How to trade in your iPhone 8 for an iPhone X - CNET

How to trade in your iPhone 8 for an iPhone X - CNET
Your iPhone 8 ($849.00 at Apple) is the latest and greatest iPhone right
now, but it won't be shortly when the iPhone X ($49.91 at Apple) is
released. Are feelings of buyer's remorse starting to creep in? You aren't
alone. iPhone 8 trade-ins are a thing. Here's what you need to know about
swapping out your iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus ($945.00 at Amazon.com) for the
iPhone X.
You'll have to pay it off
If you purchased your iPhone 8 on an installment payment plan, then you will
need to pay off the balance before you can sell it. If you're in the iPhone
Upgrade Program, you can upgrade but will need to do a little legwork.
Read the Terms & Conditions of the Upgrade Program and you'll notice that
the Early Upgrade Option states you can make advance payments to become
eligible six months after enrolling. That means iPhone 8 owners, who are
only a month or so into their upgrade program, would need to wait nearly
another five months before becoming upgrade eligible.
That didn't seem right to me, so I called my local Apple Store and asked a
representative if I could upgrade my iPhone 8 as soon as the iPhone X is
released. The rep informed me that, yes, I could upgrade as soon as the
iPhone X hits, but I would need to call Citizens One (1-888-201-6306) to pay
off my loan. And after paying this sum to bring me up to the equivalent of
12 installment payments, I would be upgrade eligible and could trade in my
suddenly outdated iPhone 8 for the shiny and new iPhone X.
Back up, then erase
Before you box up your iPhone 8 and ship it off, you need to prepare it for
sale by removing your personal information. Here's what to do:
If you have an Apple Watch ($429.00 at Apple), unpair it from your iPhone.
Open the Watch app, tap the My Watch tab, tap your watch, tap the little "i"
button next to it and then tap Unpair Apple Watch.
Perform one last backup of your iPhone to iTunes or iCloud so you have a
recent profile to grab when setting up your new iPhone X.
Sign out of both iCloud and iTunes & App Store. Open Settings, tap your
profile at the top, scroll down to the bottom and tap Sign Out.
Erase your personal information. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase
All Content and Settings.
Gather the accessories
Since you've had the iPhone 8 for only a month or so, it shouldn't be too
difficult to gather all of the accessories that came with it. Here's the
list:
. EarPods with Lightning Connector
. Lightning-to-USB Cable
. Lightning-to-3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter
. USB Power Adapter
 Apple
Sell it -- but not through Apple
Because they are only a little more than a month old, neither the iPhone 8
nor the iPhone 8 Plus are listed on Apple's trade-up site. Without Apple as
a trade-in partner, you will need to look at a third-party trade-in site
such as Decluttr or Swappa (but not the popular Gazelle, which has yet to
add either iPhone 8 model). Or you could, of course, try your luck with eBay
or Craigslist. Hunt around for best deal.
At the time of this writing, Decluttr will pay roughly $415-$430 (depending
on the carrier) for a 64GB iPhone 8, $450-$500 for a 256GB iPhone 8,
$515-$530 for a 64GB iPhone 8 Plus and $600-$630 for a 256GB iPhone 8 Plus.
Get ready for the iPhone X
Before you pull the trigger on an iPhone 8 sale, be sure you have an iPhone
X purchase lined up. Supplies will be severely limited at launch, but there
are ways to increase your odds of getting an iPhone X.

talking about apple tv. the tv app on Iphone seems to be now called

Re: interesting observation with sonos & iPod or is it old news?

Hi,
Ah yes Apple Music like other services can be accessed directly through sonos
and its app. I hope you’re enjoying your system (smile).

Hello Robin
Sorry, I forgot to mention that was indeed the clasical music station of apple
music and not music on my iPod, so you are quite correct but I thought the
iDevice must be on to channel the music.

Hi,
You don’t specify what sort of music you started playing. I.E. music resident
on your iPod or music from a stream on the internet. If the latter your iPod is
merely working like a remote telling the Sonos where to go to stream the
content. As such it needn’t remain powered up for the music to continue. It is
not working like a bluetooth device whereby the iPod is sending the sound to
it. I hope that clarifies; and if I’ve misunderstood perhaps someone else will
take a shot at it.

Hello list
I started apple music on my sonos play3 from my iPod and then I switched the
iPod off and to my surprise the music keeps on playing. The advantage is that I
do then not consume iPod battery life. I tried this from my pc with the same
result. I did not read this in the sonos manual, so I wonder if it is a known
fact?

first of all, it’s not apples responsibility, when it comes to updating apps,
it is up to the cab company, or the app developer.

If this one click cab, or whatever they are called, wish to keep in business,
then it is their problem, and they should sort it out.

Have you considered, contacting the app developer, or the cab company?

  Dave.

Kevin,

Interesting you say that, what display or displays have you tested with?

Here, I tested just last night with my BI 40,  and at least with me, I'm
finding that the lag when inputting has been resolved.

This is going into beta software, so if you wish feel free to reach off

RE: re this one click cab issue

2017-10-29 Thread Richard Turner
Simon,
Have you tried asking Apple if there is a way to find out who developed the app?
My guess is, they have abandoned the app because they didn’t want to go through
the upgrade process, but no one will know until they are asked.
I have no idea if Apple has records of past developers or not.
As this is clearly a very important app to you, it may be worth some extra
detective work.

Best of luck,
Richard

first of all, it’s not apples responsibility, when it comes to updating apps,
it is up to the cab company, or the app developer.

If this one click cab, or whatever they are called, wish to keep in business,
then it is their problem, and they should sort it out.

Have you considered, contacting the app developer, or the cab company?

first of all, it’s not apples responsibility, when it comes to updating apps,
it is up to the cab company, or the app developer.

If this one click cab, or whatever they are called, wish to keep in business,
then it is their problem, and they should sort it out.

Have you considered, contacting the app developer, or the cab company?

personally, I rather think it very much depends on how useful or not the
specific app/apps that no longer work were.
for example, something like a game, radio, or tv app that no longer worked,
but was purely for entertainment, would probably not bee too much of a loss.
an app that one heavily relies on however, especially for independence and/or
mobility, such as one click cab in my case, is a very big loss and seriously
major inconvenience now that it no longer works.

That is probably because the developers of these apps did not bother to
update them any more to comply with Apple’S 64 Bit requirement. Yes, Apple
requires this, but it’s going with the time and you can’t expect some app that
hasn’t been updated in years because the developer abandoned it to work
forever.

Re: for all T-mobile users

2017-10-29 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello Andy, and others,

How do you get this App to work for you?

I want to review my last bill, and try to look at the details of it. But
I can't figure out for the life of me, how to do this.

My bill is on auto-pay, as it makes it a little cheaper.

But this App just seems odd to me. I can get in the menu, and I can make
some choices. But I can't seem to do what I'd like to do.

Thank you,

Terri

Hello everyone,

For all of you here who use T-Mobile, have you ever had problems using
the T-mobile app?

It doesn't seem too accessible.

Also, if you go to their my T-Mobile website with a computer, do you
have any issues entering your ID, and password?

Every time I go to enter my password, my caps lock key gets turned on.
I've never seen this before.

Any help would be much appreciated. I need to view details of my bill.

Thank you,

You can simply add each one to the to field or CC field.
If you are wanting to create a group so you don’t have to do that every time
you will need a third party app. I use A2Z Contacts. Note, the 2 is the digit

Re: Facebook messenger light?

2017-10-29 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Jennifer,
I don't think that's the one. Maybe it's not available for iOS. The android
version apparently does not haveunlabeled buttons, at least from what I've
heard, and it's not cluttered. So I guess it's time to keep looking. I don't
really see any major advantage to this one over the messy regular Facebook
messenger. Fortunately, I don't have to use it very often. But when I do, I
find it rather a pain.

Re: Low Volume

2017-10-29 Thread terrie arnold
Well have your fin call the Apple help desk, or hot call Apple itself and they
can help her walk through to change the volume settings and you can also set,
the volume on the rotator on the front of the screen but there are several
settings for volume one for ringer one for talking on the phone so there are
several ways to set volume unfortunately on the iPhone but have her call Apple
and they’re wonderful people they work very well with blind people and explain
things they can even go, on the phone and correct the settings through her
phone so that’s what I would suggest to you have a great day

Re: interesting observation with sonos & iPod or is it old news?

2017-10-29 Thread Marie
This is the normal behavior for the Sonos app. Once you have started the music
or whatever, it will continue even if the IPod or IPhone is off. The one
exception is when you are streaming direct from the device you opened the app
on. So if you choose the option to play media which is on the device, naturally
it will stop if the device is turned off.

Hello list
I started apple music on my sonos play3 from my iPod and then I switched the
iPod off and to my surprise the music keeps on playing. The advantage is that I
do then not consume iPod battery life. I tried this from my pc with the same
result. I did not read this in the sonos manual, so I wonder if it is a known
fact?

RE: Problem with Apple watch and voiceover volume

2017-10-29 Thread Suzanne Wilson
Hi Tom,

Try turning the watch off by holding down the rectangular button and double
tapping "power off." On your phone, turn Bluetooth off and then back on.
Restart your watch and place it near your phone. Go into the Watch app on your
phone. Tap general, accessibility and voiceover. Get to the volume setting and
experiment with changing it. I have found that when my phone is nearby and as
long as the watch's screen is unlocked, you have better luck at changing those
volume settings. I hope that helps. If all else fails, unpair your watch and
start fresh.

Subject: Problem with Apple watch and voiceover volume

Hello.
I got a brand new Apple watch on Thursday and am learning how to use
it. Is there a book or instructions on how to use the watch with
Voiceover? I seem to be having a problem with the VoiceOver volume.
It is very low and I don't know how that happened. The alarm and
other sounds seem to be fine, but Voiceover itself is very low. I
went into settings and sounds and the watch's volume is at 100
percent. Any way of being able to turn it up to a decent volume? I
can hear it but it has to be right at my ear and the place where I'm
at has to be quiet.
Thanks.
Tom

Open the Watch app on your phone. Go into Settings, general, accessibility,
VoiceOver and scroll down to VoiceOver Volume and adjust that slider.
Alternatively, double tap and hold on your Apple Watch screen and slide your
two fingers upwards to increase volume.

Hi,
You don’t specify what sort of music you started playing. I.E. music resident
on your iPod or music from a stream on the internet. If the latter your iPod is
merely working like a remote telling the Sonos where to go to stream the
content. As such it needn’t remain powered up for the music to continue. It is
not working like a bluetooth device whereby the iPod is sending the sound to
it. I hope that clarifies; and if I’ve misunderstood perhaps someone else will

off topic: to anyone using q-continuum's hope interface for pandora

2017-10-29 Thread Larry Lumpkin
Hello. I have received permission from mark to post the following. Please
reply directly to me at

llump...@austin.rr.com

I have been using hope for pandora for years. It is a marvelously simple
interface to use pandora-much easier than either pandora's website or the
app. After updating to the latest windows 10 creator and jaws 2018, the
program has ceased to function. Has anyone else experienced this and has
anyone gotten it to work using latest windows and jaws. Thank you very much.

Re: Unable to enter text on my 6S

2017-10-29 Thread Dave Bahr
I’ve had the same problem and I’ve had to remove the smart beetle from my
list of devices if I want to get my keyboard back but have switched off my
bluetooth keyboard. So, I rarely use the smart beetle for text entry now
because I have to add it back every time I want to use it. It’s annoying,
you would think that voiceover would recognize that neither the bluetooth
keyboard nor the smart beetle are being used and, hence, display the
on-screen keyboard. Instead, I’m stuck with a read-only blank message field
in text messages that I can’t activate and type in, making it useless. Only
way I found how to fix this is to get rid of the smart beetle in my braille
list. Wish I had better news,

interesting observation with sonos & iPod or is it old news?

2017-10-29 Thread Fanus
Hello list
I started apple music on my sonos play3 from my iPod and then I switched the
iPod off and to my surprise the music keeps on playing. The advantage is that I
do then not consume iPod battery life. I tried this from my pc with the same
result. I did not read this in the sonos manual, so I wonder if it is a known
fact?
Regards
Fanus

personally, I rather think it very much depends on how useful or not the
specific app/apps that no longer work were.
for example, something like a game, radio, or tv app that no longer worked, but
was purely for entertainment, would probably not bee too much of a loss.
an app that one heavily relies on however, especially for independence and/or
mobility, such as one click cab in my case, is a very big loss and seriously
major inconvenience now that it no longer works.

re this one click cab issue

2017-10-29 Thread Dave

first of all, it’s not apples responsibility, when it comes to updating apps,
it is up to the cab company, or the app developer.

If this one click cab, or whatever they are called, wish to keep in business,
then it is their problem, and they should sort it out.

Have you considered, contacting the app developer, or the cab company?

Dave.

Re: IOS 11.0.3

2017-10-29 Thread goshawk on horseback
personally, I rather think it very much depends on how useful or not the
specific app/apps that no longer work were.
for example, something like a game, radio, or tv app that no longer worked, but
was purely for entertainment, would probably not bee too much of a loss.
an app that one heavily relies on however, especially for independence and/or
mobility, such as one click cab in my case, is a very big loss and seriously
major inconvenience now that it no longer works.

That is probably because the developers of these apps did not bother to
update them any more to comply with Apple’S 64 Bit requirement. Yes, Apple
requires this, but it’s going with the time and you can’t expect some app that
hasn’t been updated in years because the developer abandoned it to work
forever.

unfortunately, there are some issues that can't be "worked around"

I am now really starting to hate IOS11, as several of my most useful apps now
no longer work, including one click cab, which is seriously inconvenient!

Their are problems with any software updates however; just install them and
work around the problems and you will be find.

Also, you will definitely find new features that will enhance your IOS
experience.

Don't know whether to install it or not.

for all T-mobile users

2017-10-29 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

For all of you here who use T-Mobile, have you ever had problems using
the T-mobile app?

It doesn't seem too accessible.

Also, if you go to their my T-Mobile website with a computer, do you
have any issues entering your ID, and password?

Every time I go to enter my password, my caps lock key gets turned on.
I've never seen this before.

Any help would be much appreciated. I need to view details of my bill.

Thank you,

Terri
