And they are so responsive and courteous to us blind users. One day my
daughter was showing them how to turn speech on and they were so
interested that all of the store employees gathered around and watched
and asked questions. so they were well prepared if another blind user
ever came in that store. We actually had a T-mobile employee reach out
to us on another list that I'm on because they were working with a blind
user and wanted to educate themselves so they could better help her.

Not worth it?

I think of T-Mobile most often when I see it's insulted Verizon and when
I
see someone wear a pink tutu at a party.
Still, it's presented itself very well over the last couple of years as
the
carrier that thinks most about customers, especially with its push toward
unlimited data.
Could it possibly be the store that would guide me toward buying the
right
phone?
Regular readers might know that I've been visiting various retailers to
see
how they present different phones to customers. You know, in person.
I've been to both a Verizon store and a Best Buy to learn about Pixel 2.
In
both cases, I was guided toward a Samsung Galaxy.
I went to an AT&T store, where I was told that the Galaxy Note 8 was a
better phone than the iPhone X.
What would T-Mobile tell me?
I was moved to visit, as the carrier offered a 2-for-1 promotion on the
iPhone 8 last week.
Did this mean that T-Mobile was selling so many iPhone X's that it was
desperate to get rid of the lesser upgrade from last year's phone?
Was iPhone X the phone that would tear me away from my trusty, now
slightly
rusty-looking iPhone 6?
I went to a San Francisco Bay Area T-Mobile store to find out.
It all started well enough
A sprightly salesman approached me as I looked over the iPhone range.
I showed him my iPhone 6. He didn't sneer. This was a good start. Not
everyone looks so kindly on old phones in the Bay Area.
He swiftly dismissed the iPhone 8 as a minor upgrade.
"You've got wireless charging, faster processor and you've got the glass
back. But it's pretty much the same phone as the one you've got," he
said.
"But wait. Don't you have a 2-for-1 promotion going on for these right
now?"
"That ended Monday. We've got a 2-for-1 on the Samsungs, but not on the
8's."
Was this the moment I was going to be told Samsungs were better? Not yet,
it
seemed.
"Oh, so did you have the promotion because you needed to get rid of a lot
of
8's?" I asked.
"No," he replied, a little too quickly. "It was just a promotion."
I then asked him about the iPhone X. He couldn't show me how Face ID
works,
because each phone can only work with one person's face.
He insisted, though, that it was secure. "I think there's a
million-to-one
chance that someone else's face will open your phone," he said.
iPhone X? It's not worth the extra 200 bucks
Then things took a strange turn.
He suddenly volunteered that it took more time to get to all your apps on
the X than it did with the iPhone 8 Plus.
"With the 8 Plus, you just double-click on the home button and, look,
there
they all are," he said. "With iPhone X, it's messier." He showed me how
much
messier, as he made several gestures to achieve the same effect.
So the future of the smartphone takes you back in time, not forward?
"A lot of people aren't buying the X because they miss the home button,"
he
said. "Look, there's not much difference between the X and the 8 Plus.
The
camera's the same, the screen size is almost the same. All the iPhone
people
in this store upgraded to an 8 Plus, not an X."
"Why?"
"Because they didn't think the X was worth the extra 200 bucks."

OMG! Texting is 25 years old
The first SMS was sent on Dec. 3, 1992, but it would be a couple of years
before phones could do it.
December 3, 2017 4:20 PM PST

Texting turned 25 on Sunday, ICYMI.
The first text message was sent on Dec. 3, 1992, by British engineer Neil
Papworth to Richard Jarvis, an executive at British telecom Vodafone, who
was attending his company's holiday party in Newbury, England.
Typed out on a PC, it was sent to Jarvis's Orbitel 901, a mobile phone that
would take up most of your laptop backpack, and read: Merry Christmas. But
Jarvis didn't send a reply because there was no way to send a text from a
phone in those days.
Although Papworth is credited with sending the first text message, he's not
the so-called father of SMS. That honor (or blame) falls on Matti Makkonen,
who initially suggested the idea back in 1984 at a telecommunications
conference.
But texting didn't take off over night. First it had to be incorporated into
the then-budding GSM standard. Makkonen feels the technology actually was
launched in 1994 when Nokia unveiled its 2010 mobile phone, the first device
that let people easily write messages.
Today, about 97 percent of smartphone owners use text messaging, according
to Pew Research, and along the way, a new set of sub-languages based on
abbreviations and keyboard-based imagery has evolved. More than 561 billion
text messages were sent worldwide in June 2014, about 18.7 billion texts
sent every day, according researcher TextRequest.
Texting has become so popular that most Americans would rather type it than
say it. US smartphone users are sending and receiving five times as many
texts compared with the number of phone calls each day, according to the
International Smartphone Mobility Report by mobile data tracking firm
Infomate.
Isn't that GR8?

Apple Pay Cash has not yet been activated on this release. I will continue to
wait to upgrade to iOS 11 until Apple delivers upon what it promised at WWDC.

Not if you are referring to a MP3 file or the like. The only way to post an
audio file is to use the video mode on your iPhone or the Facebook video and
just place your iPhone down so that no actual viewable footage is recorded.

There are a large number of online converters, most of them work very well.

Just Google “Online MPEG to iTunes converter”, below is the first search result
which is very straight forward. There isa button where you can select your file
from wherever you saved it on the computer, then there are two combo boxes, the
first one is to select the input format of the file you want to convert and the
second let’s you specify the output format you want. You then have a checkbox
which is optional and if checked will send you an email with a link to download
the converted file or you can just downlopad it on the website after the
conversion is done.

There are online converters for audio files, picture files as well as documents
and, as in the above case, for video files. I find them very convenient and
easy to use and unless you constantly are converting many files there really is
no point in installing software to do this.

This is the link for the ConVertFiles.com website and specifically for video
file conversion

Sieghard

Re: getting an Mp4a into iTunes and converting it to mp3

2017-12-03 Thread Kelly Pierce
John,

If you have an account for Dropbox or OneDrive, you could simply
transfer the Voice Memo files to one of these services. If you don’t
have an account, these services are extremely useful as a blind
person. These two cloud services in particular are highly accessible.
To transfer, choose the Voice Memo you wish to transfer by opening it.
Double tap the share button on the bottom of the screen. If you have
the Dropbox or OneDrive apps installed on your phone and are signed
in, these services will appear in the list of options where you can
share the file. Double tap one of them and iOS then walks you through
the process of uploading it to OneDrive or Dropbox.

As I said, according to the customer service rep the fact that the Instant
Pot app is accessible is by design and not just something that just
 happens to be so.
I would therefore assume Instant Pot as a company is aware of the needs of
visually impaired users and has made a commitment towards offering an
 accessible product.
Anyhow, by software update I don’t mean updates to the app but updates to
the pot’s firmware. The app of course is also important as it’s your
portal to the hardware, with something like the Instant Pot the app really
is no more than a remote control which let’s you select a cooking program
and maybe set a timer etc. Of course if the buttons, labels and other
controls in the app are made to be inaccessible that makes the entire
 product inaccessible.
But the real “smart” stuff happens inside the software and the processor
that is built into the pot and this is where it would make sense if this
could be updated just like I can update the firmware of my router, my
Netatmo Weather Station, my Schlage Sense smart doorlock, my Ring Video
Doorbell or my Philipps Hue lights so it should be possible to update the
firmware of the actual Instant Pot.
The issue you describe with the iGrill is of course not because the actual
hardware has become inaccessible, the hardware only communicates with the
app, but here iGrill has messed up by making the app inaccessible,
basically now the remote control or the gateway/the portal to the iGrill
 is inaccessible.

I get a bit nervous talking about software updates after our experience

Pool is their shared ride option. not available everywhere, generally in
larger cities. it should appear in the ride type options if available in
your location.

I have used both, but now use lyft pretty much exclusively. Prices do
vary,

even on the same trip. Prices are generally higher during the evening, but
last evening I took a trip on Lyft during a time when the price is usually
higher, and it wasn't, so go figure. Also, when using lyft Line or Uber
Pool, the price for the 2nd passenger can very from 39 cents to $1.50.

I use Uber several times per week. Both Uber and Lyft are extremely
easy to use. As far as pricing goes, when there is extremely high
demand like Sieghard mentioned, Uber goes into Surge Pricing. You will
be told of the higher prices when booking your trip and given an
opportunity to cancel or continue. I have heard from others that Lyft
does has Surge Pricing every so often, but my friends say that Lyft
may not have as much Surge Pricing and Uber does. I don't know for
sure since I've taken Uber quite heavily the last few months. Also, if
you frequent one or both services often enough, you will get emails
and notifications about discounts for the week, such as half off the
first 10 rides. You can schedule a ride in advance with both services.
I have done this on both, but I like the notifications you get in
advance of a scheduled trip on Uber better than Lyft. Uber gives you a
notification at 30 and then 5 minutes before your scheduled trip,
where Lyft only gives a text or notification 10 minutes before.
Regarding getting the driver to help you, Uber and Lyft are like
paratransit services, where they are technically just door to door, or
curb to curb service. I have asked some drivers to help me inside a
building or to find a specific place, but not all will be willing. If
they do, then I am sure to give them a better rating and even a tip at
the end. And you can tip with Uber and Lyft. This is one other thing
that Lyft does better. You will get an emailed receipt after each trip
on both services, but Lyft is good about telling you how much your
trip was before you tip. Uber does not do this. I have to look in the
menu, then Your Trips, then I can find out how much my ride was. Both
services are great over all and worth the trouble since they can help
to increase your independence and flexibility when traveling around
town. By the way,

Happy riding,
Wyne

Hello everyone,

I have the Lift App on my phone. But I've never used it. From the looks
of
it, the App seems pretty accessible.

I have a friend who uses Uber, and he says it's accessible.

Is 1 App more accessible than the other?

Also, are there much differences in the prices of trips?

And how do you put in information when you make a trip with either App?

For instance, if you may need some guidance to the building.

Also, does either App do a round-trip sort of deal?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Chip,
When booking your Uber Pool trip, and I'm assuming the same will be
true for Lyft Line, you will be asked how many seats you will need.
The choices are 1 or 2. Once you have made the selection, the rest of
the booking process is the same.

RE: IOS 11.2 update. question help.

2017-12-03 Thread Richard Turner
I’ve been using the Logitech K480 on iOS 11 through the current 11.1.2, and for
the most part, no double letters.
I try to remember to lock the phone before turning off the keyboard and turning
the keyboard on while the phone is locked.

That is no guarantee that double letters won’t happen, but it is very seldom.

Now, just the other day, I had a situation where I could navigate with the VO
plus arrow keys, etc., but it wasn’t writing in a note, even though I toggled
quick Nav on and off a couple of times.
I had to turn off the keyboard and back on before it worked.

That was new to me.

For the most part however, it works quite well.

As I said, according to the customer service rep the fact that the
Instant Pot app is accessible is by design and not just something that just
happens to be so.
I would therefore assume Instant Pot as a company is aware of the
needs of visually impaired users and has made a commitment towards offering
an accessible product.
Anyhow, by software update I don’t mean updates to the app but updates
to the pot’s firmware.
But the real “smart” stuff happens inside the software and the
processor that is built into the pot and this is where it would make sense
if this could be updated just like I can update the firmware of my router,
my Netatmo Weather Station, my Schlage Sense smart doorlock, my Ring Video
Doorbell or my Philipps Hue lights so it should be possible to update the
firmware of the actual Instant Pot.
The issue you describe with the iGrill is of course not because the
actual hardware has become inaccessible, the hardware only communicates with
the app, but here iGrill has messed up by making the app inaccessible,
basically now the remote control or the gateway/the portal to the iGrill is
inaccessible.

No, he didn’t give me any additional information nor did I ask, all
he said that they are working on a new model with better software. It’s too
bad they don’t make them so the software can be updated like it can be on a
Sonos player or many other connected devices, in fact I am surprised now
that I think about it. Maybe the new Instant Pot will have that
functionality, it really would make sense since the pot itself probably won’t
change very much and improvements will generally be software related.
I don’t know if the new Smart will be an 8 quart or if it continues
on as a 6 quart. One thing I do know is that trying to constantly update to
the latest devices is probably a quick path to financial ruin, everything
now has software or is connected and the next version is always better and
so on and so on, it’s almost not possible to almost get the latest and in
many cases also not necessary.
One example is the TV. It used to be people would buy a TV and then
you would have this TV for 15, 20 or even 25 years. Nowadays you buy a TV
and a year or two later there is a newer, better one with more pixels,
better connectivity, a larger screen or a faster processor etc. Of course it’s
not feasible for the average user to update their TV every 2 or 3 years like
most of us update their phone, but that is what companies ideally want.

RE: Voice Dream Reader and Siri Voices...

2017-12-03 Thread Richard Turner
Like Sieghard, my crystal ball isn't working where Apple is concerned, grin.
I very much doubt the Siri Voices will be made available to third party
developers, but the place to ask would be both Apple and the app developer
where you would like the voices.
In the case of Voice Dream Reader, write supp...@voicedream.com and see what
they think.

Nobody really knows what Apple will or will not do, but I think it's rather
more unlikely than likely they will open them up any time soon.

Eye of Providence.

2017-12-03 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Since upgrading to an iPhone 7 I have been unable to get Eye of Providence to
work. Whether I use the front camera, the rear camera or a photo that I have
previously taken the app returns no results.

I have contacted the app developer but have not received a reply.

I know that there are now a variety of apps that perform a similar function to
Eye of Providence but I have some units left and wondered if any other list
members are successfully using it before I delete it. I am running Ios11.2 on
my iPhone 7.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Malcolm

Why I am going to leave the apple word.

You know how much I enjoy pocking fun on you.

As I have told you that I have several apple devices at home, and also I have
several android devices at home. Is good that both sides exist because neither
apple or android were going to improve without competition.

I have found some pages saying that IOs 11.12 had some problems with the

I know Mario posted something about “editing issues using bluetooth keyboards

As I said, according to the customer service rep the fact that the Instant
Pot app is accessible is by design and not just something that just happens
to be so.

I would therefore assume Instant Pot as a company is aware of the needs of
visually impaired users and has made a commitment towards offering an
accessible product.

Anyhow, by software update I don’t mean updates to the app but updates to
the pot’s firmware. The app of course is also important as it’s your portal
to the hardware, with something like the Instant Pot the app really is no
more than a remote control which let’s you select a cooking program and
maybe set a timer etc. Of course if the buttons, labels and other controls
in the app are made to be inaccessible that makes the entire product
inaccessible.

The issue you describe with the iGrill is of course not because the actual
hardware has become inaccessible, the hardware only communicates with the
app, but here iGrill has messed up by making the app inaccessible, basically
now the remote control or the gateway/the portal to the iGrill is
inaccessible.

No, he didn’t give me any additional information nor did I ask, all he
said that they are working on a new model with better software. It’s too bad
they don’t make them so the software can be updated like it can be on a
Sonos player or many other connected devices, in fact I am surprised now
that I think about it. Maybe the new Instant Pot will have that
functionality, it really would make sense since the pot itself probably won’t
change very much and improvements will generally be software related.

I don’t know if the new Smart will be an 8 quart or if it continues on
as a 6 quart. One thing I do know is that trying to constantly update to the
latest devices is probably a quick path to financial ruin, everything now
has software or is connected and the next version is always better and so on
and so on, it’s almost not possible to almost get the latest and in many
cases also not necessary.

One example is the TV. It used to be people would buy a TV and then you
would have this TV for 15, 20 or even 25 years. Nowadays you buy a TV and a
year or two later there is a newer, better one with more pixels, better
connectivity, a larger screen or a faster processor etc. Of course it’s not
feasible for the average user to update their TV every 2 or 3 years like
most of us update their phone, but that is what companies ideally want.

Did he give you any indication as to what would be forthcoming in the
new smart? I don't regret buying this one and if I think there is a need to
buy the new one I might do that but in an 8 quart instead of the 6 that I
now have. I can either keep this one or give it to my daughter who would
like it as well. But I think since it would be at that point an older model
I would happily use it myself.

make sense since the pot itself probably won’t change very much and
improvements will generally be software related.
I don’t know if the new Smart will be an 8 quart or if it continues on as a 6
quart. One thing I do know is that trying to constantly update to the latest
devices is probably a quick path to financial ruin, everything now has software
or is connected and the next version is always better and so on and so on, it’s
almost not possible to almost get the latest and in many cases also not
necessary.
One example is the TV. It used to be people would buy a TV and then you would
have this TV for 15, 20 or even 25 years. Nowadays you buy a TV and a year or
two later there is a newer, better one with more pixels, better connectivity, a
larger screen or a faster processor etc. Of course it’s not feasible for the
average user to update their TV every 2 or 3 years like most of us update their
phone, but that is what companies ideally want.

2017-12-03 Thread Pablo Morales
Sieghard,

I never left the list.

Why I am going to leave the apple word.

You know how much I enjoy pocking fun on you.

As I have told you that I have several apple devices at home, and also I have
several android devices at home. Is good that both sides exist because neither
apple or android were going to improve without competition.

I have found some pages saying that IOs 11.12 had some problems with the
Bluetooth connection. They advise to restore the iPhone, but it is something
that I already did, and now I have IOs 11.2. However I haven’t seen anybody
saying anything about the Bluetooth on IOs 11.2, but it was release a few days
ago.

Let us wait to see if anybody reports something.

Hello,

I have not read that the Ultra has a Sous Vide function, but I have seen
the stand-alone Instant Pot Sous Vide cooker which seems to be its own unit
but somehow can also be used with an existing Instant Pot, haven’t quite
figured it out.

Anyhow, I called Instant Pot and was surprised by the knowledge of the
person I spoke with. The phone connection was poor, but when I asked the
customer service agent when the current Instant Pot Smart was released he
immediately told me it was last May. I told him I had ordered the Ultra, but
that I was blind and found it was not accessible in a meaningful way he said
that Instant Pot currently recommends not to buy the existing Instant Pot
Smart. He further told me they were working on a new and improved version
which should come out in the first quarter of 2018. Since it is not like I’m
desperate and couldn’t live another day (or week or months or 3) without an
Instant Pot I will definitely wait to see what this new Instant Pot Smart
has to offer.

I also asked him whether the good accessibility of the app was
accidental or by design and he said it was by design. Lastly I asked if the
new Instant Pot Smart would be more expensive implying jokingly that I didn’t
expect him to answer this and he answered without delay or hesitation that
no, it would not be more expensive.

Well, all we can do now is wait and see, I certainly will wait and
anybody who doesn’t already have one of these gadgets is probably better off
doing the same. One thing I am glad about is that I have not yet purchased
one especially since they were not on sale last weekend. I guess if I had
been able to pick one up for half price this might have been a good deal,
but I am going to much more willing to pay full price for the new model as
soon as it comes out without experiencing buyer’s remorse.

RE: Accessible MPEG to iTunes converter

2017-12-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

RE: no service again.

2017-12-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Here are the things I would do to try and fix this in the order I would do them:

1. Reboot your phone, e.g. turn it completely off and back on
2. if that doesn't help Remove and re-insert the SIM card and then reboot
3. If that still doesn't fix it go to Settings > Reset and Reset Network
Settings.

If none of the above doesn't fix your No Service issue I would first check with
your carrier to make sure everything is OK with your account and if it is I'd
go to an Apple Store because there is a good chance something might be wrong
with your iPhone's hardware.

hi guys Is anyone experiencing the No Service message appearing on their
iPhones?.
I have recently been getting this message, and of course makes the phone
unworkable.
I have the iphone 5s with this very issue.
The new update 11.2 was supposed to fix this very problem, but unfortunetly for
me has not worked.
I updated the 5s at 1:30 this very morning, but as i say, it didn't work for
me, and the 5s is still unworkable, Billy

Re: Important, problems setting up Apple Watch with iPhone 8

2017-12-03 Thread Aleeha Dudley
Hello,
You're probably right: you're going to have to update the software. However,
try holding both the round button and the side button in at the same time for
about 10 secondffs. That may solve your problem.

RE: New Instant Pot Smart coming soon, was: Instant Pot Ultra 10-in-1

2017-12-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, he didn’t give me any additional information nor did I ask, all he said
that they are working on a new model with better software. It’s too bad they
don’t make them so the software can be updated like it can be on a Sonos player
or many other connected devices, in fact I am surprised now that I think about
it. Maybe the new Instant Pot will have that functionality, it really would
make sense since the pot itself probably won’t change very much and
improvements will generally be software related.

Did he give you any indication as to what would be forthcoming in the new
smart? I don't regret buying this one and if I think there is a need to buy
the new one I might do that but in an 8 quart instead of the 6 that I now have.
I can either keep this one or give it to my daughter who would like it as
well. But I think since it would be at that point an older model I would
happily use it myself.

Subject: New Instant Pot Smart coming soon, was: Instant Pot Ultra 10-in-1

Hello,

I have not read that the Ultra has a Sous Vide function, but I have seen the
stand-alone Instant Pot Sous Vide cooker which seems to be its own unit but
somehow can also be used with an existing Instant Pot, haven’t quite figured it
out.

Anyhow, I called Instant Pot and was surprised by the knowledge of the person I
spoke with. The phone connection was poor, but when I asked the customer
service agent when the current Instant Pot Smart was released he immediately
told me it was last May. I told him I had ordered the Ultra, but that I was
blind and found it was not accessible in a meaningful way he said that Instant
Pot currently recommends not to buy the existing Instant Pot Smart. He further
told me they were working on a new and improved version which should come out
in the first quarter of 2018. Since it is not like I’m desperate and couldn’t
live another day (or week or months or 3) without an Instant Pot I will
definitely wait to see what this new Instant Pot Smart has to offer.
I also asked him whether the good accessibility of the app was accidental or by
design and he said it was by design. Lastly I asked if the new Instant Pot
Smart would be more expensive implying jokingly that I didn’t expect him to
answer this and he answered without delay or hesitation that no, it would not
be more expensive.
Well, all we can do now is wait and see, I certainly will wait and anybody who
doesn’t already have one of these gadgets is probably better off doing the
same. One thing I am glad about is that I have not yet purchased one especially
since they were not on sale last weekend. I guess if I had been able to pick
one up for half price this might have been a good deal, but I am going to much
more willing to pay full price for the new model as soon as it comes out
without experiencing buyer’s remorse.

Hi Sieghard,

I was just going to write to the list and see if you had gotten it yet. I
really hoped that you would say it was accessible. The new pot is supposed to
have a Sous Vide function which is cooking under vacuum in a water bath. I
wasn't to worried about that myself because we already have a Sous Vide Supreme
and so that would not be as important. I do not know when this is supposed to
come out though. Whatever you decide, you will like the instant

Yes, I have tried pressing on the apple keyboard the right and left key

The sound is always the same, like an beep error.

I don’t know, but if I pair the keyboards to my apple TV, they work fine.

iPhone X uses Bluetooth 5, so I don’t think it is a problem.

Hi,
You could try Switch by NCH Softwares. Works well with a screen reader and you
get a trial so you could convert your file with that.
Hope that helps,

Bluetooth keyboards on iPhone X and IOs 11.2

2017-12-03 Thread Pablo Morales
Hello all,

I have an iPhone X, and I have tried to use 2 different Bluetooth keyboards
and for some reason I am not able to type characters, however I am able to
navigate using the Bluetooth keyboards.

One of the keyboards is a Logitech Bluetooth 3.0, and the second is an
apple keyboard. When I connect each one, the paring process is normal, and I
am able to navigate on the screen each keyboards. But when I try to type
characters, the iPhone beeps like saying error, for each character typed. So
I am not able to type anything with any of these keyboards. Maybe I need to
do something new to be able to type?

I don't know, but if I pair the keyboards to my apple TV, they work fine.

iPhone X uses Bluetooth 5, so I don't think it is a problem.

Important, problems setting up Apple Watch with iPhone 8

2017-12-03 Thread Chris Chaffin

Problems getting Apple watch pared and setup with my new iphone 8.
Before calling Apple Accessibility, I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas
that could help me.

Have an original Apple Watch that came out in September 2015 running watch OS
3.23 that I had pared to my iphone 6 running ios 11.1.2. I did not upgrade my
Apple watch to watch OS 4 because everybody said that it slowed there watch
down so much that it was almost unusable. But I had no problems running the
latest version of ios 11 with my watch running twatch OS 3.23.
I upgraded to an iphone 8, and that is where the problem started.

I went through the paring process and I was told that my watch was pared with
my iPhone 8 without a problem. Now it was time to setup my watch again. I
could restore from a prior backup or set up as a new watch. I have tried both
ways with the same results.
After about 20 to 30 minutes, maybe longer, not sure, I get a pop up message
that says, process has timed out because of activities taking place.
I have tried this 3 to 4 times, all with the same results.

My watch automatically goes back to the beginning of the paring and setup
screen, where you choose the default language.
I do not know if my watch is getting hung up installing watch OS 4 or what, but
right now, my watch is totally unusable since I can not get it setup, and
again, I have tried setting it up from a prior backup and also as a new device
with the same device.
Is there a reset for the watch that is equivalent to holding down the home
button and the power button for 10 seconds?

Does anyone have any ideas of anything that I could try to get my watch up and
running again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Chris

RE: Reading words IOs 11.x

2017-12-03 Thread Pablo Morales
Yes, probably here we are confusing the navigation gestors. Yes, you are right,
in android once you switch the navigation way, you flick left or right and you
navigate on the way how you choose to navigate. Other thing that is confusing
is that once the voice over cursor moves out of the frame, the navigation way
changes to the standard that is action. It imply that I need to open the rotor
and switch back to word by word. In android doesn’t work like that, it keep the
same navigation way that the users has chosen.

Pablo, I think you may be confusing the iOS and Android navigation methods,
which is easily done if you've had experience with both platforms. I'm fairly
sure that iOS has not changed in this respect.

When I flick to the right, instead reading word by word, voice over moves to
the following text message, and reads the hole line, sender, day, and last

Ok, then I open the message doing a double tab

Then I place my finger in the last text message sent by this sender

I switch the rotor to words, and when I flick to the right, voice over read the
following whole line. It is not reading word by word.

Ok, let me try something different, I need to read a code that UBER sent me, so
I copy the hole line in the clipboard

I go to the text field, and I paste the data stored in the clipboard

I move the rotor to words

When I flick to the right or to the left, voice over reads the following or
previous line, complete, no word by word.

RE: question keyboard iPhone on screen

2017-12-03 Thread Cristóbal
No. I called Apple accessibility support about this. This is an actual intended
behavior with iOS 11. Annoying as all get out.
For me it disappears when double tapping the little microphone/dictation button
left of the keyboard and doing the same to stop dictation. You'll find in place
of the full keyboard, there will be a couple of dictate buttons and a keyboard
button. A next keyboard button as well if you have multiple keyboards enabled.
Double tapping the keyboard button brings back the keyboard.
The Apple guy said that this behavior cannot be disabled or toggled, but if I
wanted the keyboard to stay present/visible, to invoke the two finger double
tap in the edit field in question to start and stop dictation.
I expressed my displeasure with this new behavior as I find myself having to
God knows how many times throughout the day double click that dumb keyboard
button to go back and edit text. That and for me at least, after I bring back
the keyboard to click on a search or go or the return button often, I'll
trigger the dictation again. That and having to do a two finger double tap to
start/stop dictation on the phone really takes away from the one handed device
aspect.
I guess it may have some benefit for sighted folks or for larger iOS devices,
but for one handed usage on iPhones or if you simply want to edit text after
dictating since it's not always reliable, it's been a major pain.
I asked if there could be some way to consider adding a toggle/disable ability
for this particular feature in the future. Even if it's buried somewhere in the
keyboard or accessibility settings. He said they're always listening to user
feedback, blah, blah, blah.
I would encourage others who find this new feature to be incredibly disruptive
contact Apple accessibility as well to let them know of their frustration.

Re: Reading words IOs 11.x

2017-12-03 Thread Richard Turner
Nicky, that is correct. Flicking right has always been next item. Flicking
down has always been based on the rotor selection. I have used iOS and
VoiceOver since its beginning in 2009 and it hasn’t changed in that regard.
If the rotor is on word, flicking down or up will move by word. If it is set
to character, then flicking up or down will move by character, and so on.

I think you are right. Pablo had used Android I believe in the fairly recent
past.

Re: Reading words IOs 11.x

2017-12-03 Thread Nicola Sanders

Pablo, I think you may be confusing the iOS and Android navigation methods,
which is easily done if you've had experience with both platforms. I'm fairly
sure that iOS has not changed in this respect.

Best,

Nicky

Hi Jerry. Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? If so, what have you tried?
The only reason I’m asking is I don’t want to repeat things that you have
already tried that have not worked…

Any thoughts?

hi guys Is anyone experiencing the No Service message appearing on their
iPhones?.
I have recently been getting this message, and of course makes the phone
unworkable.

I have the iphone 5s with this very issue.
The new update 11.2 was supposed to fix this very problem, but
unfortunetly for me has not worked.
I updated the 5s at 1:30 this very morning, but as i say, it didn't work
for me, and the 5s is still unworkable, Billy
