Re: Automatic language switching on the Mac

2017-04-11 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Afik,

On the Mac, the VO keys are either Control and Option or the Caps Lock key. So,
pressing VO plus the Command key puts you into the VoiceOver Voice rotor. If
you press either the left or the right arrow key, you will circulate through
the various parameters that you can change, such as Rate or Volume. You should
leave this rotor set to Voice, which will say “Voice” and the name of the voice.
You then press VO-Cmd-Down Arrow to change the voice. The first voice you find
will be the voice you used right before the current voice. So, if you only use
Hebrew and English, VO-Cmd-Down Arrow will toggle between these two languages.
I do this all the time between English and French.

Cheers,

Anne

Spectrum question

2017-04-11 Thread Gordon
So my maximum speed with this At&t Uverse in my area is 45 MBPS. but of
course I usually get only around 17. So I'm highly considering Spectrum
since they're offering me a good deal for the first 12 months with 100
megs down. I know there has been some discussion out here about the app,
but I'm wondering if it's usable at all for managing the DVR. Right now
with Uverse I can see what's on the dvr and can use the app to know
where the program I want to watch is. then I can head over there with
the remote. And how about the website for managing the DVR. Is that
accessible? The only reason I went to Uverse was because Verizon sold
their FIOS properties to Frontier Communications here in Texas. And that
wasn't accessible at all. So Spectrum is my only other option at the
moment for where I live. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Automatic language switching on the Mac

2017-04-11 Thread Paul Parravano
Thank you Anne for this really helpful hint. I switch between english and
Italian and have one other question. Since I read more slowly in Italian than
in english, is there any way to set the Italian chosen voice to a slower rate?
Now I need to switch both the voice and the rate. Would love to eliminate the
rate change step.

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Best,

Paul

Hello,

I don't know if you can search multiple zipcodes but can search by county
and state. I did such a search with the filters turned off and bot 798 hits
in my county. If your filters are narrow enough, the results might be
managable.

Thanks, just tried this app out and so far it’s great! No accessibility
issues I’m finding. Appreciate the suggestion.

Hi group, what are your iOS recommendations for real estate and
rentals?

I just gave Zillo a try and it’s doable, but kind of an accessibility
pain.

Any better apps out there you like?

Thanks,

Re: Automatic language switching on the Mac

2017-04-11 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Paul,

It’s probably quicker just to use the voice rotor to get to Rate rather than
using the other suggestion I have, which is to create an Italian activity where
you could set the voice and rate. However, if you use Braille, creating an
activity might be worthwhile as you could include Italian Braille in the
settings.

Cheers,

Anne

Grazie Anne. I understand the simpler approach to use the rotor to make this
change. Could you give me the steps to create the Italian activity? I have not
used activities before so am not familiar with how they are established. If
this is too involved for this email, I will figure it out. Thanks very much for
the suggestions.

list recorder 2.4.4 with ios 10 and installation

2017-04-11 Thread William Windels
Hello,
I have a new iphone and I want to re-install list recorder.
When I go to the app store, I see a lite versione for free and another download
for the paid full version.
When I bought this app some years ago, I think it was a in app purchase to
update the lite version to the full version.
So, the full version should be for free in my case , is this right?

Also, Apple asks to have a restore function so that I can download what I get
before.
This isn’t available here I think.

and , this app, version 2.4.4 isn’t updated since 2013 and isn’t perhaps
optimised for ios10.

Is there a renewed version of this app somewhere or is there a alternative?

Kind regards,
William Windels

RE: Encrypted Back Ups

2017-04-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, and in a way that is dangerous because sometimes somebody may turn this on
and enter a password, then they forget all about it and eventually if they need
to restore they can’t remember the password.
Make sure if you check that checkbox for doing encrypted backups you know the
password, otherwise it’s better to turn it off, delete any backups that are
there, then turn it back on at which point it will ask for a password and ask
for you to type it a second time. Now it’s once again turned on so make sure
you remember the password.

If I remember correctly, once you set up a password for encrypted backups,
Apple always uses that password unless you change it, so it doesn't ask for a

they were never asked to enter one.
We are all using the latest IOS along with the latest iTunes, so if anyone can
point us in the right direction as to what we are doing wrong, or if there is
some new trick that we have missed, the information would be greatly
appreciated.

Hello,

I don't know if you can search multiple zipcodes but can search by county
and state. I did such a search with the filters turned off and bot 798 hits
in my county. If your filters are narrow enough, the results might be
managable.

I just gave Zillo a try and it’s doable, but kind of an accessibility

need voice recording app with easy editing feature

2017-04-11 Thread Debby
Hi All,

Of course, I haven't really been paying attention to the subject, but now I
have a project for which I need to record some things on my iPhone. Because
I am not counting on being perfect, I need to be able to easily edit files.
Can this be done in the native voice memos app? I have been trying to test
edit a file in the native app without much success. If it can be done could
someone give me instructions or point me to a guide, please? I have been
searching online for precise steps with voiceover without a whole lot of
success.

If it would be better to use something else, please suggest. It doesn't have
to be free. I do not have a dropbox account. I would like to be able to have
my final output in mp3.

Thanks for any help!

Re: list recorder 2.4.4 with ios 10 and installation

2017-04-11 Thread Richard Turner

First, open the app store, then double tap on updates.
Then, double tap on purchased.
Select all, and use the search field to find List recorder.
you should be able to download it and then perhaps restore your purchase from
within the app.
But, no it has not been updated and likely will not unless someone else takes
it over, which the original developer would be willing to do. I do not know for
what price.
I do not think there is an equivalent app anywhere if you want the ability to
write notes directly associated with a recording.

Richard

Audiomemos might be an app to look into via

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/audio-memos-the-voice-recorder/id338550388?mt=8

It has several addons one can buy, among them is the Scrub and insert
file, two of which i'm wanting to buy, but am kind of hessitant to do so
until I get a chance to hear an audiodemo of how they work with Voiceover.

Good luck in your search!

Tune in radio questions

2017-04-11 Thread Mary Otten
It has been a while since I used tuning radio seriously, but I am looking at it
again, even looking at the premium subscription. But I'm having a hard time
finding out what I get on premium that I don't get on the regular service. What
is clear is that you get major-league baseball, pro football, and pro
basketball. And there are a bunch of audiobooks. And there are commercial free
music stations, although I don't think the bit rate of playback is all that
high. I also thought there was other premium audio content, but I just
successfully played one of the things that I thought was only on premium using
my regular tuning pro. So, does anybody know where you can see an actual list
of everything that is included with the premium subscription? Also just out of
curiosity, if you use android and sign up for premium, you can get a year
subscription for $99. That option does not seem to be available through the
iTunes Store. Am I just missing it? Unfortunately, you can't sign up on one
platform and get that premium everywhere. That seems a shame, but I guess it
is because the sign-up in both cases goes through the particular play or App
Store of the OS if you could sign up through tune in itself, I would guess you
can have your stuff on any platform, rather like what happens with Audible. Too
bad Julian is it doing that. That might also be why you can't get any premium
stuff using Alexa.

Yu could scope it out then.
On their web site: tunein.com they list NFL, MLB, Commercial free radio, over

again, even looking at the premium subscription.
Mary

Re: Tune in radio questions

2017-04-11 Thread Mary Otten
Hi richard,
Yes, I know I can do the free trial. That's one of the differences between the
Google and Apple version, with Google you can get a 30 day free trial if you
then sign up for an entire year. And I forgot about the language learning,
rapid Arabic etc. In that same place where ever it was, where I saw the stuff
about the language learning books etc., there was also a heading under which
were listed several Podcasts and other talk showsprogressive, which I was
particularly interested in, since that stuff seems rather hard to come by on
regular radio. But now I'm wondering if those podcasts etc. are all really
available on the non-premium subscription as you say, I can sign up for seven
days and check it out I suppose.

Hey Guys,
I’m updating my iPad Mini 4 now from iOS 10.2.1 to 10.3. I’m doing it through
iTunes, and it’s telling me that it is downloading 2.35 gigabytes! Can this be
right for a (what I thought) was not a major update! Does it download the whole
OS every time an update comes out?
Thanks for any info.

Re: Tune in radio questions

2017-04-11 Thread Terje Strømberg
Also, tune in radio is integrated in Sonos. Don’t think it is premium, but i
pay for jazzradio.com who has an Sonos app kind off, to use within Sonos, then
Sonos uses Tune in radio to play this jazzradio.com subscription.

1. i pay for jazzradio.com The best jazz radio station out there.
2. Uses Sonos app to listen.
3. Sonos uses Tune In radios «mine radiostations» to serve me the jazz music.

Just another choice. Not the best for everyone, but a choice to get good jazz
music.

Take care

Is the iOS LibriVox and/or LibriVox Pro app still VoiceOver accessible?

For those who are not familiar with the tool, LibriVox and LibriVox Pro is a

countless amount of other media, from www.archive.org.

All replies greatly appreciated,

It is a large update, partly because 10.3 completely changes the file system.
It went pretty smoothly over Wifi on the three devices I updated.
I started to do it through iTunes and it was going to take several hours…

Re: Tune in radio questions

Jazz radio.com is related to radio tunes, not tune in radio. I was a subscriber
for several years to radio tunes and thus also to jazz radio. But I drop that
subscription when it was up for renewal earlier this year.

RE: Massive Update?

2017-04-11 Thread Alan Lemly
Evan,

iOS 10.3 was a major update implementing a new file system and requiring an
upgrade to iTunes 12.6..0.1 for compatibility. I don't think the whole OS is
downloaded for each upgrade. For example, iOS 10.3.1 which came out about a
week after 10.3 was a much smaller download.

Subject: Massive Update?

Evan
