone, you will want to
perform a backup before upgrading to Apple’s latest iOS update later this
month.

While iOS 10.3 promises to deliver a host of new updates, one component could
devastate users who do not back up data and files to Apple’s cloud before
installing new operating system.

It all has to do with the tech giant introducing a new file system to replace
its 29-year-old predecessor known as HFS+.

Your iOS update will automatically convert to the new Apple File System (APFS),
but if something goes wrong during the process, your old files could disappear
for good because the two file systems are not compatible.

While you will be able to return to the old version of iOS, this will require
you to reformat your drive, which will delete all of your files on your device
— hence the need for the backup.

It might sound risky, but Apple File System promises to be a huge improvement
on the predecessor which the tech giant has been using its introduction in
1998.

The update will be better suited to modern computing demands, allowing for
stronger encryption, more accurate time stamps and optimisation for solid state
storage.

The new operating system is also expected to include a Find My AirPods feature,
hidden keyboards for iPads and minor App Store improvements.

APFS is also tipped to be rolled out across its computers, smartwatches and
Apple TVs.

HOW TO BACK UP WITH ICLOUD

1. Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.

2. Tap Settings, then scroll down and tap iCloud.

3. Scroll down, tap Backup, and make sure that iCloud Backup is turned on.

4. Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to your Wi-Fi network until the process
completes.

5. Make sure that the backup finished: Tap Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage
Storage, then select your device. The backup should appear in the details
with the time and backup size.

HOW TO BACK UP WITH ITUNES

1. Open iTunes and connect your device to your computer.

2. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod when it appears in iTunes.

3. If you want to save Health and Activity data from your iOS device or Apple
Watch, you need to encrypt your backup: Select the box called Encrypt [device]
backup and create a memorable password. If you don’t need to save your Health
and Activity data, you can make a backup that isn’t encrypted. Just click
Back Up Now.

RE: Putting music on an iPhone

2017-03-16 Thread Mike Ulrich
What's everyone's thoughts about subscribing to one year of the new Drop Box?
With 1TB of storage for $99.00 a year?

I have a little less than 500 Gigs of music I store on my desktop external hard
drive.

Question; I've never really went that far into using my
old Drop Box, which I had accumulated a total of 100 gigs of storage, so I'm
not that familiar with using it.

Would I be easily able to jump into Drop Box, then my Rock Genre, then say the
Van Halen folder, and finally play the whole Van Halen I album?
I couldn't figure out, although I really didn't spend a lot of time playing
with it, how to play a whole album in Drop Box. I'd have to play it song by
song.

Again, what do you all think?

Thanks for the Podcast, I am actually somewhat impressed by this and have
decided to buy the application in support of the developer, let's hope they
continue to support and maybe improve this.
Just as Tom who did the Podcast I have not yet gotten the WiFi sync/transfer to
work, it may take a sighted person since you have to first connect the iPhone
and click on a "gear icon" which does not seem to be accessible. This is sort
of a settings area where you first have to enable the wireless connection. It
does state in the FAQ that this feature is still in beta, but then again I
never found iTunes WiFi Sync to work very reliably or, if it worked, to be very
fast.

I have checked for coupon codes and while there maybe better ones out there, I
did find one, "WELOVE7LABS" which when you enter it during checkout (without
the quotation symbols of course) will give you 5% off, it is only $2, but then
again $2 is better than $0.

Hi all,
Can somebody tell me the easiest way to put music on an iPhone without using
iTunes? I have not fed iTunes app for this phone as of yet and would really
rather not if it all possible. I would like to music to show up in the music
folder if Kathy bowl like it would if you use iTunes. Any help.

I thought Logic was the app that most used for audio producing on the Mac.

Re: seeking app or program

2017-03-16 Thread Vicki
Thank you to everyone who gave me info for my daughter I have shared it with
her and she thanks you also.

I did notice that the mini IPad II is not compatible with the KNFB Reader. Have
those of you who have used it found this to be true?

Does anyone know of an app which will allow him to do this and if so, what
the cost would be?

Thanks.

Vicki

RE: Putting music on an iPhone

2017-03-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Sieghard
